So my lovely wife and I stopped in at Mic Duck's for a bite to eat on Saturday afternoon before we were to do a bit of day drinking in the area. At least I believe it was called Mic Duck's. I've also seen a listing for Taqueria Blue Line at this spot, at the corner of Belmont and Kimball and across the street from the Belmont Blue Line station. I ordered a combo meal with Philly cheesesteak, fries and a can of pop, priced a wee bit over ten bucks. My love went with a single pork taco. I'd say she liked her taco a bit more than my Philly cheese steak, which was AOK but not exactly overflowing with meat, onions or green peppers. The other night - and every word of this is true - I staggered in there after falling down on the sidewalk outside of a bar, and asked if they had any ice I could put on my hand that I'd landed on. Instantly they grabbed a big bag and filled it, and I was able to get quick treatment going on my hand while eating their delicious food. Really good people in there! read more

Terrible. The gyro is so dry and the fries taste like they were a day or two old and refried in old grease. They were as hard as rocks. I hate to spend my money on poor quality. I'm not saying this was a five star restaurant but you can at least have better french fries. the only halfway decent thing is the burger, otherwise steer clear. read more

The wife and I embarked on an afternoon of train-hopping and needed a stop before making our way out to O'Hare for people watching. We needed a stop for a lunch before went finished our trip. We 'threw a dart at the map' and this place is what popped up. From the pictures it looked like the standard Chicagoland gyro/hotdog shop. When we arrived, it wasn't busy at all. The wife got the standard double cheeseburger combo, shying away from the gyro thinking it might be too much. I pulled the trigger on the gyro combo. Our food came pretty quickly. The gyro checked all the boxes to be one of the best in Chicago, and would recommend. The wife took one bite of the burger and was impressed. They both came with crinkle fries and a drink, and we got out of there without much damage to the pocketbook. We'll be back. read more

I love mom and pop shops like these. A No frills type of place that you can always count on for a nice big juicy grilled burger. I love how this small restaurant has been here for years. I remember waiting for the bus back in high school and coming here for a quick meal. The restaurant is located right on the corner of Belmont and Kimball, right across the street from the Blue Line station. Very convenient for commuters who needs a quick bite to eat. One of the best things about this place is the price. Most of the food combos are $7 or less and is enough to satisfy a hungry stomach. I walked in and asked for a #11 which is a Philly cheese steak meal. The short man wearing his hat to the back took my order. I asked if he could put mayo on the Philly (I hate dry sandwiches) and this man frowns, jerks his head back and says, "Really? Mayo on a Philly?" He waves his hand back and forth in front of his nose as if something stinks and then says, "That's nasty." I immediately canceled my order and told him that he was rude as hell. Corner place....I thought it was greek (as most places like this are) but no greeks to be found. Obviously this didnt effect my review...i thought it was kinda cool. My british friend and I ordered food...I got shrimp and fries for my mom...which were kinda small so that was ok....he ordered a gyros which he thouroughly enjoyed. Not a bad little greasy spoon. For what it was...quick and painless. The milkshakes here weren't bad either. It said drive thru but I didnt see one...unless it was behind it (I thought it was an alley.) Came to this area to meet up with my friend right before heading to the airport. Located right across from the station it was very convenient for a quick meal. The guy was super nice and the food came out pretty quickly. My friend and I got the classic dog and it was really good. I love that they gave extra green peppers just because I love spicy food. The fries were freshly made and were tasty. I love small mom and pop restaurant like this. This place doesn't take card so make sure to take cash before you go. There is an ATM but it charged a fee. This place is solid if you are looking for something quick and something tasty. This place is rather tiny and I would really hate to be here when it is crowded as I am somewhat claustrophobic. It looked pretty clean but it looks kind of worn out also. I ordered a gyro sandwich and it was pretty darn good the meat had a nice crispness to it and they piled the meat on my sandwich. the sauce was a bit runny though which made for a sloppy eat but it tasted good enough where I did not mind a little extra slop on my fingers. This place is good in a pinch if you happen to be in the area and looking for a quick bite to eat for a pretty good value. 5/5/08 - revision Just raised this from 3 stars to 4 stars. Had a patty melt here last night and I could not have asked for a better one. This was you r classic patty melt, nothing new and original but it was done perfectly. So this place is right off the corner of Belmont and Kimball, meaning that this place is easily accessible from the 77 or 82 bus, or the blue line. However, that's about all this place has going for it. The food there is exactly the yelp two star description: "Meh. I've experience better." I had an extremely ordinary gyro (they asked if I wanted everything on the gyro, which really just means the standard meat, 3 slices of tomato, lots of onions and the cucumber sauce) meal with fries (thick cut, think steak fries and not shoestring) and a soft drink (which was fountain soda and served in a styrofoam cup). Everything about the meal was ordinary. The price was ordinary as well. Around $6 for all of that, which seems to be the standard rate. The only thing about this place is that it's right next to a hub for public transportation and on the way home. If it wasn't I never would have tried this place out. Their gyros are pretty decent but whatever you do don't get their breakfast sandwiches. I have made the mistake twice and overpaid for food that left a bad taste in my mouth. If you eat here order a gyro special (w fries and drink) instead, even at 7:30 AM. The minute you eat your last french fries, they are going to ask you to leave. At least that is what they did to me. It wasn't at closing time either. You can only stay there for a half an hour. My food usually does not digest that quickly and why have a t.v. in there at all? There was a man that was allowed to stay even though he was clearly finished with his food. According to the guy cooking the burgers this place has new owner. I waited nearly twenty minutes for an order of two cheese burgers with ketchup only to be cooked . . The owner then put the burgers right on the counter while talking to another customer and doused both with mustard and pickles - I tried to cut into his conversation to say stop and he ignored me while dousing it with onions and mayo and then smooshed the tops on . I finally got his attention to say they were ketchup only and he made an irritated angry face and proceeded to wipe off the toppings and wrap .. I said no way I'm taking those burgers , he got mad and stormed out to pout in his car. Then the cook says I'll fix it honey , throws two more on the grill . I confirmed he knew ketchup only - he says sure. Wait another several minutes . He bags the burgers says sorry for the inconvenience. Happy New Year 2017. Just like any year I want the new year to start off right. So like most mornings I woke up hungry and wanted a beef sandwich. Mr Beef on Harlem, my #1 spot for beefs, was not open (boo) so I end up at Mics. It's a hole in the wall joint across from the Belmont Blue Line. They take cash only, so there is an ATM that charges $3 (boo). They were run by an elderly couple but friendliness seemed to be optional with them. They basically made fun of one guy who seemed to mispronounce Hot Sauce, calling it Chinese but he was not chinese. Anywho as long as the food is good I can live with it. I order my normal Cheesy Beef with Sweet Peppers dipped. I took one look at it and knew my first meal of 2017 would be a bad one. The meat was too light almost a beige color instead of brown. I have seen that before. My suspicions were correct it was horrible. The beef was of the lowest quality, spices were significantly lacking, and the peppers were bland. Somehow they got the bread right, but hey even a broken clock is right twice a day. Still its a piece of garbage, an embarrassment of a beef. Ronda Rousey fought better a couple days ago than this beef tasted and she got destroyed in 48 seconds. This is an elderly couple that has lost the passion and love to serve their customers. They simply need something to do and pull in a few bucks while doing it. Retirement should be a goal in 2017. Please I strongly advise do not eat here. The owners are not so nice, ATM charges are too much, the place is filled with undesirables, and worst of all the food is a deplorable disaster. read more

This place honestly isn't worth anything, especially be it ones time. I was sitting parked in their lot waiting for someone to grab lunch with there and got yelled at to move my car. I would think that be it I'm a potential customer who's going to eat there that I would be able to park my car, but apparently not. I got food poisoning from this place. Ever since then I stopped coming here. Ther cheese fries are the worst, I have had. The cheese is so watered down, I was pissed I spent 3 bucks on that shit. A short review for once. I finally gave this venue a shot (now two). It's been around a long time, and it is directly on the SW corner of Belmont & Kimball, across the street from the Blue Line "L" station, but I had not eaten any of its food. I have had the hot dog, and yesterday I had the polish. The sausages here are from 'Red Hot Chicago', which used to be the Samuel Ladany Sausage Company a quarter-century ago. The hot dog is a ten. Toppings for sausages are mustard, relish, diced raw onions, tomatoes, and sport peppers. You will probably get all of them on your sausage, even if you try to specify omitting one or more. (I think yesterday, we had a new grill guy whose comprehension of English was lousy. I am pretty certain that was the venue's owner instructing him. But my request to hold the peppers and the tomatoes went unheeded.) Prices are average. The polish "meal deal" (which includes french fries _and_ a soda) was $5.00 [incl. tax]. ("Combo"'s here are not beef & sausage sandwiches - they're a sandwich and french fries.) It was not explicitly stated, but I suspect this 'polish' was all-beef. It was an average polish. Not as deeply cooked as the one at Express Grill, but it had some snap. Raw diced onions are not as tasty as grilled onions, in my vista. The fries are institutional. It should change the fryer oil more frequently, because most of them will come out hot (in temperature) and crunchy. Too crunchy. If you order something which does not include french fries, you can buy a small order of them for $1.45, or a large order of them for $1.50. Hmmmm. From glimpsing these other reviews, it appears I should try the patty melt the next time. Yes, It *has* a parking lot. It's seven spaces to the south of the stand. But really, you should get here via the Blue Line "L", or the #77 Belmont bus. read more

This place is on the corner of Belmont and Kimball and conveniently across the street from the Belmont Blue Line. I was going to get a gyro, until my husband told me he had one before it was not that good. So, I got a pizza puff and fries instead with a drink. The pizza puff was alright, taste like most. The fries were only ok to me, however, my husband thought they were really good. This is after adding salt, because they don't come with any on them :-/ My drink, well, I wanted a lemonade and it tasted like crap so we returned it and asked for their red kool-aid or whatever it was and that didn't taste good either....almost like sugar water with coloring added to it. Finally settled on a sprite, which taste like the fountain. They guy taking our order was kind of rude and seemed to be getting more upset as we said we didn't like the drinks heh, so that bumped it down a star for me. Also, their prices, to me, are high. I think that is because they are the only fast food place right there and traffic is high with the train and buses. I could have gotten what I ordered for about $2.50 cheaper if I had gone somewhere else. I am also used to suburban prices....I don't know if that makes a difference.
