Small cheese fry
Tony M.

Just stopped in to see what the hype is about. I just ordered a small cheese fry to eat in and I will say it was less than good. Portion size so small I could count the amount of fries with two hands that's 9 maybe ten fries and the cheese sauce was just plain/bland nothing special. All for $5.26 Not sure if I want to give the burgers a chance after this but will see.

We've been on a burger hunt for the best burger in Chicago. Region has made a couple lists so of course it was on our radar. My husband went with the normal double and I got the smaller version with grilled onions and bacon. We ordered online for takeout with sides of fries and onion rings. Ok - the burger itself was tasty. I think top five for me BUT it was extraordinarily greasy. The bun was soggy. So that needs to be scaled back. The grilled onions were a must, the bacon was not necessary and a lil fatty for my liking. Wouldn't add that next time. But would def get that burger again with grilled onions. Fries were pretty good, also greasy though. We heated them up in our airfryer to get nice and crispy. Good flavor. The onion rings were good but we literally got like 7 onion rings for $7. So the portion needs to be upped for that price or I wouldn't order again.

Region is good. I've driven by a few times and on a trip to Roscoe Village today decided to pick up for lunch. I'm not even sure you could call these smash burgers, they're so thin! I was skeptical at first, I'll admit, but it was good. Really greasy, though--make sure you have some paper towels or something down if you're doing take-out. Paper thin, and "lacy" is how they describe them and it's a good descriptor. I got mine with all their regular toppings, and could probably take or leave the sauce; I don't really remember what it tasted like even and it didn't add a lot to the burger. We got some fries and onion rings to go along with it. Neither of them would be something I'd write home about. The onion rings are better than the fries (though that may be different if you were having them there instead of making the ten minute drive home to eat). Prices overall do feel a little high--it was over $40 for a couple burgers and the sides. But I'm not mad I tried it. Most of the seating is outdoors in their sidewalk patio; there are only about four places to sit inside. Parking is street only and Roscoe is a popular place so you may have to drive around a bit or park down the block.

Patty Melt

Me and a friend came to try this place. Was always super curious about the burgers since they seemed like huge smash burgers. So when we walked in we noticed the service immediately. One person was manning the entire front, and you could tell on her face that she was overwhelmed. She took orders, took out the food, made shakes/drinks, while also managing the front. Crazy, and it's a shame that she was by herself. I think she did amazing, but it's hard to support a business that doesn't care about properly staffing and overwhelming skeleton crew. Now for the food. I got a patty melt and onion rings. Food was pretty quick, which I guess was a plus. It was the food itself I was disappointed in. First the onion rings. Delicious batter, nice rings. The problem was the pricing and the amount I got. I paid around 9 dollars for 5 onion rings. 5! I'm sorry but I'm not in the business for paying $1.80 for a onion ring. Crazy! The patty melt was not good. Though the flavor of the hamburger patties was decent, the sandwhich itself was not. It looked half heartedly put together and the cheese wasn't even melted! Disappointment all together, especially for the price point. All in all I probably won't be back. Expensive for no reason, and pretty meh food.

Thursday, my husband & I stopped by The Region for lunch. (Cute & cozy little restaurant) We both ordered a smash burger with all the trimmings, fries, & soda. The burger tasted absolutely amazing. They cooked the food to order so it was very fresh & flavorful. By far, this was the best burger I have ever tasted & my husband agreed. Customer service was outstanding. Our next visit to Chicago, we will definitely be coming back to The Region for their delicious well seasoned burgers. Great food, great service, great atmosphere! Definitely a 10 out of 10.

Diggity Dos

Simply the best smashburger I've had in Chicago!! The crispy edges, the patty was still juicy. The patty is seasoned well, and overall just a delicious burger I'm still thinking about days later.... I split the double burger and a hotdog with my boyfriend! Burger is a bit pricey.. but honestly.. for the best burger in Chicago... I'll be back!

Diggity Dos and Basket Fries

What a fantastic little burger spot! The restaurant is very small and cozy, with only a few tables. They offer takeout as well. Service was fast and friendly. We ordered the Diggity Do and a basket of fries. The burger is a Smashburger and huge, and the fries were so good. I'm pretty sure I took those away from my husband! We shared the burger and fries and left stuffed. Next time you're craving a burger, hotdog, or patty melt, this is definitely the spot for some great American comfort food.

This is probably in my top 5 burgers right now. The meat is super flavorful, the condiments are fresh, the bun is toasty. Love a good smash burger and this sits with the best of them.

Single Cheeseburger Onion Rings

This place has a cool small diner vibe with a few tables that will seat a dozen or more people inside and about the same outside on the street. We reviewed the menu, ordered our food, paid and decided to sit outside. We had just barely sat down when the server started out with our drinks and literally 2 to 3 minutes later she was placing our orders in front of us. We all order single cheeseburgers and sides - the burgers are smash burgers and have a very nice crust and good flavor. With the "region" sauce it made the burger even tastier.

Got caught in the rain but enjoyed a nice smash burger! I've been wanting to try this place and it definitely hits on a Sunday. Or any day for that matter, Smash burgers rule. Took a ride up north on the bike and just so happened to be in the neighborhood. Roscoe Village is pretty cool. The classic single cheese smash at Region is good! I'm not a fan of relish but it hit the spot the way they do it! The patties are perfect and flying off the bun with these beautiful Caramelized edges! Perfect. Bun was average but it's a good smash to add to your Chicago burger list! The girl at the front was really nice and they have outdoor seating which is a plus because the interior is very small. Didn't try the fries, but I heard these little kids after their baseball game talking about how amazing they are! Maybe next time. Thank you!!

A classic, greasy burger joint. The Region has a lot of hype, so I had high expectations going in. I should have done a little more research, because I didn't realize it was SO casual. It's an order at the counter type of place with a very limited menu. We were able to snag seats on the small patio and wait for the food. We went simple with two cheeseburgers and fries and sipped on canned root beer while we waited. The 7 ounce burger is served with with onion, relish, and Region sauce -- which was very delicious! It's definitely a smashburger, the burger was about twice the size of the bun! It was a little difficult to eat but tasted yummy. The fries were crispy but really small pieces, I'm thinking maybe we got the bottom of the fryer basket! I did try to order a water but was told they were out, which was kind of unusual...lol! It seemed to be a one-man show, so I did feel for the staff member who was taking orders, clearing tables, and serving food. Decent experience overall! The prices are high for what you're getting, but the food is good!

Burgers are good! They use the pink sauce on it. I believe it's the region sauce. The fries aren't the best fries you ever had but it's good for what it is. The inside is very small and they have a patio out. Good service. Recommend!

'Diggity Dos' - shit was disappointing y'all
David O.

Heard so many good things & finally made the trip up here. Ranked one of the best smash burgers in the city so I had to try. Ordered the 'Diggity Dos' and it was disappointing! The burger was extremely hot & crispy but the inside was dry while the basket & wrapper were soaked in grease. I normally use a generous amount of napkins when I eat but due to the extreme amount of grease on this burger, I required twice the amount. Also the patties, although not burned, had a burnt taste to them from the flat top. Probably residual grease taste left on the grill. Never coming back sadly, was fooled by all the great reviews and hype.

But it is seriously just a greasy smash burger. Their fries are good, and actually stand out more than the burger. Everything is overpriced. I don't know why people complain about the wait; do some research like a responsible adult. I never just walk into a place and expect to be immediately seated, I call first - like anyone who has some sense. If they tell you the wait is 2 hours and you have 2 hours to kill, there are a bunch of bars in the area where you can have some drinks and an appetizer (and not feel like you're stiffing Au Cheval; they're the ones with the 2 hour wait, what do they expect people to do?) Not much to say about the decor or ambience; it's a typically loud West Loop bar with mostly 20 - 30 somethings all trying to one-up each other with their trendiness that instead makes them all basically clones of each other. It is crowded, and you're a moron if you think any place like this is suitable for your 5 year old. That's not the restaurant's fault - it's not Chuck E Cheese. Often I wish Yelp offered a 1/2 star option, because there are places that are a 4.5 or a 3.5. Not in this case. 3 stars is spot-on.

Stacked unapologetically high, this burger is everything you want and more: juicy, perfectly seared patties layered with melty cheese, crispy bacon, and those golden, crunchy fried onions that take it completely over the top. Every bite is rich, savory, and just messy enough to remind you you're eating something seriously good. The toasted bun somehow holds it all together (barely), soaking up every bit of flavor without getting lost in the chaos. And then... the shoestring fries. Thin, crispy, golden perfection--light but addictive, with that ideal crunch that makes it impossible to stop at just one (or ten). They're the kind of fries you keep reaching for without even realizing it, especially dipped in that creamy, tangy sauce on the side. And let's not forget the drinks--just as good as the food. Refreshing, perfectly balanced, and the kind you sip slow while taking it all in (but somehow they disappear way too fast). It's not just a burger--it's one of Chicago's most iconic bites for a reason. Bold, indulgent, and absolutely worth every single napkin you'll need after. The ambiance inside is GORGEOUS!

Loved the 90s female R&B playlist they had going! Little Bad Wolf has been on my list FOR YEARS to try the burger! My husband got the burger with fried onions and I got some Bao because those also looked delicious and were a popular menu item. Honestly the 3 stars are only that high because of the service. Our server was friendly and attentive + the food came out hot and quick. Unfortunately, the food was pretty disappointing. The burger was swimming in a puddle of grease and just picking it up made your hands greasy + was dripping grease. The fries that came with it were floppy, soggy, and sad...but at least warm? I personally wouldn't order this again. The Bao were better, but small for the price and honestly were just okay? It was nice they gave you sauces you could add, but I found the Bao's to already have enough sauce so I didn't need them. Overall I left feeling confused and disappointed. I don't feel the need to come back here - Little Bad Will was a one and done experience for me.
