I came here based on the reviews after going here I think you guys need to travel outside of the neighborhood. There's a lot out there. The burger had no seasoning. Came here for early linner on a Friday & it got gradually more busy around 5:30pm mark. The store front is a bit small only 4 tables & counter seating. Also only one server/cashier for the whole spot but people still managed. Its set up like a classic dinner spot & love the plastic baskets & the tin cups for milkshakes. I was intrigued by the burgers since the smash burger patty went outside of the bun. The fries & burgers were delicious! Region is good. I've driven by a few times and on a trip to Roscoe Village today decided to pick up for lunch. I'm not even sure you could call these smash burgers, they're so thin! I was skeptical at first, I'll admit, but it was good. Really greasy, though--make sure you have some paper towels or something down if you're doing take-out. Paper thin, and "lacy" is how they describe them and it's a good descriptor. I got mine with all their regular toppings, and could probably take or leave the sauce; I don't really remember what it tasted like even and it didn't add a lot to the burger. We got some fries and onion rings to go along with it. Neither of them would be something I'd write home about. The onion rings are better than the fries (though that may be different if you were having them there instead of making the ten minute drive home to eat). Prices overall do feel a little high--it was over $40 for a couple burgers and the sides. But I'm not mad I tried it. Most of the seating is outdoors in their sidewalk patio; there are only about four places to sit inside. Parking is street only and Roscoe is a popular place so you may have to drive around a bit or park down the block. read more

Price is reasonable. Hand cut fries are also well-cooked, I.e. dark and crispy. Overall pretty good, but I must admit I prefer a thicker burger - either stacked thin patties or one thick one (the best IMO). 2 (or even 3) patties x 7 oz (yes 14 and 21 oz) burgers are on the menu! We've been on a burger hunt for the best burger in Chicago. Region has made a couple lists so of course it was on our radar. My husband went with the normal double and I got the smaller version with grilled onions and bacon. We ordered online for takeout with sides of fries and onion rings. Ok - the burger itself was tasty. I think top five for me BUT it was extraordinarily greasy. The bun was soggy. So that needs to be scaled back. The grilled onions were a must, the bacon was not necessary and a lil fatty for my liking. Wouldn't add that next time. But would def get that burger again with grilled onions. Fries were pretty good, also greasy though. We heated them up in our airfryer to get nice and crispy. Good flavor. The onion rings were good but we literally got like 7 onion rings for $7. Me and a friend came to try this place. Was always super curious about the burgers since they seemed like huge smash burgers. So when we walked in we noticed the service immediately. One person was manning the entire front, and you could tell on her face that she was overwhelmed. She took orders, took out the food, made shakes/drinks, while also managing the front. Crazy, and it's a shame that she was by herself. I think she did amazing, but it's hard to support a business that doesn't care about properly staffing and overwhelming skeleton crew. Now for the food. I got a patty melt and onion rings. Food was pretty quick, which I guess was a plus. It was the food itself I was disappointed in. First the onion rings. Delicious batter, nice rings. The problem was the pricing and the amount I got. I paid around 9 dollars for 5 onion rings. 5! I'm sorry but I'm not in the business for paying $1.80 for a onion ring. Crazy! The patty melt was not good. Though the flavor of the hamburger patties was decent, the sandwhich itself was not. It looked half heartedly put together and the cheese wasn't even melted! Thursday, my husband & I stopped by The Region for lunch. (Cute & cozy little restaurant) We both ordered a smash burger with all the trimmings, fries, & soda. The burger tasted absolutely amazing. They cooked the food to order so it was very fresh & flavorful. By far, this was the best burger I have ever tasted & my husband agreed. Customer service was outstanding. Got caught in the rain but enjoyed a nice smash burger! I've been wanting to try this place and it definitely hits on a Sunday. Or any day for that matter, Smash burgers rule. Took a ride up north on the bike and just so happened to be in the neighborhood. Roscoe Village is pretty cool. The classic single cheese smash at Region is good! I'm not a fan of relish but it hit the spot the way they do it! The patties are perfect and flying off the bun with these beautiful Caramelized edges! Perfect. This corner spot doesn't look like much but the proof is in the pudding so to speak. The Region has n Roscoe Village was a planned stop in search or great smash burgers. The kind where the burger of thin and with crispy edges. Hard to find a good smash burger. It's a simple shop with limited but solid offerings. Surprisingly reasonable prices as well. Not to mention a nice street side patio to chill on. My buddy and I both had the double smash burger and a side of fries. The burger takes a few minutes but is well worth it! It stands up to any smash burger in town. Thin seasoned well and crisp around the edges. Their smash burger sauce has a distinct really savory flavor. It's not huge but it doesn't need to be as good as it is. The fries are fresh and not greasy. Fried perfectly fine well and crisp. Heard so many good things & finally made the trip up here. Ranked one of the best smash burgers in the city so I had to try. Ordered the 'Diggity Dos' and it was disappointing! The burger was extremely hot & crispy but the inside was dry while the basket & wrapper were soaked in grease. I normally use a generous amount of napkins when I eat but due to the extreme amount of grease on this burger, I required twice the amount. Also the patties, although not burned, had a burnt taste to them from the flat top. Probably residual grease taste left on the grill. I and a food and entertainment critic who covers Chicago and St Louis. I'm always amazed at restaurants boastful quotes, mission statement, etc but can't back it up. They say what the customer wants to hear. Went to The Region- Handcrafted Hamburgers in the charming Roscoe Village of Chicago. Been around since 2017 and was voted one of the Best of Chicago in 2018. That was then, this is now. They boast about their "mouthwatering handcrafted burgers". They mention "juicy on the inside, crispy on the edges". They have their famous Region Sauce. Every restaurant can have a bad day, however I can only critique it when I was there. There was no "juicy" at all. We ordered 5 burgers to go. They were burnt. Not cooked "well done". They were worse than that. They were really dry. And they put so little of their famous sauce on that you can hardly taste it. Did nothing to mask the over cooked burgers. Their buns were fabulous. About as soft and chewy as it gets. But based on the burgers, I would not go back. And their fries were so oily, the brown paper bag was soaked with an oily stain. If you want a great smash burger to match the quotes given here, next time in Chicago go to Red Hot Ranch, Fantastic! Heck, Steak n Shake is better than this place I reviewed. read more

The toppings are simple, bun was soft, I would give it a 4.5/5 but the fries were not as good. Maybe a 3/5? This is a tasty burger. After seeing this spot included on many top Chicago Burger lists, it was time to try it. I went with the double burger as it looked like the best meat:cheese:bun ratio. It was solid and I really liked the crispy edges of a good smashburger. Service was fast and friendly, but I'm taking away a star because the burger is really small and quite overpriced for what you get. It's really more of an expensive snack or appetizer. I ordered "The Double Regionette" 2 double cheeseburgers with onion, relish, and Region sauce with fries. The double cheeseburger with crispy fries will definitely fill up. It's a small place but people move in and out so there should be no problem finding a seat, outside seating weather permitting. They have a good system, and they get you served in no time.
