We went to Slyman in Ballwin to buy a dishwasher. We bought a midgrade whirlpool unit. After installing it, the unit was extremely loud while running. It was much louder than our dishwasher from the 1990s and could be heard from the floor above our kitchen. I reported the issue to the company. I asked for an exchange for a different unit. They would not comply with my request and continued to tell me that nothing was wrong with the unit that I had, even though it was obviously not working properly. I could not live with the "new dishwasher" that was clearly malfunctioning. We ended up replacing the unit for a different brand, but had to pay a $125 restocking fee. It was absurd that we were made to pay $125 for a broken unit. I was really hoping to support local business, especially since my extended family has enjoyed working with this company for several decades. Very disappointing! read more

Came to town to help my parents buy a washer and dryer. My parents wanted to buy and support local and in years past have had good experiences with Slyman Brothers. Terrible experience with the Baldwin store. And the manager Trent. We were limited on choices based on the space in their house. When I went in there was not a soul in the store and not a single car in lot. I know why now. With limited time and even fewer choices we bought the washer/dryer and made arrangements for delivery and installation...which was not cheap! Upon delivery they did not have a hose that was long enough to connect , and left. Nothing connected and just left. Said ". We don't have that in our truck, bye." With my parents devastated with a $2300 purchase PLUS deliver & installation charged.. nothing was installed. When I called Trent we were told we can come back and install it but it will be another fee and you'll be charged for the tube. That's bullshit. And he was a jerk. Not calling back, not trying to help and only wanting to charge us for ANOTHER delivery & installation. Instead of doing the right and professional thing, he made this entire experience terrible. They've sent two repairmen out who confirmed it does not work. Still, they refuse to provide us with a working product or refund our money. I recently bought a dishwasher from slymans appliances on Manchester, I paid $225 for delivery, installation, haul away. It was delivered Saturday but the installers said they couldn't install today due to a drawer being in between the washer and sink. They left my new washer in the middle of the kitchen and left. I wasn't concerned about it at the time because I assumed they would return and install it since I did pay for an install. We called Monday and we were told it was going to be another $225 to install. After we protested they dropped it to a $100. I still didn't feel this was fair so I installed it myself. This was my first time ever installing a dishwasher; it wasn't easy but I didn't feel it was very difficult either, it shouldn't have been a problem for 2 professional installers. In the past we have had great experiences with Sylman Brothers in Ballwin. In the past we have bought a SPEED QUEEN washer and dryer that were well priced, delivered on time, etc. It was such a nice experience that when our Dishwasher died, Suzanne and I, after some online product research, were pleased to find that Slyman Brothers offered the top-of-the-line Bosch Dishwashers. Jake, our Sales Associate was very knowledgeable regarding the different Bosch models' features and benefits. He answered all our questions clearly. But even more helpful was that when I explained my concern that our Dishwasher which died was the original dishwasher from 1994, and since we had new granite counters installed some years afterwards would a new Bosch Dishwasher fit and work properly. Without hesitation Jake offered to come to our home and measure the space, etc. to be sure a new one could fit and work. He made an appointment for a quick visit to measure the space and assess the plumbing set up, etc. At our home, after checking, Jake assured us that the new Bosch Dishwasher would be fine. We bought the 800 Series 24" Dishwasher later that day! Jake truly went that "extra mile" that you very seldom see in today's retail environment. We used Lowe's for many installs after we moved into our new house. We didn't have the best experience with them so I suggested local Slyman Bros Appliances to my husband. And it was 20 times worse of an experience than Lowe's ‍. Will NEVER use them again or recommend them to anyone. Would highly advise not using them. Placed an order for an oven and microwave in December and was told 2 weeks. Still don't have it. The lack of communication from the salesman and manager was insane. I've been in retail for 14+ years and my husband has been in sales for 15+ years. We kept getting promised follow up calls and heard from no one. It was a ridiculous process with zero communication. The managers Josh and Bobby were so rude and just said "can't tell you when it's coming, if you go somewhere else it's not our problem and you'll have the same problem elsewhere" Ordered the same oven through Lowe's today and it's going to be delivered Saturday and installed Wednesday and $200 less. Do not buy from Slyman! We purchased a new oven in late December. The sales rep told us it would be in and ready for install within 2-3 weeks. 4 weeks went by with no word so I reached out for an update. Was told it would be coming the following week. Of course, heard nothing so reached back out. Was told it would be in in another week. After another week, no oven, no follow up. Did this 2-3 more times until finally I asked to speak with a manager (Josh). Josh was rude and very matter of fact stating that it's not their fault and that I could go buy an oven anywhere else and would have the same issue. His boss Bobby then reached out and basically said the same thing. But they both promised to keep a close eye on it and that the stove would be in within the next week. Decided to continue waiting. So of course, I hear nothing from them on the day they promised so I reach out again and they said they had no idea when it would be coming and that I could just go try my luck somewhere else. I've been in the sales and service industry for nearly 20 years. I know that delays happen. No issue there. We were polite and patient even though it was taking longer than expected. The issue here was the lack of communication and the promises that were made when I purchased. If there's possibility for delay, tell the customer up front to set proper expectations. If shipping delays happen that are out of your control, simply let the customer know proactively. And finally, when time passes and the unit never arrives the least you can do is be polite and try to find a solution to take care of your customer. Both managers (Bobby and Josh) refused to take ownership of the situation and told me on multiple times that I could just cancel my order and try someone else and that I'd have the same result. Couldn't be further from the truth. I thought that buying from the local company and paying a bit more ($250 in this case) would ensure me great customer service. I was wrong. Final note: I finally gave up and ordered the same model oven from Lowe's. It arrived in one day and was installed 3 days later. Slyman might've built a business in the past by taking care of their customers but they've clearly lost their way. Buyer beware. read more

we purchased a gas dryer from Slyman bros. we paid for delivery, INSTALL, and haul away old one. They delivered the dryer and we needed a longer gas line. They had someone who could do this. My wife and I bought an Amana refrigerator for our garage on 5/16/20 to replace our old one. We had heard good things about Slyman Brothers. Unfortunately, we've had just the opposite experience. The fridge broke down 3 times in 10 months. Each time, it was out of order for several weeks while we waited for replacement parts. (That's not Slyman Brothers' fault, but a COVID-related issue.) The fourth time it broke down, we were told to contact the store as it didn't make sense to keep repairing this unit. I e-mailed the salesman who sold it to us on 2/23/21. I informed him of the situation. He said he'd see what could be done and get right back to me. After a week (3/2), I'd not heard from him, so e-mailed him back. I was told he was waiting on a reply from Whirlpool. Another week passed and still no word (3/9), so I e-mailed him again. I heard back two days later (3/11) telling me we'd been approved for an exchange. So we waited. And waited. On April the 4th, I contacted the salesman yet again. He said they were waiting on a fridge from Whirlpool. We waited ANOTHER month and I contacted him on May 4 and was told the fridge was on back order. He e-mailed back on May 6 to tell me the ETA on the fridge was May 26. And here I sit on July 13th. Still no fridge. Still no communication from Slyman. Wish I would've read these reviews BEFORE I purchased anything from Slyman. We ordered a new microwave, double oven and cooktop through them based on a recommendation from another local kitchen remodeling company. Dan Jochens was our salesman, and told us how great Jenn-Air appliances were. Plus, if we purchased the double oven and gas cooktop from Jenn-Air they would throw in a free dishwasher. Perfect. Ordered on March 30, 2022 after we went to see the appliances in-store a few days earlier. Dan didn't mention to us during our in-store visit that prices were going up on April 1st, nor did he mention that the Jenn-Air double ovens would be going through a model change and they would be delayed. We rushed to order before prices went up, a classic salesman job that we should've seen right through. We waited 9 months for our double oven to be delivered, with the only communication regarding ETA after we would reach out. It wasn't until I got a hold of one of the actual Slyman's that I was told I would be receiving free install for my inconvenience. During this time, I called the store 3 separate times to confirm the electric needed for the double oven, so that everything was ready for install. First, I was told I needed a 240V outlet. When I called to confirm months later, I was told I only needed a 120V outlet. When I called a 3rd time (all different people I spoke to) I was told it just needed to be hard-wired and was sent an outdated spec sheet for my electrician to use when placing the junction box in the correct location (based on the information from Josh, the 3rd staff member, he stated the junction box could be at the top or bottom of the cabinet). The day for delivery and install FINALLY arrived on December 9th. The delivery driver, Rico, arrived and reeked of weed. He walked in and immediately informed me that the junction box needed to be moved and they couldn't install. After MANY back and forth's with Dan and Chris Slyman, I was given a NEW spec sheet that stated the junction box needed to be on the top of the cabinet. I had to pay additional money for my electrician to re-run wire to move the junction box, and labor for the time it took him to move it to the top of the cabinet. When I requested to reimbursed for this, since their employee gave me the wrong information on where the junction box could be located, I was met with complete silence. I ended up finding a contractor to do the install instead because I was so fed up with dealing with this company. We haven't used their appliances yet, as we completely re-did the kitchen and haven't moved in yet. Now, based on previous reviews, I'm terrified that we'll also have issues with the performance of the appliances. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY. 1. Poor customer service - once they have your money they don't care about you. 2. Poor communication - they only give ETA updates if you reach out first. 3. My wife and I couldn't be happier with our new Samsung dishwasher! The sales guy was insanely knowledgeable about appliances and got us into the perfect dishwasher that fit our budget. They delivered on time, hooked it up and took away the broken 5 year old LG dishwasher (bad pump). This dishwasher is soooo much better than that LG we bought from Best Buy. Not only do we have a better dishwasher, we know WHY its a better dishwasher. The kid at Best Buy who sold us the LG didn't know a dishwasher from a hole in the ground! Not true of the guys at Slyman! They even told us WHY our dishwasher broke and gave us some pointers as to how to keep it from happening again. Best Buy wouldn't do that. We recently bought a house that needed appliances replaced. I priced Sears, Home Depot and Best Buy. The package price at Slymans was very competitive considering I selected higher end appliances. Working with Josh on selection, delivery and install was a breeze. He kept me informed and even pre filled rebate forms for me. The company they sent for the instal estimate and later for instal did a great job. They were able to convert my electric cook top island to gas for a few hundred dollars more and so worth it! Our 20+ year old unit decided to quit on the Monday night before 34 guests were to arrive for Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday.... Panic! I called Slyman and they went to work to find just the oven that would work. Totally grateful for their dedication and ability to make our needs a priority during a busy time. I ordered a stove from Slyman Bros. Appliances on Sept. 9 and paid $1500 down on it (about 50%). I was then told that the stove would be ordered and that we should get it installed around mid-November. On Sept. 22, I was asked for and paid the entire remaining balance of $1631.63 (which I thought was rather odd, since the stove was not due to be delivered to me for almost 2 more months). In early December, I had still not heard anything more about the delivery and installation of the stove. I then called Slyman Bros. and was told that they could find no record that I had ever paid the $1631.63 balance and that I therefore still owed them that amount! My wife then went to Slyman Bros. in person and presented them with our Visa card statement that CLEARLY showed both payments that I had made to them in September (payments of the full price of the stove). She was then told that they had not even ORDERED the stove! In the meantime, they had taken $3131.63 from me! They refused to give us an allowance for this inconvenience, so my wife then had them refund us the entire price of the stove ($3131.63). I am 68 years old, and I have NEVER done business with any company worse than Slyman Bros. Appliances! Never again! read more

Went to Slyman for a whole new kitchen suite of appliances. We had done our homework so the ordering process was very easy once we had our items picked out. The problems comes once they get your money. You do not mean so much anymore. The refrigerator was delivered and before ever being out of the package, we noticed the doors rubbed together. When our contractor called to ask about how to adjust the french doors, they told us it was a 15 minute fix for a normal thing that happens on Thermador appliances and if we needed their help they would charge us to come out. Now mind you, we just paid them a huge amount for a full suite of appliances. After arguing, they agreed to send someone out. It took us a week to get a hold of that guy, then another week to get him scheduled. Then he didn't show up on the date, nor did he even call! When we called Slyman back, they said they are no longer making repair calls due to Covid-19. Sure that's understandable, but we feel they played around and then used this as an excuse. So we are still sitting here with a refrigerator is not working properly. And to add insult to injury, when a family member was told of the bad service and impending bad review, that person did not believe the customer. She chose to believe her employee that told her that our Contractor messed up the install and they had came out and fixed it already. I assure you our contractor did a great install AND no one came out to fix ANYTHING! Not only did they insult us, they insulted our very qualified contractor. I will NEVER be shopping there again. I have never had so much difficulty getting satisfactory service. I bought an appliance at Slyman Bros. in good faith 3 weeks ago. At that time the salesman told me I was on the schedule for installation on a certain date at 8:00 am. That appointment came and went without a word from Slyman Bros. or their installer. When I called to find out what happened they said the item I bought was not at the warehouse for pick-up that day. No one bothered to let me know. I re-scheduled another installation date. I again asked to be the first appointment of the day. Nothing happened that day. When I called them to find out the problem this time, the installer told me never come at 8 am. They only install mornings from 9-11 am. Since I had not told my employer that I needed to be off work then, that appointment had to be rescheduled. Today is the 3rd install appointment. I am staying home from work - not gettiing paid. I've been calling the installer and the store several times this morning. No word from anyone. We'll see if I get my appliance installed today. I will never buy anything from Slyman ever again. read more

I purchased a stove and a refrigerator that were delivered last Thursday. After plugging in the stove it did not work. I was told I should have the new stove in one week. It has been one week and one day so I called to check the status. My salesman was on vacation this week so another salesman had to figure out where my stove was. He just called back and told me it won't be in for another two weeks. That will put me at three weeks or more without a stove which I have already paid for. They didn't say it but I think my salesman forgot to order my replacement stove. Is it too much to ask to buy quality appliances and receive good customer service. They said it wasn't their fault I received a stove that didn't work, It was the manufacturer's faulty product that was the problem. They told me it was probably made on a Monday. read more

Called Slyman to see if they'd match the price, not expecting that they could given Lowes' buying power. They did! And did it again this week on an oven. Add in great service and a slightly better price on delivery/power cord/haul away, we'll check with them on future appliance purchases as well.
