    Jalapeño burger

This food truck is in San Lorenzo right now on Thursday and Friday afternoons. For the last three Fridays, we've gotten Smack Burgers for dinner and we've loved it every time. The jalapeño burger is our favorite. The hot honey and onion rings are such a nice touch. I also love how the waffle fries taste like curly fries but in a waffle shape. We always order ahead, and our food is ready right on time. The service is great and the food has been consistently delicious. Can't wait to go back... this Friday haha.

A friend told me that this was probably one of the best smash burgers he had, and man was he right! Thank god I shared the food with my partner bc RIP my arteries. But everything was soooo good. The smack fries probably had to be my favorite since it reminded me of a certain "style" of fries from a famous CA burger chain but this was 1000x better prob because of the added smash patties in the fries. And the burger was a juicy, fat, and stacked double smash burger that I wouldn't mind having every once in awhile. Def would come back whenever I'm in the area!

Absolutely delicious can't stop thinking about this smash burger moment. This is a pop up food truck (in San Jose on weekends - see their Instagram for details) but I keep thinking about it! I got the Hellapeno burger (2 patties, pepper jack cheese, grilled onions, pork bacon, jalapeños, onion rings, SMACK sauce, and mikes hot honey). Their burgers are big and juicy and hit the spot perfectly. For an extra $6.50 you can add waffle fries and a drink and they had Baja blast in a can!!! Be sure to come early as it's pretty popular and may sell out if you come too late! There's a few tables outside but there's also a brewery around the front and there's seating inside as well!

Came to check this place on a Saturday night to try the beers and burger. Food Truck is located in the back building with plenty of tables and chairs to kickback for a beer and bites. Hellapeno burger and waffle potato is fresh and delicious. Quality burgers. Many people call orders for pickups too. A must try! We tried the blonde beer, which is light and refreshing. Will go back to try more next time.

Came to Narrative Fermentation and saw this food truck outside. The line was long and as they make everything to order, be patient as it'll take some time. ordered the original smash burger which is two patties, sauce and pickles. It was juicy, slightly messy (in a good way) and very tasty. It could have benefitted from a few extra pickles and more sauce. Ordered the waffle fries, which is fried in beef tallow. They were thick, crispy on the outside and potatoey on the inside. Really great fry though could also benefit from some more seasoning/salt (or at least have salt packets by the ketchup packet). Overall it was tasty and hit the spot while enjoying some beers and sours.

My homie knew of this food truck that's at the back of Narrative Fermentation brewery. This was one of the many brew spots we hit up that night. The burgers "slaps" thank me later. Almost everyone with us got the hellapeno burger. You can't go wrong with a burger cooked on a flat top, but it had a touch of sweetness and it hit. Their sauce was also banging. They ran out of napkins which was needed because I was throwing their sauce in almost every bite and with the waffle fries. I would def come back for another burger it was that good. I would say it's in the top tier of best burgers from a food truck I've had..

So lip smacking good!! My brother and sister in law wanted to try this spot out and mentioned Smack Burgers would be in San Jose on Saturdays at the local brewery so we had to stop by at Narrative Fermentations. Parked in the front lot and walked through the brewery outback to the food truck. There's seating inside the brewery with picnic seats and high boy tables. Super nice to grab a drink from Narrative Fermentations and munch on the burgers. I got the Hellapeño burger: 2 patties, pepperjack cheese, grilled onions, pork bacon, jalapeños, onion rings, smack sauce, mikes hot honey, made it a box set which comes with a drink and waffle fries. I don't usually go for burgers and oh, my gosh, this was so good! The burger was meaty, crispy, spicy and the hit of hot honey was perfect! Drooling, as I'm writing this review, thinking about when I can get another one

"Smack Burgers," a trusted source said.. This was news to me. It was good news, as it turns out. You get me driving through the cuts and backstreets of SJ's industrial area to a pop-up food truck; there better be a fat kid's daydream waiting for me there. There was. When I try a burger, I don't mess around with anything but the core ingredients. A double cheeseburger needs only 3 components: meat, cheese, bun. That way the true foundation of flavor can't hide behind sauces, lettuce, or any other nonsense (onions are pure nonsense FYI) people put on burgers. "Plain Jane" is what I ordered. What I got was a double cheeseburger that could talk the Smack, and Smack back if necessary. Smashed to a thin, encrusted meat-coaster which looked like it was going to be as dry as an AA meeting; I was instantly convinced as I bit into it.. It was juicy, I experienced the buttered bun and melted cheese along with salty black pepper right away. Didn't need anything else on it, I could've eaten 2, back to back plain. Enter the Smack Sauce on the side, however. Done deal folks, I'm going again. Why 4 stars? I'll tell you why, since you seem to need to know. It's because I'm tired of really good pop-ups hooking me, only being open 1 day a week, then eventually disappearing and turning into future conversation amongst food addicts about awesome food you can't get anymore. I'm rooting for you guys; open a location in the south bay. You'll absolutely kill it out here.

A delicious smash burger with crispy patty ends, melty cheese, and juicy pickles. The grilled onions were a little stringy to bite, but the flavor complemented the burger well. The waffle fries were crispy but tasted too "burnt" for my liking (perhaps they double fry them?) The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, and the service was fast. I appreciated the complementary little hamburger gummy for our "dessert". Comfortable and laid back atmosphere located behind Narrative Fermentations. Pairs well with a pint of beer! Check their Instagram for their daily locations.

Great smash burger truck that is only at Narrative Fermentations brewery once a week on Saturdays. Tried the Big Smack $11.50 and Hellapeno $14. They might be the best smash burgers I've had. The burgers are a decent size. Ingredients seemed fresh and of quality. Super greasy as expected, but pretty good. Can taste the minced onions in the patty in every bite. Jalapeños weren't spicy at all. Asked for no added salt and they were able to accommodate. Order was ready in less than 10 mins. They take credit card. Prices felt reasonable. There's parking in front and back of the brewery and on the street as well

This small unassuming burger truck packs a punch with their juicy flavorful smash burgers. I had the hellapeno burger and loved the sweetness and kick of the hot honey. The burger wasn't too spicy at all. The waffle fries were huge and so so crispy. The burgers were a bit on the smaller side so I would argue this spot is a bit expensive for the portions. They had very limited seating and the barrel "tables" were littered with ants. Parking can be found on the road leading to the lot! I personally wouldn't come back, but I do think this is a must-try spot at least once for anyone on the hunt for SJ's best burger joint.

    Brianna O.

Short wait. Hellapeno burger was not not spicy at all if you're worried about that. Very crispy and juicy patties. Smack fries are a must try- super crispy and loaded with lots of onions and smack sauce.

This was right outside Native Fermentations and their burgers and fries are so fire and pair well with a cold one. Seriously delicious !

This is their current location, but I don't think it's their permanent place of business. Just for the time being. Google maps will take you to a parking lot entrance that's closed, blocked by a chain, so make sure you enter the parking lot on Locust Street. I ordered online, and the wait time was a bit long (20+ minutes) but not terrible. And once you arrive, there's a sign near the parking lot directing you to walk down an alley-like path. No signs at the door, just a dumpster outside. Yup, that's where you pick up. It feels like you're walking through the back door of a restaurant kitchen. Actually when you step inside, it indeed IS the kitchen which doubles as a pickup spot (no seats, no signs, I just showed the guy my order on my phone and he handed me my food packed neatly in a paper bag). I got the perro loco which comes with fries on the side, and an arepa with cheese. I didn't like that customers can't customize items when ordering online for pick up. Also wasn't a fan of the pineapple sauce, though I think that's one of the things they're known for. But the hot dog was still good, generous with the toppings and certainly unique. The sausage was plump and juicy with a mild flavor. The fries were delicious as well, and didn't taste cheap. And the mini arepa with cheese was buttery and had a nice texture. Altogether it made for a filling meal.

The menu is extensive with a mix of options (including a vegetarian burger). I ordered El Apto which came with a beef patty, bacon, shredded chicken, lettuce, tomato...all between a brioche bun. This came with fries and a side of pineapple sauce and apto sauce. I dipped my fries in the apto sauce and it was so good! The pineapple sauce goes well in the burger and also on the fries. The beef patty was perfectly seasoned and so juicy. All the flavors were amazing and tasted so fresh. I loved the crispy bacon and the shredded chicken. The chicken was well flavored and they put an ample amount on top of the burger. Wow! What a great combo. I also tried the maracuya (passion fruit) drink and it was so good! I like that it wasn't too sweet. It's fresh and refreshing. They are pretty busy because it's their opening so there might be a wait but it's totally worth it. There are tables around for you to sit so it's casual. The owner is so nice and you can tell he is very proud of his food. Highly recommend!!

And they had Stubborn Root Beer (YUM!!) the burger was really good, just the right size. Onion rings were a good, perfectly serviceable battered rings, but a little salty. Partner had a breakfast sandwich and LOVED adding their special hot sauce mix to it. He said it was a little unwieldy to pick up and eat sandwich style, but tasty nonetheless. The inside was clean, but the seating was sparse. However, the outside seating was very good, and a great place to people watch. My only real complaint is the medu ordering screens were hard to navigate, since the only place to "grab" the screen for scrolling was over easily clickable burger options, so going through the customisation list was like accidentally ordering MANY toppings I did not want and then having to carefully go back up and unselect them and then try not to re-select them on the way back down. So, in light of that, I would recommend ordering from the super friendly counter person instead.

From the moment we checked in, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and making a reservation about a month in advance definitely paid off since the restaurant was packed. For starters, we ordered the fried chicken & cornbread and the summer peach salad. The chicken and cornbread were easily a 10/10 super crispy, well seasoned, and the cornbread was rich and buttery. The peach salad with friend goat cheese (YUM!) was really fresh and bright, a nice lighter dish to balance out everything else. I also had a glass of rose. For mains, we had the Prime Ribeye and the 7oz Harris Ranch Prime Filet, both cooked exactly how we asked and full of flavor. We shared a bottle of Duckhorn cab, and I appreciated that their wine list felt reasonably priced for the quality. We corked what we didn't finished and took it home. The only slight downside was our table being in a bit of a funky spot along a walkway, but service was attentive enough that it never really became a problem. Overall, I'd absolutely come back, and next time I'm saving room for dessert.
