First off the guy working here is a gem. Very friendly, accommodating and wants customers to get the best. Small little place with about 6 tables inside to eat. Seemed to be a lot of people taking food for take away. Lots of choices on the menu for the meats with combos, etc. We got the brisket and tri-tip combo. Not one of us was disappointed. There's a selection of bbq sauces and homemade pickles that accompany the meats. For the sides we had dirty rice and that was very good. The potato salad was fire and I can see why it sold out. The Mac and cheese was not great-none of us liked it. There is a flavor there that just isn't quite right. The people sitting next to us said the same thing. Been coming to them for years after finding them at the old annual BBQ competition. Their BBQ is consistently very good. Their brisket is the star and quickly sells out. Ribs, hot link, and chicken are also good. Their sides are decent, none are really my favorite, and I just go with whatever I'm feeling like at the moment. Service is friendly enough, they are usually hustling to get the food cranked out so can't complain. If you go in at lunch time, it's going to be busy and a little cramped. They are located in a small business park, next to Holyland Restaurant. One thing you can do is order on the app to make sure you get what you want but the downside is that there is a 5% charge to use the app, that I'm not a fan of. Not sure why that is passed onto the customer on every app order. That is the only negative I can say about Smoked Out. read more

We hadn't been a while and decided to come on a random Wednesday for lunch. It was busy and I made it in time for their amazing brisket sandwich. It's safe to say that if you don't get there before 12:30, you will have to order something else. But don't worry, they have top notch meats and specials like the Halle Berry. My husband devoured half that sandwich which was made of pulled pork and a spicy sausage link. The sandwiches are huge and they don't hold back on the tots. South Bay lacks decent BBQ choices. The last time I had great BBQ down here was in the early to mid 2000s with some place on Tully Rd sort of next to this Asian grocery store (that's no longer there) in a strip mall. That place closed a long time ago and I've been trying to find great BBQ since then. The food looks great but I don't know if I just got an off day or an off cut but the brisket was really dry. It had great bark and the fat top was really well smoked and rendered. The meat portion was super dry, almost like lean pulled pork dry. Tri-tip was too saucy and tough. I like a Santa Maria style tri-tip, this one from Smoke Out came dressed up in some sauce I kinda didn't like. Sides were very meh. Mac and cheese wasn't very cheesy, it was more be bechamel sauce than anything. Sweet beans were not great, very grainy. Bush baked beans is the one to beat, you've gotta taste better than that. Their BBQ sauces aren't my cup of tea. Their original is very sweet and fruit-based (pineapple). I also just had Harris Ranch BBQ couple weeks ago so I'm judging off a place that does cattle right, all day long, and in the middle of nowhere. I'm still not over how close this place is to grandma's and I've never been! Came in about 30 minutes before they closed (and had to drive around a bit to find parking as they're a tiny, hole-in-the-wall spot located in a small business area). We were immediately greeted and the gentleman helping us out let us know that they were unfortunately all out of fatty brisket. We joked around a bit, and I asked him to try to find the fattest pieces he could from the brisket that was left. There isn't a lot of seating, but we got a cozy seat in the corner. There's few good bbq places in Santa Clara, at least American style bbq, and they are way far between. So I'm glad that smoked out bbq is so close to my house. I ordered through ChowNow app, and scheduled ahead. My order came without any issues. I appreciate them throwing in the free dinner roll, but the food was delicious, and the sauces are all good too. You can mobile order for pick up or do a food delivery order. They also have a food truck just in case you spot them out in the wild. It's a small restaurant in an industrial area. I'm assuming most people order to go and it's definitely for the office/warehousecels nearby. Limited seating, but we were able to snag a table. Workers are patient and understanding. Boyfriend was fumbling for cash for the payment and we were an hour from closing, but not hint of annoyance. Powerful. We got the Combo 2 that comes with 2 proteins and 2 sides. For the proteins we got the brisket, trip tip, and we also ordered a hot link (I ALWAYS get hot links at BBQ). Hot link had a nice spicy kick and a yummy char to it. Brisket is seasoned with their house rub and is smoked for 18 hours. This was unfortunately a bit dry for my taste but nothing that smothering it in the BBQ sauce doesn't fix, but a bit disappointing since this is usually a solid choice at other BBQ places. Tri-tip is seasoned with their house rub and smoked for 1-2 hours. It's sliced and grilled to order with their original pineapple BBQ sauce. Moist and the best of our proteins. Nicely sweet and savory at the same time. For the sides, we got the macaroni and cheese and the potato salad. Combo came with a sweet roll as well. Potato salad is made with red potatoes, onions, and celery and pickles. Love that this has boiled egg in it too. Can never go wrong with a good potato salad. Mac and cheese is a creamy bechamel with a 4 cheese blend of brie, Havarti, sharp white cheddar, and mozzarella with some panko crumbs on top. This is like gourmet mac and cheese I expect at a fine dining establishment, not a BBQ spot so this was a delicious surprise. For their BBQ sauce, you can grab it self serve and if you're a fan of it enough, you can buy a bottle too. Sauces include their original pineapple BBQ, Thai Mango, Ghost Honey and XXX Hot Sauce. Great balance of sweet and savory sauces. If you're not a fan of sweetness in sauces, this may not be the best for you. The spicy sauces did have a strong kick from what I recall. Overall, not bad. Unfortunately, GrubHub application I could not raise the tip for the driver which he deserved it.... He followed directions precisely... I ordered a hot Link sandwich, tater tots, dirty rice, and also got coleslaw ... I ordered the hot Link sandwich and tater tots... I only wish they had a place to get an extra spicy hot link on the order application! I found that the size of the tater tots and the hot link sandwich was more than enough to fill you up... The coleslaw I thought was just perfect... Not too wet not too dry not too sour not too sweet just right!!!! They're dirty. Rice was also smoked flavor and they also gave you bits and pieces of shredded beef. I believe.,... a good presentation with some shredded sliced up green onions on top!!!!! They also provided 1 ounce of the barbecue sauce.. I thought it had the right amount of what you needed except it could've been made a little bit thicker but that's just my opinion. We ordered two things to share amongst 2 people: + Pulled Pork Chili Cheese Tots (4/5) ($15): So good! I normally don't like chili that much... but this and the pulled pork together made the tots taste sooo good. The tots were crisp, the chili cheese was packed with flavor. The portion was more than enough, but definitely, after a while the flavor became easy to get tired of. Was craving bbq and already know we dont have a lot of options so decided to yelp to see if anything new was out there. You order at the counter and take a seat waiting for your number to be called, which is not unusual for a bbq joint. The location was in an industrial park in santa clara and it was a Saturday...because of this i didnt expect it to be busy but it was and we were lucky to get a table. The gentlemen at the counter was quirky but in a good way and our order came out just as expected. I was not disappointed. Here are some reasons i give the food 5 stars ...4 stars because they didnt have a fountain soda option and the corn bread although not bad could have been better with some cinnamon butter. 1. Tri tip sandwich, plenty of meat cooked just right on a lovely baguette 2. Pulled pork sandwich with a hot link, hot link was mild not hot again on a bomb baguette 3. I usually dont like coleslaw, i ate almost the entire tray. ordered on the side because i wanted to try it but new the odds of me liking it were not high...i was wrong, it was great. 4. Hands down one of the best BBQ spots in the Bay! Smoked Out BBQ in Santa Clara is a hidden gem that delivers BIG flavor. Tucked back in a more industrial area, but don't be fooled, it's a must try! Brisket was sold out around 12:15 when we got there, so we missed out on that. The grilled chicken was incredibly juicy and tender with that perfect charred edge, and the sausage had a great smoky bite with a snappy casing. Really enjoyed the chicken thigh, it's a must! The slaw was fresh, creamy, and had just the right crunch--balanced perfectly with the richness of the meats. Everything tasted homemade and packed with love. Portions are generous, service is fast and friendly, and you can really tell they take pride in their craft. My husband had the beef rib, pulled pork, and Mac n Cheese. Beef rib is a must try, very Smokey and tender! Pulled pork makes for a great sandwich with the included roll. Mac n Cheese was creamy and flavorful. Most seating is inside, one table outside. They have soda $3 and water $2 for drinks, you can also get a cup of water for free near the sauces if you don't tell like spending $$ on that. Parking is easy with plenty of spaces. It may seem quite steep but it does come with generous portion. I opted for the brisket, pork ribs, and chicken. They have tons of BBQ sauces to try, I recommend their spicy BBQ and their hot sauce, its super spicy! LOVED IT. They also have complimentary homemade pickle slices. The brisket was so tender and delicious! The same goes for the chicken. The meat dipped in their sauces equate to a heavenly experience! My side of chili was super meaty, its all meat, so FYI. The order came with Hawaiian bread. Next time I'd go for the mac n cheese or coleslaw. I got back to work and noticed they forgot my pork ribs! I called the next day, left a message for the worker, and got a call back within 2 hours saying they'll refund my entire order for the mistake. I was so shocked! I would've been happy with partial refund or come back and grab my ribs, but this was great customer service. My coworker ordered a chicken sandwich but think he got pork. The ordering system is interesting, they speak on the mic the order and I guess it goes to the kitchen staff.
