We were big Gordon Ramsay's fan, so we have to try this burger joint when visiting Chicago. Service is below average. We got seated quickly. The restaurant is no where at capacity though. However when we ask for the check, they have indicated to use the QR code on the table, which we knew. The fact you can use a working smart device to pay is a perk and should not be a necessity to dine there. Next is ambience. Nothing special besides a Ramsey jersey with #3 (I would assume that's his 3rd restaurant) and his face was on a wall. The seat (bench) is uncomfortable. It is on a narrow side. The table was set spaced too far for the narrow bench usee which made it even worst. Did the staff even test the distancing when setting up to open each day? Thirdly the food, and my husband and I very divided, most likely because one of them is better than the other. He got the BBQ, and I got the Brunch one. We also got fries. We both got medium, and a bit borderline leaning a bit too raw than medium if you are picky. The fries was fluffy outside but HARD exterior. The BBQ one is much better than the Brunch one. The brunch burger onion is overly sweet. The BBQ candied bacon is hard and yuck. I even joked a burger from 5 guys might be better than mine. The bun is average. I didn't finish my food (not because the portion was too big, was because I decided to go get real food elsewhere). If you crave a burger, you might want to go elsewhere. While in Chicago, I was asked to pick the dinner spot. Who can go wrong with Gordon Ramsay's Burgers. Sad to say, we did. We arrived to the spot on 2,E Ontario St. We were immediately seated. It was like a Sunday flashback. We waited patiently. Way longer than we should have because we're restaurant folks. My friend goes over to ask if we can or will be served. They were immediately seating folks after us but I saw the same service duplicating with other customers. Maybe staffing was an issue. Our server finally came and apologized, she was assigned to another section of the restaurant and didn't know we were hers too. We all ordered. The process felt rushed. She was going back and forth. Not clearly understanding or answering our menu questions. When the food came out, she had to go back because of missed items and sauces. Bless her heart ! I took the meat off the brioche bread. The steak was tender and seasoned well. It was a nice portion size. $19.00 My two co-workers ordered burgers. They both stated that the burgers were bland with no flavoring $17/$19. I ordered the Idiot Burger and it came out basically room temp, which was honestly weird. It didn't feel fresh at all, like it had been sitting out for a while. Even a quick reheat would've helped. The quality was worse than McDonald's. The braised beef didn't taste good, and even though the patty itself was fine, the overall flavor just wasn't there at all. I'll be nice and give three stars, but I honestly would not come back or recommend this place. This was our travel day so we just needed something quick and easy for our hungry kids, unfortunately I should have walked the extra few minutes for somewhere else. The burgers were just really bland. If I'm paying $22 for a burger (that doesn't come with fries) I want it to be amazing and it just didn't have any flavor. I had the bbq bacon cheeseburger. My husband had the idiot burger - again, just ok. And the kids had the cheeseburger off the kids menu, which did come with fries, but the burger was literally cheese meat and a bun, nothing else. I ordered delivery, came out to around $30 for a burger and fries, which felt a bit pricey but the portions were solid. Walking in just before a traditional dinner rush on vacation day one (still on EST meal times here, and it had been a long day!) we were seated instantly! The daughter chose the Oreo Creme Brûlée shake, which was soooo delicious and amazing! Then regular fries for her, and yummy truffle fries for me! For the amount of yelling Gordon Ramsay does, one would hope his restaurants would be of the highest caliber. Alas, each of my experiences in a restaurant bearing his name has disappointed, and this location was no exception Before I even set foot in this restaurant, we got off on the wrong foot. I was calling to push back my reservation due to severe delays on the Red Line. The call was answered by what I assumed was an AI. I asked "Are you a human or an AI?" The response: "I'm Troy, your digital host." Before John Connor can try and save us from the robot apocalypse, we must first start with this. Our "conversation" was something that's hilarious in movies and reels but aggravating beyond measure in real life. Getting a human on the line was impossible, and the conversation ended with me hanging up and saying out loud, "is this a f*****g joke"? The "joke": Me: "Can I speak to a human?" AI: "You'd like to book a table, right?" Me: "No." AI: "When do you want to book your table?" I wish at this point I could tell you that the in-restaurant experience was no joke, but then I'd be lying. It wasn't "bad," but it was more of a "Seriously, Ramsay? You can do better than that!" I had the opportunity to try the Beer-Battered Onion Rings and the Blue Cheeseburger. Onion Rings: About 10 years ago, I was in a London burger joint that made spectacular beer-battered onion rings. I could tell that these weren't up to par, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Then it hit me: they tasted like they had been sitting under a heat lamp! I also felt that the onion was not thick enough to balance the very robust breading. As for the Parmesan, it failed to adhere well or melt even slightly, which would have worked wonders if executed properly. The one highlight was the ranch dressing--it was phenomenal, tasted homemade, and was top-notch. Blue Burger: When it comes to burgers, I prefer them cooked medium. Yet, I've found that nine out of ten places upon hearing this make it medium-well or well instead. To hedge against this, I ordered medium-rare. The burger came out, and well... when the server came by to ask how everything was, I asked, "Is medium-rare supposed to be mushy?" He offered to re-make it, which I accepted, asking for a medium this time. He consulted with the team and came back saying that it was more of a rare. Oops. Where is Gordon yelling, "It's RAAAAAAW!" when you need him? (Just joking, but seriously, it was very underdone.) Mistakes happen, and I awaited the re-made burger. This one was cooked to a proper, juicy-yet-not-messy medium. However, it suffered from a different issue: the crispy onion strings were burnt. This led to an overpowering charcoal flavor making its way through the burger, interfering with the otherwise good things it had going on. With the Blue Burger, it wasn't all doom and gloom, and there were several things I adored. The quality of the beef was marvelous, and it was properly seasoned (too many places pass flip-flops as burger patties). The combination of the salty patty, the sweetness of the caramelized onion, and the funk of the terrific quality blue cheese all worked amazingly together. The frisée was a nice touch in terms of greens, and while the spicy aioli did not make itself known to me under everything else, I didn't feel like something was missing. When it comes to the service, I want to give my server credit for being attentive and friendly. As for speed, I thought the food came out in a reasonable amount of time, given that the meat was grilled fresh. In terms of ambiance, the restaurant was what I'd call upscale-casual. Wood beams, exposed brick, a warm and inviting color palette, and comfortable seating all make for a place where I would love to spend some quality time... if the food deserved it. Final Verdict: In two words: "Not bad." They have all the ingredients (literally and figuratively) for something amazing. However, the execution on both the first and re-made burger, as well as the onion rings, was lacking. With Ramsay's name and the corresponding prices, I expect better. We looked forward to another meal at Gordon Ramsay Burgers. As luck would have it, Jovan (sic this time) was our server again, and just as attentive and welcoming. As I rarely eat burgers, I opted for a fish sandwich and the unforgettable onion rings, husband ordered one of the burgers and fries. Understand, I've been talking about these crunchy-as-hell onion rings for more than a year. Regrettably the ones that were served were limp and greasy, not even close to the ones I remembered. Jovan had the kitchen remake them, but delivered them with the news that the recipe had been changed Husband's burger tasted good but was a tad rare for his taste. My fish sandwich was crunchy, but all the seasoning was in the sauce so a few bites that extended outside the bun were underseasoned; same with the onion rings, unless paired with the sauce. I don't know that we'll seek it out on future trips to Chicago. Especially for the cost of a couple of sandwiches and sides, it should have been much better. read more

This was our first time at the Gordon Ramsay burger spot. The service was the service was mediocre, but she was extremely nice. However, let's talk about the burgers. My partner had the hell's burger or whatever it's called and I had the burger with blue cheese. the burgers are just OK but they were extremely bland and lackluster. We live in Chicago and just wanted to try it. Will we ever go back because we both ended up with terrible stomach aches. I would not recommend this place due to the fact it's just l it's overpriced and the burgers are just average. I had the truffle fries which weren't that great either but I was hungry. Just some Parmesan slapped over them and they were like a little stubs left in the bottom of the fryer. She had the onion rings. They were just OK but very greasy overall I would give it a 2 stars just not worth the price and we never even got water refilled after waiting more than 20 minutes for our food and it was warm was not even hot. Hmm not the experience I thought I'd get. The burger was really underwhelming. It wasn't as juicy as I thought it would be, and the burger was more salty than flavorful. The fries were pretty good tho! I should've known better, but the elote doesn't even taste traditional. It was fancyfied but totally missed the mark on what an elote is supposed to be. Granted, it is a modernized American spot. I'm just a little disappointed knowing that Gordon's standards are really high and this did not meet my expectations. A former Chicagoan, I was in the city for a conference and was excited to be back in River North where I worked over a decade ago. So much had changed since then, it was hardly recognizable at first. In the mood for a good burger, my friends and I set our taste buds on Gordon Ramsay Burger which was just a few blocks away from where we were. We went relatively early for dinner and on a Thursday, so we were seated immediately even though we didn't have a reservation. The server was very friendly and attentive and patient. We ordered the Hell's Kitchen and Backyard burgers and Truffle Fries to share. A third companion ordered just fries. We waited quite a long time for our meals, 15 minutes at the very least. And when they arrived, they weren't quite right. One burger was served with the truffle fries and the other was served with the regular fries that were supposed to be a separate order altogether. No biggie, quick fix: hand them over to third friend. Cutting into our burgers, though, my medium cook looked to be medium well and my friends medium well looked to be medium. The server confirmed that mine was indeed overcooked and relayed a message from the kitchen that the medium-well reflected their standard for that cook and the pink may have been an artifact from the lighting. The manager corroborated, but they did re-fire the burger to a well-done cook. While it took us a while to get there, the restaurant made good. The manager comped us for BOTH burgers AND a premium vanilla shake. The food was good, although I know next time to get the sauce on the side for the Hell's Kitchen Burger--only because I personally am not a fan of sweetened sauces. read more

Our daughter's first trip to Chicago we decided to surprise her with dinner at Gordon's because she is a huge GR fan and we've eaten at several of his restaurants in Vegas that have been excellent. Much to our disappointment, this meal was just mediocre and extremely over priced for the mediocracy. We had 3 adults and one child in our party; the adults each ordered a different burger and the child ordered a hot dog. I had the burger of the month, which had fried egg, mushrooms and a garlic aioli on it. It was fine but lacking flavor and wasn't as juicy as I'd expect. The others said the same; the burgers were fine but certainly not seasoned well enough and not worth the $22 price tag, with no sides. We ordered a truffle fry to split, which was $12 and only had truffle and cheese on the top; most fries were plain in the cup. After watching almost every season of masterchef jr, I wanted to see what the hype about Gordon Ramsey was about. Loved the modern interior with the open air kitchen! You could hear them say "service!" which is so true to his shows. We got the Hell's Kitchen burger and the truffle burger. Hell's Kitchen burger is genuinely rly good with a tangy and sweet tomato-jalapeño jam and "mashed avocado," which was more of a saucy consistency. Patty WAS a medium rare, yay! I think they used to serve actual smashed avocado slices, and I hope they go back to that soon!! Truffle burger was a generous portion of truffle oil infused meat with a runny egg. I've been here before, but I stopped by this weekend, so I knew I had to write a review. We didn't have a reservation, but they did seat us right away, which is nice. I think we went around 9-9:30PM, so that might be a good time to go if you didn't make a reservation. The staff was all really nice and our server checked in on us frequently enough to feel taken care but not too much it was overbearing. The food is pretty good! Nothing to complain about. I got the backyard burger and fries, and my boyfriend got the vegan burger. His only complaint is about the gluten-free bun. I think having a 3rd, sesame bun that's dairy free would be a good option. Overall, it's a pretty nice place. They have a signed Bulls jersey by Gordon up and a huge portrait of him on the wall.
