I been hearing about this place for a while but didn't want to go all the way in the city. Luckily they have one by Rosemont which was definitely a little closer. I ordered the single cheeseburger and fries. The other stuff that we ordered was the hamburger and a cheeseburger on a lettuce wrap. Everything was so good. I love the fries. I will be definitely come back.

This is a cute place for burger and rootbeer float - IMO! I had the double cheeseburger which is really good. I love rootbeer float, so yeah I am a happy camper. We had fries and side of cheese sauce. The cheese sauce is only good when it's warm, it gets clumpy once cold. Meh! It's a self-service kind of restaurant. Order and sit anywhere.

Came here on a Monday evening at 6 pm and I was surprised to see barely anyone here. I've been to the other Au Cheval and Small Cheval locations and they're always packed. This is the newest location and very spacious with a ton of seating inside and outside. It's well decorated and very airy with a lot of natural lighting. The menu is super simple...they really concentrate on what they do best which are awesome burgers and shakes. I got the double cheeseburger, golden cut fries, and chocolate shake...pretty much a 1500 calorie meal so i definitely can't eat here all the time . But definitely worth the calories and fat once in a while. Prices are not bad. The cashier was friendly and food came out relatively fast.

Finally came here after loving Au Cheval for so long! Came here with a friend for dinner to catch up. Super family friendly during a weeknight dinner, but still works just as well for friends or a cute date night. They also have happy hour drinks. I ordered the single cheeseburger with fries and the lemonade slushie. The slushie was pretty tart. I personally would've liked it a bit sweeter, but the burger made up for it. So yummy! Very simple, classic, and you can add veggies and extras if you want. The interior is really cute and aesthetic, kind of like a dimly lit outdoor Paris cafe vibe. Overall, a solid spot that works for pretty much any group. I'd definitely come back.

Small Cheval is the kind of burger spot that makes you remember why simple done right is undefeated. The burger is juicy, perfectly salty, and hits that sweet spot of messy-in-a-good-way without trying too hard. The sauce, pickles, and onions all balance out so every bite feels dialed. The vibe is laid-back and effortless, like a place that knows it doesn't need a huge menu or a ton of hype because the food does the talking. If you're in Chicago and want a reliable, craveable burger that actually lives up to the buzz, Small Cheval is a no-brainer. Oh and the best part is there's hardly ever a wait at this location but be advised it is away from the City.

I had higher hopes. I was expecting a better quality meal, and over all I was disappointed. The burger was dry, the chicken tenders were barely breaded and nothing was special about them. The fries were to thick and not cooked enough, or salted enough. Very generic. Inside was very cute and they had a nice patio, but I would not go back for the food.

First time here , the inside decor is super cute . Looks like you are outside but inside :) the guys at the counter were all very nice and helped us out with questions bc we told them we were newbies lol . The prices are very crazy , an impossible burger with no cheese is $14 that's with no fries or drink . So yeah that's way overpriced . My husband enjoyed his double burger . We shared a fry with cheese sauce , their cheese sauce is wonderful and since my burger didn't have cheese , I used it to dip. Since my husband told the guys it was my birthday, one of them brought over a strawberry cheesecake mixer . I thought that was SO sweet of him . Not sure if they do that for all birthdays but it did make me feel better dropping $14 on a burger :) definitely not a place that will become a regular but would visit again .

We stopped into Small Cheval on a whim on a Thursday afternoon around lunchtime. The parking lot was packed so we were a little nervous about dining in. We placed our order and just at that moment, a table became free.... Lucky! We ordered a couple cheeseburgers with fries and a four piece chicken nugget with fries. Our burgers were awesome and the nugs were great, as well. The fries were crisp and hot. The restaurant was very busy but it was clean and the employees were great. I hope we stop in again soon!

We came for a later weekend dinner and the place was decently full and busy. It is counter service so you walk in and place your orders at the counter. They give you a buzzer to come and pick up your order at the counter when ready. We ordered the doubles and some hamburgers and cheeseburgers. Then also a couple orders of fries and some dipped ice cream cones. The burger was tasty and well seasoned. The fries as well, though felt like it was a little on the salty side. The dips they have to serve yourself including garlic aioli which was very tasty.

Very serviceable burger-joint grub in a really cute space. You order from the counter and collect your food when your buzzer goes off. Small menu (with a disproportionately ample beer/wine section) that's basically just burgers, chicken tenders, and fries. Our burgers and fries were satisfying, but I really liked the shakes. I got an excellent chocolate shake, and my sister's peppermint shake was really tasty. It was really, really crowded but the food came quickly. It was surprisingly easy to find seats at one of the large shared tables. There are trees in there! Trees and umbrellas. Very pleasant place honestly.

If you have ever been to Au Cheval, you will know that they make one of the best burgers in the country. Small Chevelle is basically Au Cheval's little brother. It is meant more for their fast food arm of their restaurant where they make a delicious burger offering yet nowhere close to what you would get at the OG Au Cheval restaurant. with that said they do well for their menu. It is like a midtier fast food restaurant where the main products are hamburgers and fries and they offer hotdog as well. Very simple and straightforward. If you've ever been to In-N-Out in the West Coast, it draws a lot of parallels. The dining area and the ambience is a little bit more upscale than your standard fast food joint but nowhere close to a full dine in experience. If you haven't been, it's Wirth the experience to try at least once. You won't be disappointed.

Small Cheval serves the best burger in the country, and, no, that's not hyperbole. Juicy, savory, and delicious, these burgers bring the flavor. Brioche buns are paired with perfectly golden French fries, complemented by pickles, garlic mayo, and cheese. What makes this burger exceptional is that every component is elite. First, the bun is fantastic and not too bready. The beef is smashburger-style with an ideal meat-to-bun ratio. The pickles are thin and plentiful without being overbearing. I've been to the original Small Cheval dozens of times, and this was my first visit to the Rosemont location. The Rosemont location is huge, well-lit with natural light, and has an outdoor feel despite being enclosed. You feel like you're eating in someone's backyard. My only tip is that, unlike the original location, you must request the garlic aioli at the counter. Be sure to do so!

It was pretty good. And although it's fairly expensive for a fast food restaurant, but on the plus side it's very filling so that helps make up for it. We got burgers and fries, as well as a milkshake, and both me and my partner agreed they make a pretty darn good burger. The little one had their "cheesy bun", which is simply a hamburger bun with cheese. Their burgers come with dijonnaise standard, but yuck, so I left that off. That was a good choice for me because it would have been far too mustardy. The burgers were just this side of well done, which was a little surprising since they were kind of the smash burger variety. The fries are not especially special but they're good, and the aioli they come with is what makes them special. The salted caramel milkshake is delicious! That was maybe my favorite part of the meal. The service was excellent. I don't know if I've had friendlier or more helpful service at any restaurant ever. The friendly service makes me excited to return. I don't know when, but I expect there will be a next time.

Is this establishment affiliated with Au Cheval, in downtown Chicago?

Yes it is. They spun off due to popularity of their burgers.

Is the fried chicken sandwich gluten free with done with the gluten free bun?

Their menu says it can be made gluten-free. I know they have gluten-free buns, too.

The bun was the first signal they knew what they were doing--lightly toasted, just enough structure to hold everything together without stealing attention. Then came the patty: thick, juicy, with that perfect sear that gives you a bit of crisp before it melts into richness. But the real centerpiece? The fried egg. Perfectly cooked--edges slightly crisp, yolk still runny. The moment you bite in, it breaks and seeps into the meat, turning each bite into something borderline indulgent. It doesn't overpower the burger; it elevates it, adding a creamy texture that balances the salt and char of the beef. The toppings were minimal but intentional--fresh lettuce for crunch, a slice of tomato for brightness, and just enough sauce to tie it all together without making a mess. It's the kind of burger that makes you slow down halfway through, not because you're full, but because you realize it deserves your full attention. Messy in the best way, rich without being overwhelming, and anchored by that fried egg that takes it from good to unforgettable.

After a bite, I opened the burger and it didn't smell right so that stopped me in my tracks. Then, I tried the fries and almost choked on the salt caked all over it. Whoever took care of the fries must not have paid attention to what they were doing or someone double-salted it. I took pictures because it is insane how much salt that was not only on the fries but at the bottom of the bag. It is difficult to see the picture of the salt in the bag but the entire bottom of the bag was covered in salt. Everything was inedible and what I ate which was a handful of fries (after I tried wiping off the salt from it with napkins) and that bite of the burger made me sick! I reported this to their corporate office and so far I only got an automated email asking for another chance. Good luck with that. I will follow-up with Cook County Department of Health because they will make other people sick. I will NEVER go there or any Five Guys again. But, I still sick to my stomach.

A short fuse and a close call…read more After Emily and I checked in to our hotel room, we wanted to stretch our legs and see if there was anything nearby for some beer and some food. Turns out, Short Fuse was right up the road and a 5 minute walk got us there. For a Sunday, it wasn't too busy but not dead, so we got seated right away. We ordered some beer and took a look at the menu. While nothing really struck our fancy, our waitress made a comment that if we did want any food, it might be slim pickings as they were running out of stuff. Turns out, this day was the last day they were open. Talk about timing! After she mentioned that, I started to notice that people were buying bar signs and various other things. Emily started off with a Guava Gose and I grabbed a Krankshaft kolsch. We sampled each other beers and we both really liked what the other ordered. I don't really know what a gose is but, damn, was that good! I've had Krankshaft before so I knew what I was getting myself in to. We ended up ordering a second round of the same beers and let each other sample the other's beer a little more liberally this time. While we were kind of hungry, nothing on the menu really struck our fancy, especially considering they might've been out of it. Room service took care of those hunger pangs later after a few more beers in the hotel bar. Online reviews for this place seemed hit and miss but I really enjoyed my time there and really enjoyed the artwork on the walls and the vibe of the place. We did contemplate buying some bar signs on our way out but declined as we don't know what we would exactly do with them. Not wanting to go extreme I decided on a Philly chicken sandwich. It was served in a thin, long, hoagie type bun which I don't think is Turano. The chicken was drier than it should have been and the bun was rubbery. When the filling lacks freshness, good cheeses or sauces, it becomes a waste of stomach space to continue consuming. All in all, I gave this quiet business some money to keep the lights on till warmer seasons. The cashier told me that is when they are busier.
