When in the Chicago area, you must have a Chicago-style dog from Portillo's. It's an unspoken rule, right?! We went through the drive thru (love that at this location) and I did it all, the peppers and pickle and the full on Chicago way and (again) enjoyed the experience. Drove through the pick up line and really appreciated the wonderful girl taking our order; she was so nice, patient, and had a lot of good recommendations. She recommended some chili cheese fries with bacon and it was absolutely delicious! Will continue ordering it this way when I get back home to CA. The service overall is very friendly and thorough. This is a different kind of Portillo's location, this is a take out only - no dine in available inside. I've never seen a Portillo's like this before but it was pretty cool to see. They have all your classic menu items - beef sandwiches, hot dogs etc. I love the beef sandwich at Portillo's and experienced great customer service from the manager Valaria, my order was incorrect initially, but she corrected it very quickly and was super friendly. I haven't seen this kind of Portillo's before; it's strictly a takeout place. I'm not sure these will be common--the proximity to O'Hare makes me think it's something to do with ease for people heading to the airport or something. They have the full menu but you can only do drive through. As with most Portillo's now, they only take card through the drive-up so you'll need to make sure you have a card or digital wallet handy (though if you can only pay cash, I think most if not all of the restaurants take cash inside, so head to another Portillo's). The food quality was just about the same as any Portillo's. But as a tip, if you're coming to Portillo's for Italian beef, don't. Johnnie's has the best Italian beef hands down, and there's a Johnnie's in Arlington Heights about 10 minutes away. It's worth a drive of a few minutes more. read more

It was the slowest pick up line ever! Which made no sense because it wasn't as busy as the other regular Portillo.

Fast casual Italian beef spot. Pretty decent New to town, and saw that these guys offered a lot of the staples for a Chicago food run. So made a stop to give this place a try. Weakest thing was the tamale. it was this weird mushy flavor profile. the masa and the beef had the same texture, and the masa was pasty. I was not a fan of that tamale. The strongest was the polish sausage. That thing was massive, charred well, and had plenty of toppings. That was a meal in of itself, and the execution was on point. Get me some deep fried perogis with some sour cream to dip and I would've been a very happy man. The italian beef and chicago dog were good but nothing special. I liked the softness of the bun and the topping to meat ratio of both. The italian beef was a bit too soggy and the meat was overcooked. but the flavor was solid and the portion was generous. The chicago dog had all the right toppings and a good charred hot dog, but it wasn't split and grilled, and I prefer natural casings to get that snap. Price was okay for the amount we ordered. it's very much set up to be a chic fil a but with sandwiches and hot dogs. It's not bad for what it is, and you would be hard pressed to find better representations of Chicago classics. It's good, but not what I would consider a destination spot. Review of Portillo to go - we came here for a quick take-out bite. One of my favorite meal places when frequently visiting to Chicago. Your order from the kiosk and then wait in the small lobby area. I had the two hot dog with everything combo, onion rings, and a soda. We also tried the vegan dog with everything. The onion rings were perfectly crisp and the dogs had so much flavor. Even the vegan dog was quite good. Frankly, if you go to Portillo - you gotta try da meats! This location is better for drive through as it is a to go establishment with nowhere to eat inside. They are slipping for sure! The quality has been declining in recent years, but we came through the drive thru after picking up a family member at the airport. It was 7:30 on a weeknight, and there was 1 car in front of us. He took our order with no problem, then we got to the window/door for the pick up. We see now there are actually 2 cars in front of us. Still, no big deal. I mean, it's a strictly take out restaurant anyway. Welll.... we were waiting, and waiting, and waiting... It took at least 10 minutes for the car in front, then another 5-10 minutes for the next car. They did bring out 1 or 2 orders for people behind us (and yes, I understand that if their order is ready faster, they take them out). But, we ordered a few hot dogs, one burger, some fries and a shake. Nothing that should have taken 20 minutes!! On top of that, the fries were barely warm and they forgot the straws. For being the location closest to the airport where out of town visitors stop, this is not a good example of the Portillo's experience. 2 nights ago I ordered a breaded chicken sandwich and it had a strange flavor almost like fish or old cooking oil. This location is already notorious for 'skimming' your credit card info. I have had to contact my bank twice within a month for fraudulent charges to my account. If you use the drive-thru be sure and keep an eye on your credit card account for duplicate charges. They scan with portable scanners so it's easy to commit fraud. I looked through the window and saw a ton of large fry's sitting on the rack and they were making tons of cake shakes. After about 8 minutes they tell me to pull forward there waiting on the fries. I repeat, I ordered A Large fry and cake shake. I immediately pushed back and said no you shouldn't make me pull up for the simplest order. I said I won't. I wanted to walk over as I was within walking distance, but had to drive so I could use drive thru as I didn't want to order online. Beware -They do not take cash! Card only. Thankfully no obnoxious tip page was shoved in my face. That seems to be the norm now for non service purchases. I heard so many good things about Portillos but I found it to be only okay. The fries were super limp and the sandwich was small and nothing better than the McDonald's across the street. . Sandwich, fries and a drink was about 14 dollars. Definitely not worth it. Driving to the hotel next door where I was staying, food was cold when I got to my room. Save your money. Not worth the trip even if right next door. read more
