Wow. This place is so cool! The atmosphere is beautiful, love the vibe and great service. The food was really delicious, we were all very happy with our order. I was really excited to see they also had gluten free and dairy free options. We also really liked the shakes we tried (kiddo approved, she loved the grilled cheese and said the shake was also great, loved dipping her fries into it. The fries are awesome, by the way.). Definitely not like anything I have had before, the quality and freshness of it all is impressive and I am really glad we tried it. We will be back for sure! Food was good, but obscenely priced, even for today. Nearly $60 for 2 cheeseburgers, 2 fries, 1 coke, and 1 beer. While the burger meat quality was superior to most burger joints, the rest of the menu is not, and the pricing is way beyond what any burger shack should be charging. They offer a wagyu burger, which doesn't make sense, since burgers are ground beef with fat already. Wagyu would just be excessively greasy, but it's "trendy," which is concerning. Burger meat was good quality. Bacon was disappointingly thin (and no pricing provided for the add-on). Bun was nothing special. The fries are thin, and were cooked and seasoned well. It should also be noted, the ketchup and fries are completely different than the Wicker Park location, but those familiar are warned. Service was a little slow, but this is a new location. Had to ask for more ketchup several times. Lack of a condiment station is disappointing. The dining room has booths around the walls, but the tables within said booths are bolted down, so adjusting for smaller patrons (children) or larger adults is not possible. The remaining seating are 6-8 seat round tables with stools. High quality materials, but bizarre size choice. Would work better with square/rectangular tables for 4. Ultimately, while the food is good, the price for 2 meals at a burger joint should not exceed $35, and this was nearly double that. There are tons of other independent restaurants (this is owned by a restaurant group) that provide high quality burgers at reasonable prices. read more

Okay, so I'll probably get a lot of slack for this review because everyone raves about this place but for me...not that special. We had been looking to try Small Cheval for a long time now as they are always featured as one of the best burgers in the Chicagoland area year in and year out. We finally visited the Rosemont location yesterday to celebrate my wife's birthday. First off, the vibe of the location was pretty cool. Really neat open air dining experience and just a neat place to hang. This is probably the only reason I'm rating at a 3 and not a 2. Food wise...I guess I just don't get it. Ordered a double cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger wasn't bad per se, just nothing special and to be perfectly honest, I'd prefer a Shake Shack burger to this. Fries were actually pretty good however, absolutely drowning in salt which is not my favorite. Will I come back you ask? Nope. Do yourself a favor and take a drive out to Cary and hit up Tracks. Amazing burgers and will cost you less too. read more

They need to work out their issues at the Rosemont location. I'm from the city and have never had an issue. The burgers are amazing and my favorite. I love the Truffle cheese for the French fries and the customer service used to be excellent when they first opened up. Now it's like they are always forgetting something. One time I ordered food and the Truffle cheese for my fries. The woman repeated my order to me twice and I pulled around to pay for my order. Got home and ready to eat and there was no Truffle cheese. I called the restaurant only to find out that the woman didn't add Truffle cheese to my order. Decided to try them again and they never asked me if I wanted honey mustard for my chicken tenders. But, they made sure to ask me if I needed anything else for the fries besides the Truffle cheese. And their sundaes are very disappointing, it's just a cup of ice cream with a maraschino cherry on top. read more

Just tried to go to small Cheval in Rosemont. And I mean tried. Went inside where there was a line out the door and they only had one person in the register! We saw they had a drive through so we tried that instead of waiting inside, that was worse not only did no one come out to take our order they didn't even acknowledge all the cars in the line. I realize this is supposed to be a better experience than a McDonald's but at least at McDonald's they know how to handle people in line and the drive through to get there order quickly! Ok I'll start by saying I've had other locations of small Cheval and they were amazing. This location not so much. The ONLY reason I even gave a second star was because the staff were super nice. I ordered the original double cheeseburger and I've never seen a burger cooked so unevenly. One half of each burger was almost completely raw hamburger and the other half medium. The problem is they were stacked opposite eachother so every bite had mostly raw meat. It was horrifying. With tip($5) for two burgers, one fry with cheese, and two cans of pop my total was $45. The only thing that tasted good or was edible were the sauces. Love the Dijonaise and the truffle sauce but even that truffle oil lingered and I couldn't escape the burping of that all night. The fries they gave us were all the weird end type pieces when again I've had other locations and know how the fries typically look. I always say there's a rosemont curse that any restaurant that opens a location there will always be the worst version and it seems like that's the case here. They really need to get it together if they are gonna charge that much for burgers. After picking mine apart I wound up throwing most of it away. read more

Went to Small Cheval around 11:00 on a Monday. There were some customers but not a lot. Had their burgers and fries. Burger was good, but nothing special at all. The food is way overpriced for what it is. One of my biggest gripes is the extra 3% hidden "surcharge" added, then they also ask for a tip at this counter service burger joint. I won't return as long as the surcharge is in place. There are plenty of other choices in the area. read more

I am baffled that this hamburger holds such high remarks. The bacon was greasy & tasted rancid. Friendly staff, attractive interior. 1 hamburger 1 cheeseburger 1 fry 1 side a bacon and a coke $48, and there was a RESTAURANT FEE of $2 on our receipt. So, my family and I dined in here on 5/12/24 and at first the place looked promising. As we walked in, the dining area was different with the open roof, but interesting. We were not greeted when we came in and after deciding what we wanted, still wasn't greeted at the register. We had ordered 3 of the burgers, chicken strips, 2 orders of fries, 2 cans (yes cans) of pop, and a lemonade from their fountain. After getting a shock of the price, which was about $70 for the meal, the one thing I didn't understand was why did the register ask me when I was paying if I wanted to leave a tip?! We didn't order from a waiter/ waitress, I stood at a counter like at a Burger King and placed my order, so who was I tipping? Then I was informed and given a buzzer thing to let me know when my order was ready I could come pick it up at the counter. Again, who am I tipping? We took our seats and while waiting, I looked over the receipt. Wow, I was a bit surprised to see that a can of pop was $3 and the lemonade was $5! On top of the price, it was not very big and packed with ice. So $11 for 3 drinks, I couldn't believe it. The burger and chicken tenders I would say were about average prices, around $10-$11, but nothing else with it. You have to pay for the fries which were about $4.50 each. Last charge which I still do not understand or was told about was a restaurant surcharge fee. At the bottom of the receipt, it says that it is added and can be removed by upon request. Well, if I knew about it I would have told them to remove it. We got buzzed to pick up our food and overall it didn't look bad. The chicken strips were in my opinion the best of the meal. The fries were not that bad, but nothing I'd say worth $4.50 each. Unfortunately, we were not impressed with the burgers at all. Honestly think I've had a better burger at Burger King, especially I could pay about the same price for a meal there for the price of the burger at Small Cheval. The burger actually seemed over cooked, almost dry, not a lot of flavor and whole thing began to fall apart with every bite. I just left there. I went through the drive-through. I'm an Uber driver but not just this place. I was very disappointed. Waited for a long time for it to open. Finally got there and the french fries were not even cooked enough and the tastes not great typical string french fries. Hamburger was very thin and not even cooked. It was raw well I won't say it was raw, but it wasn't cooked even medium rare it was awful. I didn't even finish it so I might go back to try one more time I've never been to a Chevelle before so I don't understand why they only have one cheese to put on a hamburger but that's just me. Went for lunch had the signature double cheeseburger (was asked well done or medium, went medium), golden fries with aioli dip, and a can of diet coke for about $22. Burger was dry and looked well done, fries were not very crispy but the Aioli dip saved the fries. Heard good things about the main restaurant but haven't been there, but if the small cheval is any indication not sure if the main will be as good for the price you pay. Walk in. Customer service was good. Food was pretty fast. But the food was sub par. Fries tased like grease n soggy. The bacon is nothing like the other locations where it's a thicker nice cut bacon. My girlfriends burger was rare inside one do the patties. The over flavor of the burger was not it. We didn't finish our food and left pretty quick. The lemonade super our and super sweet at the same time. Didn't take more than 2 sips. The only thing that was passable was the chicken tenders. Wouldn't go again, or to that location anyway. taste nothing like the other small cheval/au cheval. two cheeseburgers, fries, side of garlic aioli, and one chocolate milk shake later and I was disgusted with what I got. the fries have changed and they've been different for a while now but not sure why they decided to make this change. they're ok Burger was also okay. But def not like it use to be The garlic aioli tasted like hot dog water to me... and hear me out... I love their garlic aioli... but this was disgusting. I'm not sure what changed about that but it was not good. At all. No where near what it use to be. And the chocolate milkshake use to be my favorite chocolate milkshake of all time and when I got it it just wasn't that great. I'm not sure how to explain it but (I typically don't like chocolate milkshakes) and small chevals chocolate milkshakes usually taste like a light chocolate milkshake. not too chocolatey but just enough to taste... but this one tasted like straight chocolate syrup and it wasn't good at all.... Something changed. The ice cream was the same but something was off about the syrup. The interior is pretty and bright. The condiments weren't out like they usually are at other small chevals which was weird. So you have to go to the front and ask... Idk seems to me that Brendan Sodikoff is starting to cheap out just like the rest of them. It is quite expensive and usually we are willing to pay because it just use to be that good.
