cupcakes with white frosting and red sprinkles
Harsh C.

Came here to check out this popular cupcake shop. I have to say the atmosphere and options at Small cakes were really nice. There are also gluten free options. We ordered the Red Velvet cupcake as well as the chocolate creme and both were pretty decent. I do think for the price and the amount of sugar in each cupcake it is not really worth going here again. I think it was nice to try once, but we were not able to finish the cupcakes and probably will not visit again. Overall, it is nice to check out once if you are feeling a sweet tooth.

Pupcakes - mini carrot cake with peanut butter frosting

I was looking up a place to get a tiny cake that my dog can eat for her birthday and found that Smallcakes makes individual mini "pupcakes" -- so adorable. They are carrot cake mini cupcakes with peanut butter frosting and a tiny dog bone biscuit on top. They come in separate containers with lids. I preordered and paid online the day before. They were very friendly at the store and I was in and out fast. I will come back again for these pupcakes.

Adorable cupcakes brought to me courtesy of my friend! My chingoo brought me two cupcakes for dogsitting her pup this past weekend. Baked goodies are the best form of payment! Chocolate Cream: chocolate cake filled with our signature buttercream topped with our signature fudge frosting with a dollop of buttercream. And this dollop of buttercream makes the cupcake look strangely like a hostess cupcake. It even has the filling in the middle. Tasty treat! Choco-holic: chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream topped with valrhona chocolate sprinkles. So.Much.Chocolate!!!! Both cupcakes were good with fairly moist cake and fairly good frosting. The shop is open Sundays which is a big plus! Every day they have some special seasonal flavors. Mmm Mmm Mmm!

I used Smallcakes for dessert for my niece's bridal shower this past Sunday. First time that I have used them. We had an cupcake "cake" in the shape of an engagement ring, plus additional treats (cake pops, brownies). They were wonderful! Such a success. Everyone loved the all the treats! I would highly recommend.

Stoped here wail waiting for some food. Cute little place. They have an excellent variety and everything looks great. Took a hot fudge Sunday cupcake and a cookies and cream home. They pack them really special in perfect boxes that keep them well protected. We didn't get to them until the next day and they were still perfect. Their frosting it was light and not too sweet. Can't wait to sry something else

I travel. I eat. The best Cupcakes in America (so far as I have tasted) are at '83 Sweets in Lucasville, Ohio; it is the standard because the icing on the cupcakes do not overpower the cake part below; everything there is balanced; i swear they are worth ordering and being shipped; they are that good! With this said, most cupcakes are too top-heavy; this means that the icing on top is way too sugary and puts the sugar-to-cake-taste ratio too high! (although all cupcakes are good). I asked about the best cupcake here at Smallcakes by the kind blonde lady at the front; some of the young teenage customers said "red velvet" (which is perhaps my favorite cake, or at least, cupcake, of all time). But the shop lady said the Italian Wedding Cake is #1. So I tried it. It is like most cupcakes, too top-heavy with sugar. On the icing was some pearl hard/candy/sugar-type topping which added to the aesthetic; it was pleasing to the eye. I was told the peanut butter [?chocolate?] cupcakes are very good also. I expect any cupcake here to be top-heavy sugary just like most cupcakeries / bakeries around the U.S. make them. Final review note: if I am ever back in St. Charles, I would come back here to have another cupcake because, hey, CUPCAKES RULE and because I do respect small business owners and wish them success; they put their hearts and souls into their businesses. And that means something to me. I liked the cute little store atmosphere. Thanks for the cupcake! Until we meet again!

Caramel Crunch decorated with festive pretzels

Came in on a Sunday afternoon with my boyfriend. We were walking around St. Charles because we thought it looked so cozy. I love gourmet cupcakes, so I was ecstatic to see a cupcake shop! Smallcakes is a lovely little shop decorated all over with pink and chalkboard signs. The tables are designed to look like barrels with a tabletop, and the chairs are rather uncomfortable--they were metal barrel-like seats. We walked in through the back and the storefront was arranged nonsensically. There is really only room for two people to stand in front of the cupcake display. It kind of curves toward the window, making it extremely difficult for more than two to browse the cupcakes. I felt like I was being pushed against the glass entrance because there were three children and two adults in front of me. I asked the woman behind the counter what the most popular cupcake was, and she recommended the "Caramel Crunch". So I opted to purchase one to share with my boyfriend! The cupcakes are $3.25 a piece and I believe $36 for a dozen. We ate the cupcake in the store and it really was nothing great. The chocolate cake tasted nothing better than something store bought or made from a box. And the caramel topper was a weird consistency that was too too sweet. I must admit that the caramel topper was delicious with the pretzel, but the cupcake was just subpar and disappointing. The children before us seemed to enjoy their cupcakes a lot, though!

Almond Cupcake with Candle and Birthday Cake Cupcake with the Happy Birthday Sign.

We just got two cupcakes. Priced as expected for a specialty bakery. They even supplied a candle very happy birthday sign. One cupcake we got was almond flavor and very good.

Better than others around town.

What a perfect way to finish off a great dinner night out with the hubby. They have gluten free choices and I really appreciated that even at the end of the day and on a holiday weekend there were full choices of flavors and treats. We thought there would be only a few left at the end of the day- but HUGE surprise- all filled in!!! We did see a couple just stop in and see what they had- PEOPLE, buy a cupcake for goodness sake!! You won't regret the massive calorie binge!!!

I love this cute little cupcake bakery! They have a bunch of different flavors! I picked up 3 cookies & cream and 3 double chocolate today and my husband and kids loved them! They are boxed nicely and didn't tip over on the car ride home. Highly recommend you stop by and satisfy your sweet tooth!

Peanut butter cup, boston cream, pink vanilla, snickers

Enjoyed my first trip to Smallcakes in St. Charles. The employee on duty was extremely friendly, explained all of the different cupcakes to me- and all of them were beautiful and looked delicious. We decided to choose four different cupcakes- I think the pink vanilla was my favorite. One of the four cupcakes was a little dry- but the other three were moist and unique. I will definitely head back again to try some of their other varieties- they seem to change what they are creating very often.

The attention to detail was incredible, and everything looked just as amazing as it tasted. From the very beginning, the communication was exceptional. The team kept us updated every step of the way, making the entire process smooth and stress free. It was clear how much care and effort went into every detail to bring our vision to life. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how beautiful and delicious everything was. A huge shoutout to the management and staff for going above and beyond throughout the entire process. Everyone was so kind, responsive, and genuinely invested in making sure everything turned out perfectly. I highly recommend Hey Sugar for any celebration. They helped make our graduation party so special, and I can't wait to order from them again!

But more than that, the frosting was good and still tasted great, but the cupcake itself was dry as a bone!!! When I called to provide the feedback directly, I asked when these were baked....Tuesday or Wednesday...and as of this writing it is Friday night!!! So, I just paid $5 or whatever for a 3 day old cupcake?!?!...at least. IF they were baked up Tuesday morning, it's almost FOUR days old. If you're going to have a 'niche' cupcake business in downtown Geneva, you should plan on baking almost every, single day so your customers are getting FRESH product. Very disappointed.

First, the entire store is a walk through chocolate history and creations, with a Chocolate Tree in the center. The shop was featured on Food Network! We ordered a chocolate martini, brownie and iced pistachio latte. The chocolate martini was amazing. The martini was rich and creamy. We shared the brownie and it was so rich, we could not finish it. We ordered the iced pistachio latte as the refreshing conclusion to the chocolate feast. A delectable treat in Geneva.

It was a pleasurable experience, perfect on a rainy Saturday spring day. The service was fantastic!! Starting with reservations, which was a "comedy of errors" to the moment we left. Esther's friendliness and attention to our comfort and taste elevated our experience. We started with the light, flakier tasty warm classic scones. Then we moved to the delicious, satisfying, variety of finger sandwiches - the traditional cucumber was perfectly refreshing to clean the palate before the sweet phase of our meal. In the mix there was a spinach-cheese tart which it would have been tastier served warm. I selected a violet dark tea which was lighter than I expected, perhaps it would have been stronger if would have let if brew a little longer. The assortments of pastries/sweets were delectable and mouth-watering - macaron, sponge cake, coconut chocolate drizzled macaroons, custard, and a truffle. All inviting, succulent, and scrumptious. I will be back!
