Do you ever need club size items for a party, or catering job, or maybe just one or a small item for your dinner that evening. Maybe you just really don't want to drive far, or have the time to go to the nearest costco. Maybe it those long lines, or crowds? Smart & Final is a store that has a little bit of that club feeling to it, but also gives you that regular grocery store quality as well. This store is fully stocked and clean, staff is fairly nice and helpful. The only thing that I see, that needs improvement is that, they're a little slow in opening up a second cashier, when the line gets long. I would like to say that most of the workers at this location were very helpful and polite, except for one young man "matthew" as he was gathering the carts. I asked respectfully if i can have one, he proceeded to look at me up and not say a single word except walk away. I've never had an experience like this with any retail company and i was taken aback by such an action i've never felt so disrespected at my local grocery store, i hope this problem gets fixed i love this location and i've never had such a problem with an employee. read more

Walked in today to return some items that I had purchased over the weekend. First thing that I encounter as I walk in was Jennifer. She acted and looked like someone had woken up on the wrong side of the cave this morning. I asked if I needed to stand in her line or go somewhere else for my return. Jennifer was rude and unprofessional. She constantly rolled her eyes and snickered. She made a mistake on my return, lied and said that my transaction was correct even after I asked her to verify. She was unapologetic for her mistake and had a poor attitude before, during and after our interaction. If Jennifer was unhappy with being at work today, she should have stayed at home. She should never be interacting with customers. Poor attitude and less professionalism should not be the first thing that I encounter when I walk into your store as a customer. Another associate named Stephen Edward ( the reason why I'm actually giving a star) was more that happy to assist me and correct the problem that Jennifer created. He even made up an excuse for her and apologized on her behalf even when she continued to be rude, unprofessional and unapologetic. Waited in line for two minutes while another employee cuts in front of me to buy her drink. No greeting, nothing. Just looks right at me and turns her back towards me at the register. Actually it's a 2.5 stars, it seems like they always do not refill or replenish out of stock items. The customer service is just mediocre - no greetings "smiles" (which is more important than ever) since we have been social distancing with masks on; so nodding or saying welcome or hello usually makes up for the facial smiles...as I paid for my purchased items and noticed a hand sanitizer on the counter was available since the pump is up and opened, so I pumped it onto my hand but the cashier just gave me this mean/ icy look and snatch it away in front of me afterwards. Cashier was friendly during checkout. Prices were pretty good, but the social organization is bad. If you're going to implement rules for customers in this time, make sure the employees follow them as well. I spotted an associate not staying 6ft from a customer AND with his mask down; employees were cutting in front of customers waiting in line instead of going around to grab a price check or something; there are no arrows to control customer traffic. What is the point of staying six feet apart if people can't even keep themselves in check? I did not feel safe shopping here given asymptomatic people walking about out there and I just wanted to leave after walking in for the first 15 seconds of being there, but sadly, I needed my groceries but will be the last time I shop here. We NEED these on the East Coast! This is basically a small big box store without the membership fee. So many great prices and great volume sizes! We were impressed with the candy packages, and multi packs of gum packages, but there were regular sized items as well. We were able to get regular sized packages of cookies and treats for our hotel room. If you're in California and a few things or a giant bag of tortilla chips... check this place out. It's tough for this store I guess coz F4L is just across the street and they also sell some stuff in bulk. But I do find myself coming to this store when they have a sale now and again. Although the aisles are smaller than most grocery stores they tend to keep their place clean and their stocks in order. They are open at standard hours (see photo by another reviewer) so if you're a night owl like me I usually tend to go elsewhere rather than try to beat the clock. Parking is adequate even when they have to share with other stores in the plaza. read more

I usually stop by the Smart & Final in Covina but was passing thru Baldwin and decided to stop. The the veggie stands where almost all empty (no restock). No avocados, no lemons, cucumbers and etc. The chicken had a lot of frost bite and half of item did not have price. Don't waste your time. I understand that supplies are low and there are only a certain amount of disinfectants that someone can buy. I went about 10 minutes ago to this location and saw that there were Clorox disinfectants sprays so I grabbed two and went in line. While in line a female sale associate came up to me saying "you're only allowed one spray", totally fine I understand everything going on. But then she just snatched it out of my arms and left without asking, it would've been different if she offered to take it because I had so many things in my hands...it's a matter of curtesy and safety. She came within my personal space which made me uncomfortable and snatched the product out of my arms. In the future put a sign in front of the products because there is none and tell employees it's not okay to come into customers personal space and take things from them if customers are compliant. read more

Smart & Final is a mini food warehouse, which sells grocery items in mostly bulk sizes at discounted prices. There are some items available in normal size packaging too. This store is clean and about half the size of a typical supermarket and the layout of the aisles are angled, way smaller than their Smart & Final Extra stores, the nearest location is in Montebello. The prices are pretty good, but only if the items are on sale, otherwise the regular prices seem a bit high compared to shopping at Costco, Sam's Club, and WinCo. A SmartAdvantage card (no membership fee) is required for many of the sale items. The sales flyer is distributed with the Tribune and we always wait for the good deals before going here. As for the deals, we stock up on soda, water, beer, snacks (bulk size), noodles, frozen food, and TP, of course! We tend to buy just enough of what we need and are not going to spend a fortune on bulk items that are overpriced. read more

It was obvious I was struggling to hold everything but he didn't offer to get a cart or basket for me either. Checkout lines had at least 15 people on them and only 1 register open. Last week I bought bacon from this S&F the brand farmer john , first I thought I bought a good deal a package of 2 for less than $6 obviously I got ripped off the top were very fresh the bottom rotten. This Smart and Final is smaller than most that I have been too but the staff is super friendly and helpful. They have a big selection of bulk items at this store but be sure to check out their adds to find the best deals. The aisles at this store are smaller so it might be a bit over crowded at times. The only negative things about this store is that they usually only have about two people working the registers so you might have to wait in line a bit, the store might want to add another person to work the register to speed things up a bit. read more

Serious listening problem. Very rude customer service. We found an open box of containers (their last one) and were worried that it had been tampered with and touched, as not only the box was opened but the plastic bag which was sloppily taped up. So we thought, well, maybe if they give us a discount, we'll take it stills we could just wash each container. And keep in mind that these are disposable containers that restaurants use. Do you think you'd want a bunch of random people at a store, where they might touch raw meat or be sick or where they may have even dropped these containers on the floor, touching a container you use to put your food in? We'd of course have to take the extra precaution of washing them to ensure they're sanitary enough. You shouldn't have to do that. But if they offer a modest discount, we'd at least appreciate the acknowledgment of the hassle. We asked, and the cashier (who for some reason was rude pretty early on) said, "It's all there." I responded with, "Can you guaranty that no one touched it?" And the cashier said, "Want me to count it?" I thought that that wasn't the point, but my wife agreed. The cashier opened it and offered one to my wife and said, "Do you want to check it?" And then my wife took it and the lady said, "Oh so it's okay for you to touch it?" I started yelling. I didn't like that she was practically trying to trap my wife. All she had to do was say, "Unfortunately, we still can't discount it even if it may have been tampered with." But no. This idiot cashier wanted to insult my wife. And not only that, but the very moment we got to checkout, the two cashiers seemed to have a serious attitude problem and weren't able to really listen to what we were asking. They had no idea how to handle this situation and went out of their way to not only be rude but insulting. Just ridiculous idiocy. read more

Every time I go in... Bags of oranges are all half full of smushed yucky GOING BAD oranges and BUGS. Gross.. All the milks in the fridges are dirty with CRUSTY OLD spilt milk and dirt.. Gross.. Horrible!! Horrible customer service! Came in looking for chips 5-10 min before they closed. The box of chips was messed with and was missing many chips. Went up to the counter to see if they had any more boxes, maybe in the back or anywhere else in the store. Guy at the register didn't even bother to lift a finger and help. The staff has always been nice and helpful. One complaint: Not to sound heartless or selfish but the only thing I don't like about this place is the homeless people that are always outside. Usually go here because it's convenient. Grabbed a protein off the shelf and "Monique" accused me taking it out of a box when I had to pay. I told her i didn't and she just finished charging me and asked me to remove my card out of the keypad. It's a small store but they have the essentials I would want to get in bulk. I come here to grab my junk candy in bulk and also my burger patties. Maybe once or twice I've gotten some plates and cups but I mainly just get candy and chips lol.
