While I was doing my shopping, I went to the vegetable and fruit section and saw this products rotten, this is disguising...I normally go shopping to this store and I like it but after seeing this rotten products all smashed or with fruit flies around, I don't know if I will line to go back. This is not the first time I see rotten products but is the first time I report here in Yelp as I mentioned this to Marcus in the past but I guess the employees don't check their products often. What started as a simple trip to purchase a few items turned into one of the most frustrating and disrespectful customer service experiences I have ever endured. I found myself standing at cashier #2, where Joseph was assisting a customer ahead of me. The customer was facing an endless series of credit card issues--tapping the card failed, inserting it failed, and after what felt like an eternity of repeated attempts, nothing worked. After 15 agonizing minutes of waiting--an unreasonable amount of time by any standard--I could no longer justify staying in line. Frustrated, I picked up my items and muttered, "This is ridiculous." To my utter shock, Joseph's response was not one of understanding or an attempt to resolve the issue, but instead, he arrogantly remarked, "If you don't like it, you can go somewhere else." To say I was taken aback would be an understatement. A manager--someone who is supposed to set the standard for customer service--told me, a long-time customer of over 20 years, to simply leave if I was dissatisfied. When I moved to Nora's register to complete my purchase and asked to speak to the store manager, Joseph again boldly declared that he was the manager and once more repeated, "If you don't like it, go somewhere else." In my entire life, I have never encountered such blatant disregard for customer care and respect. The situation escalated to a level that was simply inexcusable. Even Nora, who was courteous and helpful, apologized on Joseph's behalf, clearly aware of how inappropriate his behavior was. This entire interaction left me furious, frustrated, and insulted. Is this how Smart & Final now treats its loyal customers? I can only hope this is not the standard of service for Smart & Final. read more

This store used to be super great. I was there again today and for the second time left a full cart in the checkout lane. The new checkers they have hired are useless. I stood for three minutes while the short dumpy checker had social hour with a customer she obviously knew. During social hour no items are bagged or scanned. The checker was manning the express lane 15 items or less. The checkers friend had at least 40 items and needed two carts. Best employee ever. My wife and I met Marcus, who in my humble opinion, should be fast tracked to manager asap. We've been shopping here ever since they opened, way back. Marcus showed us how to use the Smart and Final app and showed us areas/sections of the store that we regularly bypass. Preparing for a large event, I needed some items that S & F carries. Living over 30 miles away, I called to see if these items were in stock. MARCUS answered and offered to check. He told me they did have the items and, after explaining I wouldn't be able to get there till after work, he told me not to worry, he would hold them for me. I have been coming to Smart and Final for 6 years and am grateful we have them in our city. I would like to give a big shout out to Marcus. He has helped me countless times over the years and I have felt that he genuinely cares about helping the guest. Each time he has helped me he has shown that the importance of my needs are equally important to him. Most of the time I go there for bulk purchases and a majority of the time I have needed help Marcus has been there to save the day. He has recognized many times I have needed help and offered before I could ask. Most places I have been to will not offer to help with some of the bulk purchases, but he has helped me on numerous occasions with a smile. I'm talking hundreds of bags of ice, pallets of water, other bulk paper supplies and he is mindful to keep the goods from being damaged. This is the first and only location I've ever visited. I had a very mixed experience. And although my experience wasn't all bad, there are too many competitors that I've had positive experience with, that are close by. As you can see by the pictures attached to my review, I bought a rotten red onion. Bought a few other things here and then drove to my mom's, to make her lunch. Cut into that onion, saw how bad it was and was annoyed that I had to go back to the store just minutes after leaving it. I would expect this kind of produce quality from the 99 cents store but not here. That being said, the store itself was super clean. Everything is displayed and organized well and the staff is very helpful and nice. When I brought the red onion back and exchanged it for a yellow onion, I was afraid it was going to be a long and annoying process. Luckily the cashier just said, "take it." I lost 10 cents but I prefer this to waiting for a manager and going through a long and annoying process. read more

I have enjoyed shopping at Smart & Final for many years.... One reason is that the parking is convenient. Also, the store is always clean, and when you see employees, they are busy stocking/restocking. I especially enjoy the produce section it always looks beautiful. There is an employee who has been cordial and efficient for at least 8 years. No matter what time of day, if she sees my family and I, she always says smiles, says hello, and asks about my family. Valerie is pleasant and professional. Thank you, Valerie! In addition, there's a fabulous gentleman who I have bumped into three times now named MARCUS, he's energetic, he's professional, he doesn't hesitate to direct you or carry something for you with a positive attitude! Whether it's in the parking lot or down in the aisle, if you can't find the product you're looking for, this gentleman will purposely make himself available to help the customer. These are unusual behaviors nowadays in many stores sometimes.....it's just so pleasant and delightful to shop in a store where you know that you will interact with employees who want to be there and are also all about customer service. I'm going to finalize this with, I do feel safe when I am there, and that is a reason why many people will choose to shop in a store versus other stores. read more
