First, Smart and Final Extra is a large store, with wide isles. It makes this store easy to shop at while in an electric cart. I am thankful for getting a cart that was clean and charged, and I could shop without running into displays and people. Now for the products the store has available for the public. There is a large variety of fruits and vegetables AND the place of origin where the produce came from clearly marked. I know now where I'll shop when the stir fry bug hits me. They carry bok choi as well as BABY bok choi! Unheard of. The cold cases are behind glass which keeps them safe from a sneezer or squeezer. Each turn of my cart yielded more variety than I thought was legal. I picked up some Stoffer French Bread pizza for my lunch, really tasty at $2.00 per double product. (Box of 2) I found a loaf of Blueberry bread to toast up for breakfast. It was amazing. If you are looking for products to round out your culinary, foodie lifestyle, this is your place. Lastly there is a nice amount of cheese in the center isle. Higher end ala Trader Joe's, at about the same price point. Smart and Final is a bit out of the way for me to shop at each outing, but I'll know where to go should I need a product I won't be able to find in other grocery stores. read more

I am a regular customer 2-4 times a week. I always have a great shopping experience until tonight. I asked employee Patrick if there were any more eggs 12 or 18 count. He didn't even bother to go check. All he said was what ever was out on the shelf is all they had. That another shipment was coming tomorrow. As I was walking out, employee Marcus offered to help with my groceries. I mentioned that I would be back tomorrow for eggs. He told me they had eggs and offered to go back in and get some for me. For bulk buying this is the best store in the Palm Springs/Cat City area, no membership required. I come here occasionally to stock up on paper towels and napkins - save so much $! It's fine for everyday shopping too. Good produce including an organic section. I'm always looking out for good deals on the types of sweet potatoes that are naturally sweeter, the purple or white-skinned varieties, and often found them here. The registers have tended to be a little slow during my visits but maybe that's because I've gone so early in the morning, and they're more lightly staffed then. Very nice employees. read more

I'm not a Costco fan, even though I have a membership. I don't like the crowds and the enormous sizes. Smart & Final gives me a viable alternative. They carry many of the grocery type items that I'm looking for. I've been able to get some pretty good deals on ripe bananas. I find myself buying prepared salads here every week. I like the types of cold cuts they carry. Produce is fresh and pretty, but a little more expensive than a typical grocery store. That makes sense to me, so I don't pick up too many vegetables here. What I tend to grab are cold cuts, cheese, bananas, chips, water, eggs, and those bistro salads. The store is immaculate and never have I ever had to wait at checkout. (Mind you, I go on a Sunday evening, so it isn't prime shopping time.) read more

If you want great service, I was walking around Smart and Final looking for some things needed for a specific diet. I was going to need products. Especially in large quantity. However, I couldn't find what I needed. An employee by the name of Marcus greeted me and genuinely helped me to look for some popsicles. We couldn't find it ; having been in grocery business prior, customer service is what I really look for. I shop at this Smart and Final sometimes 5 or 6 times a week. The reason I like it so much is the staff The Manager Ignacio, is friendly and always helpful. Everytime I am in there I get asked more than once if I need assistance finding something. The other employees I appreciate is a stock person named PJ, he always asks if I need help and helps me to load my car when I have extra large shops. I must inject, the produce section is very good and the prices are excellent..Fresh Meat, chicken, and etc. need improvement...not much of a selection. They always seem to be out of low fat milk in the quart size when I am there. (Milk is less expensive at Fresh and Easy.) The store is huge and very clean. I do have a problem with the check out stands as there never seems to be enough open and the lines can be quite long during peak hours. Plenty of free parking...employee's are nice but they really don't go all out to make you seem welcome (in my opinion). Of all the Smart and Finals that I've been to this is by far my favorite store. This location is much larger than most of their stores and has a great selection of inventory. They have great prices on almost everything especially in the liquor department. This location has the same downfall as all other Smart and Final stores. The customer service is very limited but if you do ask for help they will assist you. For some reason this company does not like to hire extra cashiers. With 6 customers in line with full baskets and only one cashier it's very frustrating. The cashier finally asked for help and within two minutes another one appeared. Very slow checkout! read more

Please hire more, and better cashiers. There is only ever 1 cashier and a long line. Recently, another cashier (Roxana) slowly walks up, turns her light on and stood there waiting. I watched her for the 2 transactions before and after me. She never said one word. When done ringing up the total, she just looks at the customer and says nothing. Plus you get to bag your own groceries and she couldn't even bother to slide your bag or purchases closer to you in order to do that. Terrible customer service! read more

When you want Costco prices, but just can't be bothered to drive all the way to Palm Desert from Palm Springs, this is the place to go. It's best to try for non-prime times, such as mid-mornings, when the lines tend to be shorter. Some items in bulk, some not, so it's good for normal shopping, not just Brady Bunch families. Just don't be in a hurry or you will get high blood pressure waiting in line at times. A self serve checkout for 10 items or fewer would be a nice addition to this store, following the lead of Sam's Club. read more
