When they first opened they were great. Lately the store is going down hill. I have been there at different times of the day and people are always trying to stock the shelves, leaving the isles a mess. Why aren't they doing this before the store opens? Many times I can't get down the isles. The store seems to be dirtier. I pointed out to my husband the dirt and scum left in the meat area, floors, as well as the refrigerators where the milk is. I've started to avoid this Smart and Final. Hopefully they can get it back on track as it was a good place to shop. read more

I really don't shop there very often because it seems no matter what time of the day or what day I go there the store always seems to have messy aisles, especially the produce and bread aisles, and long lines. For the most part the people working there are very nice and are helpful. I believe the prices on the items I have purchased, are fair. Were it not for that and the employees I would give a lower rating. read more

Went Norfolk San Mateo location to get some snacks for world series game 6. Family size items without having to go to Costco crowded checkout. A liitle faster here and there is free parking in this mini square. read more

I prefer going to Smart&Final for finding necessary items for BBQ'ing or any outdoor picnic related items. They have it all and stocked up well enough. Have always experienced excellent customer service from helping to find items, sale items, suggestions and checking out. read more

Smart and Final is like the Home Depot of grocery stores. There are so many choices to choose from, but you hardly see any employees. I could have easily taken 5 cases of Arrowhead water without them knowing. Periodically, Smart and Final will have great deals. They'll have cases of water (32 pack) for $3.99 which is extremely cheap compared to Costco. It is also a great alternative in terms of crowds to Costco because this place is a ghost town. Your typical Smart & Final. We go here to buy packs of the Crystal Geyser mini size bottled water. It's the only place I've seen them at. Sometimes the water wasn't stocked (hassle) but they grab it from the back for you. read more

I just went here for the first time this last week. Granted, this place is a bit weird, but for what I needed, it was great. I am making meals for several families with new babies and needed containers to put all the food in that I could use to transport everything. I also found some great cake decorating tips for cupcakes and some round decorative cutters to make ravioli, baked goods, etc. The food was interesting...I did buy some strawberries and they were great. Other stuff was mainly processed foods which I find scary, but for catering type items this store was great. read more

I love S&F and I especially love this location. Staff is always friendly and the store is always clean and well-stocked. If you want Costco-like quantities/prices, but don't want the Costco stress, (a chaotic parking lot, out the door lines), come to S&F. read more

Better selection than Costco. Even exotic hard to find things like a gallon of pickled eggs. I mean come on... A bucket of pepperoni sticks. You can't go wrong. My first time using Instacart home delivery and found that Smart n Final had the best prices and selection of groceries. And if they were out of stock they had several options to choose from. Nice and cool place to shop / service is friendly as well there is a lot of supporting staff there. They are good at what they do because they care ( will the people that I sealed with). I shopped there since I was young and before the "super" store open. The super store just made their store 100 times better. No complaints from me overall:). read more

Be very careful. My 70 year old mother bought gift cards there and was told the could activate them. So they told her they were cancelled. What really happened is the cost went through and the checker split with the cards. Management there acted professionally but never the less it was horrible and I am sure his isn't an isolated instance read more

This is a very good store. Their prices are very good and so is there produce. Good customer service. They do not have that good of a Meat selection but everything else is pretty good. Also, if you need to buy Sodas, they are pretty inexpensive. read more

We came in here looking for supplies for the Aloha festival. They had just about everything you need for businesses. We need some t shirt bags and supplies and found them. Staff was friendly and helpful. Store was full of people on a sat night. Right off of the freeway, great location. Wish they had one of these stores back in Hawaii. read more

This was my first time in this store, probably my last. I wanted to try them since I was told their prices compete with Grocery Outlet but they dont. What is worse is the service. I don't expect 4 star service but I don't expect rudeness and unprofessionalism. Cashier Donald, don't know what his problem is. I do know that there were 3 people ahead of me that he was cheerful and pleasant towards. Not sure if they are regulars but he was very friendly. I approached, smiled and said hello. He was not interested in eye contact or speaking. I barely got my change from him. Wont speculate as to why but I know he was rude. So S&F, if you are going to have rude employees, gladly take my money else where. Suggestion is to train them so other don't take their money elsewhere. This peace was really organized and clean. Associates are constantly asking if your doing ok or if you're finding everything just fine. Just that they need to open more register in order to help out the lines more efficient. There was only 2 register that was open and their was a lot of customers in the line. read more

Product Rang Incorrectly based off the sign, I was purchasing 3 coffee creamers on managers special. Cashier Ana OP#23022589 explained that the computer is right and that I am wrong. She was rude like really your going to wait over 90 cents, and called a manager over to verify the 90 cent discrepancy. Manager was going to override it but decide it was important to check to make sure my claim of the 3 things of creamer being over rang by 30 cents each was correct. So my transaction was suspended to ring up the next customer. Meanwhile seconds after she leaves she calls back and verifies that price I gave was accurate. So now I need to wait to for the next customers transaction to get finished. Really Smart and Final, who comes in to scam 90 cents off coffee creamer and further more if you put a policy in place that doesn't allow a cashier to over ride for 90 cents your manager with keys that comes over should be customer centric enough not to make a customer wait over 90 cents and further more if you do don't take the next customer who is going to make them wait longer. read more

They changed the store to add more products with a cleaner layout. The prices are very good and the quantities are more in line with what I can store in the kitchen. I shop here often and have no complaints. read more

If I could give negative rating I would, which is a shame because I shop here every weekend. But today they did something that is so unforgivable that I will never return and I feel that people need to be aware because there is a potential it could effect their health. Do my usual shopping and I pick up a carton of eggs that were wet and slimy, i look and over half the carton had been crushed. That is when I realize that my hands are covered in raw eggs. I don't want to touch anything for fear of contamination. They have two Purel stations in the store but both were empty. I can't find anyone stocking but remember that I had a couple of napkins in my purse. I do the best I can to wipe off the raw eggs and not to touch anything else on my way to the check stand. When I get there I tell the cashier and the bagger what has happened and that they may want to wipe down anything I touch because I have raw eggs on my hand. They shrug their shoulders and say it is okay they are fine, and then the bagger tells me he pets his snake everyday and has never gotten sick. So I ask them if they realize that I am going to touch the key pad with raw eggs on my had and they say it will be okay. Then as I am walking out I see and hear the cashier tell the guy behind me that I am crazy. Well if you call being health conscious crazy then I am guilty. And who knows maybe there was little chance of contamination but I personally would not want to take the chance. Then if they had any customer service they would break out a bottle of cleaner and a paper towel and wipe the stuff down in stead of saying I was crazy right in front of me. I understand that people of their own degree of risk that they are willing to take, I have some areas where I am not that diligent. But when it comes to raw food I don't take any chances. So if this does not bother you it is a good store with good prices but if you are health conscious then I would not take my chance. read more
