Jackpot! The perfect place to cook up your own French dinner at a reasonable price. Sure, most of the stuff is frozen but so is the stuff being served at restaurants. Duck confit leg ($16.95 for one or $79 for a half dozen all vacuum sealed, from Canada), dozen escargots or six dozen? Check. Pates or sausages? Check. I came here for the butter yes yes yes. Echire unsalted or salted, isigny, and Rodolphe Le Meunier. Well stocked. There's also dry stock items, soup or broth in a jar I haven't seen anywhere else (including World Market), chocolates for the professional baker, jams, pasta, juice, mustards. Enough for your own little potluck winning dish. I only wish there was another location in the East Bay. And of course a whole bunch of wine which I'm sure is also being sold to restaurants across the entire Bay Area.

The Gourmet Corner is the place to go for French wine, mustard, croissants, brie, and pretty much every grocery item you could ever want but could only buy in France. But I really want to talk about their wine tasting program. They don't always have it. You need to follow them on social media to get the announcement that maybe next Saturday there will be a tasting but their wine person Jim is the most knowledgeable person I have ever met about French wines and that is saying some thing because I know I fair number of pretty good sommelier's. And he puts together some of the most thoughtful tastings I've had anywhere. I have learned so much about the various French wines from him, and his tastings and most of my friends would say I already knew more about French wine than most folks to start with. All this with the friendliest demeanor and a rich lifetime of stories to share. And so many wines you will only find here (in the US) the owner of Gourmet Corner is equally kind and authentic. You can not go wrong buying here.

This is like a hidden gem. It's a like a French Grocery store, with a private lot. They have a large wine collection, along with other items like cheese, pate, yogurt, foie gras, snacks and much more. I came for their soap! I am a huge fan of Le Petit Marseillais soap products. They have a good selection of their bar soap, hand wash, and body wash. I had to control myself from buying it all. Their La Fermiere yogurt was good too, i got the mango passion fruit flavor and it wasn't too sweet. I also bought some pate that was imported from France, the little jar was $25.00 but worth it! I love this place and hope they can hope one closer to SF.

I can't believe it took me this long to find them. I have been looking for French butter for some time, like legit French butter. I tried ordering online but the shipping fees were outrageous then finally I found this place. They have legit French food and snacks. I came here mostly for French butter but came walking out with a few more. I definitely will come back for more goodies.

By the amount they stock you'd think they specialize in imported wine. You can find all sorts of French exported specialty foods like fancy yogurts, high end mustards, and sausages. The wild-boar, rabbit, pheasant w/goji berries all caught my eye. Obviously they stock a bunch of duck products as well, from confit'd legs to terrines of foie gras ($90). (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/EhEND8McRBk8MrLICbfnlA?select=w7w5_QuQzgeQh56-0gBd-g#w7w5_QuQzgeQh56-0gBd-g) Inside it's sorta set up warehouse style and even though I didn't leave with anything (browsed while waiting for my Thaiger Thai). I could imagine the Francophile home chef droppin' some major coin. WHAT GOURMET CORNER NEEDS TO DO IS grill one of those exotic sausages, throw it in an artisan bun, and spread some of that fancy mustard and/or foie gras all over it. WOW! That'd be at least $120 on parts alone if I did it at home but one can wish for lunch service. * The upcoming foie gras ban is on 7/1/12. This is a good place to stock up! (Yes, you Cherylynn N.) So a couple worker told me about this place and I had to come by and see for myself. Although I've been here a few times already I am finally writing a review. First time I came in I noticed all the wines thy had and you bet I spent a decent amount of time looking at them. Besides the wine here is plenty of products imported from France. From snacks to fancy mushrooms and pate. I always come here to buy the butter. So rich and creamy and goes super well with a fresh loaf of Acme bread. This time I bought some cheese so I will have to put it up taste tomorrow. I haven't met the owner yet but the sales person is very helpful with my questions. If you like French goodies you got to definitely go and check this place out. Everything is fairly priced and many stuff to buy. Cheers!!!!

All other supermarkets, except for maybe Fresco in South Bay and Berkeley Bowl in East Bay, have a niche, and you're going to be inconvenienced if what you want to make is outside of that focus. This large market had a dedicated aisle to Latino products, one for Japanese, Central/Eastern European, Southeast Asian - mostly for Filipino and Indonesian products, an aisle EACH! Now, as you may know, Hashi has taken over the market following the retirement of the previous boss under Marina. Apparently the kids don't want to take over haiyaaaa. Not much has changed but necessary renovations are planned, though unfortunately, the European section was down to some canned drinks and Slavic sauerkraut during my recent visit. Other reviews have mentioned how cold it gets inside. During my visit, it was all right, about as same temperature as outside. They don't have a heating system, I guess. Now I understand that Hashi has a focus on Japanese products, but given the physical size and history of this market location, I do wish that its Japanese branding doesn't come at the expense of everything else, especially since there are major competition nearby and we don't need a rat race to the bottom.

Not too familiar with the area, we were unaware of the ownership change. Crabs at $7.99/lb. seem like a reasonable price, vegetables looked fresh. Meats and seafood are priced a little lower than other Asian markets. I was excited to find some sesame candy which reminded me of childhood snack, however there is no expiration date on the good looking box ($4.99). The food court area is being remodeled, we walked around it carefully. The crabs we steamed last night for dinner were pretty good. Today I tried the sesame candy and was very disappointed. As soon as I opened the nicely wrapped candy, the aroma of rancid sesame oil hit me and it tasted bitter.....basically the candy is inedible. I understand it may not be the fault of the market because this item was imported. The lack of expiration date should have given me a warning, my fault. Needless to say we will not be rushing back to shop here anytime soon, hopefully they do a better job on quality control going forward.

Their hot food section is just as impressive and made fresh daily. Whether it's chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki, salmon teriyaki, sushi bowls, nigiri, chicken karaage, or grilled salmon, everything hits the spot and tastes homemade. What really makes this place special is the family behind it. You'll almost always see Ken, Shu, Misako, or their mother Ryuko, and they make the whole experience feel welcoming and authentic. And if you're into whiskey or just a casual drinker, keep an eye out for their selection--they occasionally carry rare bottles like Yamazaki and Hakushu, which are getting harder to find these days. While Osaka offers a good selection of fresh produce, meats, and bento items, my recent experience was very disappointing. I selected a package of shabu-shabu beef that was missing a price label. When the staff attempted to assist, she brought back a different package with noticeably more fat and different marbling. Despite pointing out the difference, I was repeatedly told the two packages were the same. A manager was called, but instead of helping resolve the issue, he insisted I take the replacement package because they were unable to label the original item. He even looked at me like my feedback was completely crazy. When I told him "forget it", the manager simply said "okay" and walked away with a very dismissive attitude. What could have been a minor issue became a poor customer experience due to the lack of professionalism, empathy, and customer service. Unfortunately, this experience has changed my perception of Osaka, and I will be shopping elsewhere in the future and would recommend shoppers consider alternatives such as Nijiya Market, where I have consistently experienced more attentive and customer-focused service.
