Just had Smart Charge America install a NEMA 14-50 outlet in my garage for my Tesla car charger. I came across this business through Tesla's recommended installers page. First off, I love the quote request process, Smart Charge America has you take a handful of pictures of your electrical panels and placement to determine what chargers your system can handle, and give an accurate price for multiple installation options. I very much prefer this process over calling an electrician and needing to schedule a in-house consultation. With the online quote I was able to get my installation price before anyone gets close to my property. On installation day, Clay and Damir arrived exactly on-time and were very friendly. I told them that I had an appointment I had to leave for in 2 hours, and they told me they would do their best to finish all the work before then. Indeed, they were able to finish all the work within 2 hours, and still do a professional job. They load-checked the outlet and verified everything was working good, they even installed a couple of hooks to mount my Tesla mobile connector and wrap the cable around. Speaking of the Tesla connector, my quote even included a new NEMA 14-50 adapter for my Tesla connector, that was very convenient since that adapter is always sold out on the Tesla website. Read good reviews and requested a quote from Smart Charge America to install a Tesla Charging station. Got the quote, with the promise in the email - "If you find a better price out there for your installation we'll beat it...Guaranteed!". I also got a quote directly from Tesla, which came in $200 less that Smart Charge. I emailed them back and told them I would like to use them if I could, based on their reviews, but wanted to confirm that they could match our beat that quote. That was 2 weeks ago. I've heard nothing from them. Not - yes we can, not - no we can't, not - go pound sand. Just silence. Well, message received. You don't care about my business, and you don't want my business. Thanks for wasting my time. UPDATE - I've increased my rating to 3 stars. Shortly after posting this review, I was contacted by Smart Charge America to apologize for my experience. The gentleman I spoke to was very sorry for the experience, and asked if he could still earn my business. I have another company scheduled to come install the charger tomorrow, so I had to decline his offer. I do however, truly appreciate the effort made on his part to reach out to me and try to correct the issue. It took a very negative experience and turned it into something more positive. I don't know if I will have the occasion to use Smart Charge America again in the future, but I will at least have them as part of my consideration set if that need does arise. read more

I usually a lax guy, but I really did not have the best experience with Smart Charge America. The quote and installation went very well and the guy that installed was great. However, I began to have issues with the charger and requested them to take a look to see the issue. They came and said everything looked fine and tighten it a bit. It worked fine after he did. So I thought maybe it was just a random thing. But then the day after, I had the issue again. I requested to have it looked at again because the issue was not fixed. This is where things got a little weird. The lady didn't seem that concern with customer service. She claimed that because I had called twice that they're going to have start charging me. That's not what warranty is. And the issue was never resolved. They shouldn't be a reason to charge. They had advised to take it to Tesla but it seems they were pointing fingers at each other without addressing the problem. Tesla does have tech that points where there is heating issue. Smart charge came and replace it which I appreciated it.....the issue still came back on and off and until almost 3 years later, it was constant. Now I was still under warranty. Things got a little more shady. When I requested to check the outlet, they said my warranty expired since 2 years ago. I had to show that I had a 3 year warranty. They said they would honor it but it's strange to me that they would charge for a "truck roll fee" plus if they didn't find anything in their part they would charge the hour rate plus materials. That's not warranty. It seems to me they are finding any reason to not value the warranty. I had another electrician came to my place at no cost. The issue was.....the screws weren't tight enough and that it is recommended that I used no more than 80% of current capacity continuously (which I wish smart charge would disclose if they had this knowledge) and also if I don't plug and unplug often (which I don't). He trimmed the wires a little and had a torque screwdriver that he tightened to the specified torque recommendation and that fixed the problem. He solved the problem while smart charge didn't seem to know how to approach the problem. The strangest thing to me was I had asked a technical question about the amount of current over time (as it heats up) it needs to trigger an error and how that relates to a voltage and their answer....ignored. So I do question their technical ability. If you don't know then say you don't know what else you can do and that you're stuck as well. Don't beat around the bush, start charging left and right when the work wasn't even done properly. But now I know. Anyone who has this issue, verify your wires are tightened enough (this can cause high temps errors, torque screwdriver is recommended). I'd have a qualified electrician who knows what he's doing cuz this stuff can get dangerous and damaging especially at high voltages like that. Either way I still appreciate smart charge America for doing what they can. I'd advise work on customer service and technical ability. All this could have been avoided if only the screws were tighten correctly. It would save them money as well. Quality work should be important for the customer and business mutually. read more

I love my Mode Y. I have wanted a Tesla since 2014 and finally bought a 2021 Model Y LR end of 2020. When I placed my MY order online with Tesla, I researched their site to find a recommended electrician who is certified to work on Tesla equipment, Smart Charge America and a few other companies popped up. We hired Smart Charge because they were the most knowledgeable, they increased the warranty on the charger, and warrantied their Installation. The installation was smooth. Their electricians we're on time, professional, and did not leave until my charger was working perfectly. One of their managers pulled up in a Model Y just like the one I purchased which instantly made me feel comfortable, and he project managed the install and used his car to make sure the charger was charging efficiently! If I could give them a negative score I would. Worse Smart Charger Company ever. Do not use them, I am strongly advising not to use this company to install your Tesla Home Charger in Queen Creek. They installed an old charger, which I pointed out to the tech when he installed it, and the charger is inoperable verified by Tesla. Their paperwork states ZERO downtime, no paperwork, no hassle as they will provide you with a charger as stated their paperwork. I have not received a replacement charger for a week now and it is impossible to get a straight answer from emails or text messages as to when this issue will resolved. I keep getting passed around or told someone will contact me about resolving my issue and to this day it has not. I asked for a manager/supervisor and was told their is not one available. I have sent email after email with still no resolution. For you own sake, I urge you to look elsewhere to have your Tesla Charger installed. No Manager available, they are to busy for me the customer after they have already received my money. Companies like this should not be in business as they simply do not care about written contracts, warranties or people. All they want is your money and to move to the next customer (victim)! Searched around for someone to install a Tesla Wall Connector and received 4 quotes. Smart Charge America was not the cheapest, but I was extremely satisfied with their quote system as well as how simple their installation plan was. I Initially worked with Scott who was extremely helpful and made sure I was comfortable with the plan. Other companies seemed like they were making things more complicated; cut a wall in the house, run conduit from the side to the garage, etc. Smart Charge America's plan was very simple. I cannot say enough positive things about the quality and professionalism of the installation done by Smart Charge Residential. Don't think about going with anyone else, especially with a ordinary electrician who doesn't do a ton of EV charger installations. Without a doubt you don't want to go with anyone else. Smart Charge Residential does 2+ charger installations a day and that experience matters. This was my first installation with this company, and my second EV installation overall. I made the mistake of having my first EV charger installed by a commercial Master Electrician, which at the time seemed fine. Overtime I began to have increasing noticeable heat on the charging cable, sometimes too hot to touch. We just got our second EV and I wanted to have a dual chargers so that we wouldn't be forever be connecting and disconnecting respective cars. My installation was not straight forward as they had to evaluate the prior work done, and they come up with a plan for how to do the installation within the existing framework. Ultimately the plan was to daisy chain both chargers so that they would not have to do the more expensive solution of having to upgrade the entire house's service, and that they chargers would be able to give 100% to either car or split it between the two as needed. I was really impressed with the amount of time and discussion that went on, as they evaluated what I had and patiently came up with a plan how best to accomplish the installation. They were in no hurry to get in and get out and get on to the next appointment. It was obvious they took their work very seriously and wanted to do it right. On inspection of my prior installation the installers found that my initial prior install done by the Master Electrician was sub-par, and even dangerous. My initial wire was underrated (too small) for the load that was run, it wasn't matched to the correct size breaker, the wire was not properly secured, it was not adequately grounded, and multiple other things that are not relevant to this review. Long and short was that Smart Charge Residential scrapped all the original sub-par work, and did a fresh installation. They even stood by their original quote that they had given, which did had not included redoing prior bad work, just extending what I already had. Well the result was a clean tidy professional install. They cleaned up after themselves, they went to the trouble to do a more challenging installation which resulted in something that looked better and was more functional for us on a daily basis, putting the charger in a harder for them to get at place nearer the port on the car to be easier for us on a daily basis. I can't tell you how pleased I am in how seriously these people take what they are doing, they are thoughtful, patient, meticulous and stand by their word. Now when I charge my cable is completely cool. What a difference, it is worth the piece of mind that it was done correctly. read more

First of all, I will give Smart Charge credit for quick action...in the beginning. After having me send in photos to provide a series of quotes, the work started quickly. Unfortunately, it also quickly ran into problems. First of all, the original quote 'forgot' to include the proper permits to do electrical work on our home. Once reminded, our quote went up a couple of hundred dollars. The installation of the charger was quick but then we encountered issues with passing the inspection to get the permit finalized. Smart Charge wasn't familiar with the inspection process in our area and thought they could just 're-educate' the inspector to get the inspection to pass although the inspector was adamant that our electrical panel was insufficient to run the charger as it was installed. We ended up bringing in a second electrician who was able to upgrade our electrical box and worked to get BOTH our permits signed off. I'm glad the process is finally complete and came in under 3 months if not under budget. read more

Tesla recommended ElectricMan and CESG for my Tesla charger install. I had both companies come out and provide a quote. One quoted $5,000, then other quoted $6,000, which I believed was outrageous. It turns out both companies tried to sell me additional hardware and wanted to replace and/or upgrade existing electrical hardware. They both gave me different stories about what needed to be done as well. So I ended up researching on the Tesla Forums and found that someone else had recommended Smart Charge Residential, Inc. (www.smartchargeresidential.com). From their website I was able to request a free survey and shortly after I was contacted by the company's Founder & CEO, Joseph Barletta. Joseph was extremely friendly and helpful and we scheduled a time for one of their electricians to come out. When the electrician got there he was extremely knowledgable and didn't try to sell me more than I needed. The initial quote was $2,850 and it included the trenching to run the wires underground to my detached garage, which the other companies did not include. For the job, Joseph ended up coming out with two others and spent the majority of the day digging the trench and running the wire. The actual Tesla charger installation took another couple of hours. I could not have been more satisfied with the job and highly recommend Joseph and his company, Smart Charge Residential. If needed, I'm also happy to serve as a reference for these guys. read more

The installation was good, but getting it coordinated was way more work then it should have been. It took five weeks of multiple unreturned emails, missed appointments (i.e. they said, oh we'll come out and give you an estimate Friday at 10:30, so I arrange my day to be there and then nobody shows up) , and it took many emails and phone calls before it actually got done. So while the work was done well, and I am happy with the charger, I think that communication and people who coordinate the installation need to step it up to make this a more pleasant experience. read more

Very thorough installation. I got several bids that were almost 3 times the cost over Smart Charge. The Smart Charge installation has been in place for a month and no issues. The installer Robert was really good and had to navigate tight corners in our attic for wiring. Really pleased with the quality and great to have power to charge our two Teslas. After about 15 months of working perfectly, the charger started acting wonky, which is now a technical term when referring to EVs.
