My solar system was installed 4 years ago for $40,000. My solar system quit working two years ago. I'm still making payments on the loan and now also a PUD electric payment. I have been waiting for a new inverter for the last two years which I was told. I have to pay an installer to put a new one in. They failed inspection 3 times due to the fact they did not do what the inspector had written down to do. Put holes in the side of our house when they did not need to. Now we received a certified letter from the Black Diamond Roofing that Lumio has not paid them for fixing their problem and they may have to put a lien on our house if not paid by Feb. 29,2024. Correction was unsatisfactory and eventually we hired someone to remove ALL attic insulation and reinsulate. When solar tube skylites are installed onto a roof -- Care should be taken that they will not leak. Individual " young adults - kids " were enthusiatic but DEFINITELY LACKED THE EXPERIENCE TO do the work correctly... that the company contracted to perform. We had a SET solar system installed on our house in 2018, and up until recently SET has done an excellent job. However, our system stopped producing in July, and SET has not responded to numeous phone calls and e-mails. Other recent reviews indicate SET is not answering their phone. This company is top-notch! Our install and start-up had a few minor problems (and a couple major ones!) but to me, the true mettle of a company is how they handle those issues. Smart Energy was responsive, caring, and knowledgeable. Our project manager, Lex, responded to phone calls the same day, often within an hour. We had a team of people to answer all our questions, from technical to financial. They filed for all permits, including our Homeowners Association Architectural Committee, and helped us procure financing with a payment we could afford. The panels are attractive and they even service them for free! We could not be happier; and now that we are up and running, we can't wait for more sunny days! Smart Energy Today/Lumio has a terrible customer service! We have been working with them to resolve their post install roof leaks since last May. Their sub contractors came to remove the solar panels and attempted to fix the leaking roof last Oct. But after that, we can't get hold of Smart Energy Today/Lumio anymore. No one has come back to certify if the leaking roof has been fixed and also to reinstall the solar panels yet. This year, we got a letter from their sub contractors, which says since Smart Energy Today/Lumio hasn't paid them for the repair work, they are going to put a lien on our property. We have attempted to reach Smart Energy Today/Lumio multiple times over the last month with no response regarding the incomplete repairs and their sub contractor's lien notice. read more

Trust has been broken by nearly everyone I have talked to at Smart Energy Today/Lumio. It has been over EIGHT months now since my first signing with your sales representative, Josh Miller. Summer has come and gone, and we STILL have no working solar panels with zero communication from anyone in your organization on when this will be completed. The absolute TERRIBLE experience we've had was as follows: 4/14: Spoke with Josh Miller. We were told if we signed that night, we would be given 3 months worth of payments. Signed that night. 4/15: Welcome email received from Smart Energy Today with timeline saying target 6-8 weeks from finance approval with picture showing maximum timeline of 12 weeks, which would have been 7/15. 5/10: Got an email requesting for documentation with my name on the property. House is under my husband's name, so we needed to add his name to the loan. 5/24: Signed new documents with my husband's name on it. New maximum timeline should have been 8/24. 6/22: Solar panel was installed roughly around this time. After the install, I got a physical copy of a timeline showing a timeline maximum of 84 days plus one step that had a variable date range. New maximum timeline should have been roughly 9/22 without knowing what the variable timeline is. This was the final update to the timeline I got, so as far as we are concerned, this should have been the target date. 6/23: Inspection was supposed to happen in the morning. Waited until 1 in the afternoon with no one showing up and no word on when the inspector would be coming, we needed to reschedule due to work. I was told someone would call me back to reschedule, but no one ever did. I had to reach back out to Josh for help to get the inspection rescheduled. 7/2: Got letter from Service Finance Company that our first payment is due 7/28. We asked Josh about this since only the solar panels were installed, but our main panel which needed to be replaced due to age was not installed yet and was rolled into the loan. Josh acknowledged that this seemed odd and would look into it. 7/21: We got our first bill from Service Finance Company. Sent to Josh again, he said he'd look into it.8/16: Main panel replacement occurred. On the same day, we got a call from Service Finance Company that we are 19 days overdue and will be going into collections soon. Reached out to Josh again about this, and Josh promised he'd pay for the late fee. 8/18: Finally got a gift card from Lumio with the first three months of payments that Josh promised us. Since we had to resign the loan for a new amount since the main panel was rolled into the loan, the gift card was for 3 months based on the old amount, not the new amount, and it did not include the late fee that Josh promised. Was told I would get an additional gift card for the remainder by a representative who called me to confirm I got the gift card. 8/19: Got a survey from Lumio about the solar panel install. I took the survey and fully explained the horrible experience I had up until that point. The survey asked if I would like someone to contact me, and I said yes. To this day, no one has contacted me. 9/2: City of Seattle came to inspect expecting a Lumio representative to be present, but there was no Lumio representative. Josh said that no Lumio representative should be onsite. Via email, Jennifer said a Lumio representative should have been onsite. I told Jennifer Josh said this wasn't necessary, and Jennifer said there should have been. Rescheduled inspection. 9/13: Got a text from Jennifer saying I needed to schedule an inspection again, which made me think the previous inspection scheduled on 9/2 did not occur (error on her part). 9/17: Texted Josh asking for a follow up on the gift card. Zero acknowledgement. 10/12: Texted Josh again about the gift card. Josh texted me an email screenshot Alexa Gamble sent to Rachel, AJ, Catherine, and 7 other people for follow up. 10/20: Text from Ivie to schedule final electrical inspection for 10/27. I texted back requesting for 10/28, but didn't hear anything back from her. 10/28: No one shows up. 10/31: Text from Ivie saying that the technician had an emergency and her text to me never went through, now the final electrical inspection is scheduled for 11/10. 11/4: Texted Josh about the gift card. Zero response. 11/10: Lumio inspection with Seattle City Light. Was told additional work needed to be done. It has been two weeks, and I have heard nothing back from anyone about when that would be scheduled or take place. This only includes the correspondence I've had in writing with your organization. This does not include the countless phone calls I have made to follow up with your inability to provide clear communication and follow through. In writing this and reliving the experience I had with your company, I am completely astounded by your organization's inability to follow up your customers. read more

We thought it was just another "hey, come get a free meal so we can sell you something." But instead, it was highly informational and we made an appointment that night to get more information. We ended up signing and then ... Covid 19. So unfortunately we had to wait much longer than we would've had to but through no fault, obviously, of SET. When they were finally able to install, they were fast, efficient and respectful. Now to just get our first electric bill to see our savings! If there is anything they could work on, it is better communication by the project manager. But overall, I would recommend Smart Energy Today from start to finish. read more

On 6/27/22 my husband signed a contract with Lumio (aka Smart Energy Today) for them to install solar panels at our house. They represented in the contract that the panels would be up and running within 1-3 weeks. It has now been three months and the panels are still not activated. A crew of electricians came to my house a week ago purportedly to activate the panels, but they left without doing so. To make matters worse, these electricians screwed up my electricity and part of my house (including my fridge) has been without power for a week now. I wanted to add an addendum to my previous review of Smart energy today. The state of California requires the solar installer to file the paperwork for you to get the rebate on your battery backup. First SET refused to file the paperwork. Finally they did it as a quote unquote favor. But they did it improperly. Now the state wants them to refile it and they refuse. Also I should note that they had to replace the inverter because there was too much load on it. Too many amps. David actually had the audacity to blame me for putting too many amps on the inverter. I never claim to be an electrician. That's why I hired an electrician. That is their job to figure out how many amps can go onto an inverter. Heed my advice. Pay the extra money and go with one of the more well-established big guys. read more

I have left messages and no one has returned my call. I have sent an email to support@smartenergy.net without any response either. How can a company that has a 25 year warranty on their product not support customers who have spent $8000 on their products?? At their dinner, they asked for three names of your friends so they can enter you into a raffle for a gift card. We won the gift card and we've asked about it four times and we were completely ignored. They said they would come out to drop it off and nothing. Integrity doesn't go far with this company. Please consider the lack of support if you're going with this company! Please DO NOT give them the names of your friends either because they don't keep their word. It's the principle behind it. If they can't keep their word on small things, then they WILL NOT on important and bigger issues. We had this company install solar two years ago. We have a 1549 sq ft single story condo. We're told 18 panels would be more than enough. Wrong. We get true up bills for just under $1800.00 annually plus additional bills from SCE. Customer service is horrible. We were supposed to get an app to monitor or solar usage and generation. Never happened. I've call numerous times since the beginning but never get results. All I can say is BEWARE. read more

We have the fans and solar blanket in the attic an noticed the next day that our coldest room was like the temp of most of the rest of the house. We are waiting for the permits from the city. You have to understand that most people likely had great reps but some people didn't have great reps (and those reps likely aren't doing as well). That doesn't meant the company is less than. Check out their BBB rating. They have an A+ since 2012 and every compliant (a whopping 13 out of thousands of orders) has been resolved. THAT is noteworthy. read more

Terrible company. undersold panels based on use along with no clarity on type of panels so they installed older model. After doing the work myself, researching with utility company, We are now stuck with panels not producing more than 10-30% and paying both energy and loan. I have tried to get them to help for almost a year now and they don't even call back. I am currently in process of filing a complaint with the BBB and Attorney General and plan to hire an attorney. our utilities are approx $200/month and payments for loan from solar on top is enough to stress anyone. Go with Capstone! the neighbors did and they are producing perfectly. FYI - The "tax credit" isn't worth a lot with all the tax hikes but it does help. read more

We went to the free dinner in Gig Harbor, Washington that was held at the The Inn Gig Harbor. I was excited to learn about solar energy and also try the food from The Inn, as I'd never eaten there before. I ordered the salmon and it was dry and paired with an Orzo that looked like it should be served at an old folks home. There was a starter salad of only greens, carrot and tomato, and a focaccia roll with butter. There was no dessert. Upon arrival, there was terriable religious music playing from a phone, and we were all seated classroom style, facing a display that was comprised of fans and insulation, and some banners. Our hoast/sales rep was interesting. He had the ability to he kind and condescending at the same time. "You ARE homeowners, right?" He memorized our names and used them often. He talked about their solar roofing panels but didn't have one among the massive display they had brought. He didn't give a spiel about solar roofing panels nor a demo. That part was mostly a Q&A and he had all the right answers. "Why wouldn't you do it; 70% will be paid by local and federal initiatives." "Do it now, the tax exemption expires October 1, 2017." This was his big push for everyone to act fast. "You'll save 3-5 thousand dollars on tax alone." Then he started to present about his little silver blanket. "Insulation only lasts 7 years, but this stuff here, I wish I had invented it. It's in space suits, NFL jackets, REI coats, yadda yadda yadda..." Then we took a break to listen to the religious music and eat our dinner, then he came around table to table to schedule the in home quotes. My partner had stepped out to use the restroom so we had not discussed the visit time when he came to us. He gave us a few minutes alone, and we discussed it, while also trying to eat, as dinner wasn't served until 7:30pm. By the time he returned we still hadn't made up our mind or agreed upon a time. He got upset and said "Even the consult wouldn't take that much time, forget it." He was so rude, but left us to our discussion. I spent my time googling incentives and trying to access the costs. He had thrown out a lot of prices ranging from 20k-50k, but only conversationally, not in reference to any particular plan or home size. It seemed high and in my websearch I can across the state website that listed the tax exemption; it didn't expire for another year! After dinner he talked more about his insulation blanket and gave a demonstration on it with some heat lamps and thermometers. I was ready to schedule our in home visit so we waited after he dismissed the room to ask our questions and schedule. He ignored us and began to read his text messages. Once we got his attention I asked about roofing quotes, he was dismissive. I asked about the tax incentive discrepancy. He rose his voice and I was so embarrassed when he loudly growled "So I just got up here and lied to everone?" That sealed the deal for us, this guy wasn't welcome in our home! Glad we didn't schedule, in hindsight they weren't there to sell solar roof panels, it was all about the little silver solar blanket and their attic fans. It didn't feel like we were his target audience anyway, as we are young and informed homeowners. He seemed more interested in the older people in the room. read more

This company doesn't seem to be legitimate. They'll give you a free dinner presentation. Then they'll go to your house and give you a deal, but the catch is that everything has to be done very soon. They install things really soon before you have a chance to back out because the cancellation date will be the day before you install. Originally, we were interested in solar panels, not insulation. And it's not really a deal. It's overpriced insulation. We haven't noticed any difference in bills or comfort. We could have done just as well and saved more money by adding more regular insulation. Again, look at all of the people at their dinners. They're mostly old people. If you've got friends or family who are considering this, try to talk them out of it. Or at least tell them that they should get other opinions and bids from reputable companies. read more

We had Smart Energy Today design and install solar system in February 2021, after 3 months of delays. They did not disclose add costs and inconvenience. Richland utilities set up separate accounts requiring us to log in to each to pay monthly bill, plus because we can supply power to the grid, the rate increased by 50% for 3-phase power cycle. Add this to the fact that our system has yet to produce more electricity than we use in a month despite my insistence that we add 2 more panels than they called for. Our electric bills are about the same as they were before, but now i have a solar bill too. Definitely would not recommend or do this again. read more

The sales person was a very pompous jerk that said some mildly inappropriate things that would have been ripped a new one had he not gotten a very mellow person. The quote was a joke. My 25 year savings was literally a negative number. Sales rep said I should only get panels made the USA or Germany then tried to sell Canadian made panels The array size he offered was half the size anyone else gave me and at a higher cost than the larger arrays. I also asked for micro inverters to be calculated only to have a single inverter added. Either I got the worst rep in the company or they are a terrible group to hire. read more

The overall experience was good. There were times where the communication was great, but then would drop off (mostly when permits were being submitted and the waiting game with the electric company's approval). But with all that being said, that's normal with a project with a lot of moving parts and people. Our project manager, Jake, was extremely responsive to everything and did his best to make sure everything went smoothly. Even after the installation was complete he monitored our panels and immediately notified us when one panel was not creating energy. Jake had someone out to fix it relatively fast. read more

The dinner was an informative and well paced presentation. The video presentations were too quiet. David memorized the names of all of the approximately 20 people in the room. A nice trick. It shows some preparation. People at the presentation are made to feel that a follow up visit to the home is mandatory. The first visit to our home was designed for David to understand our specific interest and needs. The follow up felt more like a pressure sale. We were given a specific figure for the cost of the project without a detailed breakdown. We were pressured with the information that there is a tax advantage to completing the deal before the end of the year. He implied that the 30% tax credit would end at the end of the year. He never mentioned that the deal actually continues in 2020 at 26%. He also mentioned that there were solar panels that they would install at the "pre-tariff" price. He stated that the supply was limited so if we did not commit soon we would not be able to get that price. He several times stated that the quality of workmanship was superior without offering any references other than a magazine article. We were not given any time to consult with other vendors or contractors. We were given claims for how long the equipment would be viable without any supporting data. We ended up not signing a contract because we were not comfortable with making a large financial commitment without more solid information and specifics. read more

This is a scam. They lure you in with a free dinner and then work a bait and switch. I was willing to allow them to insulate my attic space. They were out to the house and said the work could be done. Then after taking a second day off, they said they could not do the work.
