I have been going to the cottonwood Az location for a year and today I had an appointment with stylist Karen at 1 pm. When I got there the salon was filled with people. Karen said she was sorry but I would have to wait because there wasn't a working sink to wash my hair. The other stylist was working on a client's eyebrows. Why is there only one working sink? And why couldn't the other stylist do his eyebrows over the other sink? She was doing the wax for more than 20 minutes. Because of that I chose to cancel my appointment. My time is as valuable as the next client. I feel that the sink by now should have been repaired since this has been an ongoing problem. Karen was very gracious in apologizing and I will continue to go to her but I feel your company needs to look into this. read more

The manager was absolutely awful to me. I asked for a refund because what they sprayed on my hair is itchy and my hair is a sticky mess. I asked for my money back and the manager hung up on me and was a total jerk. I've never been treated that way and I want everyone to know about it. read more

I started going to this salon because my niece went there. I started seeing Hannah who did a great job. I always make appointments before going in. The first time I went it only took five or ten minutes before they called me back. The second visit I had an appointment and it took 30 minutes and I still wasn't seen because the stylist (yes, Hannah) was leisurely doing someone's hair without a care in the world and wasn't even halfway finished. I had to leave. I spoke with my sister who said the same thing happened to her only she waited 45 minutes before she walked out and she had an appointment. Another family member said the same thing happened to her with an appointment she had. Apparently they take walk ins ahead of appointments. Not very fair and not very professional. I emailed about the experience and sort of got excuses from the manager, and as far as I'm concerned excuses that you're short-staffed are futile to a customer. You screwed up you need to own up to it and make things right. Anyway, out of desperation because I needed a haircut really bad, I decided to give a second chance so, I called the next day and scheduled another appointment. I went in and it was absolutely desolate in there but my stylist that I had used before was not available. This time the stylist that did my hair was named Karen. After returning home and trying to work with my hair, I'm very upset/ very unhappy because I told her and told her and told her where to NOT cut it too short. I'm very protective of certain areas of my hair because I do have cowlicks and because it's pretty common for people to get it too short in those areas so I watch like a hawk. Once someone tries to start cutting there and you tell them, usually they've already took a chunk out of it. I told her where I had swoopy problems and I told her that I needed that thinned. She seemed to be chopping in the wrong area a few times and I told her "remember I told you I have a cowlick there please don't cut any length off?" and she chopped the crap out of it. I couldn't really tell much until I got home and messed with it. I will never EVER go back to this Salon again EVER. And, like a fool, I tipped her well. My hair (that she sprayed so it was wet and I couldn't tell) is sticking straight up now and it's going to take a long time before it's long enough to need a cut again anyway. By the way, when I say "swoopy" I mean I look like Robbie freaking Douglas on "My Three Sons". I know nobody's going to know who that is unless they're my age, but still.... read more

I came from San Diego to see my daughter for Mother's Day. She had been telling me about her incredible hairdresser named Hannah for months. I have been wanting to change my hairstyle for the last 10 years but I've been chicken as I've had a few bad encounters. We went to see Hannah and she was able to fit me in. I am extremely happy with my hair. It's modern but professional. Hannah was amazing. She asked me questions about myself and what I wanted and explained everything she was doing...I come to visit my daughter every couple of months and she is my new hairdresser. I've reading the reviews on Smart Style in Cottonwood - I want to say that I have never had any problems with the salon or the way I've been treated there. Yes sometime you have to wait - but then you have wait a lot in life - if the the stylist you want to see is working on someone but you think they're taking too long and not rushing to get to you ask yourself 'would you want them to rush through you visit just so they could get to the next one.
