    Father and son training
    Mark R.

First of all, I'm not to be confused with the Mark S. that reviewed this on 9/8/2009, just thought I'd point that out. I literally just started training here near the end of March which is when they just started up the 7:30pm Tues and Thurs Muay Thai classes, and I have never felt better! Coming into the gym on my first night I got to talk to Chris and he was able to give me the lowdown on prices, which sounded very reasonable to me ($90/month with 1 year contract) he even offered me 2 free trial days to try out the classes. When I came in the following Thursday night I got to meet Evan who was very friendly even though I know this guys Pro MMA record is like 3-2-0 (1 NC) he was very approachable and very quick to answer any questions I had about the gym, technique, equipment, or even borrowing a book from his library, and the workout is definitely no joke, I haven't sweated like I did since... since never?! You just definitely have to try it out yourself, I think I overheard one of the members say they "felt like throwing up" after last mondays class and I agree I almost felt the same (luckily I didn't eat anything heavy lol). Also one big plus, I am a father to a 3 year old (4 years by this July) and Evan told me I can have my son hang around the gym while I trained, which was very cool and helpful when I don't have anyone that can watch him, he even let me use the focus mitts so that I can do some combos with my son (which he's getting better at after every visit to the gym) although he isn't old enough yet I will definitely be enrolling my son to the Kids Muay Thai (5-9 yr olds) as soon as he turns 5. Everything else has been covered by the other reviewers so I don't even need to get into that, my best advice is that you come in for your free trial class, and give this place a shot if you're looking to get back into shape or even get competitive (I might even start to fight competitively once I drop a few weight classes), and one thing I'd like to mention I used to be in a competitive Tae Kwon Do sparring team 2 years ago and comparing it to Muay Thai training would be an understatement.. True Fight Club's Muay Thai/Boxing Training is INTENSE and will work you!

Do they rent out their gym?

Does anyone know the best way to reach them? I tried emailing, calling, and submitting a form online and have gotten no response.

Hi Jear K. I'm a member at this gym and Evan and Brian responds fairly quickly. I'm shocked to know that you couldn't get a hold of them. Text me your number at 408 888 2130 and i'll have Evan or Brian give you a call.…

I have multiple injuries and body issues that make it hard to work out. I was always injuring myself the moment I tried to do weight training on my own. With Awesta I give him feedback on when something is challenging or exacerbating an issue--I'm learning good form to avoid injuries. He is always responsive and finds modifications so I can stay engaged the entire work out. I also find it more affordable than I expected. I don't do the group classes though they look great, it's a bit too advanced for me given my limitations. Being in there a few times a week, I watch the entire staff cultivate a warm, welcoming environment where you/they say hi to everyone who walks into the space. It's also very diverse. I'm talking both staff and members, culturally, age-wise, body types, genders--no one ever makes you feel you don't belong there.

I'm originally from San Diego and there are plenty of gyms around my area. However, my sister did mentioned she lived in an older more suburban neighborhood. Unfortunately, I wanted more of a challenging HIIT class that you can find at Barrys or F45 (both of which are an hour away from here). With that being said, they do have TRX bands and assault bikes as well as a variety of weights. They also offer beverages between $1-$5. They were also nice to let you use the assault bikes before and after class. I was expecting more of an energetic and motivated crowd but it was more of a mellow crew of retirees and a preteen boy. It was definitely not what I expected in a bootcamp/HIIT class. Nevertheless, it was a great class albeit I felt like the only gym rat there. Earlier in the class, there was some confusion (partially because the trainer was also teaching people online) but he was able to modify some of the routine so most of us understood what to do. I never expected wanting to do more after a workout but this is a great class if you want to be challenged but not physically exhausted. I also recommend a voice amplifier and more prompts (i.e lift your arms above your head, etc) for the trainer as there was some confusion (maybe due to the music, his low tone or lack of prompts). Will visit again if I'm in the area as it's relatively close to where my family lives. Parking: Plaza Parking Recommendation: They have a first timer special - 3 classes for $50 that includes personal training but I would check online or in person to make sure that it's accurate. They also offer open gym to those with classpass!

I was hesitant to start my own personal training based on the cost and because I felt like I didn't need it, but it's totally worth it! I feel mentally and physically stronger! I look forward to coming, but then dread it for the hour just because some are the workouts are so hard/tiring. It pays off in the end though! She's so supportive, a great listener, super energetic, and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend her

It's definitely dirtier than my local City Sports in Sacramento. The worst part about this club for me is that the free weights were a complete mess. The dumb bells appear to be in random order and plates seem to be haphazardly put back as well. I got here at 5am when they open and there was an old plastic water bottle on the floor. Seems like no one is taking care of this gym. Not specific to this location, but City Sports Club needs to open earlier on the weekend. 8am is ridiculously late. Would love to see 6am or earlier Saturday and Sunday like almost every other gym does. With all of that said, this gym does have a good variety of equipment and I appreciate that City Sports has locations all over Northern California I can access.
