A burger so good I had to dust off my Yelp account. I happened to go by the Chamber of Commerce and spoke to someone there as I passed through and she recommended the family-owned Smash and Grab. I wasn't hungry yet, but they were going to close so I made sure to get a to-go order in: Smash burger with American. My expectations weren't high, but I was completely blown away. An absolute ELITE smash burger. It's the most notable one that I can remember having. Killer bun (a must), huge patty, properly seasoned with great char. Shredded lettuce and tomato provided the perfect contrast. I didn't eat many places in Ely, but if someone I knew went through Ely and didn't try this burger, I would give them hell! We stopped here on our road trip and picked this restaurant based on the 4.9 stars great Yelp reviews. But let me tell you, it's a very creepy town. You feel like you're in an Area 51 alien occupation town. The place is located inside the Jailhouse Casino which we didn't know so we kept walking trying to find it. There was a homeless lady outside the place screaming how the police in this town are corrupt and did all these horrible things to her family. So I have to deduct one star because of the location. But the food and service itself is 5 stars! The burger was excellent and my husband liked his Philly cheese steak. It's just not a family friendly restaurant being located inside a casino. read more

We are staying at the KOA in town in our motorhome and came here for breakfast after reading the reviews. Breakfast was outstanding. We have traveled over 30 states in the last 3 years and enjoy going out to breakfast occasionally in the small towns we visit. I have found it rare to have my eggs cooked exactly how I like them. Over medium or poached medium seems to be too difficult a task and they come out either runny whites or well done. It's a crapshoot. My medium poached eggs and generous and crispy hash browns were just the way I like them. Bravo to Michelle and Britney who are doing a stellar job! My husband had the Cakes and eggs with bacon and same thing...it was perfect. We enjoyed it so much we went back for dinner after a day of ghost town sightseeing! I had the spicy smashburger and he had the patty melt and our only complaint was we should have shared! We eat less as we are getting older and with the delicious crispy thin fries we had to force ourselves to finish it. We had breakfast a second time before leaving town and once again, the food was excellent. From the perfectly fresh ingredients in the mushroom and Swiss omelet with crispy hash browns to the simple and sweet cream pancakes, we were highly satisfied. The girls were a little shorthanded this morning, but a little patience is easy when you know what to expect. It's inside the jailhouse casino. Don't miss it! I've been to Ely many times on business and usually I eat Subway or at Hometown Pizza, but tonight, I had a craving for a real good burger. (No fast food, thank you!) Found out about this place on Yelp and based on the reviews, I gave it a shot. So glad I did!! Yes, it's a little hard to find, as it's buried in the Jailhouse casino. I sat myself at the counter and right away was given a menu and they took my drink order. I ordered the original Smash with cheese. First off, the patty was BIGGER than the bun; excellent start! After that it just got better! Excellent flavor, juicy, and the fries, which appeared to be overdone, were in fact delicious. I equate the burger to Smash Brothers, which is a compliment.. Overall, a fantastic experience, and as some have said, it is in the casino so you will smell cigarette smoke. But as an ex-smoker myself, that doesn't bother me. Stopped in for their burger, and also ordered wings, chicken strips, fries and deep fried Oreos. It was hard to find inside the casino (no signs outside). Staff was friendly and kind. We were staying in Ely for a week for a hunt. We had an airbnb but sometimes you just want to go out to eat. First breakfast we had was at Smash N Grab. I got the Spicy breakfast burger sub bacon and it was AMAZING! My BF tasted it and loved it too. He ordered the Country fried steak and thought it was pretty good. Coming from out of town and staying at one of the hotels, my mom and I wanted to try something different. After getting in later than we expected, we didn't necessarily feel like driving to get food somewhere, and luckily, we didn't have to! This location offered delivery, and when I called to ask if this was legit, the woman on the other end was extremely helpful and did not find my question odd at all! Delivery was very fast, and we got our meal delivered to our room within 15-20 minutes of ordering. We ordered two elote bowls, a regular burger, side order of tater tots, and the fried cheesecake. The elote bowls were absolutely amazing and so filling! I wasn't too hungry when we got the food, but it was so good, I stuffed myself. The best part of the meal was the fried cheesecake.
