I have been here over a dozen times since my first review. I'm amazed at what a mess this place can be. The cashiers can have quite a sourpuss attitude, they sometimes make mistakes (like tonight), the floors and tables are often dirty, and the floor is often very slippery. The sandwiches are usually fine, but the haystack onion strings are often so salty that they are inedible. Will I still go here? Probably, and therefore, I'll leave it at three stars, even though it really deserves two. I'll continue to go because it's quick, easy, plenty of parking, and pretty quick. I went into the Town & Country location on Thursday and ordered the new Triple Double. It was so good that I came back to this location to order the same. The two burgers were night and day. T&C location came with no disclaimer, and a full burger, albeit with patties smaller than a normal smash burger. I know I ate here when they first opened. Wasn't memorable then. My son and I tried them today and it was really good! The Swiss mushroom truffle Turkey burger sounded good. I usually don't order burgers without the usual toppings but since we were trying something new today I tried it. And I'm really glad I did. The Turkey was juicy and flavorful and all together was really yummy! I'd definitely try it again. But I'd like to try a grilled chicken next time to see how it compares to the competition. We ordered the new reece's pieces & cookie dough milkshake they were advertising, and after they delivered it to our table, we both tried it and said it tasted off. When we told the cashiers about it, they apologized and made us an oreo one instead. It still tasted bad, but I didn't feel the need to get a refund. This is a hamburger spot that I really like, especially since I can create my own burger and that's just what I do each time I'm here. I'm really just a meat and cheese hamburger person but I love spicy. I ordered a regular burger with the spicy chipotle bun, mayo, ketchup, pickles and pepper jack cheese. strait down to business. I don't care for lettuce and tomato on my burgers because I don't like to mix the hot with the cold. Just a personal preference. The burger is always cooked to perfection, very juicy and tender. The bun is always fresh and I love the spicy combination of pepper jack cheese with it! I always ordered sweet potato fries which are delightful and cooked just right. Always clean, staff is always welcoming and helpful. I ate here for lunch a few days ago. As I stood in line waiting to order the manager opened another register so I wouldn't have to wait (bonus)! But I notice after I handed him my card he swiped about 2 or 3 times. Then he called the General Manger over and started quietly speaking in Spanish! (Uhm odd)... After that he handed her my card and she began to swipe several times before she asked "sir do you have another card this one isn't working" . WHAT?? A lot of people are complaining about the fact that the chicken patty is thin, but I like it that way. It does tend to stick out at the end, but it's still delicious so who cares? This was my second time being here, and I still think that it is a four star burger. It is fast food, but I think that for the price, the fresh burgers are really great! I have had the Baja burger and the Mushroom Swiss. I really liked the Baja burger because of the fresh jalapenos, but the mushroom swiss was great too (although a bit oily). THey have a variety of fries from sweet potato, to regular fries to their smash fries with rosemary, salt and olive oil. I love the smash fries because they are super thin, but my brother is more of a wedge person, so I could see how he doesn't like them as much. Their milkshakes are delicious too although I can probably only have one every couple of months. I really enjoy the taste of their burgers. My all time favorite is the truffle mushroom swiss. Something i DO not enjoy is the ridiculous sizes.... Long time ago the burgers used to be so big. I do agree with some of the other reviewers that when you walk into this place, it feels like you're walking into a trendy restaurant instead of a burger joint. It's also nice that they bring your order to your table instead of for pickup. However, I do feel that the burger and fries here are much greasier than Five Guys. Although, I have to give credit to Smashburger for getting their bread right. Their bread actually has texture, and tastes like it's made from scratch. Their meat also tastes juicier than Five Guys, but that's b/c theirs burgers are a lot more fatty. As for the fries, I think if they kept the rosemary and salt mixture, but left out the oil, the fries would be more enjoyable. I don't know if the rosemary flavor would still be imparted onto the fries with this suggestion. Another thing is they are a little more expensive than Five Guys (understandable given their food tastes fresher). Overall, I would still come here if I had a real hankering for a "greasy", but fresh burger. However, I would probably still go to Five Guys for their awesome cajun fries. read more

So glad I finally got to try this place out - it was really, really good. I ordered the mushroom swiss burger with truffle oil and the smash fries, and it was cooked perfectly and super juicy. They definitely didn't skimp on the amount of mushrooms they put on the burger, which was a nice change. The fries are sliced super thin, and the drizzle of the seasoning on top really makes a difference. Deducting one star because it was ridiculously greasy and definitely something I'll only have on occasion, but it was a guilty pleasure well spent. The office is only six minutes away from the restaurant, but by the time I arrived, our bags were soooooooo greasy I thought the contents were going to tear thru the bottom. It was literally dripping with grease. My coworker sat her bag on her lap and ended up with nasty grease stains on her dress. The food itself was subpar. Our buns were just as greasy as the bag, oils dripping down our chin when we took a bite. Our fries and onion rings were cold and soggy from all the grease. Unfortunately this was the most unappetizing meal we have ever had. I felt sick after eating what small portion of the food I did. I felt sluggish and nauseous the rest of the day. Not sure what I would think of Smashburger, I've had them before, but it's just not the first place that would pop up in my mind if we feel like having burgers, even if it is on a whim. If we go, it's because of us getting coupons (which is something we've started to get in the mail recently). We stopped in today to order the food, for the price that one pay for a burger, which is something along the lines of 6-8 dollars, I'd expect them to be a little bigger. Something the other reviewers have brought up is the bun being too small for the meat, which I could kind of see, it didn't happen to me when I ordered their classic chicken burger tonight, which is a tad on the thin side, looks like they beat it pretty thoroughly with a meat tenderizer before putting it on the grill, because it looked pretty uneventful. My wife's burger, which she wanted to create her own, when I was asked what size to get, I got the bigger piece of patty for her, which I think turned out to be the right choice, because it looked much better, and it seemed to fit just right in my wife's smaller hands. We have had the smashfries before, and though they tasted and smelled good, but we can never finish the batch, because it's almost always too oily. Instead we opted for the sweet potato (regular, not the smash) fries, tasted much better and our almost 2 year old daughter enjoyed them too. This would've cost us close to $20 without the coupon, which would be on the expensive side for us in terms of eating burgers (we ended up paying about $11). Overall, without coupons, we'd probably eat elsewhere for our burger fixes. read more

A few years back when Smashburger first came to Houston my coworkers and I would frequent the location off OLd Spanish Trail. I always opted for the "Smashburger and Smash Fries" which I loved. Today I was with the family and we tried the First Colony location. I knew my wife would enjoy the Smash Fries due to her eclectic palate. She also tried the shake which I have never thought to try. She and my youngest son both said it was good. My son didn't enjoy his BBQ burger due to the BBQ sauce being so sweet. I on the other hand really enjoyed the "Spicy Cowboy" burger. I couldn't resist when I read the contents of this delicious morsel of a burger! Grilled garlic jalapeños, melted aged cheddar, applewood smoked bacon, haystack onions, and BBQ sauce........WHUTTT!!! I really enjoyed this burger, but I have to agree with my son in that the BBQ sauce isn't that great. A smiiget of ketchup solved that problem for me. Now you are probably wondering why I didn't give this joint five stars since I, unlike my son, thoroughly enjoyed my FOOD. The reason being is that there were a few things that jussssst wasn't right about this Smashburger location. 1. The tea container at the drink station was uncovered and at a level in which anyone overlooking it could easily drop something into it or even cough over it......and yes....possibly sneeze into it. 2. There was a container sliced lemons near the tea container and I get it....sliced lemons for your tea, but again this container had no cover. The final thing I didn't like about this location...... 3. The men's bathroom needed serious attention. No........I didn't take pics of those three negatives cuz I don't want to remember any of that, and didn't want to turn anyone off from trying Smashburger.
