In 2022, I chose Smedley's--a dealership my family has trusted for over 40 years--to trade in my 2016 F-150 and 2015 Challenger for a brand-new 2022 Silverado RST with the 6.2L engine. It was my favorite car I've owned. I truly believed I was investing in a strong, reliable powertrain backed by a dealership that stood by its customers. Unfortunately, I couldn't have been more wrong. Just 2,000 miles after the warranty expired, the engine developed a loud knocking noise. Smedley's diagnosed it as a catastrophic engine failure but said I'd need to pay $2,000 for a teardown to confirm if it could be rebuilt for around $6,000 or if the engine needed replacement for $12,000. Faced with that situation--$2,000 just to find out I might owe $12,000 more--I had no real choice. I was under stress and financial pressure, so I traded it under duress and took a major loss, leaving me upside down on the next vehicle. Even after that, I tried multiple times over the next couple of years to work with Smedley's and Chevrolet to see if there was any help or goodwill assistance available. I was told the "next owner" would have to get it diagnosed, even though Smedley's had already done that. That made absolutely no sense. When I finally checked the Carfax report, I was shocked to find they had simply done a "tune-up" on the truck and put it right back up for sale. To add insult to injury, I later got a text from one of their salespeople offering me a "manufacturer discount" on an electric vehicle. I've never felt so cheated by a dealership in my life. My entire family (extended w/GM Family Discount)--who have bought from Smedley's for decades--no longer trust them and now take their business elsewhere. This dealership is unethical and dishonest. My 95 year old father who suffers from dementia lives with us. We keep an eye on him best we can and he now has agreed to give up driving as he get lost and cannot find his way home. He stopped (by himself)in at this dealership when we were unaware and the salesperson convinced him to buy an $80,000 Tahoe. Now I get it, there job is to sell cars. Problem is it was very clear Dad was not of his right mind. When they went out for a test drive, the salesperson took him to a bar for drinks!! They got him to sign the paperwork which my dad didn't even know his own address, phone number or any of the critical loan information. Most of it was incorrect. They had to notice he couldn't find his way back to the dealership on the test drive. Once I found out, I contacted the dealership and they were very uncooperative and unwilling to fix the mistake. I even offered to take a loss just to get dad out of this new car payment of $1200/month as his SSA is only &1580/month... I ended us calling the bank and they requested the medical evidence of his dementia so I sent the Cleveland Clinic diagnosis from 2019. The bank contacted the dealership and the dealership was still very unwilling to work with me. Even the owner -Joey Smedley was nothing but a swindler. They basically took Dads 2018 Silverado as trade in and gave him pennies for it. They took the Tahoe back but we lost over $6000 PLUS they kept his Silverado and would not return it. We ended up losing a ton of $$. Some of this is just due to Dads illness and I can understand we had to take a loss. But they took advantage of an elderly old man and I would never go to this dealership because of this. Shame on you Smedley! read more

My 93 old father snuck out and traded his car. These low lifes took him to the bank to get his money. They new his credit was lock so he could not get a loan so that is how the ended up at the bank. Failed to do the right thing: When the clunking of the ball joint starts and then the control arm cracks on a 2019 Fusian 5 weeks after it's driven off the lot AND before the first payment is made......they throw their hands in the air saying nothing we can do (like your Warranty was even going to cover it), then say "besides it's a Ford we are a Chevy dealer" (like your technicians can't fix anything but a Chevy) and then accuse you of hitting a curb - not people I want to do business with EVER again! You FAILED - I would have split the cost like another dealer did on a car 12 years ago for me when I had a catastrophic issue. Buyer beware. read more

First experience: went to get a discontinued part for my G8. There were two on the shelf at a dealership in Washington state; i know this because i called that dealer, however, they would not sell them to me over the phone and ship. I went to Smedleys parts to see about doing a dealer to dealer transfer; standard practice as I came from working for car dealers. Smedleys parts said they were not available. After telling them where the parts were and supplying the dealers information in WA, they said the part is not available and can not be ordered l. I went to White Allen Chevrolet, supplied the WA dealer information, and they got them to me no problem. White Allen was dumbfounded as to why Smedleys would lose a sale like that. Second experience: my mom's car got hit and Smedleys did the repairs. They had panels not aligned, clips broken, broken window belt molding (was not broken going into the body shop as the door was not involved in the accident; they needed to blend the paint into the door which is whybit was removed), the damaged and deformed wheel liner damaged from the accident was not replaced, the headlamp tab on the drivers headlight was still broken (hit on the right front corner). The grill has a gap on the right between the headlamp and is touching the left headlamp (reson why the headlamp tab is broken; front end is shifted) and this also indicated the front is shifted, even just slightly. The guy that came out who was dealing with the car (service advisor, i guess) was rude and needed to be put in his place, I just didn't want to have cops called. If he makes comments like he did yo me, someone will lose it and knock him down, figuratively and literally. He also said that the manager wouldn't call me since I'm not the owner of the car but I have all the information on the poor repairs, as well as pictures. I have 18 years working for dealers as a technician before leaving the industry. Flat rate and watching people produce poor repairs like this taking advantage of people who don't know any better got me to leave. If you do use their services (don't), be careful, do full walk around with pictures, and stand your ground. read more

Drove 170 miles to trade for a new truck. I was told they would give me top dollar for my trade. I had been offered 34,500 at another dealer and had a buy bid of 35,000 from another dealer. When I got there they wanted to give me 28,000 for my trade because the market had gone down considerably ...The market is still hot on good used and they were just trying to steal my trade after telling me high dollar for it...Big waste of time. The worst! Do not get your car repaired here -- they will rip you off! Brought my truck in with dead hybrid batteries that needed replaced and Jeff in service quoted $3800 for it. Called White Allen Chevrolet to check the price since I thought that seemed excessive and boy was I right... only $950!! Jeff will take advantage of you if you don't shop around and the way they run their business is not reputable. I would 100% never buy from this place again I really wish I would have read the reviews before going to see Smedley'S because it sounds like they put alot of junk on the lot and sale it as is...I bought a truck from them and within 3 days of having it the check engine light came on and it started shaking on the high way well come to find out the transmission fluid was about 2 qts low and black and on top of that the Is catalytic converter was bad which I believe they knew about and cleared the code and sold it to me anyways now I would be talking to a lawyer to give them this truck back as clearly after reading the reviews in this place they have done this to alot of people!!! read more

I went to Smedley's with a concern for the RPM's on my truck shooting up. They ignored everything i said and only focused on the check engine light. Me not knowing any better thought they were fixing my problem. So $400 later still having the same problem. I was told the transmission was slipping a bit and to "keep an eye on it". They didn't even check the fluid, I took it to get an oil change at another business and the fluid was 3-1/2 quarts low. A day later I give them the benefit of the doubt and they wanted to charge $800 just to diagnose the transmission. I took it down the road for a FREE diagnosis of the transmission minutes later. read more

I went to Smedleys to have my truck checked out. The estimate was $350.00 to start out to replace cam positioning sensor. I commented that could be a car payment. I looked at a 2019 chevy cruze. It was used and had almost 4000 miles on it. I went thru everything drove the car ect. I was told the price was 19 thousand and change. I put down 10 thousand cash down payment to help keep my payments low because I told them Im a disabled veteran and dont make much on disability. I did purchase a zebart package and extended warranty cuz apparently chevrlet doesnt come with any factory warranty. The last man I seen was throwing things at me so fast I became confused. So what actually happened is that Smedleys charged me full new price for a used car with almost 4000 miles on it. I got a rebate from GM for 1200 dollars and a 1000 dollars because a family member retired from gm. I put down 10,000 dollars cashiers check and now owe 15,758.34 and loan fee of $2831.91Dollars. Now its over 18000.I owe. I looked at my paperwork and seen they charged me $22,282.11 for a used chevy cruz and my sales girl told me the used cruze was marked down to 19 thousand.They got me. I did question my sales girl about it and she said she didnt understand it and took it in the office n came back saying he gave me 750.00 off. Bottom line is this. Please be careful dealing with Smedley's chevrolet in Vandalia Ohio. My first new car purchase ever in my life at my age of 59 and trusting my hometown chevrolet dealership is now feeling taken advantage of and actually being cheated by the man in the office. I was so happy to have a new car but was extremely let down that they seen me coming. I cannot work anymore and it took me a long long time to save the down payment. I made a large down payment in order to keep my payments low since I only get a thousand dollars a month disability. Isn't it sad how some businesses are doing business these days ? Stay away from this business if you're looking to purchase a vehicle and are a woman! I purchased my 2012 Chevy Malibu new here and the first time I had to take it in for service I was treated horribly. They couldn't diagnose a simple wiring problem with my rear defrost after taking it to them 3 times for the same issue and my insistence something was wrong I was pretty much told the problem was all in my head. I was told their lead technician checked all of the wiring and the car was fine, but could provide no proof since my rear defrost still didn't work. After speaking to the Manager and getting no where we decided to take my car to Murphys Auto care where they had the problem diagnosed in 1 hour. My rear fuse box was completely melted. Which confirmed Smedleys never checked anything. Since my car was under 40,000 miles I reached out to Chevrolet to try and get reimbursed for my fuse box with no response. I will never purchase another Chevy. Neither the manufacture or the Dealerships stand behind their products. read more

I had an incredible experience at Smedleys. I purchased a 2014 Cruze from their pre-owned vehicle department knowing there was a problem with the speakers. The salesman made a verbal promise (nothing in writing) that they would replace the speaker that was causing the problem. They replaced the speaker, but the problem remained. They replaced more speakers, replaced the wiring, and then the stereo harness, still didn't solve the problem. I had to bring it back a third time, this time they ran all sorts of test and wound up replacing the radio itself - problem solved!! Throughout the entire experience I was impressed with their professionalism, dedication to solving the issue, and the lengths they went to based on a verbal agreement. All of that work was done without charging me a penny. Even though this is a dealership, it has all the good qualities of a hometown family owned business. Highly recommend!! read more

I had my vehicle in this week and talk about getting bent over a barrel... $350 for a battery... when I was told that I said I'll just come get my car because I found that to be way high. The battery installed at Voss with a battery test would be $202 at Jeff scmitt $189 and at white Allen $191. I was told if I didn't get my battery done I would still owe $175 for testing.... what a rip off tactic they used to back me in to a corner. What they also do not realize is my fathers company has a lot of his vehicles fleet serviced here. I also will be filing a complaint with bbb and General Motors. As well as notifying the state attorney general. Yeah it's only a couple hundred dollars but it's the principal of unfair and unethical business. I was also denied when asked to speak to the manager and the service advisor said that my car takes a special battery so I called to verify part numbers with the other dealers and that was the same battery I was going my to get.... so bottom line if you take your car here and want to be treated fair it's just not going to happen. read more

To be fair, I feel it is appropriate to provide an update to the review I submitted in Feb 2013. Tom, Smedley's Operation Director, contacted me regarding my review. He took the time to hear my situation, the details of the experience with the dealership, and listened to my suggestions. I am impressed with the level of concern and actions taken to remedy the erroneous labor charges. I am not saying all the issues with Smedley's customer service are resolved but I can attest to the concern management has for dissatisfied customers. I would like to refocus on the strengths of Smedley's leadership and customer service by specifically highlighting Jacob as a 5 star customer service rep. If you are going to have service performed on your vehicle, ASK FOR JACOB! Should you have any issues with your experience at Smedley's, feel confident Barb will speak to you in a respectful and reasonable manner. This dealership is Trash!!! I bought a car from them a couple of years ago and it was a lemon, then they promised to fix any problems that I had with the car, but when I took car to them the charged me to fix it, the car had to be returned to them at least 8 times in the first 2 months that I had it, they cheated me out of 2K on my trade-in, they use high pressure sales tactics to get you to buy their cars, they sold me a worthless warranty that covered nothing on the car for 2K, when I tried to return the car the day after, after discovering all the thing that were wrong w/the car they gave me the shaft & refused. So I looked them up w/the BBB & found dozens of complaints, as well as many with the attorney general of Ohio, for slimey practices that they do in business, I ended up paying over 6K in repairs(none covered by them or slimey warranty they sold me), they stood by not one promise they made me their integrity is non-existent, I ended up paying over 22K for a car that I was supposed to get for 11.5K, that was only worth maybe 12K, because they also cheated me on the selling price of the car, if this was the last car dealership on Earth, I would walk before I would buy a car from them, my advice would be to stay as far away from this place as possible, buyer BEWARE, be very BEWARE & if you don't believe me, it's in Court records!!! read more

The worst, bought a used Jeep and the extended warranty which pays for nothing! used the warranty 3 times now and every time the warranty covers this but not that. The latest is the AC compressor bearing is bad, the warranty covers the compressor but not to take out my Freon and recharge the new compressor that another 160.00 plus the 100.00 deductible, the other 2 times was just as bad. Stay clear of Smedley's and the so called extended warranty. read more

Our salesperson Kim was outstanding. She was very attentive to our needs and did a very nice job considering her time in her position. My vehicle meets all of my expectations with the following issues. There was a door ding/rock-chip on the left rear door. While I am extremely confident in the dealership's repair facility (I work in the auto damage industry) to correct this I am disappointed we will have to break factory paint and apply a very small amount of body filler to this panel. I also have a right rear back seat cushion that has a small minor tear in the leather. Again, not a major issue but an issue in that I am afraid won't be addressed. These, again, are minor issues in the grand scheme of things but when I am purchasing or leasing a vehicle worth over $50K I'd hope these items would not be something needing to be addressed. If these items were not apparent I would have rated this as a 5 star/10 recommendation. read more
