I brought my car in because the airbag light turns on after moving the passenger seat. They scanned the car, confirmed there was an airbag issue, but offered no real diagnosis or fix. They recommended replacing the battery, charged $150 for it, and wanted another $150 just to install it. I declined the install and later confirmed that replacing the battery did NOT fix the airbag issue, making the recommendation unnecessary. They also suggested the airbag issue might be a recall, which they could have easily verified using my VIN--but it was not a recall. I also asked them to look at a rear leak and was told to pull a drain plug and then referred to a body shop because they didn't know how to fix it. I paid $120 for diagnostics and walked away with no solutions. Unfortunately, this shop has gone downhill over the past few years, declining from a great place to one with weak diagnostics and questionable recommendations. Customers who aren't car‑savvy could easily overspend here. I won't be back. read more

My radiator was leaking. The fluid ran along the coolant line to the rear heater before it dripped at about the midpoint of the vehicle. They cut it and capped it off, on the assumption that the drip indicated where the leak was. Sloppy, half-ass effort. I found out later that I paid a lot of money for them to not fix the problem. Steve Potter left years ago. Then Dean passed away. Dean must have been the guy who held the place together. They aren't worth a shit now. read more

I made an appointment a week ahead of time and when I showed up, they claimed that I didn't have an appointment but told me that "I could get any appointment I wanted" (implying that it was because of my appearance). Then, they charged me 90 dollars for an oil change. 3 days later, my car started making a strange rattling noise so I took it in to a different place. Turns out they dropped a wrench end cap into my engine and also overfilled my oil. I do not recommend this place at all. There are so many better options nearby. read more

Solid locally owned mechanic. We have been going there for several years. They are heavily involved in the local business community with BNI involvement and work rely a lot of referrals. Their reputation is very important to them so I'm a bit surprised at seeing some negative comments on here. I've never experienced that at all. read more

I'll never come here again. The final straw of this place was when my car got really loud all of the sudden, and being a '98 Saturn, I assumed it was just the age. My father-in-law was a mechanic and took a look and they had put my muffler on upside down. My father-in-law was puzzled and told me only a skilled mechanic could do that... on purpose. That was just the last straw. I ignorantly spent about a year getting infuriated over a coolant leakage that was "due to the age of my car" or "we aren't sure." I finally took it to Autozone and BOOM, never happened again. I also took it another time for a simple oil change, and all of the sudden my windshield wiper fluid stopped working. The tube had magically came unhooked. There's no way that just happened. My windshield totally whited out in a snowstorm and it was awful. Again, my father-in-law found the problem. I think they're crooks who take the money of people who they know don't know anything about cars. read more

They used to have great service and fair prices, but in the last 6 months whatever change in management or policy they've had has ruined their business. Do not go here any longer. They will rip you off!! I had my mechanic friend look over my receipt since it seemed high and they literally upcharged over 150% on a tie rod. They also claimed way more labor than way needed and charged over $20 in "shop tools" -- aka rags and lubricant. They used to be so fair, so it's a shame to see them go down hill. Go elsewhere unless you want to pay double what's fair and then argue to deaf ears. read more

Great repair shop. My husband used to be an auto mechanic, and he had already researched the cost of the repairs we needed before we took our car to SCP. Their price was fair, and the final bill actually came in a smidge under their initial estimate. I liked that they were nice guys that I felt comfortable dealing with. I have been using SCP Automotive for over 5 years now, and they have never, ever done anything to even make me suspect that they are trying to pull a fast one. Larry and Dean are good, honest people, who try to get you back on the road without breaking the bank. They do excellent work, provide rides to and from the shop for free if you only have one vehicle and are just really caring and professional. I am in no way affiliated with them. I'm just a customer who has been treated with respect every single time I have taken my vehicle in for repair. I can't believe some of the negative reviews about them. Did the people who wrote them even try to bring up the issues they experienced with them before they wrote the review? I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't have tried to make things right. That's what they do. If you need a good, honest automotive mechanic, SCP Automotive is the place to go. Skip the national chains. They're the scam artists, not SCP! read more

As a non-native of the Dayton area, I had no idea who would service a Saab that wouldn't start because of the cold. Luckily, a friend recommended these guys and they took good care of my car. They told me from the start that it might take a couple days, and it was done sooner than I expected. They kept my car for no added charge for a few days while I was traveling and did a great job fixing it. When I had a hiccup that seemed similar to the first issue, they towed it to the shop, checked it out, and solved the problem again without charging me for that work. They were good guys, seemed reasonable, and they fixed a Saab--which no one else I could find would do. read more

I recently took my Saturn Vue to SCP for suspension work and they did a great job. The work was done properly and efficiently (1 day) and the final cost beat other estimates. The car no longer pulls to the right and the suspension noise that originally got my attention is gone. I am an engineer and I found the SCP mechanics to be friendly, honest, and automotive experts. I highly recommend SCP. Prior to going to SCP I was told by a dealer that I needed an entirely new suspension including struts on all four wheels. The estimated price by the dealer was $1950. Ouch! That's when I decided I needed a second opinion on this and SCP was just the ticket. SCP found that the struts were not leaking and still had substantial life left. The bottom line is that they fixed the suspension for just under $1000. Thanks again SCP, great job. I'll be back. --Cliff read more
