The office is very clean and large. The reception was prompt and there was no long wait. 2. The receptionists upsold me a cancer screening and fluoride as a "bundle for first-time visitors" with the option to pay upfront. This was before I was even examined by the Dentist to determine if I needed either. I suspect that they may be incentivized to do this. 3. Most of my appointment was spent with the hygienist, who was very thorough with cleaning and X-rays. They wanted to take a ton of photos of my face, which I had to decline - most were unnecessary if the dentist was going to check anyway. 4. Of the hour I spent there Dr. Rickerby only saw me for about 5 minutes. He immediately offered Invisalign and a few other services that weren't covered by my insurance. 5. Dr. Rickerby focused more on steps to straighten my teeth than their condition. I originally wanted to know if I had cavities and ended up leaving without an answer. Overall, the cleaning was great, but I feel this office is more concerned about upselling additional cosmetic options than about covering the urgent necessities for dental health. I also believe a dentist should explain what needs to be done to alleviate the issues the patient cares about the most - they didn't. Any optional recommendations should have been secondary to that I've never been to a dental office that went straight for sales pitches and upselling on services that aren't covered by insurance once I walked into the door. Because of this, I am not confident that Rickerby is a dentist I can trust. So, I'll be looking elsewhere to hopefully a place that is more concerned about my health first.

This experience turned into a nightmare. I have never been afraid of dentists as I have generally had good experiences. I take very good care of my teeth, but for some reason, I suddenly needed two filler replacements and two onlays. This is the most amount of work I have ever needed. While I thought this was crazy, I went ahead with the replacements, because I was moving in 6 weeks to yet another city and my office trusted this dentist. The dentist did some of the work and then let his assistants work on my teeth. When I left I experienced quite a bit of pain. They told me to come back in for some adjustments. I was told I would be seeing a dentist. When I got there, the dentist said hello and then the assistant worked on my teeth. Again, I left and had pain. I was at the dental office every other day for a month trying to get "the adjustments" fixed so I wouldn't have pain. I have never had to get "adjustments". In my experience, dentists have gotten their work right the first time. My last experience was my final onlay. Again after the onlay was put in I had to get adjustments done cause I couldn't chew without pain. The assistant working on my tooth didn't numb me. She drilled away hitting a nerve. I screamed in pain and tears rolling down my cheeks. I kept telling her it hurt. She said, "I know. I am sorry. I am almost done." It took nearly 3 months for the nerve pain to go away from that tooth. Another tooth continues to bother me. The dentist told me he drilled close to the nerve. He then told me, in 3 months if I still have pain I will need a root canal. Well it has been 5 months. I still can't chew on the right side of my mouth. Why the "F" do I need a root canal after seeing this dentist. I didn't need one before! I didn't even have problems with my teeth before going to this dental office. This dental office also had the audacity to bill me once more after I moved. After they told me I had everything settled. Two months after I moved, they told me my insurance wouldn't cover EVERYTHING. Awesome.. since when I was there they told me my insurance company would pay up to this and this amount. I paid the hefty remaining balance. In any case, I am now in another city... still in pain with no dental insurance and deathly afraid to see another dentist (I didn't have a fear of dentists before). I never want to experience this kind of pain again, both physically and financially.

I should begin this review by saying that I've had extensive work done here, and unfortunately a great deal of different procedures at other dentists and periodontists in NYC and Florida. Dr. Moskowitz is a dream dentist. He's as upbeat as he can be, yet he never sugarcoats the situation. He will answer endless questions, and never seems frustrated or irritated. I don't like dentists, and I am kind of a wuss when it comes to pain, but he is unfailingly gentle, and will stop and administer more anesthetic in the middle of a procedure if the patient wants it. I cannot say enough about my experience with him, and with his assistant, who also went to dental school, Dora. They are an amazing team, and I trust them completely. Why? I read some previous reviews about unnecessary work ordered, but I had all different options and price points discussed with me, and wasn't pushed toward the most expensive option. My father made the same decision to have a permanent bridge put in, and his dentist (in Florida) was not as good as Advanced Dental Care - he gets food caught under it and it irritates his gums. My bridge fits so well that I feel like it's nearly my natural teeth. They didn't rush to cement it in, but used temporary paste, until I was sure that the fit was absolutely correct. So why not 5 stars? They are EXPENSIVE. I have dental insurance, and with the insurance that they take, I'm still paying tens of thousands of dollars out of my own pocket. I know that there are less expensive dentists out there, but I've decided that the thoroughness and expertise that I have experienced here are worth the money. After all, it is your mouth, and I don't know about you, but I like eating. Extremely long wait after appointment time to be seen, and the administration is horribly managed. This place is terrible. I went to get my wisdom teeth removed. The consultation was standard and everything went fine. They verified that I was qualified for a loan and repayment plan but then I received a letter in the mail after my surgery saying that I did not qualify for the extended repayment plan despite being assured before my surgery that I was. They had me sign up for a plan that caused me financial stress under false pretenses. They called to reschedule my surgery twice which caused confusion with my job because I had to request time off for the surgery and then change it, twice. When I arrived for my surgery, I had to wait an hour and half to be seen by the surgeon whose assistant did not follow her instructions to x ray me while I waited, causing more of a delay. The guy before me had been waiting for two hours. The surgery itself went fine. They have very capable doctors. But so do A LOT of other dental offices. I received IV sedation and it was very fast. The big issue with this place is the management and administration. It is VERY poorly managed. They sent my scripts to the wrong pharmacy (TWICE!) and it took a few hours after my surgery to get them. Also, I requested an itemized receipt for my surgery both before and after my procedure. Was initially told hey can't give that to me until after the procedure. Then on 10/12 when I followed up I was told it would take a day to get to me. It's 10/17 and I still don't have my itemized receipt and they have not called me back. This is what I wonder: 1. I asked for an itemized receipt before my surgery and they said that they could not provide this until after the surgery because that's when they would be able to calculate the totals. 2. If that's the case why did they give me a solid price (the wording was, verbatim "the surgery will cost $2400". It was a definitive statement and not a quote) and have me sign up for a loan and repayment plan based on this amount if they can't actually calculate the totals until after the procedure? 3. Why are they unable to supply an itemized receipt when requested? Why don't they already have this information calculated and on file? Why won't they return my calls about this? Why are they being so shady about this? I am concerned that this place takes advantage of those who need dental work and who may be economically vulnerable, in a lot of pain, and who may be desperate to get this work done. I sincerely regret using Brooklyn Dental and besides my follow up, will never see them again.
