My family and I have been coming to Dr. Limhengco for over 15 years. We've had dental work and cleaning done regularly at his office and he's always been thorough and helpful. I like that he explains what's going on with my teeth throughout the appointment. I had really bad tooth pain and they were able to accommodate me asap and work on my teeth. The pain was gone very fast and hasn't come back. They offer great advice on how to keep your teeth healthy and clean. Staff in the front desk has aways been very friendly and helpful for us on the phone and in person. They always work with mine and my family's schedules and insurance. The location is extremely clean and they are constantly sanitizing, wiping things down, and changing gloves. We always have great results here! Definitely recommend! read more

I called to schedule a cleaning and, as I was a new patient, they said I needed X-rays and an exam. This was expected so I scheduled the appointment. They did the exam and X-rays then told me I would have to make a separate appointment for the cleaning, but with a periodontist. Additionally they strongly recommended that they put a crown on a chipped tooth, for $1,100! My former dentist and the one I visited both told me chipped tooth did not require a crown. My impression: high turnover, high revenue for them. read more

Wow not at all surprised by the rating of this dental clinic. Just came back from this place and had to give a review to save another parent from taking their kids to this stupid place. Didn't even wanted to give one star but yelp wouldn't let me post without a star. You might be wondering why didn't I go to a pediatric dentist. First of all, I our insurance changed and this was our default place to go and when I called they mentioned they see everyone. So wanted to give them a chance. But now that I have experienced my time with them I told my husband when our insurance opens up again I want to change our son's dentist. Second of all... This place is horrible. The receptionists the two ladies are horrible. They are not friendly or caring. They look miserable and rude. Looks like they don't like their job or shouldn't be working there coz customer service is important and that is why you are AT THE FRONT OF THE OFFICE TO SEE CUSTOMERS!!!! Otherwise don't work there!!! When we went and saw the two ladies demeanor I wanted to give the dentist a chance. After all we went to see him right? Oh my my he was as bad. Impossible to get ahold of anyone. I called their emergency line (yes for an emergency)... and I got a call back over 72 hours later! I already did my foot work and made appointments for my husband with a difference company by that time. They didn't even want to hear about how long they took, once I said I called someone else it was an "okay have a great day and bye." One of my upper tooth crowns fell off so doctor ordered me a new one but took me 4 trips to get the temp crown to work, it kept on falling off, Dr. Chow grinded the tooth so much to cause severe pain for weeks. He also grinded the lower tooth crown hard that its deeper layer was exposed. It was a terrible experience and I won't go back again. I just got out of Dr. Limhengco's office. I needed to remove my loose tooth. I was really nervous since it has been 30 years since I had any tooth remove. Dr. Limhengco was very calming and assured me that everything will be alright. I didn't feel any pain when he gave me the shot or any kind of movement when pulling my tooth out. He also had to do a bone graft and I felt he really took his time in doing it. I feel Dr. Limhengco is the best in his field because I felt no pain. I was also impress with Judy and other front office staff who are very helpful and pleasant and put me at ease. I will recommend Smile Makers to all of my coworkers, friends and family. read more

I recently made changes to my dental insurance and wanted to make an appointment for my daughter @ smile makers. I called the office and their receptionist - Judy, promptly put me on hold... for over 10 minutes! During the hold no one bothered to check on me (I must've just been a blinking light on the phone while the receptionist was busy filing her nails.) As soon as I hung up and called right back guess who picked right up? Judy. I inquire about making an appointment and let her know about my recent insurance changes, she doesn't even ask me for any information and immediately tells me those changes aren't on their rosters. Well can you call my insurance for verification? She says, "No, You'll have to call them and if you like you can conference call back and I'll take over from there..." (Isn't that what they pay YOU to do?) I tell Judy that I'll give them a call first and hang up. So I call my insurance... they inform me that they don't call the dental offices! They're supposed to contact my insurance for verification! WTF! I ask my representative if she wouldn't mind being on a conference call so we could verify information... she doesn't mind. So I conference the dental office... Judy answers and........ PLACES US ON HOLD! The rep and I chit-chatted for about 5 minutes before I hung up. Needless to say, I switched my dental provider back to our prior dentist. Who cares if you have a beautiful state of the art dental clinic when you can't even make an appointment to go there and see it. Sorry smile makers, terrible first impression. I would give zero stars if I could. I should have yelped before going. The receptionist is probably one of the rudest ppl I've had to encounter (I believe Judy was her name and she's mentioned in other reviews). I went bc the location was convenient. They told me I need to get my cavities refilled bc the fillings were cracked. Overall, I didn't get a good feeling so I went to my old dentist in Davis. They said there was nothing wrong with my fillings! Then they charged me $25 for a 1 page print out of my X-rays which my dentist can't even use. They refused to email or make a cd and asked why I couldn't just take new ones. BE WARNED! Save yourself the grief and go elsewhere. read more

I'm not sure why there is such a discrepancy between these ratings. I can only assume people who are either really happy or really disgruntled are making these yelp reviews. I am apparently one of the happier ones. A lot of people talk about Judy and how she is very rude. If you actually go to the office you will see how busy they are most of the time. It's not like they are sitting around and not doing anything. However I agree she could check up on you if you are still on hold, but sometimes too many people call in at once. 10 minutes on hold isn't really that long either. I call the hospital and get put on hold for multiples of 10 minutes. As for Dr. Limhengco, I think he's an awesome dentist! He's friendly and funny and his numbing is the best! I don't even feel anything when he numbs! He takes his time and makes sure that you are comfortable. A lot of people seem to think he OVER diagnoses, but I'd rather him be safe than sorry with my teeth! He is not forcing you to do the procedures. I think of it as him giving me red flags and I choose what I want to do. What I don't think needs to be done, I don't do. But this is just my personal philosophy and opinion! But basically, I really enjoy seeing Dr. L because my OLD dentist wouldn't do a great job numbing. It would be painful during the numbing process, during the treatment, and actually after from soreness! But I think Dr. L does a good job and is careful with his work. I haven't had a problem yet! So as long as I am pain-free, 5 Stars from me!!!!! read more

Receptionist wouldn't even make an appointment because she didn't think she could accept my insurance... but wouldn't call my insurance company to confirm, said that I had to call them myself. I already called my insurance company and that's why I was trying to make an appointment here in the first place!!! The lady who answers the phone didn't even want to work with me at all! Told me they are a dental office they deal only with medical procedures and not with insurance companies, which makes no sense at all. Can't even make an appointment due to the rude receptionist!!! After reading the other reviews, I decided to write my own to give this place some justice that it deserves. My family have been coming to this dental office for many years. The office is always very clean and organized. The doctors that we have met throughout the years have been very nice and professional. They treat their patients with respect and accommodate our needs reasonably. Instead of some other dentists that only tell you things that you like to hear to get return business, Dr. Limhengco and his medical staff would tell you the truth and educate you to better care for your teeth. Yes, truth hurts sometimes. I felt like I haven't been brushing or flossing as diligently as I should. But hey ... why would you pay for something not true and not good for you. I have two kids who started to see Dr. Limhengco when they were only 3. The doctor and his staff worked with them gently, and my boys actually enjoy coming in and getting their teeth cleaned. Judy, Michael and the other staff at the front have always been helpful and accommodating. They are very knowledgeable with various dental plans and have made a lot of good recommendations to us to better use our benefits. All you need to do is ask. Before we found Smile Makers and when we moved a few years ago, we tried other dentists. No one even came close to Dr. Limhengco and his staff. We strongly recommend this place. read more

This Demist office is soooo bad and dishonest. I saw Dr. Limhengco on June 22, 2010 for exam/ tooth cleaning. I at the time was a new state employee, and had to find a dentist covered under my plan. Let me start with the fact that I am 27 years old and my adult teeth are, and have been cavity free my entire life. Well, this dentist did not perform a teeth cleaning but did take x-ray's of my entire mouth and my x-ray came out perfect, not one dark spot, all beautiful, white teeth on camera. So here I am thinking things are going great, and he comes in to "inspect" my teeth, using not the metal pick that sticks to your teeth and finds cavities', but a little air tool. He begins blowing on my teeth and calling off all sorts of terms, I have never heard before & I started to get nervous. After this went on for some time, I interrupted him, asking what he was doing and he told me, "sssh, I'm calling your cavities'" (I immediately start crying and am in complete shock) I have more than one. He precedes to tell me I have 14!!! Then I lost it, I could not stop crying. Once he finishes his exam, he asks me if I floss & tell him 2x a day, every day & he told me, I can see that & that is why you have no cavities' between your teeth. He told me one of my teeth may need a root canal and sends me up front to get an estimate for everything. I didn't even get a cleaning prior to or after the exam. So his "proposed treatment" was 13 fillings- ALL with caps and one root canal. Costing my insurance 6700, and me 640 out of pocket. After I had time to get over the shock and reassess the situation, I realized he was being deceitful and attempted to get money from my insurance. I went in for a second opinion from my regular dentist who I have seen for many years & he was outraged with the copy of x-rays I paid for from the smile makers and my treatment plan they gave me. He in addition submitted his own letter to the board of review regarding this outrageous proposed treament plan. I have NOT ONE cavity in my mouth! I have filed this office to the Dentistry Board for malpractice and have been in contact with my insurance and filied a report and intend to take this to the top, I want this dentist to be held accountable. How dare him think he can get away with attempting to cause me harm by filling non-existent cavities and stealing from both me and my insurance. I want to spread the word, so that this office can't take advantage of people they way they attempted to me. This place is horrible, all they do is to scam people money. I been there for braces, however they took me to lots of procedures but still not helping me to put on my braces. I did a root canal, deep clean, crown, filling. All together is about 6500. But still they said I need to pull some teeth out, which I understand. But they charge 450 to pull a normal teeth, and I need to pull 4. 6 months pass by I still haven't get my braces. I decide to change my dental office and I ask them if I can get my x-Ray back which I pay for $100. They said if I want my X-ray back I have to pay 100 additional fee! Wtf???? Then I went to find a better office, I told what happen to my new dentist and he said I did not need a root canal... This office will come up with imaginary work that they feel needs to be done. I recently went for a second opinion at my old dentist office and learned that most of the work smile makers said I need is false. They charge $300. more than the copay we are supposed to pay. They ordered pain pills and antibiotics for my husband but no one in the office knew why or what they were for. The staff is rude and short in their answers to questions, and are not willing to work with you. Just left my old dentist office after have a filling done. I payed less for it cash, than I would have paid after my dental insurance paid their part to smile makers. What a racket, corporate store with a corporate attitude. Should call it Frown Makers. This guys are scam artists and tried to OVERCHARGE me. I had an exam and the Dentist and staff were friendly and efficient. Then they gave me a list of recommended treatments (A few fillings and a deep cleaning). I have insurance and I noticed that the prices quoted to me were much higher then they should be. I asked if they had all of my insurance info and if the adjustments had been taken. They said it was correct. I showed them the print-out from my insurance company of what i should have been quoted for the treatments. They said I was wrong and "that I needed to read the fine print". I verified with my insurance company that the quotes I received from Smile Makers were NOT correct. I showed up to my next appointment and was told that my appointment was canceled and I was no longer a patient. They told me that I should have gotten a letter... I asked for a copy of the letter and it said that they would no longer have me as their patient and I was REQUIRED TO FIND A NEW DENTIST. All of this because I questioned their quote?!? Don't ever go here! They will either overcharge you or drop you as a patient. They couldn't even call me to tell me my appointment was canceled. Smile Makers also tried to overcharge my wife $675 for a crown when it should have been only $240 (with our Aetna insurance). We are going to find and Honest Dentist (not an easy task in Sacramento). I took my mom here for her dental appt and everyone was so sweet!! The minute we walked in the door we were greeted with nothing but smiles!! My mother is very afraid of the dentist, but they were all about making sure she was comfortable! After the shot (which is my moms biggest fear) she said she didn't even feel it!! They were all about patient care, we left with some toothpaste and toothbrushes!! My mom was all smiles when she was done with her appt with Dr. Limhengco. My mom loves going to the dentist now!! went in for a regular check up. I was told that I had an old filling that had cracked and that it had caused some problems with the tooth. They told me I would need to have the tooth ground down and capped. Even though I had no issues with this tooth I assumed I would soon if the dentist said so. We proceeded with the procedure. It was painful of course but that is expected. Once the tooth was ground down the took an imprint to have the cap made. While it was exposed they did a cleaning. During this cleaning the dental assistant accidentally put the metal hook right into the open wound. Did not make me happy but accidents happen. When I jumped she acknowledged the mistake. A minute or two later she did it again. At this point I was quite upset. I told her to just stay away from it and to not even clen that area around that tooth. At this point she switch to the motorized brush. As she made her was around the mouth she went right over the area and the exposed tooth. At that point I had had enough and left the room. Even though this had already been my worst experience at any dentist it still was about to get worse. Once I got the cap put on, the sensitivity of the "fixed" tooth (that I had no issues with to begin with) was not getting better after two months. I can not chew on it. I went back and they sent me to a specialist to see about a root canal. When I went there the office they sent me to had not information on me from my regular dentist. This "specialist" was just another regular dental office and thought I was looking for a cleaning and such. When I told them my situation they said they were sorry but did not know why I had been sent there. The only good thing I can say is that they are very friendly but that hardly makes up for their incompetence. read more

Be careful when getting scheduled for even a normal cleaning. They tried to schedule some extra cleaning that our insurance doesn't fully cover and would have required over $100 out of pocket. No mention of that while scheduling the appointment. Wouldn't schedule for just a normal cleaning without consulting the dentist. Will not be returning. read more
