From their website showing they take "almost all insurance plans."
    Wendi H.

I'm giving 2 stars due to communication and really, a bit of shadiness in my opinion. I was referred to SmileOn by our family dentist because we were looking for a place that our insurance would be in-network for orthodontics. My dentist office assured us that SmileOn would accept our insurance (Delta Dental.) When I made the consult appointment, they requested our insurance information and during the 1-hour consult, verified our coverage and said that we would be responsible for paying SmileOn directly with the insurance check we would "get in the mail." That sounded odd, and I should have asked more questions. That's my fault, but It told them I'd call our insurance to verify the process. They never mentioned to me at any time, either when scheduling or while in their office that they are out-of-network for ALL DENTAL INSURANCE, meaning they don't accept any insurance at all, but say that they are "Out-of-Network" so that their patients have to do all of the work. Honestly, if they don't take insurance, that's fine, I don't care, but say that up front instead of wasting our time with a consult, delaying our treatment start for my kiddo. They have on their website that they accept most all dental insurance which is not true. They might take your info, but you aren't getting your benefits for contracted rates. Charging me non-contracted rates, fine, but tell me that, because it means we are paying thousands out of pocket, when it's just not necessary. I called my dentist to let them know about this and they were shocked. They had no idea and said they'd stop referring anyone there because of this practice. We've found another in-network provider to use with great reviews and amazing team, and will save thousands, with very little out of pocket. To be fair, and why I'm not giving a 1-star, everyone in the office was friendly and nice.

This is a good place for braces and comfort! The staff and Dr. are very nice, friendly, and professional! The wait time is good not more than 5-10 minutes even we there a bit earlier than scheduled time. It's well organized! My first child is done with the braces but I will take my second one soon (this month). The staff will call your name when you walked in with a smiley face. Even $1000 or so more expensive than other places we still want to go back for a good service.

Doc Ak and his team are the absolute best! They have an upbeat office, knowledgeable staff and offer a wide variety of ways to get involved with the community! My now 12 year old daughter has been a patient for a couple years now. They have expanded her pallet, fixed her cross bite and now working on getting all of her teeth in a nice straight row! My daughter loves going to the office. She is never scared. She loves taking pics with their photo props, playing on the iPads in the lobby and sometimes we just chill and watch HGTV... but not for long because they are QUICK! We never wait long! A+ in every way!

I just had the most unnerving experience with Dr. Pandya. Please DO NOT EVER let your child go alone in the back with them. Let me preface this review by saying, three of us are in ortho treatment with this practice and I have not been impressed with the business from day one. From waiting over an hour to have no adjustment done several times, to them filing my insurance as secondary (which it's not, and has caused so many headaches), to overly aggressive rushed techs who complain as soon as Dr. Pandya walks out about being over-scheduled with no breaks. BUT today was the final straw and dangerous! My son went in to get his braces removed when the tech started he had some sensitivity and A LOT of bleeding. She continued to reassure me that much blood is completely normal and his gums would be a bit swollen (see pics attached for "normal").  Next, Dr. Pandya came over for the final polish and jumps in, and starts aggressively sanding at my son's teeth and gums. I watched my son's legs jump and arms completely tense up as he was wiggling around uncomfortably but when he got to the bottom teeth (more sensitive) he continuously said loudly OUCH and raised his hand for a break. He would not stop, it went on long enough that my son started crying. We have all been to the dentist with sensitivity and been given a quick break to regroup. What a venerable position for a child to be in, or adult for that matter, to have a medical provider hurting you but not listing to your pain and continuing to inflict it. I have never in my 38 years witnessed a dentist, or medical provider for that matter, behave the way he did today. It was bizarre and concerning. After I stepped in to say his behavior was ridiculous and to take a damn break when someone is in pain - when he continued, he aggressively wiped the blood off with a napkin and moved my son's head around by his teeth. It was as if he had something going on in his life or he hates us. Either way, don't take it out on my kid when you have a drill in your hand. My son cried the entire way home and said he is so glad it happened while I was in the back (previously they wouldn't let us in the back due to COVID). Needless to say, we will not continue with this practice and strongly urge anyone interested in this practice to research this place a bit more. Keep in mind they incentivize patients to write good reviews and his wife does their marketing.

Doc Ak had the best Halloween costume! His staff were all dressed up as his cats, it was so cute!! I love how much fun they have!

I was referred to 'Doc Ak' by Dr. Sura at Reveal Dental. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcome. When I showed up for my free consultation, I was warmly greeted right away by the front office staff and waited only a few minutes. Several visits later, they still warmly greet me and even remember my name. It's such a pleasant experience every time I go in. Doc Ak has a HUGE heart, and really knows what he's talking about. He's so patient in answering all of my questions. I can tell what a great person he is by his staff. They're always cheerful and it's clear they enjoy working with him. As a 40 yr old with Invisalign, I get approached a lot by people, asking questions about it and many say they've aways wanted to get it done. I always tell them what a great experience it has been and highly recommend they go in for a consult at Smile on Ortho. Thank you Doc Ak and your entire staff for making my dreams of having a beautiful smile come true!

I was in Austin for a short while and I kind of needed the process of getting my invisilign rushed, and somehow he pulled it off.

I promised myself I would write this review before the end of the year, so here it is!…read more I had a very poor, but formative, experience at Avery Orthodontics. My case was transferred in 2022, but I wanted to complete treatment with another orthodontist and take a mental break before writing this. 1. The sales/mock-up presentation that led me to sign the contract was very different from the treatment that was actually carried out (see photos). I noticed this immediately in the "final" mockup and brought it up. 2. I was told not to worry - that the mock-up "wouldn't look like that in real life." Over time, however, I began to see that it was certainly trending in that direction. And that's all fine. The issue is that it took an excessive amount of effort to get Dr. Barnett to truly listen to and engage with my feedback. At times, I felt dismissed or made to feel unreasonable for raising concerns about my own teeth. I eventually had to learn orthodontic terminology to clearly communicate what I was seeing, and at some point he finally started taking me seriously. Only after a very long, emotionally taxing process and multiple course corrections did things begin to improve. During treatment, I experienced a chipped tooth, went into braces, and incurred significant travel costs flying back to Austin after relocating to Los Angeles. My projected treatment time was 8 months; it ultimately took two-ish years under Dr. Barnett. Toward the end, I decided to transfer my case to another orthodontist. I was happier with the overall direction, communication, and results. The treatment I received at the new orthodontist made the difference in potential care very clear. That said, there was lasting damage. My front teeth now have enamel wear that did not exist prior to treatment, and I recently required a root canal on one of my front teeth under endodontic care (due to orthodontic stress, not hygiene issues). My teeth and enamel were healthy before this process began. This experience was genuinely traumatic, though it also taught me important lessons about self-advocacy as a person and as a patient. Patients often expect doctors to be technical experts but also communicative and attentive. IMPORTANT- The care team and staff were excellent - kind, organized, and professional. They consistently treated me like a human being and were the reason I stayed as long as I did. I see that Dr. Barnett has many positive reviews, and I don't doubt that many patients have had good experiences - especially children whose primary goal is bite correction. However, if you are an adult patient with aesthetic concerns, I would personally recommend an orthodontist who explicitly integrates aesthetic concerns into treatment planning and communication. I will edit later with photos.

I have never left a review before, but I feel compelled to share my experience…read more I would like to begin with the positives. The assistants in the office are very kind, welcoming, and eager to help. They listened carefully to my concerns and even remembered my name after just one visit. Their professionalism and kindness did not go unnoticed. Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Barnett was the complete opposite. I initially went in for a removable bottom retainer after my permanent one (which I had for over 25 years) fell off. The assistant created a removable retainer using a scanner, but it never fit properly. I had to return at least three times for adjustments. Each time it was modified, but it continued to fit incorrectly. The retainer was cutting my tongue and the inside of my cheeks and, even more concerning, it began causing my front teeth to shift apart -- creating a gap that I have never had before in my life. On my third visit, Dr. Barnett stated that he did not want me to pay for something that did not work and said he would offer Invisalign instead, comped due to the failed retainer. I made it very clear multiple times that I did not want to pay for another retainer since I had already paid for the first one. He assured me I would not be charged. His assistant was present during this conversation, and when I asked her to confirm what I heard, she stated that she understood the same -- that I would not be charged for Invisalign because the original retainer had failed. At my next appointment, Dr. Barnett attempted to modify the retainer again, further cutting and shaving it down to the point that it had completely lost its integrity. When I calmly mentioned our previous conversation about not being charged for Invisalign, he became visibly upset, stood up, and walked out of the room without saying a word. When he returned, I asked him why he seemed upset. He responded that "everyone expects to get this free." I apologized and assured him I was not trying to offend him -- I was simply referencing what he had previously told me. I chose not to involve his assistant in that moment because I did not want to put her in an uncomfortable position. I left that appointment feeling extremely uncomfortable and never returned. I ultimately had to seek care from another orthodontist and spend $1,000 to correct the gap that developed after wearing the retainer made in his office. Additionally, despite seeing me multiple times, Dr. Barnett never remembered my name and often addressed me incorrectly. While that alone is minor, combined with the overall experience, it reflected a lack of attentiveness and professionalism. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this orthodontist due to concerns regarding communication, professionalism, and integrity.

I originally took my son to Dr. Vasut for a second opinion. He was recommended by a preschool teacher who had had a good experience. The dentist we had been seeing for the previous few years was proposing some drastic work to be done, including putting him under, which I did not think was necessary considering his demeanor and ability to cooperate. From the moment we walked in the door at Cedar Park Pediatric Dentistry, the staff was friendly and welcoming. Dr. Vasut spent time talking with, listening and getting to know my son before ever looking in his mouth. He reviewed the X-rays we had brought with us (didn't request that we retake X-rays on his machines.) He spent time listening to my rendition of the other dentist's prognosis after giving his opinion. The verdict was that my son did not need the level of work that the other dentist had proposed, nor would he need sedation for a cavity. Of course I was relieved that his professional opinion agreed with my gut feel. I was extremely impressed by how he interacted with me and my son. We immediately switched to Dr. Vasut. I have recommended him multiple times to friends and have only heard good experiences. One of my friends had done the whole braces routine with one child, has a non-brusher for her other child and she continues to love Dr. Vasut and recommend him! We have been through many cavities (my son was prone to them with his baby teeth), Dr. Vasut and staff have always been firm in reinforcing the hygiene without shaming or being mean. We have watched difficult baby teeth that are in the way of the adult teeth and determined whether to pull or not. (One my son was able to work out the other we pulled a year later before it became a real issue. The root on the second one was 2/3 the length of the tooth!) My daughter goes to Dr. Vasut too and really likes him. She has had less challenging teeth, so there are less interesting stories for her... It is never a battle to get my kids to the dentist office. Both kids like the games in the waiting room, the coin rewards and putting their name in the trout! We are in the middle of doing braces on my son. The timelines and steps have been clearly communicated. Billing has been efficient and straight forward. The office is always clean and welcoming. The appointments are timely and efficient, rarely have we had to wait after our appointment time, and often they have taken the kids early if we are there. The front desk staff is welcoming and wonderful at working to schedule kids together for multiple appointments (like cleanings with braces checks). I am very thankful that we have found this group and appreciative of their ongoing hard work.
