We had the worst experience here. We were 14 minutes late to an hour and a half appointment I had paid almost $6000 for so the office manager decided to yell and cause a scene in front of the staff and other patients instead of working something out with us. She was extremely loud and would not let me speak. It was shockingly inappropriate. I finally had to ask one of the other women at the desk to please just give me a refund. I asked if there was anyone else I could speak with but she whispered "that's the manager". I feel so sorry she has to put up with such an awful woman every day. I am over 70 years old and wanted to do something about my crooked teeth. But, I kept thinking, maybe I'm too old to have a nice smile. My wonderful general dentist, Dr. Shipra Gupta at Lakeline Family Dental suggested I have a consultation with Dr. Akash Pandya, (Doc Ak) at SmileOn. The first visit was very comprehensive and various treatment options and payment plans were presented. I was grateful that my dental insurance would cover most of the cost. I decided to get the clear Angel aligners. I was awed and a bit overwhelmed by the equipment in the office and the ability to take a few pictures and have aligners made for the year. The front office staff, the patient care coordinator, and the certified dental assistants are GREAT. You can have the best dental work but, staff makes the difference. Always encouraging and happy. And, every staff member has beautiful teeth. That, to me, was a good sign. -- Doc Ak and staff try to make the orthodontist visits a little fun by having monthly contests, raffles, and quizzes. While these activities are probably geared more toward younger patients, I must admit, I did participate in some of them. Prizes are awarded to the monthly winners and are announced in the informative monthly newsletter. Most of the activity with the aligners took place at home. I would take weekly pictures of the aligners in and out of my mouth using the Grin app and then progress to the next aligner after SmileOn review. I didn't think I would get through a years' worth of weekly aligner changes but, here I am, almost at the end of my treatment. Next step - whitening. I AM SO GLAD I MADE THE DECISION TO HAVE MY TEETH STRAIGTENED. I can't imagine a better orthodontist or practice than SmileOn. You deserve a terrific smile. read more

I'm updating this review as once again we found ourselves here! Our pediatric dentist recommended pulling some canines to make room for the adult teeth- but we were concerned as ultimately we know we will need to come here anyways! As usual DocAck was amazing. Professional and kind. He outlined what he already knows he will need to do and given that the pulling now just won't make much difference. We appreciate his honesty and that he spent the time to outline what he can all ready tell will be needed. His is thorough and really knows his stuff. The office is also amazing! Very child friendly- of all ages! And the staff are top notch professionals. Going to the dentist is stressful- going to orthodontist even more so. They do everything they can to make the patient (and the parents) feel at ease and to have fun. My son has been under the care of Dr. Pandya (Doc Ack) since Feb of 2019. As a former RDA and hygienist, I can attest that Dock Ack and his staff are knowledgeable, professional and put the patients first. *The following verbiage is not the opinion of the Smile On staff nor has any content for this post been given to me by the staff* Now, let's get to it. I wanted to address a few comments that were made by other Yelpers posts for this business before I post my personal experience with this Dr. Ack and his staff. To the Yelper who posted "Questionable ethics. Don't be surprised if the ortho pulls multiple teeth ---" There is no orthodontist who will pull teeth while orthodontic treatment is given for several reasons. The first is that any Orthodontist will refer this process to an Exodontist or DDS. Further, an Orthodontist does not have the tools in-house to perform extractions (like Cowhorns, elevators, etc.). Conversely, deciduous teeth often become loose during orthodontic treatment and when this does occur, a competent DDS will advise the patient of such. Last, any patient who starts treatment with an Orthodontist or any DDS has signed an informed consent about the possibility of any treatment rendered disturbing adjoining teeth. To the Yelper who posted "I also found out that my insurance covers absolutely nothing and that would have been nice to know prior to me taking time off work to go to this appointment". It's the patient's responsibility to review their own insurance coverage before making an appointment. Smile On also offers interest free payment plans that can be used in tandem with insurance or individualized payment plans to help those who have limited or no orthodontic insurance benefits. The other statement made in that post to address is "There are no partitions between exam chairs. My consultation was in a glass room--" This is not unique to Smile On. When I started my orthodontic care over 20 years ago with an orthodontic practice in California that has no affiliation with Smile On, the set-up in office was the same. Further, while my treatment started in California, it concluded in Singapore (as I moved during treatment) and the Orthodontists in Singapore also had an open set-up (no partitions). This is because it's easier to see more patients in a reasonable amount of time while preforming four-hand dentistry. Last, a lower amount of aerosols are floating about in comparison to a traditional DDS or Exodontist office(s). This is because dental treatment requiring the constant use of high-speed hand pieces and/or a surgical suite or closed operatories are not done here (which debunks the first Yelper comments I addressed). Now for my review.... Doc Ack and his team have been up front, honest and extremely responsive in addressing any of my concerns with my son's treatment plan. I applaud the efforts they have taken during COVID to take care of patients while still being safe. I also appreciate the friendly demeanor of the staff. This is one of the best investments I made in myself. It's been 2 years since I started with SmileOn, only 1 appointment away from getting my braces off. If you're wondering about the results, trust me, you can already see your teeth starting to straighten out after a few weeks. Months in, you will start to realize how neat your bites will look and get to see your brightest smiles. You may be advised to extract some teeth in order to achieve the correct bite and the most beautiful smile. I'm giving 2 stars due to communication and really, a bit of shadiness in my opinion. I was referred to SmileOn by our family dentist because we were looking for a place that our insurance would be in-network for orthodontics. My dentist office assured us that SmileOn would accept our insurance (Delta Dental.) When I made the consult appointment, they requested our insurance information and during the 1-hour consult, verified our coverage and said that we would be responsible for paying SmileOn directly with the insurance check we would "get in the mail." That sounded odd, and I should have asked more questions. That's my fault, but It told them I'd call our insurance to verify the process. They never mentioned to me at any time, either when scheduling or while in their office that they are out-of-network for ALL DENTAL INSURANCE, meaning they don't accept any insurance at all, but say that they are "Out-of-Network" so that their patients have to do all of the work. Honestly, if they don't take insurance, that's fine, I don't care, but say that up front instead of wasting our time with a consult, delaying our treatment start for my kiddo. They have on their website that they accept most all dental insurance which is not true. They might take your info, but you aren't getting your benefits for contracted rates. Charging me non-contracted rates, fine, but tell me that, because it means we are paying thousands out of pocket, when it's just not necessary. I called my dentist to let them know about this and they were shocked. They had no idea and said they'd stop referring anyone there because of this practice. We've found another in-network provider to use with great reviews and amazing team, and will save thousands, with very little out of pocket. Update: The last time I checked, we had free speech in America. But SmileOn punished me for expressing my opinion on Yelp. I thought I was very nice about it. I gave them 2 stars. I said I liked the place, but just didn't like their ridiculous mask policy. Now I have to change my rating to 1 star. Because they fired me! Over the masks! Here's what happened: The women at the front desk were very rude to me when I went in after I posted this Yelp review. Pushed a mask in my face again. I said no, I won't wear one of those -- they have parasites (this is a fact -- search on DuckDuckGo and Bitchute -- easy to find the evidence). And I offered to wait in my car again. They told me I should take my business elsewhere. I said, Wow, you really want to lose a customer over this issue? Apparently they did. Because then Dr. Ack called me and told me I could take my business elsewhere. Around that time, someone recommended the Alf appliance to me. I started looking into it and wow! Amazing before and afters. So we found a doctor in the Houston area who will install the Alf. Not only will this straighten her teeth but it will help widen her palate. Braces are really a bad solution. They only straighten teeth and don't widen the face -- which causes lots of problems later in life. Look into Alf. But if you still want to do braces, you can find orthodontists that are not not rude like the people in this office. I bet they'll still be wearing their masks a year from now! The wait time is good not more than 5-10 minutes even we there a bit earlier than scheduled time. It's well organized! Our experience with SmileOn has been wonderful. My daughter just got her braces off today and the results are great. In addition to that, the office has a very modern, fun, and inviting atmosphere which I think is really nice as you'll be visiting whichever orthodontic provider you choose fairly often during the braces journey. The doctor is very kind, has a great personality, and seems very knowledgable and passionate about his craft. The women who run the office are also very warm and inviting, and we never had an issue with scheduling or getting questions and/or issues quickly addressed. My daughter had a lot of anxiety today about the removal procedure, and the woman, Monica, who was doing the removal was AMAZING. She truly went above and beyond to help my daughter feel comfortable. It meant a lot to both my daughter and me. So if you have kiddos that tend to be anxious about dental procedures know that this office has people who can accommodate them. Hands down to the best orthodontist and staff on earth! I was referred to Doc Ak by Dr. Sura - my dentist at Reveal Dental next door. I needed to get my teeth straight since 2016 and went to another orthodontics office in Central Austin, but I didn't feel like I wanted to move forward with him. He wanted to pull my 4 wisdom teeth and my other 4 teeth out right in the beginning, which freaked me out. Growing up in Vietnam and having terrible dental experience there traumatized me until today. My life was completely changed when I visited Doc Ak. At my first consultation, everyone from Stephanie (appointment manager) to Jennifer (treating coordinator) was super nice. They gave me a warm and very welcoming feel at this office. After checking my awfully crooked teeth, Doc Ak immediately gave me a specific plan. One thing that sets Doc Ak so special compared to others is that he wants to keep as many natural teeth as possible. If it isn't necessary, he will not pull your teeth like others would decide to do right off the bat. I knew my jaw is small, so getting some teeth pulled might be a must. Doc Ak really put me at ease when he said he wanted to see how my mouth looked without getting anything pulled first. If it doesn't look good, we will talk about that possibility and get to it later. That gave me time to mentally prepared - who likes to get teeth pulled? Doc Ak explained everything thoroughly to me which was very easy to understand. It made my decision very easy to let Doc Ak give me my healthy and beautiful smile. Office: Very nice and clean with simple yet pretty decor. Orange is his color which makes everything pop and look warm. Appointments: They're very on time. The longest I had to wait was just 15 minutes and it was the only time (I've been there for 1 years and 2 months now). Staff: Every single chairside assistant is a rockstar. They're experts in what they do and they love their patients. Becca and Tina see me more often. MacKenzie made my anxiety go away before I got my teeth pulled. I just had the most unnerving experience with Dr. Pandya. Please DO NOT EVER let your child go alone in the back with them. Let me preface this review by saying, three of us are in ortho treatment with this practice and I have not been impressed with the business from day one. From waiting over an hour to have no adjustment done several times, to them filing my insurance as secondary (which it's not, and has caused so many headaches), to overly aggressive rushed techs who complain as soon as Dr. Pandya walks out about being over-scheduled with no breaks. BUT today was the final straw and dangerous! My son went in to get his braces removed when the tech started he had some sensitivity and A LOT of bleeding. She continued to reassure me that much blood is completely normal and his gums would be a bit swollen (see pics attached for "normal").  Next, Dr. Pandya came over for the final polish and jumps in, and starts aggressively sanding at my son's teeth and gums. I watched my son's legs jump and arms completely tense up as he was wiggling around uncomfortably but when he got to the bottom teeth (more sensitive) he continuously said loudly OUCH and raised his hand for a break. He would not stop, it went on long enough that my son started crying. We have all been to the dentist with sensitivity and been given a quick break to regroup. What a venerable position for a child to be in, or adult for that matter, to have a medical provider hurting you but not listing to your pain and continuing to inflict it. I have never in my 38 years witnessed a dentist, or medical provider for that matter, behave the way he did today. It was bizarre and concerning. After I stepped in to say his behavior was ridiculous and to take a damn break when someone is in pain - when he continued, he aggressively wiped the blood off with a napkin and moved my son's head around by his teeth. It was as if he had something going on in his life or he hates us. Either way, don't take it out on my kid when you have a drill in your hand. My son cried the entire way home and said he is so glad it happened while I was in the back (previously they wouldn't let us in the back due to COVID). Needless to say, we will not continue with this practice and strongly urge anyone interested in this practice to research this place a bit more. Lovely office & very nice staff. I appreciated office tour and the fun things they offer for patients. I understand 95% of orthodontics revolves around children & teens so the office vibe definitely caters to them. As an older potential patient who didn't need orthodontics until later in life, I did feel a bit uncomfortable in the office. Everything felt very out in the open. There are no partitions between exam chairs. My consultation was in a glass room in the middle of the office where giant up close photos of my teeth were plastered on a large screen tv and I was getting an exam in a very uncomfortable orange chair in the glass room all while anyone and everyone walked by. I also found out that my insurance covers absolutely nothing and that would have been nice to know prior to me taking time off work to go to this appointment. I feel like this is a fantastic place to take children for ortho care. The staff was great and the office decor was adorable but I personally just didn't love this vibe for an adult appointment. We were a transfer from Colorado and they made the transition seamless. They have a beautiful clean office and the staff is amazingly nice and professional. My daughter loves going because of the fun, monthly drawings they have for the kiddos. We have been going a few months now and I have to report that Dr. Ak and his staff are always kind and on time.
