My prior dentist closed up and I began looking for dentists in my area. Smiles on Belmont is just down the road, and in addition to a great location, the people are superb! Dr. Charron has a personable, easygoing chairside manner, and took his time reviewing my history since I was new. Frankie took my full mouth of x-rays and was gentle with my child-sized mouth and jaw. The dental hygienist knew her stuff and cleaned my teeth with purpose but also had time for us to converse as best as you can during a cleaning. The administration team got me checked out and on my way with ease. The only thing missing was no appearance by Hazlenut, the therapy dog, but perhaps in October for my follow up I'll be fortunate enough for her cameo. I haven't had dental insurance for a decade or longer so I have the freedom to select where I'm going, and I'm so grateful for Smiles on Belmont. I only wish I'd started going sooner! read more

The dental assistant I would say was better than my actual dentist there. She was absolutely amazing. The dentist was extremely rough in my mouth for a tooth extraction. The worst I've ever had. I've had very similar extractions from other dentist that went way better than their dentist smushing my face to remove a tooth. I am giving one star because of them charging my card UNAUTHORIZED. I was told an amount to pay and that my insurance covered the rest. They told me my insurance was being difficult and that they would take care of it. They have been blowing up my phone since because I guess they were wrong in what my insurance can or can't cover. When you tell a patient that their insurance covers a particular amount or not, they base their decision on what they can afford or choose to do. TO CHARGE MY CARD WITHOUT MY PERMISSION IS ILLEGAL. How do you even have my card number?? I swiped my card on a reader. I will be visiting, believe that. This is not professional. I would not recommend the front staff or this dentist. It was my first 6-month checkup/cleaning with hygienist Ellen, who provided by far the best, most thorough cleaning I've had in a long time. She did the cleaning "manually" (using the cleaning tools, which I prefer, and I think works best and cleans more deeply, instead of using the newer, "hydrosonic" method that in my experience tends to squirt water all over the place). She said she uses both methods depending on the individual needs of the patient, but in my case the old-fashioned technique was appropriate, and I obviously agree. Ellen is highly professional, with 30 years experience (though she appears to be only about 30 years old herself)! Ellen's great, and I requested that she be my hygienist at my next 6-month appointment. I've been a Smiles on Belmont patient for over 20 years and have always been very satisfied with the care they provide, whether for routine cleanings or crowns and other more complex work. read more

So, circa 20 years ago when I moved to Portland from my hometown of Grants Pass, I asked my dentist in GP for a referral of a Dentist office up here. The recommended Dr. Brock at "Smiles on Belmont" and I went there a few times, and it was great! But, I moved on to dentists at my University, and a different office - when I was about to get married, I switched to the same Dentist as my Fiancee' (now hubby) and then we had a different Dentist when we moved out to Hillsboro! All great practioners! But, when I moved back out to East Portland circa May 2022, I had a couple of different Dentist offices recommended to me from the DDS in Hillsboro, but my gut feeling was to check out "Smiles on Belmont" - I did notice that Dr. Brock was not longer at the office and appeared to have retired, and there was a new Dentist at the office named Dr. Charron. I was uncertain whether I should go forward with the new-to-me-Dentist or not, but my Dentist in Hillsboro advised that when a Dentist is about to retire, they usually take care to select a really good replacement for the Practice, so you know they will be good! And, I took a chance, and I have been really impressed! I'm not sure of the names of the Staff members that I have met yet, but they are really friendly, and helpful! Maybe the dentist gets less scary as one ages--or more likely than that, this place is incredible. Owing to, well..."life" a fair amount of time passed between my last dental visit and my trip to Smiles on Belmont (i.e. law school, change of careers, 8,5 months of pregnancy, COVID-19, and many many moons). I'd like to say it was just time--but a big tooth on the top of my mouth did instead. After trying to schedule an appointment with three other dentists offices for about three days (not long unless you have a broken tooth)...I called Smiles. 10-minutes later I had an appointment scheduled. The first star is for that. I put the wrong date in and they had to call and remind me about the appointment--but they did even that in such a professional and understanding way that--the second star is for that. When I arrived for my appointment I had no trouble parking, the lights were on, the staff were cheery and they were ready--it was only 8 am. In a time where too many of us act "put out" by treating people well--the entire team at Smiles is a brilliant exception. The office was clean, warm, (dare I say cozy) and from arrival to the time I was seen was 5 minutes at best. Third star. The assistant who took my x-rays was new to this practice and was learning the new equipment, but I only knew because she told me. The process was explained, I had the chance to ask questions, and the information provided was thorough and accurate. The dentist, whose name I didn't catch was no exception to the excellent care provided by the team. He made time to handle my big problem in the same visit--and again, he was friendly, competent, calm, and courteous. He made sure to go over what he was doing and to share the risks and options. And when it came time to do the work--he did a great job. Fourth star. The next day, they called to let me know they had a couple of times if I wanted to come in and get a cleaning. My four PM appointment featured the same great team up front, and an excellent hygienist. My x-rays from the day before were already pulled up and Tia was clearly familiar with my case. She too was knowledgeable, courteous, and competent--I probably wouldn't have noticed if it had taken her a minute to read over my chart--but the truth is, I was impressed by how obvious it was she already had. It seems all too often that convenience, competence, and courtesy are tough to find under one roof; Smiles is a very happy exception. Five stars all day long. I'm lucky to have found them. And I'm now a loyal customer. read more

I would give this place a poor review as I thought I had paid all that I owed and received $975.00 bill at property tax time six months later. All told I think I paid around $1800.00 out of pocket. If you like giving your money away go here. I also have insurance and could not get a second cleaning because there was no money left. I've been going to Dr. Brock since I moved in with my boyfriend ( now husband) 12 years ago. He lived walking distance from there. When our baby was tiny I used to wheel her over there in her stroller so the nice reception people, Bobbie especially, could ooh and aah over her. She's ten now, and now I drive across town at the crack of dawn for my dental appointments, so does her dad. We like Dr. Brock, and we like Sherry, who cleans our teeth and lectures us about flossing and using our electric toothbrush. She fusses about my husband's blood pressure. She's awesome. So sweet. Dr. Brock even came in on his day off once to treat my dad right before our wedding, because my dad cracked a tooth on a burger when we went out to dinner two nights before. He's that kind of dentist. Sherry also helped my mom find low cost dentistry when she needed help for something major and didn't have dental insurance. I like that they go the extra mile for us. This was the only dentist who has EVER offered me numbing cream for my sensitive gums, sunglasses for the bright lights they shine in your face, and a 5% discount for paying cash. I was looking for a dentist in Portland having moved here 6+months ago and knowing it was time for my biannual visit. From the dental assistant to hygienist to the actual dentist, I felt welcome but not pressured to be overly friendly or chatty. The x-rays and cleaning were relatively painless. I went to a DIFFERENT dentist through Groupon last year and had a pretty bad experience- it was like going to Jiffy Lube in so many ways. After that, my expectations for dentists dropped drastically. However, Dr. Brock and the wonderful technician who took care of me wiped that black cloud clean away. They were comfortable, careful, listened well, and everyone seemed to really know what they were talking about. I felt like I was treated as an equal. Plus, I am super sensitive to menthol and mint, and they even had great "adultish" alternatives. Best dentist experience ever. Look no further if you want a great dental experience! I'm 54 and have had major anxiety about going to the dentist since I was a child so hadn't made it a priority for five years. I was referred to Dr. Brock at Smiles on Belmont by a friend who has been getting regular dental care for her self and her kids so made an appointment. It was easy to make an appointment and get an immediate quote on what my insurance would cover and what I would be responsible for. The staff are fabulous! My first visit was an in-depth evaluation including digital x-rays, an examination by Dr. Brock and a thorough cleaning by one of the dental hygienists. The dental hygienist taught me about my teeth and how to take care of them properly....in a way that I could understand. Even though I hadn't been to a dentist for 5 years, everyone was extremely reassuring, pleasant and complimentary. No lectures (which is what I was dreading)! I was surprised because I asked about teeth whitening and the electric toothbrushes they had for sale....no sales push on either. In fact, it was recommended that I get over the counter whitening strips. This really gave me confidence in establishing trust that they were looking out for my best interests as a patient. I just got back from having one of my molars filled (oops!). It was the first painless local anesthesia I have ever had! The filling was a piece of cake! Just petty, or unethical? I pay a monthly premium for dental care, which should fully cover two checkups and cleanings a year. Mid-year, Dr. Charron took over the practice of the former dentist, and I received a bill for his services. Turns out he is not signed up with my dental plan--I chose the former dentist because he was--but the office did not inform me of the change. Insurance did pay the bulk of the bill, and I believe the kind, and the right, thing for the dentist to do would have been to write off the $66 balance. Who the hell likes going to the dentist...? Not me! I wanna cry every time whenever I see my 6mth maintenance coming up.. BUT! let me tell you.. these people are like a dentist version of your genuine mom and pops restaurant. They make you feel so comfortable and so genuinely caring. Let me tell you why: I had a co-worker who was having major gum or teeth problem. She made an appointment as soon as she can near our work (in the pearl) to get it checked up and guess what? they told her that she had to get implants! uhhh at the age of 34? I dont think so. So I told her to go see Dr.Brock just to confirm. and what do you know... it was just an inflammation so they were able to fix her right away. Ive always loved them but this just made me feel confident that they arent trying to rip people off and they actually care. Ive actually moved further away so it's quite a drive for me but Im willing to and its totally worth it. Listen guys, I have serious dentist anxiety. I still go, because I value keeping my teeth a LOT, but it's NEVER been a good time. What I mean is, I'm scared guys. I get claustrophobic in that chair. Bad. I'm going to say something crazy here: I am looking forward to my next visit to Dr. Brock. What, you say? No one wants to go to the dentist, you say? Yes, I understand your skepticism. But. Dr. Brock and his assistant (I wish I could remember her name because she is really actually THE BEST) are so fun and funny that I actually had to stop myself from laughing while they were fixing my crown, and doing a filling. What? That's just crazy for someone who usually has a full fledged anxiety attack EVERY time I go to the dentist. I've been twice and I honestly don't dread my next appointment. This is lifelong phobia -that's gone! Also, I had a quote from another dentist for this same work and it was REALLY expensive. Since it's my front tooth I was going to just spend it. But my neighbor, who has perfect teeth told me to see Dr. Brock. So... I was jealous of her teeth, so I went where my envy led me, Dr. Brock. His rates are better, and he didn't try to sell me on a bunch of other stuff the other dentist said was"manditory" if I wanted my teeth to match. Instead, he's just making sure they do. It's the fact that after twenty years in the dental chair I've found the place that takes the time to naturally find care for their patients. Awful front desk staff they lack proper communication skills. I went in for a pain in my jaw, I had a appointment and was waiting for a hour past my appointment time to be seen by the dentist. When I finally was seen he took 5 mins with me and suggested I see his wife who is a chiropractor. I go to check out and they said I was all good to go. A month late I got a bill for $85 for the dentist to do nothing for 5 mins. What?!?! Excellent dentist, excellent staff! I've been a patient of this office for years. I was initially referred to Dr. Brock because of my over-the-top dental phobia. When Dr. Brock recently retired and Dr. Charron took over the practice, I was really stressed. Over the years I'd never had a bad experience with Dr. Brock and was both heartbroken that he was leaving and fearful that my days of completely competent and comfortable dentistry were in the rear view mirror. I couldn't have been more wrong. Dr. Charron is wonderful. He has the light touch and skilled hands of a gifted dentist, as Dr. Brock did. Numbing shots, while they are never going to be something I look forward to, are carefully done and with a minimum of discomfort. He has a couple of tricks up his sleeve for working within my small jaws that mean I go home without being sore from holding my mouth so far open and the work he has done on my teeth to date has been stellar. I think that having no change of staff when the practice moved from Dr. Brock's hands into Dr. Charron's speaks volumes. Dr. Brock's office promised me that they had verified with my insurance company the portion of my service I was expected to pay, which I paid up front. Then they sent me an additional bill and when I called about it, they told me that they had not made any promises about my portion of the bill. I think it's unethical to mislead patients by telling them they are paid in full and then billing an additional sum. I recommend avoiding this practice and going to somewhere else that is more honest about what they plan to charge you. read more

Recently moved to Portland and had to find a new dentist. We have a 4yr old and I wanted to make sure the dentist was well versed on the mouths of littles. Found out through our insurance carrier that Dr. Brock/Smiles on Belmont accepted our insurance and that they are located nearby. They had an opening to see my daughter and me at the same time. Was a little nervous about how this would work but my 4yr old felt very comfortable with the staff and we were put in neighboring rooms so my daughter and I could talk to each other. This visit was awesome... Kind of surreal really. They are all so kind, comprehensive and honest. And at the end, they gave my daughter some fun things and flowers for me. Well my first review was extremely positive an to be honest I was satisfied with the place considering I literally just picked it from some ads online. Well initially I went in to get a cavity filled that was bothering me, and they gave me a paper with all the things I needed to have done so we just started going down the list meanwhile my tooth stopped hurting. coupes weeks later it really started to bother me again and I made another appointment specifically for that. I went in an explained that the tooth was bothering me an apparently when I was finished he told me we did a different cavity I had I said well that One wasn't bothering me. Needless to say it's been months and I've moved an im having the worst toothache of my life and it's the weekend. I, like Katie A. also was told that my out of pocket for a scaling would be 198.00. Not only told, but given a written estimate. after which I was billed 957.00 for. I was Later told By Bobbie that it was my responsibility to talk to the insurance myself, and they were not responsible. The insurance told me that I was capped out for the year, and Had I known I could have waited a couple months,and it would have been covered. I foolishly expected them to be pro active for me and my insurance coverage. I stayed with them, because the care was good, but the billing issues continued. It was my first visit, the entire staff was ridiculously friendly for an early morning appointment (7am - woohoo!), and I felt like the care I received was top notch!
