I love Smith Furriers. I have been storing my mink there for many many years. There is always a greeting that makes you feel like part of the family. I purchased a coat from Smith and now store both. When my coats need mending, they show me the problems and fix it beautifully. The storage fees are reasonable. My coats both are holding up great because of Smith Furriers. We are very, very disappointed with the service at Smith Furriers located at 9700 Southwest Highway Oak Lawn, IL 60453 and would not recommend them to anyone. Nick K. the owner LIED about cleaning and glazing my mink coat. I paid to have my coat re-styled; at first he was nice and helpful as he explained how he would make the changes. Mr. Nick K. called me to come in for the fitting after the coat was done. I tried the coat on when I took the coat off the mink was all over me, front and back. Mr. Nick K saw it and said, "It was on you when you came." I told him the mink was not on my clothes when I came and we did not have a cat or a dog. Then Mr. Nick K. was condescending that the coat/pelts were old and said he did clean and glaze the coat and the lining. We picked the coat up the following year because it was not ready and the same thing, the mink was again all over my clothes. He's a very, very fast talker...I asked, did you glaze and clean my coat and the lining he lied and said yes, I could have cried . When my husband and I left Mr. Nick K. could see I was disappointed. I knew I could not wear the coat anywhere. We took it to another furrier they cleaned and glazed my entire coat plus the lining and all the shedding stopped. After searching high and low all over the greater Chicago area for a place that would help me re-style my grandmothers fur coat (for a reasonable price), I am so happy I found Smith Furs. I just picked up the finished product yesterday and I could not be happier! From the beginning, they worked with me to decide what changes I would make and what would work and look good. They were spot on with the direction. They truly understood that this was my grandmothers coat and it was sentimental to me so they tried to find ways to incorporate her into the re-style. It was finished in a much shorter time frame than other places I looked at. Only took 3.5 weeks. They also cleaned it twice in the process. I was a customer for over 15 years, and i called in to let Nick know that i would be picking up my Swing Beaver. Unfortunately, I had death in my family and i didnt pick my fur, not thinking that my fur would be sold. Nick promised me that he would never sell his customers furs without notifying them. So, unprofessional and no loyalty! I see why he downsized! I miss the original owner Mr. Smith...RIP read more
