Finally made it out to Smith St after a friend told me it was their favorite local spot. I'm definitely a fan of this place and all that's going on. Interior is your typical bagel/deli with a bright clean interior. The line was long but moved very fast. A few 4 tables inside and outside as well. Food: Classic lox - 5/5 - was a good balanced meal. Not a ton of smoked salmon but that helped with the balance of flavors from the other toppings. The bagel was crispy but not burnt and not overbearing. I'll be back to try some more adventurous things next time I'm around, which will be often. read more

This place was busy when I went. The shop has a modern feel to it. However, that is not to mention that the bagels are not good. They are big, although some of them are formed in a weird shape. It's in a quaint neighborhood, so you can take a walk around to explore the area as well, as you wait for your order, and there is a Trader Joe's nearby. I highly recommend the everything bagel, it costs the same as the other bagels here, but is oh so much better than a plain bagel. It has the right amount of salty sweet balance and I highly recommend you cut it in half and toast it lightly. Unless you're allergic to one of the ingredients of course. read more

This establishment is amazingly well run. The staff here is so welcoming and you can tell the food is made with great care. I was greeted by Francis when I walked in and was treated with so much care and respect. She was really nice and treated other customers all with the same kind and friendly manners. Smith St Bagels is a great bagel shop. I've tried many of the items they offer for breakfast and lunch. I've had some of the Breakfast Sandwich options they have, and also have gotten various bagels with different types of cream cheese. Stuff can get a little messy sometimes, but I always say messy food is the best food. I usually come here when I'm in the neighborhood for work and I am always pleased with the food. The staff is great and I think they offer so many different things for being just a bagel shop. They have burgers, quesadillas, and sandwiches. A variety of spreads and lox. They have fresh juices and healthy salads, and smoothies. They even have a little section with some pastry's. The staff is great and friendly and they are usually quick to get my order done. Great bagels but iffy service. So close to knocking off a star for their chaotic kitchen, but alas...the bagels here are just too good!! My first trip here was pretty daunting - with so many unlabeled bagel and cream cheese options, how does one know what to pick here? The shop was completely packed for the morning rush and my server was in no mood to explain the offerings. As a result, I decided to just order the Brooklyn Lover from the menu (lox, cream cheese, dill, avocado, cucumber, tomato, lemon juice) and promised myself to come back at a less busy time to explore all their options. Once I got my order, I found that it was a Mocha Special instead (lox, cream cheese, tomato, onion, capers). I quickly asked to fix it, and it took 10 minutes for someone to finally go back and remake my bagel. The whole process seemed confused - there was lots of yelling across the restaurant. Even the cashier felt uncomfortable and apologized a few times. But FINALLY, when the food came...the bagel really was delicious! The bagel was perfectly toasted, the lox and cream cheese combo was a match made in heaven, and there was a generous serving of creamy avocado smack dab in the middle. A lox bagel seriously can't get better than that. My friend ordered the french toast bagel (slightly sweet bagel with a touch of cinnamon) with guacamole cream cheese - this was an interesting combination of sweet and savory, but was really unique and surprisingly tasty. Overall, I really liked this local bagel shop for all their fun and interesting bagel and cream cheese options, their fresh ingredients, and the reasonable prices. Okay, tried this place twice. Food is good but cashier attitude seems off. They screwed up one of our orders on a busy Sunday morning. Certainly we are patient and don't mind, but when my friend went to check on the order status because two of three orders were done the cashier got a little snippy. So we waited another 10 minutes. Order totally lost and redone. I tried again the next day, felt like I got a bit of an attitude for asking for more napkins. YUM! This place was overall my favorite bagel shop in NYC. I ordered a very safe but classic everything bagel with plain cream cheese but it did not disappoint! The cream cheese was almost fluffy, it was soft, the perfect texture. They had a variety of pastries and food items to choose from and they were super inexpensive. I paid less than $3 for my bagel and it was a great size, super filling, and held me over before heading out to dinner later that night. I think this may be a given in the city but bring cash!!! Smith St Bagels is definitely a solid 4 stars but personally I feel like for their price points their bagels are a tad underwhelming compared to other bagel spots I frequent. First, we went on a Saturday morning just after 11am. Luckily I placed an online order because I was not sure how bad the lines were going to be and I was so glad I did. The lines were wrapped around the store, though it's not a big space to begin with. There were also a bunch of delivery folks who were hovering around the cashier area waiting to pick up their orders so it definitely felt a tad chaotic in the store. Got my order with just 2-3 minutes of waiting to get the cashiers attention Second, we ordered two breakfast sandwiches- an everything bagel with two eggs and an everything bagel with bacon egg and cheese. The total came out to be over $10- is that normal? I can't remember but in my local bagel spots I do not think I've paid over $10 for the same two orders. Anywho, for the sake of trying a new spot, I didnt mind. Overall, the bagels are fine, nothing stellar but it was not bad either. Though I must say, my husband was a little thrown off by the size of his bacon egg and cheese sandwich. I promised my team I would get them NY bagels for breakfast and this place was the closest bagel place near my hotel. Who knew New York Bagels were so hard to find! I didn't know what I was expecting but definitely not the line that was out the door ...just for bagels. They actually moved pretty fast and if you didn't have your order ready they tried to be patient. I was definitely a newbie at ordering at a bagel place that was just used to moving so fast! I ordered ten different bagels and my team and I were amazed at how fresh they were. The calories were definitely worth it! I had two bagels, both FLAT bagels which I never knew existed, one with jalapeño cream cheese and the other with lox cream cheese for those who did not want a whole mouthful of fish... They were great! I would definitely come back to this place if I was ever in Brooklyn. I gave it four stars because of the wait I had and confusion in my order but that could really have been on me. I've stayed near this area the last few times I've visited NYC and thus Smith St Bagels is typically my go-to. It's one of the few bagel places in the area that offers an Egg Everything bagel, which is my personal favorite. However, they don't often have too many of them, and sometimes they might not have them at all. (I've gone so far to ask as when they might come in...but have sometimes been disappointed.) I usually get the toasted Egg Sausage w/ Cheddar and it's a great size for me and cooked well. Bagels, when fresh, are nice and soft and chewy. I also sometimes get a toasted Sesame w/ apple cinnamon cream cheese, and love the large, actual chunks of apple(!) that come with the cream cheese. Service is also always fast and speedy for me. Only minus a star because the bagels aren't necessarily as big as some other bagel spots in NYC. Also, of note, the place is no longer 24/7 as it used to be :( read more

This morning I ordered an everything bagel with vegan scallion tofu scream cheese and lox. Smith Street had several vegan offerings including scallion and plain tofu cream cheese for no additional charge, vegan cheese, and an entire vegan pizza bagel menu. The amount of lox was light compared to other places in the city and the cucumbers didn't seem like they were sliced fresh for my order, but overall it was a decent bagel and didn't fall apart when I ate it on my flight - which is a pretty big win. read more

Been in the area a long time. They are the only spot now that's open late that makes their own bagels. CAN'T understate how big that is when u need it. And the bagels are very good. Not too doughy like some places now make em!
