I was impressed with this bagel spot. I got the everything bagel with scallion spread and added tomatoes. The bagel itself had a very good consistency, not too thick not too thin. Spread, perfect amount as well (aka a good layer without being excessive). A little on the pricey side but I'll be back!

    Gravlax Bagel Sandwich

Truly one of the best bagel sandwiches I've had in the city, I tried the gravlax bagel which had cucumber dill cream cheese and all the works (and even some arugula, which was a nice touch). Definitely not for the faint of heart--you'd have to be a lox superfan to enjoy all that dill but luckily that's exactly what I'm looking for. It wasn't too densely packed (too much lox is a big fault of these sandwiches typically) and the bagel was not too chewy and nicely toasted. The gravlax was so delicate and flavorful, not too thick or rubbery as normal lox can sometimes be. I usually get bagel fatigue once I start my second half but this I polished off completely in one sitting. We got takeout to bring to the beach and the sandwiches held up well over the journey, I also got an extra BEC bagel for the next day and it was very solid, nothing out of the ordinary. But for me, it's gotta be the gravlax and I'll be back no question.

Closeby bagel shop in new nbhd. It is not the most amazing bagel ever but i will prob find myself here again. The texture is more dense and almost montreal style than my personal preference. But the scallion tofu cream cheese is delish! And the people are very kind

    Lox Deluxe Sandwich ($12.79)

It's not bad but also not the best I have ever had. My 4 stars is generous for what it's worth but I do think I have had better lox bagels around New York. I got the everything bagel lox deluxe ($12.79) and it was decent. There was a bit of a line when I came here around 12:30pm but it was moving fairly quickly. They have a big selection of other bagels and I think I would come back here to try the other bagels if I am nearby.

Good bagels though bad service. I went on a Saturday morning and the line was long. There's something odd about the way they take orders and then call your name as half the folks didn't know that their orders were called. Perhaps just take people's names instead? The bagel itself was tasty - I got the egg and cheese with a whole wheat everything and it hit the spot.

I got the Lox Deluxe on Everything - it was an alright sandwich. The bagel itself was a bit lacking in flavor, the lox was good but I don't think enough was put into the sandwich. Overall, a passable lox bagel, but I think there are some areas for improvement.

While waiting to attend a baby birthday party at nearby Fort Greene Park, we stopped by here to grab a quick breakfast. This quiet neighborhood has gradually morphed into sort of a restaurant row, with eateries springing up along both sides of DeKalb. This bustling bagel place felt comfy and welcoming. Chairs set up outside the restaurant window facing DeKalb allowed customers to people watch while enjoying their food. The latte was good but the cinnamon roll very dry. The standout was the freshly-made omelette with cheese and sausage: hot, delicious and satisfyingly filling.

Their everything-pumpernickel is excellent. Big, fluffy, and full of pump-flavor! Add a little cream cheese and it's the perfect NYC bagel.

As far as the customer service goes I wish it was a bit better. The staff aren't the most pleasant. No good morning no acknowledgement of comprehending what you order they just walk away and start the order. Which is why I double check always. I do notice they speak more pleasantly to other customers that come in. Not sure if it's a culture thing or could they be discriminatory but it's a bit unsettling. Food: 3.8/5 I only order the poppy seed bagel and that's pretty tasty. Not to doughy although I do have them take out a good portion of the bread because I like it to be extremely thin. If you are in the neighborhood, you should pop in and buy something to show your respect. What you should buy is the herring. And specifically, if you happen to be lucky enough to stroll in during Holland Herring season in June/July, that is the herring to get. Even if you just had a giant meat based meal a couple doors down, you can still make room for one herring. Consider it the Jewish equivalent of surf and turf. Although one of my friends said visiting both LES icons was more akin to a "bang bang". Sometimes it's the small shops that make the biggest mark. This is certainly the case with R&D. The place is tiny, but the fish is mighty. I can't speak highly enough about the Holland Herring. So silky. So delicate. So much fun to eat. Held up by the tail, dragged through a mix of chopped onions and pickles, and lowered down into your awaiting mouth. These things are large. They are going to take a few good sized bites. Enjoy the contrast of textures and flavors. Tilting your head back to eat it almost demands that you close your eyes and savor every moment. Yes, the entire herring case is a marvel. While most folks will walk out of R&D with nova (what most people call lox, but is really cold smoked salmon), the real score is the sable and sturgeon. Or, if you are a salt lover, you can get legitimate belly lox here too. It satisfies the soul to see an appetizing store holding the line. Sure, you can put your smoked fish on a bagel or bialy with cream cheese. However, I submit that fish this good should really be enjoyed in its purest form. Maybe if you want to cut the salt, lay some on a thin piece of old world 100% rye bread. Not the squishy deli stuff, but the hard eastern European kind. Perhaps a dolop of sour cream. A few chives if feeling fancy. My old cantor used to love creamed herring with pickled onions on chunks of challah. If you go the herring route and it's not Holland Herring season, I fully endorse this approach. But don't sleep on the Holland Herring. Get one. Eat it on the bench outside or bring it across the street and eat it standing up in the park. I heard rumor that once upon a time folks would eat them right at the counter. That seems a little messy for my taste, but far be it from me to keep a herring lover from their delightful fishy morsels.

They clearly prioritize hygiene here. The interior is so spotless that it is pitiful!…read more On 6/20/26, I purchased food that I cannot get anywhere else: smoked trout mousse (relatively low in sodium), authentic pumpernickel bread (recommended for its comparatively low glycemic index), and in-house smoked Gaspe smoked salmon (relatively low in sodium). Everything tasted phenomenally good. Miguel had given me samples of some food so I could make a decision about what to purchase. This place is not the cheapest, but you're paying for top quality.
