We had a weeknight dinner here the other day. Our server was Vickie (sp?), and she was awesome! She recommended the hibiscus margarita - great choice! Mine had a tajin rim!! We had the wings with the Chef Eddie's sauce on the side. We split a pear and strawberry salad which also had pecans and blue cheese. I don't recall the vinaigrette but it worked well with the salad. We added a chicken breast for extra protein. For my meal, I had the Norfolk combo with the veggie of the day (succotash). The combo consists of sautéed scallops, shrimp, and lump crabmeat in a buttery sauce. It was excellent! My husband had the NY strip off the new elevated menu. He got the brussel sprouts and sweet potato fries. I forgot to take a picture of the fries, but they were good and hot! He said the strip was very good also. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Had high hopes but sadly the food fell short! The highlights of the restaurant were the waterfront dining and the friendliness of the waitress and the trainee. My husband and I thought the appetizer sampler sounded good and would give us a good idea of their food. The crab cakes with the wonton was not good and the crab dip hardly had any crab in it. The ham biscuits were okay and really the only dish that was as good was the bang bang shrimp. Smithfield Station has always been a staple in Smithfield, Virginia. I grew up coming here with family. I was back in town for Easter weekend and stopped by Monday evening to catch up with a friend. We arrived around 5 PM, and the bar was already starting to fill up. The bartender was friendly and attentive, but as it got more crowded, it was clear she could've used some extra help. We started with the crab dip, which was fresh, hot, and really tasty. I hadn't been in a while, so I was surprised by how extensive the menu is now. I ended up ordering the smashed burger--it was flavorful, with quality beef on fresh bread, topped with bacon and onions. My only note is that I wish they had asked how I wanted it cooked--medium well would've been perfect. My friend ordered the Philly and said it was good as well. Both portions were generous, and by the time we left, the place was getting pretty busy, though it never felt too loud or overwhelming. I have to admit I was there for a free dinner that came along with an estate planning seminar. I asked for my steak to be medium, more rare than medium. Everything else was lovely. They did offer to replace it, but it was so late in the evening, I should've gotten it to go, but just look at the picture, this was their idea of a medium rare steak. We had lunch at Smithfield Station and we were very disappointed. The service was slow and the food was bland, almost inedible. After 15 minutes at our table, I had to find a waiter to get us started with drinks. The chicken dish was salty with a watery, tasteless sauce. The pear salad consisted of pears that were too hard to cut let alone eat. And to top it all off, the prices were very high. Smithfield Station needs to reconsider their priorities. It's a beautiful restaurant with great outdoor seating. We don't want to see this place close but if they don't improve their food, closure seems inevitable. read more

Went there for Father's Day it took close to 45 minutes to get our food. I ordered the seafood platter broiled full size. When it came there was 3 scallops about the size of a quarter and a 1/2 " thick 3 small shrimp and a piece of flounder half the size of your hand. That was $34 and to top It off the food was cold. No flavor they sprinkled old day seasoning on. It was horrible. Didn't complain. Just won't eat there again. read more

We visited Smithfield Station for their Sunday brunch, and overall, it was a great way to spend a Sunday morning after Church by the water. The setting is beautiful right on the river. Very friendly, attentive staff who really made us feel welcome. The buffet was well-stocked and kept fresh. Highlights for me were the made-to-order omelet station (the crab, shrimp and fresh veggies combo was excellent), crispy bacon, grits, and those signature Smithfield ham biscuit are delicious. They also feature waffles with fruit toppings. One of my favorite places for brunch on Sunday and dinner any day of the week. read more

I got the seafood sampler($34) and it came with fried fish, 4 scallops, 3 shrimp, 1 crab cake, and a side of veggies. The fish had a good fried layer while retaining its moistness. The scallops and shrimp were great! Crab cake had good seasoning and fairly good amount of crab meat. The hush puppies were a bit of a letdown, they were quite dry. Had a wonderful time and this beautiful restaurant overlooking the waterfront. Our server told us that she was new but you couldn't tell. She was great! Our food was wonderful! The crab cake was my favorite part of the seafood platter. I ordered the full version and I could hardly finish. I'm not sure what the half order had on it but I was really happy with ordering the full version. The soup was very flavorful and good but probably not something I'd remember ever ordering. This is a beautiful spot with a beautiful view in the evening. I loved the ambience as well. Unfortunately, the food taste did not match. My family nor myself are picky eaters, but most of us were not impressed by the seafood at all! It lacked so much flavor. We ordered the crab dip, burnt ends, and bang bang shrimp. The only notable thing was the shrimp. I personally have the crab cake sandwich. I took one bite and that was it for me. My mother order the rib and fries basket, she enjoyed it. My other family members ordered pasta dishes (bland). Our server was the absolute sweetest and very welcoming! Unfortunately, the owner/manager didn't even speak to us. I visited Smithfield Station for lunch on a Monday afternoon with my family. We chose to sit outside, where the atmosphere was lovely and peaceful. The menu offered a fantastic variety of options, making it hard to choose just one dish. Fortunately, our server, Juliana, was incredibly helpful in recommending the most popular and flavorful choices. We started with the shrimp hush puppies, which exceeded our expectations. The subtle kick from the jalapeños paired beautifully with the sweet butter they were served with. For my meal, I ordered the crab soup and Oyster Rockefeller. The crab soup was the best I've ever had--rich, creamy, and perfectly seasoned, with just the right amount of crab. The Oyster Rockefeller was phenomenal, prepared with a luscious blend of cream, spinach, and cheese that elevated the dish to a new level. My husband chose the calabash shrimp with fries and hush puppies, and he thoroughly enjoyed the seasoning and how well the shrimp were cooked. Came for Sunday lunch with a group of friends. We got there early afternoon so it wasn't too crowded. We were seated quickly and the service was good. A few of us got the restaurant week specials. I got the crab cake eggroll, miso salmon and bread pudding. The egg roll had fresh crab meat in it. The salmon was cooked great and a nice portion. The bread pudding was yummy, I took it to go. I also tried one of their cocktails which was tasty. Definitely want to go back for their Sunday brunch buffet. read more

Though a native of Smithfield it's been a solid 25 years since I've been to Smithfield Station. Frequented by tourists and the so called in-crowd, the "Station" missed the mark for lunch today. It will more than likely be another 25 years before I give them another shot. The breakdown Service: 2.0- Extremely rude and irritable hostess. Rolling eyes, talking under her breathe, confrontational attitude. Tabletop was literally leaning at a 35 degree angle and asking to get it fixed was apparently completely appalling. I get it, it's father day and busy, but it's not that serious. Server was kind and adequate (3.0)--nothing special. Never was offered a drink refill, had to ask for dishes to eat on, & order came out wrong. Food: 3.0 - Just okay. A sirloin steak appetizer with 7 pieces of flank steak with teriyaki sauce served with droopy onion straws for $16, 2 fried shrimp platters, a crab cake platter, a frozen cocktail and ice tea--tax & tip was $167 Fries with platters were soggy and cold and looked like they were the bottom of the baggers--just little pieces of soggy fried French fries Never got the hush puppies that were supposed to come with our meals and the coleslaw was completely inedible-one bite and it was a hard pass. The fried shrimp and crabcakes took an otherwise 1.5 star meal to a 3. Food just okay, one item was served barely warm from the kitchen. When asked to please have the item warmer, it was like why? No offer had to ask. It took 15 minutes to receive back to table, then overcooked. I think that might have been the servers fault, not the kitchen staff. Her name is Camyrn. Service was less than mediocre at best. We had to ask for everything. Server lacked not only in service provided, but attitude towards our asking for "things" most people would request, like a refill for our drinks. Beautiful scenery especially at sunrise and sunset! Go via boat if you can. The marina was super accommodating, the young dock attendant greeted us on arrival and tied us up! We stayed in the lighthouse for two nights, the upstairs lighthouse room is very ordinate and nautical and the views from the room are incredible. The TV did not work and they had no replacement and the Wi-Fi signal is weak at best. Due to this weekend being the hottest weekend on record, the AC unit struggled to keep up during the day, but was sufficient for a comfortable night sleep. The food at the restaurant was impressive. Every meal we ate, exceeded our expectations. The bartenders and serving staff were super friendly and accommodating. Smithfield Station does not have a store or small shop which would've been super convenient. Overall, we give this place two thumbs up and look forward to our next adventure here. read more

Wow! I have heard people say how good this place is, but have never gone. We stumbled up on it when the place we were going was too crowded. We were not disappointed! The atmosphere is very inviting when you walk in. It is a beautiful restaurant! There is seating outside that is right behind the boat docks. Next time we will eat outside. Kaitlyn was an amazing server. She was super friendly and very attentive. The food was amazing. I wish I'd gotten pics, but didn't. My husband had the broiled seafood platter. He said it was really good. It was a little pricey, and to add a salad in place of a veggie was $4.95, which is a bit much. The salad was pretty big and very fresh though. I had the chicken tender basket with fries and slaw. I couldn't even eat half of it! The chicken was so tender, and lightly breaded. Probably the best tenders I have had. The fries were a little soggy, having been served under the tenders, but they were lightly breaded and good. The honey mustard and ranch were great! Coleslaw was very tasty! The menu is almost all seafood, which I do not care for, but they do have steaks and salads. Next time I will try the hamburger. I'm sure it will be good! read more

Worst experience to date. First of all let me start off by saying it has been a long time since we have visited, and it seemed like no one was running the establishment. I did notice that the restaurant is now being run by a different company, and you no longer have the down home hospitality feel. We arrived at 6 P.M. and the restaurant was literally empty, so you would think things would be seamless. WRONG!!!! Our server Kay came over to greet us, and we felt somewhat rushed and uneasy. After sometime reading the menu, we placed our orders and were ready to enjoy our evening with family from out of state. The food arrived and that is where it all went south. I ordered Calabash scallops and was served Calabash oysters, she checked the order and quickly said she accidentally hit the wrong button on the computer. She did check with all the other meals, and acknowledged what was needed. She finally arrived with my meal, and it did not look cooked. I cut the first one in half, and the center was cold. She still had not brought any of the lemons requested when the meals were delivered, and everyone ordered fish! There either was no one expediting in the kitchen, or they just don't care anymore. So I ended up taking my scallops home, and decided I would COOK them myself and enjoy them today. So, we were still enjoying our company, and decided to have dessert. You would think that would be safe, wrong. We ordered Crème Brûlée and Lava Cake, and we got Crème Brûlée and hot fudge cake. We were done at this time, and were ready to go. She never came over to ask how the checks were being done, and just assumed. She finally came back with 1 check, and against my better judgment-I did tip her generously. The food overall was okay, but the Oyster Rockefeller was extremely disappointing. The size of oysters and filling was minimal, also they were not freshly cooked. This has always been one of our constant go to places, because they were always consistent and minutes from home. Will really think again, before we dine there again. read more

Beautiful location and overall nice restaurant. It sits on the water and is attached to an inn. There is a parking lot right there and additional parking across the street. Once we were seated, our service was a little slow. It got better but still wasn't great. The restaurant is spacious and I can imagine it being a great experience with warm weather, sitting outside on the water. There is also a bar area with a few televisions. We started with the hush puppies as the appetizer and they were good! I had a Pain Killer on the rocks and it was strong! Very generous with the alcohol. I had the seafood quesadilla and my husband had the Royal Crowned Shrimp. My quesadilla was good but kinda lacked flavor. The Royal Crowned Shrimp is VERY heavily breaded. Like ALOT! My husband actually took all of the breading off. Will we go back, YEP! The menu is pretty extensive so there were definitely some other items I would like to try. Outside the restaurant was the best experience because of the great smell, made me hungry. The dining experience was a different matter, orders were messed up , food items missing and the food was not worth the prices. The hotel had several terrible issues. The sheets were very basic cotton and made your body difficult to move in bed. The television never worked and according to other guest theirs were not working either, weak internet. For the high price of room you should expect a nicer breakfast. Room was a basic room that represents a much cheaper hotel. Not enough towels if you have women in the room. This place is charging for the location and everything else is subpar. It was clean but dated. I have stayed at many chain hotels in nice areas that are cheaper and give more bang for the buck like full free breakfast. They offered breakfast on Sunday morning for $21 a person. I'm sad to say that this was the worst experience I've EVER had at the Station. I ordered an appetizer, waited 30 minutes before they told me that they sold out. Ordered She Crab soup that came 20 min later the consistency of chicken noodle soup and tasted only like SALT! I literally couldn't eat it. I ordered something else and had to get it to go since my family had finished eating. We were going to get dessert and we asked for a dessert menu but no one ever came to take our order so we decided to leave. It looks like five or six restaurants may have the ownership under water. Two were done very well and now at five or six, mediocracy. That's honestly sad for Smithfield. read more

Came here for lunch on a rainy Saturday. Restaurant was pretty empty so we were seated right away. Service and food were both perfect. We started off the bacon wrapped scallops. Bacon was crispy and scallops were perfectly cooked, not overdone like some are. The crab soup was probably one of my favorite. There were plenty of crab meat in the soup. I had the shrimp tacos for an entree. They were good but nothing to rave about. Portions were very big. My husband for the flounder sandwich and he said it was very well seasoned and was way bigger then a flounder sandwich you would get anywhere else. Even the kids spaghetti was a decent portion. My daughter ate the left overs for dinner. Despite the staffing shortage, service was great. Our server was quick, food came out quick and she came and checked up on his frequently. First off, service was good. 8/10 Ambiance for dinner was giving Luby's cafeteria. Somewhere your grandmother would take u for your 12th Birthday. 3/10 The food, sooo many things.....platting was non existent. I had a Ribeye (looked like it was bought from Walmart) with a cup of butter beans put on a plate. It looked tired, no excitement. My wife got a seafood platter (deep fried), it was super soft and spongy. So bad she couldn't eat it. Drinks we had were good. Very heavy handed. I think it was the only thing that kept the food from being a 0/10. 1/10 Once we left we went right to McDonald's. I've never eaten somewhere that was so bad I had to go get fast food afterwards. After saying all that I will say the outdoor seating looked amazing. Very picturesque. They do Brunch and I might go back to sit on the back deck to enjoy a mimosa- but will not be eating any of the food that tasted like it was prepared by a tired sweaty Denny's line cook. read more
