I really tried to give this spot a chance…read more Overall, the hotel is great. The harvest Café is very reasonable. The pitchers sports bar is just disappointing on all fronts. On our first night, a Friday night, we arrived at the hotel with 45 minutes until the bar closed. Getting drinks was difficult, but it was near the end of the shift and, so I didn't think much of it. Luckily we had brought a few beverages with us and we went to our rooms and had a few drinks after 11 PM. As a sidenote, 11 PM is an oddly early time to close a hotel bar. On the second night, we arrived almost 2 hours before bar/kitchen close to have dinner and drinks. Nothing went well. Our server would disappear for extended periods of time... Presumably to bus food from the very distant kitchen to the bar. If the bartenders are going to double as Servers/bussers, then they should have more than two working a busy Saturday night. Eventually, a manager showed up to help for a few minutes, but he quickly left again. I had to actively flag down the other bartender to assist us at one point when our bartender was gone for an extended period of time. Even that took more effort than it should. If you only have two bartenders, and you know you're going to each be gone for long periods of time, then you should cover each other and check in on other guests. On top of that, our food took way too long to come out. We didn't get anything complicated, and the place was not that busy. The kitchen is clearly just slow. Eventually, our food arrived. It was decently prepared overall, but our friend ordered the beyond burger and made it clear that she was vegan and did not want cheese or dairy or mayonnaise. Despite this arrived with mayonnaise on it so she had to eat it with half the bun removed. The bartender eventually noticed, but at that point we were starving and she was already eating it so his kind offered to have them remake it didn't really help. The most concerning aspect was what happened to me the next day. I got the Caesar salad with the crabcake added. It had clearly gone bad. I had diarrhea for 36 hours afterwards. The only thing I had eaten earlier in the day was food at Busch Gardens, that I shared with others. No one else got sick so it had to be the crabcake. I guess it could've been the Caesar dressing, but that was for sure out of a bottle and less likely to be the source. And either case food poisoning During the drive on Sunday was not fun. I was still dealing with it by Monday morning as well. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because the bartender was nice despite being overwhelmed, and he took 20% off of our bill because of the mistake made and the long wait. Eat somewhere else if you have any choice. The only reason to eat here is if Everything else has closed or you're just too tired to leave the hotel.

Now, I must say, the french fries are great!!! Theyre spirally and fresh tasting. I wasn't a fan of anything else. The "soft" pretzels were hard as all get out to the point it hurt my teeth to bite into them. Shame too because the flavor of them were good. Drinks were really good too, and the bartenders are willing to make any drink you ask. The best part of the meal... Our waiter, PEYTON! He is Truly remarkable, appreciative, down to earth, willing to help, and friendly. He even joked along with us. :) One of the BEST waiters I have ever met! Thank you, Peyton! The only reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is because of the food.

My sister mentioned that her drink was very weak, which was disappointing. For food, I ordered the boneless buffalo wings, and my sister had the bang bang shrimp and loaded fries. Everything was decent, but nothing really stood out or made us want to come back for more. It wasn't a bad experience, but it also wasn't anything to brag about. Honestly, I'd be perfectly fine not going back.

The waiter was quick and attentive on putting in our drinks and appetizers/food to be made as soon as we sat down. Noticed that the menus for food and drinks looked different since my last time visiting, which was interesting. I started with their Honey barbecue boneless wings (10/10), they were cooked with a little crisp to the skin and the flavor was actually really good. Also had the Bacon cheese fries (7/10), I love when food comes out fresh and melty, but these came out as if they sat for a minute with the cheese already congealed and stuck to the paper. For drinks, I tried their Strawberry passion daiquirita and Life's a peach, both fell short on flavor (as far as what the menu stated what they were made compared to how they came out tasting) for me (5/10). I was def disappointed in my drinks for the night. I do see myself going back, but I just hope the next time the drinks are better. My overall rate of experience : 7.3/10

I felt comfortable and engrossed in conversation with the staff and other patrons in a way that had me coming back the next night for dinner again. All too often, the sports-pub vibe will let you down, but this place takes each item on its menu seriously and cares considerably about what they're plating in front of you. It makes me feel like something special is happening in that kitchen like the show "The Bear." If the bartenders ask you if you want the potato salad as your side because it's made in house, then trust him. He's telling you this for a reason because you're about to embark on a culinary experience of a lifetime. What I assume is typically a college bar, this place is quite a wonderful little find. Mind you, I happened to come through on two evenings during the summer holidays so maybe the vibe is different in October but I can't recommend it more based on my experience.

Maybe it was an off day, I don't know, but I think I finally found the worst pizza I've ever tried…read more I see some of the reviews say great pizza and some say soggy pizza. I came in for lunch today with 2 teenagers. We ordered a large cheese pizza. Not one of us ate a 2nd piece. The cheese and sauce were both pretty flavorless but the crust was really weird; like eating a double layer of cardboard. The bottom of the crust was pretty well-cooked, almost burnt, so maybe that's why. It was tough and flavorless. Not at all like any other brick- fired pizza I've had. Would not recommend.

I actually met one of the owners while shopping at Games Farmers Market in Newport News. She spoke so passionately about her restaurant being a soul food spot that I knew I had to try it. I went within the week, and they don't open until after 3 p.m. (I believe they stay open until 1 or 2 in the morning). They even have extra parking across the street, which is nice. I went in by myself, and they told me I could sit wherever I wanted. Since I was one of the first people in there that day, the bartender/waitress greeted me with so much kindness. She went over some of the specials, and I ended up ordering the Rasta Pasta along with a drink--a Pineapple Upside Down (tea or lemonade, I can't quite remember). Whatever it was, it was delicioso. That drink was a 10/10--I'd go back just for that! When the pasta came out, it was served with garlic toast, and I also ordered some macaroni and cheese. The pasta was flavorful, and honestly, I've been thinking about going back for it again. The mac and cheese wasn't my favorite, but to be fair, I prefer baked, homemade macaroni & cheese--so that's just me, but it was good. While I was there, I chatted with several of the owners and the cook, and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I even learned one of the owners is a veteran. The restaurant has a sports bar vibe, with TVs everywhere, music playing, and a DJ--it's lively, clean, and has a great atmosphere. I really love the vibe, the people, and how comfortable they made me feel. I'll definitely be back. If you're looking for good food, good people, and a good atmosphere, I'd say give George's a try--you might end up loving it like I did.
