Brunswick Stew
Janelle T.

I have limited experience with this restaurant but I wanted to give it a review based off of the great customer service I experienced. Was at a hotel down the road and saw that they offered Brunswick Stew, so decided to quickly stop for some to take back to VA. Girl working the front taking orders was super attentive, friendly and knowing that I have never been asked if I liked vinegar and gave me a few vinegar based BBQ sauces to also take home and try with French fries. The Brunswick stew I took home was delicious! If my drive wasn't so long I'd probably have gotten some hush puppies to eat with it. Place was clean inside and open very early - 10am!

So called shrimp platter

100 times better than Kentucky Fried chicken. Full size chicken pieces that are crispy and juicy for a good price.

What's not to love? Good bbq, good hush puppies and Brunswick stew. Everything tastes like a hearty, home cooked meal.

Decent service, fair pricing and convenient locations. Unfortunately the BBQ is just not very good.

A classic repast to or from the beach. Yummy sweet tea. Get the barbeque sandwich with slaw.

This was for a two meat combo with a drink. Seems very pricey for lunch. I watched order come out wrong before I got my order that was wrong as well. It was simple stuff, but still not that busy. Mine was a very simple order fatty brisket, smoked sausage, hush puppies and okra. I wound up with cornbread rather than hush puppies. The brisket was definitely not fatty. It was pretty much the opposite so it had no moisture. I don't know what's happened to the attention to detail On the counter where you pick your food up, there were about 20 single serve containers set on a tray that someone was filling would looked like ranch out of a gallon jug. This was left wide open for someone to sneeze, cough or anything else into as you were reaching over to grab your food. Every one of the single use containers was wide open. No tables were cleaned off when customers left. I have not eaten here in a while and will probably not be back anytime soon.

Meat is sold by the pound here. 1/4 pound don't sound like much but fills an average person up nicely. If yer like me, n want leftovers for late-night tv watchin', or t'take to work for lunch t'marra, go ahead n order a half pound. I ordered brisket, which was so tender it fell apart on my fork, n sausage, which was already cut in slices for me but dripping juice anyway. (They serve it right here, too, obviously). You git yer choice of their house sawses. Their Grand Champion Sawse, which is a smoky-tangy-sweet, or Competition Sawse, which is "tangy-sweet w/a little heat" (I didn't find it "hot" but I'm used t'eatin' jalapenos) or the North Carolina Sawse, which is yer Tarheel Vinegar style. They're all good, and I et a bit o each, but the Competition Sawse is prolly my fave. The food is very reasonably priced, especially for bbq, and you won't spend n arm n a leg if'n ya eat here. We love their vittles, n plan t'ask 'em about catering our anniversary party t'add a touch o class t'the occasion. Recommend highly!!!

Exceptional food AND service!!!…read more The Redneck BBQ Lab is conveniently located right off of I-40 and is a great place to stop in for a great meal. If you are traveling (or just need fuel) you can fill up at the fuel pumps while grabbing a bite to eat, as this restaurant is connected to a gas station! The brisket here is tender and has a great balance of fat and lean meat. Their competition sauce goes great with it, along with some freshly brewed sweet tea to chug it down! The jalapeño mac and cheese is awesome but you can definitely taste the jalapeño. It is not subtle. They also give you a biscuit AND a slice of cornbread! Even though this is a "help yourself" restaurant with free seating and grab-it-yourself utensils, there is an employee frequently walking around asking if he can refill your drinks and is welcome to strike up a conversation with you. The one in particular is extremely friendly, and is always at the restaurant to make your experience more enjoyable!

As we were walking up my grandson said " this is a fancy place ". The decor is nicer than most bbq places for sure. I was surprised to see so many options that were not bbq and a large selection of sides. He got meatloaf with Mac and cheese and baked beans. He said it was the best meatloaf he ever had and this comes from a picky eater! He loved the Mac and cheese as well. It was a huge serving so I got to try the meatloaf and he was right. He didn't share the Mac and cheese. Neither of us cared for the baked beans. I had the brisket, Brussel sprouts and potato salad. The brisket was tender and flavorful. Awesome. The potato salad was ok but I didn't care for the Brussel sprouts . I would try two different sides next time. A basket of hush puppies and biscuits came as well. We were both so thirsty and I can report they had excellent sweet tea. Our server was knowledgeable and pleasant. The food came out faster than I expected. We will be back!

When you walk in the space feels like a converted industrial warehouse with a polish of upscale. You'll check in with the host when you arrive and then be seated. For the starter we ordered the Pit Sampler (a medley of their appetizers; which includes pit-smoked wings, BBQ soul rolls, Southern-style deviled eggs, and pimento cheese balls). Unfortunately I wasn't a fan of the pit sampler as most dishes were a bit on the dry side, but the free basket of biscuits and hush puppies were great. For the entree we ordered the half rack of baby back ribs which were good but pretty fatty in some sections. I would return again in the future but may try something else on the menu.
