Wonderful people, a very clean restaurant and an excellent option on the south side of Greensboro. If you've ever eaten at a Smithfield's, you'll find this location an example of a well run one. I find the fried chicken excellent, the BBQ a good example of eastern NC style with a tangy sauce, and a solid hot dog with meaty chili. Love Smithfield's bbq. You can't be the price and the food is always fresh. My hubby loves the bbq plate. I usually get takeout. When I have eaten inside the staff is friendly and attentive. It was clean with a relaxed down home atmosphere. The fried chicken is good. My brother-in-law had the fried shrimp and I must say it was surprisingly yummy too. I'll get that next time I eat in. We have had them cater a couple of summer family cookouts. They brought everything to the house and set it up for only an extra $25. You can't beat their prices or their hospitality. Stopped in to grab a quick bite to eat. The menu isn't too overwhelming. They have your standard run of the mill fast food BBQ spots. The hushpuppies weren't bad, it was just a lot of them. They had a buttery taste to them. I thought the shrimp were ok. A little salty, but possibly because they are fried. I really like their slaw. The beans!!!! I probably should have ordered a double order of beans. They come with chunks of BbQ mixed in. When you dine in at this location, they bring the food to you. I really appreciated it. This morning, my husband was singing the Johnny Cash song, Sunday Morning Coming Down. There's a line that talks about "the Sunday smell of someone fryin chicken". So naturally, I needed fried chicken, but I didn't want to do "the fryin". Through a search, he found Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q. The prices are so reasonable for the massive amount of food you get. The HUGE chicken tenders are juicy, they have great flavor and the breading is like Granny's without killing the roof of your mouth. The baked beans actually have a little pulled pork in them and the sauce was fantastic. The hush puppies were golden brown and crispy on the outside and tender and light on the inside. The white coleslaw was the perfect balance of vinegar and sweet, a little mayo, it had no onions or carrots (Yay!) and was fresh and crunchy. The BBQ was pulled and really flavorful, even without extra sauce. They allow you to choose your sides. We had enough leftover for my full dinner tonight and enough to share with our friend. He also loved it and plans to take his son this week. We also got banana pudding to go YUMMY. -You order at the counter but then they bring your food to the table and actually hand it out. They checked on us twice and will refill your drink. They even brought us To Go boxes and wrapped plasticware. -They have a Health score of 98 and they are earning that. The restaurant and bathrooms are VERY clean. -The women's bathroom has a light switch that says TURN ON IF BATHROOM NEEDS SERVICE. That is an ingenious and convenient way for them to monitor. -You know how the people running the cash registers, will stand with their back to the customer, while they stare through to the kitchen? That's pretty common to fast food places. This restaurant has a sign posted for the workers that says TURN AROUND. I love that! -Every person inside was friendly, helpful and efficient. With the exception of their very good fried chicken and (depending on your preferences) a pretty decent shoestring fry, Smithfield's doesn't excel at anything really. If you are looking strictly for barbecue, there are much better options in Greensboro, such as Stamey's. However, for fast service and convenient locations, Smithfield's is great while you're out and about. Their fried chicken is very popular so I would recommend that. For the kids, their tenders are pretty tasty as well. Their fries are great but the hushpuppies are a little bland which is a real shame for a chicken and barbecue place. Overall, maybe not the best but a fine place to eat, especially if you want to please a group. read more

Food was not fresh upon arrival and parts of the order was missing. Ms. McCabe, who I'm assuming is the manager, emailed saying she would process a refund...which has never shown up on my account. Upon contacting the corporate email as well as the stores email asking about the status of the refund, I've received no response. Until I receive a refund for the food that had to be trashed, I guess my only recourse is to let everyone know about the stale food and the lack of refund after I have in writing saying they would issue the refund. Be aware of this store. Next step will be to contact the BBB and send all of the communication from the restaurant. Food is typically good, but upon them "dropping the ball" as the manager said, they've yet to remedy the situation unfortunately. read more

I've always love Smithfield's from growing up and was excited when I found out they had one in Greensboro. I do feel like it is a bit expensive for fast food and drinks not included with meals. Having grown up in the Triangle area and having spent considerable time down east, I have a decided preference for eastern NC style BBQ, and this is the real deal. I know a lot of people here in the triad aren't fond of Smithfield's because they grew up on Lexington style BBQ. Eastern style is just a different commodity, and if it's not your cup of sweet tea, that's okay. But for me, it's the epitome of comfort food. Consistency is important with any chain restaurant, and I have eaten at Smithfield's all over the state, from as far east as Havelock to here in Greensboro. It makes me sad to see all the recent negative reviews for this spot, primarily because after numerous visits my experiences (most recently lunch today) have been the complete opposite. The staff is always friendly, patient and helpful. The restaurant is spotless. The food comes out super fast and portions are enormous! This is one of my favorite chain restaurants. I like the cleanliness of the dining area. They also have a hand washing station in the dining room for the patrons and employees to use. I wish other restaurants did that. They have a sanitation grade of 97.5 posted next to the register. We both got a barbecue sandwich and a side. The sandwiches were pretty good. My wife got fries. As soon as I walked in the door I was impressed with this restaurant on Fernhurst Way. The store was immaculate. All the tables were wiped off and chairs pushed in. The guy that waited on me was very pleasant and easy to talk to. I got the barbecue platter with beans, coleslaw and hush puppies. i had to try the banana pudding. What other restaurants sell banana pudding. A guy brought my food to my seat and no sooner did I finish eating he through my empty plate away. Did I tell you they give a senior discount? I've visited this location probably 20 times since it opened, and in general, I like the food, but the service has become inconsistent, and slow, especially if you go thru the drive-thru. Today we spent over 20 minutes there, with only 3 cars in front of us, and the order was incomplete - the 4 piece Chicken Box had only 3 pieces. And just to make things just a little better, the FFs were under cooked & there was no hint salt on them. Not going to give this place too many more chances. read more

I like Smithfield's fried chicken a lot. Consistently across all their locations it is pretty darn good, but at a busy location it is GREAT because it is being made fresh more often. I've had it at this spot when bust or not busy, and you can definitely tell a difference between the two. Either way, the batter has a great crisp when fried up golden, and they use a simple but effective combination of spices. The pork is alright... if you are a fan of eastern style NC Q. I myself prefer a more smokey flavor in my meats, but that is a matter of personal preference. The Q is moist and tender with a nice vinegary flavor on par with most Q down east. Their hushpuppies aren't my favorite, but they are passable. The fries are the shoestring kind and are really good. The potato salad and baked beans is usually the route I will go. Great flavor in each. This location follows the same footprint as all the "new" Smithfield's locations popping up around the state do. Very attractive and open feeling.
