Just moved here and decided to try this place out. Prices aren't too crazy but I wouldn't eat here again. Food was disgusting. Ordered a large chili cheese fries and opened it when I got home and there was a fork inside the food and hardly any fries in it. Like most North Carolinians I've been coming to cook out for a long time. This is the closest location to my home and work so I'm here sometimes as much as weekly. The location itself is always fast and friendly. They have double drive throughs which can make navigation of the (small) parking lot a little tricky sometimes but nothing too bad. Cook out itself is great in my experience. It's not high end fair so know what you're getting but if you want great prices and better-than-fastfood fast food, cook out is the spot. This Cookout is the original Cookout. It does need to be remodeled. I feel like in restaurant dining would help deal with the drive thru line that sometimes extends into the middle of Randleman Rd (which is dangerous). I feel like if they had in restaurant dining, it would make Randleman Rd safer and would also get them more business. Other than the small drive thru and the fact that the drive thru extends into the road, this Cookout has really good food. Their shakes are pretty good and so are their fries. Neede.... never mind. What to get: Cajun Chicken Sandwich, Burger, Fresh Banana shake, Sweet Tea. Even on the eve of Thanksgiving I was delighted to have the chance to visit the original Cook-Out location right here in Greensboro - which seems to give birth to a hundred different food chains - but none more delicious than Cook Out, with it's amazing burgers and Cajun Chicken sandwiches - not to mention the wonderful banana milkshakes and sweet teas. Service wasn't great but one of the employees was absolutely gorgeous so that made up for it. They served several people after closing time even the night before Thanksgiving - you can't really get better than that. I have to give them 5 stars for the food being so good and for them serving people late and staying open a holiday and for being the original location of perhaps my fave burger chain in the country, along with Swenson's. Just be aware that it's a dangerous area late at night - so be careful if you're on foot and stay alert. Greensboro is a poor town and this is a lively, rough intersection with a lot of action and craziness going on. Stay alert and then meet me back at my place. First visit as a new resident of NC. BBQ Pork Sandwich, Onion Rings, Chocolate Milkshake; pretty standard drive-thru order for me. Started with the finger food on the way home, as usual. Sadly, the onion rings were my least favorite part of the meal. Though still okay, they could have benefitted from a little more time in the fryer, and a little more seasoning. Had I been home, a couple minutes in the air fryer and a little salt would have put them right up there. The sandwich was, as one would hope, the star of the meal. Good balance of flavor and texture (maybe a little more slaw would have been nice), and a mild vinegar finish. The chocolate milkshake was very thick, definitely needed the spoon for most of it. A bit too thick to be called a milkshake, IMO, more like the DQ Blizzard. Ice cream was decent, flavoring was about right. All in all, not bad for $7.14. This is another one of those places where you pretty much know what you'll get, and you pop in for a quick meal on the run, or for a specialty item you really like - in this case it was both - a Hershey's Chocolate Milkshake for Alice, and I grabbed a Southern Chili Dog with Slaw, and a Chopped BBQ Sandwich. The milkshake was outstanding as always, thick and creamy, and loaded with flavor - and frankly I don't know of a better one in the area! The sandwiches were solid, if not spectacular. The Hot Dog is probably the better of the 2 items - nice chili, decent wiener, good slaw, and a fresh bun. It's a bit sloppy, but then again many good things are. The BBQ sandwich is a notch or so above average, but it'll provide a quick pork fix. It lacks a certain amount of freshness, but soundly beats most "commercial" products found in non-BBQ joints in the state. read more

There are several good things about Cook Out. First, you need only to take a peek at their shake menu to get an understanding that Cook Out restaurants are the "Shake People". Every flavor you can think of is on that shake menu. I counted 38. I was torn. Eventually, I picked "hot fudge" (I really wanted them all but... right... I know... oink) . It wasn't actually hot but it tasted exactly like a hot fudge sundae. Then, there are the burgers. They are always freshly prepared to your liking. I love that. So, you never get a cold, stale, been sitting under a hot lightbulb version. I also like their onion rings and fries . No only is the burgers and hotdogs awesome with as many toppings as you can imagine but the had the best shakes and malts you have ever tasted. Seasonal fruit shakes as well as their staple flavors of goodness. Try the watermelon shake in the summer and their pumpkin shake in the late fall and don't forget about the candy cane shake that will rock your world in December. It is mostly a southern thing with location is NC, GA, KY. Cook Out has a variety of religious phrases printed on its food packaging. For example, "John 3:16″ and "God Bless America" are printed on the cups, "God Bless the USA" and "Galatians 6:10″ are printed on the french fry bags, and "THANK YOU GOD FOR AMERICA" and "Psalms 119:165″ are printed on the full size bags, but Bible verses vary. Besides the occasional, unmotivated employee, which most places have anyway, the only bad thing I can say about cookout is that they take a huge risk by playing christian music in the restaurant. I don't dine in or hang around at cookout bc the atmosphere they create with the christian music is kind of sickening. Located on Randleman Rd at the intersection of Industrial Ave, this is definitely the best location as far as speed & order accuracy of the Cook Out locations in Greensboro, atleast in my experiences. The food quality is always excellent as well. I've never been shorted items or had an incorrect order here. With a walk-up window & 2 drive-thrus, one on each side of the building, they keep the lines flowing pretty quickly even at peak hours. No indoor seating here like some of the newer locations. The char-grilled burgers are always fresh with nice fresh looking toppings, way better than any other fast food burger around in my opinion, the grilled chicken is pretty awesome too. They also do hot dogs that are pretty good & even a decent BBQ sandwich or plate, not to mention the numerous flavors of fantastic milkshakes which they are famous for. I went cook out on Randleman rd today, Nov 22, 2022. Ordered Hot Dog tray special. Got up to the window and noticed the sanitation grade of 93 was in the window. Debated on driving off or not. For the price of the food now, they should at least have a 97 grade. Although the food was good. Also I noticed the cook out in thomasville has a low sanitation grade as well. I love Cook Out so to write this review is heart breaking. My food was sloppily prepared. I had mustard everywhere. The cashier had a major attitude. After getting my food, I realized I needed another condiment. I tried to get the cashier's attention. She honestly didn't see me. I believe that. But two other workers did. One looked me right in the eyes as I motioned for her to get the cashier's attention. She walked away. Another worker walked up to add ice to the ice tray. I motioned for her to do the same thing. She stares at me for about 15 seconds, then reaches with her hand like she's trying to tap the cashiers shoulder. But with very little effort. But she was close enough to verbally say something to her to acknowledge I needed help. I can't deal with these attitudes and poor service.
