I was pleasantly surprised by my experience here. Upon walking in, I was greeted and the manager called for an employee to go to the front to take my order. This employee was a friendly young man who seemed happy to be there (always appreciated these days). He answered my questions and recommended two sides. My order (to go) came out in one minute! I turned around and there it was. The employee offered me a couple dipping sauces for my chicken tenders. I recently moved into the area and I tried Smithfield's for the first time. I went through the drive through and ordered the combo white which comes with fried chicken, pulled pork, hushpuppies and 2 sides. All of my food was hot and tasty. I have not tried any of their bbq sauces yet but I will get around to it. Also, if you want ketchup for your fries, you will need to ask for it. Otherwise, none will be in your bag. The pulled pork is North Carolina style with a vinegar based sauce it's consistently moist with a little bit of a bite to it. The chicken is always crispy, not to greasy and not try. Their bbq beans are excellent. It has some of the pulled pork for a depth of flavor and just the right amount of sweetness. The coleslaw is one of the better restaurant made slaws off had. The hush puppies a flavorful with a bit of sweet and not dryer out. You can buy everything ala carte or in combinations of various sizes. The staff is friendly and the service is counter style with seating, if you want to eat there. They also typically have a drive thru. read more

We moved from Wake Forest to eastern Wake and were glad to still have a Smithfield's nearby. However my last order was wrong, so we waited a while to try again. Ordered the drive-thru today and got home to find an incorrect order again. I ordered a chicken white plate, my daughter ordered a chicken tender snack. We received two chicken tender snacks. I ordered an unsweet tea, discovered when we got home it was a sweet tea. The breading is not as tasty as the Wake Forest location - which I would not have minded if the orders were correct. Words cannot describe the disappointment and anger I felt after leaving this establishment. I absolutely love fried chicken and coleslaw so every time I go to a Smithfield's chicken and bbq i always am very excited for the food. When I arrived to the restaurant I was greeted by a young lady at the counter she asked me if I was eating for here or to go, and then asked me what I would like . Not sure of her name but a very well mannered young lady. The problem didn't start here it started when I got my food. I ordered a tender snack with potato salad and a large sweet tea (fairly priced... if the food was good) the young lady who brought it out to me ( I believe her manager called her Alex or Alexa , it was hard to hear ) when she brought me my food I was greeted with the most disrespectful attitude and lack of wanting to be at work I've ever seen at a restaurant. I made the mistake of asking for ranch dressing when she brought me my food and she looked straight at me rolled her eyes and asked me if that was all. On top of that when she went behind the counter she started talking junk about me and my wife to all her coworkers . I was in complete disbelief so I just continued to sit there in silence until I was brought my ranch... I get having a bad day but I don't get taking it out on paying customers. As far as the food It was not horrible the potato salad was a little bland and the chicken was a little soggy but that of been because it sat of the hearing shelf for a few minutes before being brought to me . This place used to hit the spot! I was a sucka for the chicken, shrimp and bbq. I used to love the fries, potato salad and Brunswick stew. I'm not sure what happened but the only two things that I know will be good are the hush puppies and the sweet tea, everything else is a hit or miss. Sometimes the hush puppies are small and overcooked! This spot is a bit of a drive from our place, so we generally eat inside or park and eat. It's disappointing that you're not sure how the food will be be, but on a good day it's worth the money and drive. Service is cool, the staff always seems professional and nice & the inside is always clean. I had to Reheat my food when I got home The amount of food you get for $20.00 a plate is absurd! What a waste of $50.00! The owner did reach out and was going to replace the food with hot food. The Lady and I were SO hungry when we got into RDU and all we wanted was some real Southern Fried Chicken. Our AirBnB host in Raleigh suggested Smithfield for a quick, authentic chicken dinner. They did not disappoint. To be honest, the sides (potato salad & cole slaw) were just okay, and the hush puppies fell a bit short. But the chicken had that perfectly crispy skin and sooooo tender and juicy that I looked right past all that. And the Knightsdale location had such a friendly and professional staff, and their safety and cleanliness was surprisingly on point. We felt very well cared for, even though we were just walking in for some take out. All and all, I'd say yes, you can get better Southern cooking in the RDU area. Now when I'm in the south, I must get my hands on some good ole 'Sweet Tea'. I love me sum good sweet tea. Enter Smithfield's. I was turned onto this delicious sugar infused tea while in NC. The best part about their sweet tea is that is it is so sweet that I must dilute it with water - so the Gallon Iced Tea lasts FOREVER... SCORE!! I also tried the BBQ Sandwich w/ side of Cole slaw (xtra packets of red sauce). The vinegar based BBQ was in huge chunks of flavorful pulled pork. Delicious - SCORE!!! I ordered a two piece..half fried chicken half bbq and fries. They call your number and bring your food to you. The bbq chicken is edible...nothing to write home about but at least I had something to eat. The fried chicken has no seasoning at all..I had one bite. PASS!!! The fries were good. My colleague got the shrimp, I didn't even want to try one. The place is pretty packed and they have excellent service so I would still try it if you're looking for something quick. I love their hot dogs, their shrimp platter, and their brunswick stew!!! They have the best bbq and bbq chicken. They have outstanding baked beans, banana pudding, and pecan pie. I love that you can buy a bottle of their sauce at the store or in the grocery store. You can also buy their famous hush puppies mix. They have amazing sweet tea, and I love the retro décor! Excellent experience with the store management and corporate office! We didn't receive all the items in our tailgate order. When were unable to reach the store via phone, I called the corporate office not expecting a response. I got a call back in less than an hour, on a Sunday! I am extremely pleased with the courteous nature in which my parents issue was handled. The store manager was equally apologetic. Errors happen, people make mistakes, it is all in how you handle it. Look folks - when casting negatives on a restaurant such as this, keep in mind that it's not a gourmet environment. This is a wonderful family style restaurant. I find the fried chicken to be some of the best around - not greasy like many fast-food establishments. I'm personally not a fan of Eastern Carolina (vinegar based) barbecue, so I won't comment on the barbecue here. Whenever I come here, it's for the white meat chicken platter and sometimes I'll get the shrimp platter. It's filling and the taste is very good. We've never been disappointed - in any of the Smithfield environments that we've been to so far. So this is a great family environment - they keep the place very clean, the help are very friendly, and they've obviously been in business a very long time...'cause people keep coming back. read more

This was one of two restaurants that I would eat during the pandemic. It was one of my favorite spots as the employees are often friendly and practice good hygiene with food handling. However, I was very disappointed in them tonight when I noticed most of the employees weren't wearing masks. I understand that some may be vaccinated, but they are still around food, and everyone can't be vaccinated.
