Our rest stop adventure for our road trip from North to South Carolina. Service could not have been nicer - everyone wanting to fill your tea, get you some ice, etc. The food was pretty basic BBQ, I had the bbq sandwich. The star of the show was the hushpuppies. Just a classic rendition served piping hot and a nice portion. I wish they didn't fly the confederate flag they fly

If you don't mind eastern North Carolina pulled pork barbecue, this place deliver! It's clean, the prices are fair, the food is good. If you're looking for homemade family style, you probably want to try something else. But for quick, tasty, easy and cheap, this place delivers,

    BBQ pork sandwich with coleslaw

I absolutely love Smithfield's! They make the best baked beans and coleslaw. That being said I don't think this particular location in Lumberton got the message on how to make a pork and coleslaw sandwich. The one I received was cold, dry and they might of passed the coleslaw spoon next to my sandwich. No taste and so very dry. Please get the employees some training.

This was our first time at A Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q ( in Lumberton NC ) I ordered 2 fried chicken thighs& bbq beans with a lemonade-- excellent fresh juicy chicken, the crispy skin had a tad to much pepper for my personal tastes - The beans had pulled pork in them & fantastic flavor... But a bit thick ! ( who complains about that ?) Hubby had Chicken & Cole slaw Loved both. He was impressed with the flavor of pepper, chicken was hot & fresh! We will definitely try again !

We stopped by for a late lunch on Saturday. It was not busy and we were greeted by the person taking our order. We ordered the regular bbq plate with coleslaw and potato salad and a chicken and bbq plate with french fries and bbq beans. The bbq was good, i really like the vinegar sauce. The fried chicken was also good. We also liked the coleslaw and bbq beans not fans of the thin french fries (floppy and not crispy) or potato salad (unusual texture and not what we expected). We did enjoy the crunchy hush puppies. Store was clean and the one taking our order checked on us and refilled our drinks.

As we were traveling to North Carolina from South Carolina we needed to stop for lunch. I saw one of the exit signs for Smithfield's. I immediately told my husband we had to go. I remember going to Smithfield's when I was younger growing up in North Carolina. My husband is born and raised in South Carolina. I needed to introduce him to North Carolina BBQ! We had the kids with us as well. When we walked in we were immediately greeted and were able to walk up to the counter and order. I forgot how much I like y'all's hushpuppies and coleslaw! I missed the vinegar based BBQ. The portions were more then enough. The dining room was clean. I will definitely look forward to stopping here again when traveling!

Smithfields is consistently good. Got the chicken and BBQ plate with double coleslaw. Fried chicken was crispy and hot. BBQ was full flavored and moist as usual. Coleslaw was fresh and delicious. A definite place to eat at.

The food is excellent and the portions are large, but the prices are a few dollars too high for their competition.

When we pulled in, we quickly found out that this is not your typical restaurant establishment. It is located in what seems to used to be a shed, which stirred the thought in my mind that we shouldn't be eating here. But, my dad was committed and determined to try it out, and I followed along. When I walked in, I felt that I was in the 80s (hence the lone TV in the corner playing movies via VHS tapes). You can sit wherever you would like, and are given a short menu. We both got sweet teas, which I thought had a weak flavor, but my dad liked. Our server was the waitress, food runner, cashier, hostess, and everything in between. Despite this, she did a pretty great job at keeping everyone satisfied. I ordered the flounder plate, while my dad ordered the dark meat chicken plate. All plates come with fries, coleslaw, hush puppies, and a Kings Hawaiian roll. My flounder was mostly good, although one piece had a metallic taste. I requested 1 flounder, but they gave me three! How generous. My dads chicken was better than my flounder. The hush puppies are ok in my opinion (good, but not the best), I don't like coleslaw so I didn't try any, and the fries are very greasy but are good. The customers are either travelers off of the highway or interstate or are country locals. There were good people, laughs, and vibes going on at the country corral. I do think that the food could improve a bit, but because of the value for the amount of food you get, the people, the customer service, and the experience, Roys gets a 4/5 instead of a 3/5.

When we pulled into the parking lot, it was packed, which we took as a good sign. Inside, the restaurant was very busy. The hostess seated us and mentioned they were offering a pizza bar for lunch that day. She took our drink order and then came back to take our food order. My wife ordered the steak and cheese with curly fries, and I had the cowboy burger with onion rings. My wife said the steak and cheese was good, though the curly fries lacked seasoning. My burger was a little different than expected -- it comes on grilled Texas toast -- but it was still good, just a bit heavy on the bread. The onion rings, however, were very good. We asked our waitress about the pizza, and she explained that there used to be a pizza place across the street that was always busy. The owner of Arnold's also owned that pizza place, and after it closed and became a gas station, they decided to bring the pizza to Arnold's. She said they just started serving pizza a few weeks ago and have been very busy since adding it. One odd thing worth mentioning was the restroom. It was freezing cold, almost uncomfortable, and when you go to wash your hands there's a sign warning about extremely hot water, but no hot water came out at all. My wife said the women's restroom was the same way. On our way out, we walked past the pizza bar. The pizza looked excellent -- very thin crust, just the way we like it -- and they also had spaghetti available. When we're back in the area again, we'll definitely stop in to try the pizza.

I read four 5 star reviews from Mr. Cee's, one of them from a fellow Yelp Elite. Some answers please... As a POC, you know, I like to support my people. That said, I am also an extremely honest reviewer. I will give any place the benefit of the doubt. I'll return to a spot that has served food that may not be a representation of their best efforts. Like if the food were cold or they were shortstaffed and it had to be reheated and the texture changed but flavor and product are not to be compromised. The young lady at the counter was pleasant so was the couple who own restaurant. I don't know if it could be a locale discrepancy, but I have never in my life had a beer, battered pork chop, especially without forewarning besides that it lacked flavor except for salt and grease. I had baked beans and cabbage as my sides. The baked beans were fine. The cabbage was bland and soggy. You know we can do better. I ordered a sweet tea, got sugar water with a tint of brown. Again, maybe it's a locality preference. I want to go back in time and give them a second chance at what I understand they are popular for and try their barbecue just to give them a second chance. I told them I would be back...I won't unless I go with Gordon Ramsay and the Kitchen Nightmares crew. The inside of the place is closed for dining but you wouldn't be missing a thing. The hush puppies weren't my fave - they're the kind that look like scraps rather than golf balls. The deviled crab is interesting.
