I wouldn't support the new owners of this pharmacy with my business. I called ahead stating that I would be arriving there two minutes before closing and needed to buy throat spray for my sick hubby. When I arrived, the owners were there and had put the 'closed' sign up early (two minutes early at least) and would not even look at me while I knocked on the glass trying to get their attention. My family has been coming to this pharmacy for 20 years. New people have taken over the business. They have successfully given my mother and I the wrong medication more than a couple times. I am extremely disappointed with their service as the people who answer the phones are rude. A great number of elderly people live in St. Helena and getting their medication wrong could be fatal. Check your prescription to make sure it's correct before you leave the counter. My family and I will not be coming back to Smiths Pharmacy. read more

This is one of the better run pharmacies I've used. They process things quickly, there is never a huge line, and they deliver! Their staff is always on top of things. This location also has come cute toys and knick-snacks. It is overpriced in the pet section (a drawback) and the make-up selection is limited. So I am a new old timer back visiting St. Helena, went to grammar school here, and Smiths Pharmacy was around while I was growing up, oh did I mention I am visiting my fiancee' and I am from Missouri? I needed some birthday cards and found a great selection of them. While perusing the rest of the store, I noticed some really nice gift ideas as well as a nice pet supply area. I received three phone messages that my prescription was ready. Finally after 4 days, I went to Smith's to pick it up. When I got there, they couldn't find my prescription. The owner/pharmacist yelled at the poor older woman who was helping me, "Get her birthdate." She told him she was in the process of doing that. She still couldn't find it. He huffed over to a different section and said the reason nobody could find it is because it hadn't been picked up. When they handed me the bag, it had TWO prescriptions in it. Both tubes of cream looked similar. When I asked him why there were two and should I use one or the other, he said, "Call your doctor." I asked the woman, "isn't he a pharmacist?" She just shrugged. I checked and a big sign over one side of the counter read, "Consultations." I should have left without the prescriptions but I bought both of them. I had purchased a pair of reading glasses at this Pharmacy, Unfortunately they were hurting my head because they were the wrong prescription. I went back with my receipt and the original tags of the glasses and the glasses with the pouch. I walked up to up to one of the registers , I was hoping that the return would be simple being that I had everything I needed unfortunately the lady at the front register by the glasses was very rude and had very little customer service. She wanted to say no, but when she noticed I had my receipt she decided to ask me where the stickers of the glasses were... I showed her the stickers I had then, she proceeded to tell me she couldn't return it because I had not brought my debit card with me... so I went back to my car and returned to get my refund which she gave to me without much customer service. oh well, I was sorry to make her have to work issuing the refund but, these glasses were the wrong fit for me... and what do you know....it took her all of 5 minutes. read more

Worst pharmacy I have ever been to do to the older male pharmacist he questions you about your medication history thinking he knows anything about me. So thanks for embarrassing me and so much for hippa patient privacy. Then he calls my doctor to tell him about my med history. Don't you think the doctor already knows. I've gone to Smiths Pharmacy for many years to fill prescriptions and buy items I couldn't get at Safeway. Over that entire time I was never greeted by name or even with a smile or a wave. In fact, I felt the staff was glum and unfriendly. I've taken my business to Vasconi's, where the pharmacists greet me by name and with a smile. Their prices on the same prescriptions appear to be lower as well. read more

I have lived in the area for 5 years and used Smiths because of it's convenient location to Safeway. Last year I started to require a monthly prescription. It's not a popular prescription and is a new more expensive medication that Smiths does not keep in stock which is fine by me. However, they would not order the prescription until my Insurance reimbursed them first. This process takes 2 days, and an additional 2 days to order the prescription. I would have to call in my refill a week before my prescription was out. Not only was this a hassle, I had numerous conversations with both the pharmacist and the staff there explaining when I called in my refill I would definitely come in to pick it up as it is something I need to take daily. The staff and the pharmacist would have these conversations about my prescriptions in ear shot of other customers. The pharmacist never once walked behind his computer to have a quieter conversation with me in person. Not only is this completely unprofessional it is also just plain rude. I have since moved my business to Vasconi's where the waiting time for this prescription is one business day once refilled. Not only does Vasconi keep much more convenient hours, but their pharmacists also have gone out of their way to talk to me about my prescriptions not in ear shot of the entire store. read more
