This is a "must" every year we go to Napa. I found this little soap shop 8 years ago and love their soap. This year, we went in for our soap stashes. While there, we found out they were bought by someone else. After spending several hundred dollars, my sister needed to use the restroom. We were told we could not use the bathroom at the shop. When you go to a store and spend money, bathrooms are basic. Had we not had to leave to find a restroom, we would have returned our purchases. Needless to say, we won't be going back. I have been here twice and had a similar experience each time. The staff has been cheerful and pretty helpful. I browsed around and am always impressed with the scent of the soaps. I have bought several for myself and also some to bring home for gifts. The soap does not give off as much scent as I would expect. When you sniff it, the smell is strong. When you actually use it, not so much. I do not even use bar soap normally but make an exception when it is from Napa Soap Company. The soaps are pretty and some of the names are related to wine. It's such a lovely little place, because it's both a retail store front and the facility where they make the products. Like so many experiences in Saint Helena, this seems like a set for a scene in a Nancy Meyers movie. I was able to get not only several lovely soaps to bring home, but also some fun little makeup bags and jewelry. It was even cuter than I had expected - and that is saying a lot! I like to buy a lot of handmade things when I'm in Napa, and then bring it all home to stash in my gift cabinet. I'm not a soap person for the obvious hygiene reasons especially if you share a shower with someone else. LOL... however, we went into this shop to browse as we were waiting for our lunch reservation across the street. I have to say that their soaps smell super POTENT in a good way. Caress has nothing on this place as the I found the scents to be more natural. I bought a Cabernet Soapignon and a White Jasmine. They both smelled exactly as their names advertised. I bought the CS one for a friend, since he's a snooty wino. I am keeping the white jasmine for myself because it was too lovely to ignore. The shop owner was super friendly and his son (?) was super helpful. I didn't think I would be swayed by a soap shop, but here I am yelp-ing about it. I couldn't pass up buying a few bath bars to bring home with me when I was in Napa and months later they smell as good as they did when I bought them. I never ever thought that I'd be visiting a a soap store here in Napa Valley. And, it was all by accident! I just happened to use the restroom inside Velo Vino and saw that they used NSC's hand soap and lotion. I usually don't use any lotions in restrooms since I carry my own, but for some reason, I decided to use it (in hindsight, I call it fate). Holy cow, it smelled sooooo good! After that, I couldn't get that lotion out of my head. It was like I found t the love of my life and couldn't stop thinking about him (hypothetically speaking, dear hubby). Even when I made a pit stop at Dean & Deluca's, I went to go look for it in the bath section and lo and behold...it was there (chime in the "Gregorian Chant"). I got so excited and even got my sister interested, only to find that one bottle of lotion pump was around $20. Hm, snort, wait, what? I don't even spend more than $10 on a bottle on body lotion, and I'm talking about one of those ginormous ones that lasts like 8 months. Oh, the agony. Well, thanks to my driver friend, who happened to see this store on our way to another winery, decided to stop by for my sake, and I'm so glad that he did. Yes, their products are pricey for me, but they don't use any sodium laurel sulfate, parabens, and phthalates, they don't do animal testing, and they try to use as many organic ingredients whenever possible. They are also very eco-friendly (like recycling and minimal packaging). BTW, their products were slightly (and I mean slightly) cheaper than at Dean & Deluca's. After much contemplating, I ended up getting the grapefruit pomegranate lotion pump 7.8oz ($18.95), the travel size Tuscan citrus zest bath gel and lotion (2.2oz each), and a travel size bar of soap. I don't remember the exact prices for the travel size items, but I think they were more or less around $4.00ea (I don't see any travel size stuff on their website so may only be available in-store). Support Local, that is what I say!!! When you open the front door your nose is immediately greeted by a multitude of wonderful scents. The friendly employee was never pushy. She greeted us and answered any questions that we had. She had the most popular selling bars of soap set up on top the stacks of soap so that we could tell as we worked our way through all the scents. Some of my favorites were the Clean O Noir and the Soapignon Blanc. Napa Soap Company also carries other items such as beautiful jewelry and the most clever greeting cards. You just need to take a whiff of some of their scents and you'll be hooked on Napa Soaps. I was down to the last shard of a bar when I planned a trip up to Napa. What good timing since Napa Soaps is in St. Helena not that far away. All the crates in the front of the shop display the variety of soaps, assorted baskets, mini gifts for both men and women.Right behind is the kitchen where they pour the liquid soap into molds, so you can see your soap being made! My choices today were: Berry Rose - a fruity antioxidant blend of grapeseed, raspberry seed, and carrot seed oils; rose clay and Rose wine. My favorite scent! Harvest Blend - red wine with a medley of the grapeseed/cranberry seed/hazelnut/olive oil. Sounds delicious, doesn't it? Cabernet Soapignon - red wine with cocoa butter and olive/grapeseed and sweet almond oils. A rich blend for your skin. Since I was the designated driver on this trip, buying these soaps was a nice way to bring back a little bit of wine (in some soap) to enjoy later. read more

I discovered this gem a few years ago on a trip to Saint Helena. It is now my go-to place for soaps! I love the many "flavors" of the bar soaps and never leave without at least 6 to take home to Sacramento. My favorites are the Shea-donnay and Grapeseed. For those first visiting, if you don't know how the soaps will work with your skin, I suggest asking for a sample (a little 1/8" or so sliver), or purchasing a smaller bar, to test on your skin. (For example, the White Jasmine bar smells divine... but on my skin, was too musky. Live and learn...) They also have an assortment of oils, liquid soaps and moisturizers, other gift items, and products specifically for men (shaving, etc.). Definitely a place to stop if you're in the area... or be like me, use it as an excuse to take a road trip. read more

Stopped off for a few bars of their soap as gifts you have to used them fairly soon or the scent diminishes over time. Bars are now $9.95 each. I still like Cabernet but bought a couple of the Berry Rose and they smell great. If you get in their mailing list, you can get intermittent notices when they have a sale. I got one for 20% off but shipping is almost $8 and more if you buy large quantities. You probably save a few cents a bar if you buy 4 bars, after you factor in the mailing cost which is overnight. I don't need soap delivered overnight. Maybe they should offer a couple to few days shipping and charge less. read more

I've been going to this place every single time I go up to Napa - it just makes up for such great gifts to give to your family and friends, especially if they like nice-smelling things and appreciate natural and hand-crafted things. The place used to be in the back of the little building near Gott's Roadside on Hwy 29 - but now they moved up closer and is now just on the roadside - easier to spot, better parking (although you really have to pay attention when you're turning because as soon as you turn, it's RIGHT there). The new places affords more room to roam about and probably a better working space for the soap ateliers. The soap selection is good as ever - they obviously have put in some thought and creativity into the naming of the soaps. My favorites are the basil soap and the serious chef's soap, but really I'll take any. My sisters have attested that they like the lavender (there are two kinds...can't remember which) and the goat's milk soap. Of course, now with the expansion, the place goes far beyond the hard soaps themselves. They have their own line of lotions, mists, the indoor liquid scent things (what do you call this?), and other accessories (frankly I don't care for these). I've seen the Napa Soap Company's soaps sporadically in places like Dean and Deluca, but you can go to the website and order them online. $8 might sound crazy for a block of soap, but seriously, remember - you're using it for your daily sanitary matters and the general feel-goodness. The concept of "bang for the buck" does exist here. $8 will get you far. I can't visit Napa Valley without making a stop at Napa Soap Company. This store isn't just for women -- they create men's gifts, too! See the end of my review* My first experience with NSC was several years, when I bought a bar of their "Cabernet Soapignon" soap at Dean and Deluca in St. Helena, not realizing that the company itself was making their products just down the road. This is my favorite bar soap scent, though it's difficult to choose just one -- they all smell amazing. As many women do, I am constantly buying soaps, lotions, and potions that smell amazing at first, yet I rarely find myself using them regularly, let alone finishing them. Women understand this impulse purchasing issue when it comes to bath and body products -- we buy and buy more and more, don't use what we have, and accumulate a huge pile of useless items that stop smelling great, don't perform, and are kind of run-of-the-mill boring. I can honestly say that is not the case here. I stashed this bar away after purchasing it and once I remembered where it was, I started using it on an everyday basis. Months later, I continue to use it daily and it just lasts and lasts. The scent of the soap is just as nice as the day I bought it, doesn't melt nearly as easily as other handmade soaps tend to, and has lasted far longer than expected. Every time I use it, I remember exactly why I bought it. It reminds me of the Napa Valley - the scents, tastes, and complexity of an experience there. A verbose description, but very true. Most importantly, the soap is softening and doesn't dry out my hands and skin. The bar creates a very soft lather and rises away clean without leaving any residue and just the tiniest residual scent. The shop itself has an easy, organized layout, carries a huge selection of products, and also stocks a few other gift items such as jewelry and tub tea. They always include a free sample of one of their other bars with each purchase, which is a nice bonus. The staff is friendly and helpful, and depending when you come into the shop, you may even see them in action, creating more products right behind the counter. *Men, don't feel left out! NSC also started to create a variety of shaving soaps and sell kits with shaving brushes, soap for travel, and even their own enamel cup. My guy loves the "Honey Jar" scented shaving soap I gifted him, and says the lather is non irritating and very gentle on his sensitive skin. To my surprise, he's asked that we stop and buy more -- never thought I'd hear that! I like to support this small business whenever I'm in the area, but am a return customer over and over because the products are unique and high quality. My daughter was visiting her in-laws in St Helena and I wanted her to drop in at the Napa soap company to pick me up some men's lotion for a gift. I decided to give the Napa soap Company a call to see what their hours were for the evening so my daughter could stop by and pick me up the product I wanted before they closed. So, I called and a man answered and I inquired about the hours and he said "were closing in a few minutes" I said oh no! I proceeded to let him know I was trying to get my daughter to stop by and pick up some lotion for a gift but she was at the theater in town watching a movie. He was very helpful and said I'll place it outside in back and she can pick it up, then he offered to drop it off at the theater. Wow what a nice gesture and complete customer service at its best. The man, I don't recall his name? Was so incredibly helpful and made this happen on Christmas Eve. He delivered the lotion to the theater in town and I messaged my daughter while she was watching the movie to let her know a package was waiting for her up front. So it has become somewhat of a tradition to stop off at Napa Soap Co. every time we visit Napa -- which is now once or twice a year. By happy accident we discovered this place while looking for a lunch spot one day (not that we thought they had food -- we pulled into the parking lot to search Yelp). Handmade soaps, lotions, and more... this place was pretty impressive. The quality was pretty good too -- good enough to buy a few bottles the first visit, then several bottles the second visit, and most likely even more the next visit. It's businesses like this that makes me want to move into the neighborhood. A small town business, super kind staff, handmade product with high-end quality.
