First time shopping for a car. At 23 years old, most of the dealerships actually don't show that much interest or respect seeing as how young I am. I am certain that Nardy Honda (Smithtown Honda) even thinks that I was just joyriding when I was testing out cars... This was one of the few places that showed me respect and cared to actually try and sell me on the car. Maybe it was luck my salesman drove a Prius, but that was in the end the car I ended up going with. I got a great deal on it as well. No bullshit fees. Granted the only thing I probably could've gotten for lower were the addons (extended warranty plus the remote start). I didn't know I could even bargain with that until I already finalized. Meh, I don't really care that much about it. After all, they need to make some money, and I don't think that they made any on the car at all. I managed to snag a new 2013 Prius 3 for a lil' over 25k. I am happy. Car drives nice. Salesman was nice and supportive and showed me the car. 0% financing for 60 months is also ridiculous... Literally no interest at all. I'm 56 years old and have purchased and leased through many dealerships NEVER having had a bad experience. That is, until dealing with the sheisters at Smithtown Toyota. I was pricing a new car lease and gave them a price I wanted to pay. The salesman told me he'd have to check with his manager and asked me to give him a few hours. By the time I returned home I had two messages telling me they could give me the car at the price I wanted. This was on a Thursday. That Monday I returned to complete the paperwork. I signed the contract and left a $500 deposit. That's when the fun began. The sales manager came over shook my hand and said they made a 'MISTAKE'. I told them there's no mistake because I signed the contract. They said its not good until he approves it. My claim was that I signed the contract. The salesman called me back the weekend having received an approval, and if they couldn't do the deal they had three (3) days to let me know. But they waited until I signed and put my credit card down. I didn' want to even hear their reason. This is BAIT & SWITCH at its worst. I had a signed contract and they wouldn't give it to me. I have been using this dealership for years and have always had a positive experience. This past Sat. I brought my Camry in for a 35,000 mile service. The advisor told me I needed brakes and tires and brought out this gage to show me how much I had left on my pads. He did the same with another man in the waiting room. I said no thank you to both as I know I could get a better price on tires from Mavis or Goodyear. The price he quoted to me was near to $1000. for four tires! After I said no to him I took a walk to the bat where my car was and asked the mechanic the validity of what he said and about how many more miles he thought I had on my pads. He said about 5,000. 5,000 for me is about 6 months. I felt like he was just trying to boost sales and take advantage of me because I am a woman. In the past I never had experiences like this. I had an outstanding experience at Toyota today. The manager Lance was thorough, informative, and extremely helpful when I entered the store. When I was escorted to the sales woman, Trish, she was very smart and seemed to really do everything in her power to help me find what I was looking for. After not long at all I found the perfect deal and was ready to buy. From paperwork, to trading in my car- getting insurance quickly with Mary and taking care if finances with Mike everything was straightforward and seamless. Everything was laid out in the beginning so when it was time to put down the money I was not blindsighted or left with any surprise charges or fees. They never pressured me into extra features, warranties, or service packages. They gave me all of my options with the ability to choose, and even gave me time and privacy to do so without making me feel pressed to make a choice. I was there for about four hours and I was with somebody every step of the way. I was not ever waiting around wondering what was happening or where the saleswoman or manger was. I am so amazed with this experience that I am still in a bit if shock about it! I was not looking forward to buying a new car after so many bad experiences but this place completely changed my mind and I don't think I'll ever go anywhere else. He even found my first choice color, blazing blue color, 2018 Tundra. after finishing the paper work , he explained to me all the button, option, four wheel drive dial knobs and radio display apps. That was AWESOME! Cuz I hate going thru the manual, which is so confusing and time consuming. He was helpful to sync my iPhone to the onboard HDRADIO., voice command and free app for the navi system help out so I don't need to use my data plan on WAZE all the time. They seem to have a lot of people fooled. What are Prius in for 20,000 mile maintenance. Got a phone call that they wanted to change the air filter and cabin filter. They claim we had acquired points from visiting there Center for maintenance. When I asked the cost it was like a $106 to replace an air filter and cabin filter. They claim with the points we were going to get 50% off. I checked online the actual Toyota part for a cabin filter was $ 17 and a Toyota air filter was $12. And I got to the dealership I asked to see the parts that were taken out they claimed they were in the garbage and he didn't know which ones they were. This is baloney since New York state law states you have to give back the old parts. I would have changed you air filter myself it takes about one minute and the cabin filter takes about three. Funny how they listed $60 for labor. I am checking with my lawyer to see what recourse we have being that they couldn't show me the old parts. Tom the gentleman and service that helped us, gave us a song and dance routine. Will never ever ever let these guys do anything to the car. I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU BUY A NEW CAR FROM SMITHTOWN TOYOTA BASED ON MY BUYING EXPERIENCE THERE!! THEY HAVE NO INTEGRITY, ARE UNETHICAL AND UNTRUSTWORTHY! The following is a 10/6/14 letter i wrote to them and Corporate Toyota describing what happened to me and to date the issues i raised has not been resolved. Their Customer Relations Manager, Lauren Karakasians was not helpful in bringing it to a resolution. My letter of 10/6/14: I had a bad experience at Smithtown Toyota when I bought my 2014 Toyota Prius Hybrid Two on August 31, 2014... which almost made me not buy a Toyota Prius Hybrid there! My bad experience was due to two reasons. First, my salesperson, Keith Williams refused to sell me the Prius after I told him I did not want to trade in my 2005 Honda CR-V. Secondly, he did not give me the promised portable Garmin 5 or 6 inch GPS device. Firstly, on Sunday August 31, 2014 I visited the Smithtown Toyota Dealership with my wife at about 10 am. I went there because of a referral from True Car. Com. I told him Smithtown's price was $301 higher than another dealer from True Car, Competition Toyota and asked him to better that price. He said he could not but said maybe he could throw in a portable Garmin GPS unit with a 5 or 6 inch screen worth $150 to $200 to help make up the difference. I said OK. Then I asked him if he had the Prius Hybrid Two in the color Sea Glass Pearl. He said he did not but would honor the price and get the car from another dealer. I said OK. Then I asked him the value of my 2005 Honda CR-V for a trade in. He had someone inspect it and came back and said it was worth $1,800. I said no. He then said he could call another dealer to see if he could get more. He came back a few minutes later and said he could give $2,300. I said no. He then said he had one more call to make and came back and offered me $3,000. I said it sounds like Smithtown really wanted my car. So I told him I would keep it and sell it on my own. To my astonishment, he then said he wouldn't sell me the car unless I traded in my car! I said we had a deal for him to sell me the car before I raised the issue of a trade in. I said the two events should not be related. At this point I was ready to cancel the deal because I said this was unethical. He agreed that it was unethical but that this is what the dealership was doing. I said he is the dealership to me! I then asked if he had the Barcelona Red Metallic color in inventory. He said yes. I then said I would buy it with the Garmin 5 or 6 inch GPS and he said yes. Secondly, when I arrived on Tuesday September 2 to pick up the car, Keith offered me the 4.3 inch Garmin GPS, worth less than a $100. I said we agreed on a 5 or 6 inch Garmin GPS. He said that's what they are offering and if I didn't want it, to leave it. I said that wasn't the deal. This left a really bad taste in my mouth because Keith/Smithtown wasn't trustworthy. I took the car and GPS and left. Conclusion: In the future, i would not consider buying another Toyota vehicle if this is how Toyota conducts its business. And I would encourage my friends and family NOT TO BUY A CAR FROM SMITHTOWN TOYOTA. I'm sure Honda, Subaru and Hyundai would love to sell me and my family of 6 young adults a vehicle in an ethical manner. What would make it right: 1. Smithtown Toyota should apologize to me for this conduct. 2. Smithtown Toyota should provide me with a portable Garmin GPS unit with a screen size of 5 or 6 inch worth $150 to $200. 3. I went in there for a NY state inspection. After the long wait, lady came and said your wipers will not pass inspection, we can change them for you for $50. I said fail me and as I have them at home I will put them on myself and keep the $50. I paid the full inspection fee and went on to walmart and got a pair of wipers just under 12 bucks, put them on myself and went back to them. The way lady reacted to me coming back to finish off the inspection with new wipers did not resonate a good vibe. She was slightly rude. Her voice and demeanor said it all. And Now I waited another hour and a half for them to inspect the "wipers" and paid another 10 bucks for re-inspection. They thought they had me for an easy $50 but only got me for $10. But they still got me. It took a total 3+30 minutes for this ordeal. I suggest you go else where unless you like a place that nickel & dime their customers. I still do not believe the michelin wipers that were on them when it failed inspection was bad. But I am not a qualified inspection specialist. But I do know when someone takes me for a ride. read more

This is my first time purchasing a vehicle from Smithtown Toyota and I must say the experience was refreshing. I've been a consistent Toyota owner since I was 16 years old and I've been to many Toyota dealers in my time from Lee's Toyota, Huntington, Milleimum, Bayside, and the list can go on. My experience with these prior dealers left me feeling jaded and "on-guard" when looking for another new car. I started my search for a new Toyota online through Truecar.com and Smithtown Toyota came up as a good starting point. I already knew the make and model of the car I wanted, a 2017 Sienna XLE, and I called up the sales department to see what inventory they had in stock. I was lucky enough to get Ben Zimmet as my salesman. We started discussing my wants and needs over the phone as physically making it into the dealership was difficult for me due to the distance of the dealership and childcare. Ben was extremely patient and knowledgeable. He didn't brush me off as someone who really wasn't serious about wanting a car. He took the time to answer all of my questions and he didn't try to sell me something that wouldn't be a good fit for my situation. Ben and I communicated via phone most of the day, with a respectful and polite back and forth negotiation. There was absolutely no pressure. I wanted zero percent financing and although the current incentives from Toyota or the dealership weren't offering them at the time Ben pushed to make it happen at zero percent. Ben was able to give me the exact make, model, color, interior that I wanted at fair price without the crazy "high-pressure" and "shady" sales tactics that I had gotten used to with other salesman/dealers. Ben scheduled me for a test drive the next day and answered all of my questions with great enthusiasm. A few days later when my car was ready for pick up Ben came in on his day off and spent the good part of an hour explaining to me all the features of the car and how to use some of the new "high tech" functionalities of the display and safety monitors. I also meet with Diego Rivas the Finance Manager who also was a true professional. He patiently walked me through the contract and finance agreement and he didn't try rush or aggressively "up-sell" me into any additional purchases or warranties. When I was confused about something or it didn't make sense Diego would make sure I knew what I was signing and that everything was clear before we continued. The entire process was smooth and pleasant. After purchasing the vehicle I noted that there were two cosmetic defects to my new car. I discussed the issue with Ben and the dealer who were very responsive and they are currently in the process of fixing the issues. I surprisingly really enjoyed my new car buying experience and would definitely buy again from Smithtown Toyota as long as Ben and Diego were parties to the transaction. read more

I brought my 2009 Prius there for an inspection and oil change. Passed with flying colors after two exterior lights needed to be changed. Paid a little under a hundred. Take my car home and the next day I turn it on, five lights come on. I roll my eyes and figured that the guy forgot to turn some lights on he checks. I call and the guy told me "his people don't forget to turn lights out". I asked what he thinks it is then and he told me a list of what the lights might mean and recommend I bring it in and pay $116 for a diagnostic. I repeat two days earlier at this point I went there and the car had passed inspection. My car is only seven years old but funny all this goes wrong just after my six year extended warranty ran out. I don't buy it. I genuinely believe they did something to my car but the charges to fix it would have been astronomical they tell me. I've pretty much junked it now and am borrowing a friends car until I buy a new car, which will 100 percent NOT be another Toyota. They should be ashamed of themselves I've used them for years but now I think they are a bunch of scam artists. read more

I brought my car for a 50k service. When i made the appointmen, I asked what this included and how much it cost. It was the basics, oil change, tire rotation, fluids .... Total would be about $115. I'm thinking I'm doing my car a service by bringing it to its home and getting it serviced. When I picked it up, my bill was $936.00 before a "generous" $100 coupon. I was outraged when I looked at my bill and found out that $700 of the bill was just the LABOR !!!!! What ???? Are their mechanics so incompetent that it took them 7 hours to take care of my cars' service ???? Never again. Very disgusted and let down. I was connected to his voicemail and I left a detailed complaint along with my return phone number. I never received a call-back. Several weeks later my wife also had an issue with the service she received from Smithtown Toyota's service department. She also called and left a message and she didn't receive a return call either. I was at Smithtown Toyota on Saturday and agreed to lease a new Corolla for my daughter who just graduated college. I bought a Tundra there two years ago. We were told Toyota is offering a $500.00 recent college grad promotion and the salesman showed me the reduction of $500 in the computer. Today, I get a phone call saying there is a caveat, by Toyota corporate, stating that in addition to proving that you graduated, you have to show that you are gaining employment within 120 days. This was never told to us, by either salesman. I told them this was deceptive and that we weren't going to pay this since it was misleading. They called back and said okay we will eat some of the $500. I said then cancel the sale because we are not paying it. Two minutes later, the manager said okay Toyota will pay it. Is this the first time this happened? Hard to believe. We went back to Smithtown Toyota because we had a good experience the first time but this is the last time we will buy or lease there. If you are getting the graduation discount make sure you ask about this caveat. read more

Avoid their used car department like a plague! I came across with a 2017 land cruiser at this dealership, inquired about the condition of the vehicle and went down for a test drive. There were couple of minor dents and scratches but otherwise in a good shape (with untrained eyes). I asked if the vehicle has been kept in factory paint, salesperson reassured me that is the case (& provided with a carfax report as well). Fast forward, few months later, my rear bumper was scuffed in a minor accident and I opted to have the bumper repainted by a prominent bodyshop in Queens. Thats when the master painter pointed out the passenger side quarter panel had previous damage and was refinished with cheap body fillers (bondo) - and surely so, the surface appear to be dull in reflection with uneven surface. The repair was done outside of authorized bodyshop and hence did not picked up by Carfax. Rich Milano is the saleperson that I worked with. My family have been a loyal toyota customer for years, but its this dealership that let us down. read more

Oil change, tire rotation, and an air conditioning service Shortly after, the passenger front and rear floors started to collect water. I assumed the window wasn't closed when it rained. It was however the A/C drainage hose that was not connected with the exit hose. It drained into my vehicle causing flooding. I called and wasn't really expecting anything outlandish but was told by Dave that basically there was no way it was his service department fault and that it must have been kicked by a passenger in my car. So for 11 years everything with the car is fine but since the A/C was serviced by them it leaked and ruined my interior but it couldn't possibly be their fault. Dave offered to help me out by removing my interior and drying it out but of course there would be a fee. I wasn't looking for free service, however, I was looking for the service department to take accountability and responsibility for their mistake. Instead I was blamed and it was not resolved. He did not offer an apology, a refund, or even sympathy for what had happened. Dave just wanted "to help me out" for a fee. I will take my business elsewhere, anywhere, just never to them. read more
