I put a deposit on a Sienna in late April and was given a contract which include $1,500 rebate. The delivery on the car was very delayed so in May I checked with Fritz to make sure that the $1,500 rebate would still apply regardless of the delivery date (the contract did not indicate anything differently). He confirmed this. However, now that the car is here, I am being told that I will only receive at $500 rebate (the current rebate at time of delivery). Fritz has apologized, telling me that he did not know this would be the case. Given that the contract does not stipulate that the rebate can change, and given the reassurance I was given early, I am quite unhappy that Smithtown Toyota is not honoring the original $1,500 rebate. Unfortunately, I have no choice at this point but to accept this reduction since I need a car (we have a baby coming next week!). Very disappointed. I should say, I did find Fritz relatively responsive through the last two and a half months, though he unfortunately was not very accurate in his estimate of 2-3 weeks for the car to arrive and was misinformed when he assured me of the rebate. I don't know if he is to be blamed for this lack of knowledge or if he too was, in turn, misinformed from his managers. Either way, I am out an addition $1,000. read more

I bought a new Camry Hybrid from this dealer (the dealership was recommended by a friend). Jillian Arthus was my salesperson. She was first rate. Even though new on the job, she was extremely competent. I got a fair deal (though I needed to negotiate hard for it), with a minimum of nonsense, and was treated respectfully. The nonsense part was that JIllian said my estimate of the dealer's cost of the car, which I got from Kelly Blue Book, did not include the $900 charge for shipping that the dealer pays. When I checked, I found that this charge WAS included in the Kelly Blue Book estimate. When the dealership didn't have the color we wanted, she went the extra mile and got exactly what we wanted from a dealer nearby. After the purchase, Jillian spent all the time needed to show me the features of the car. Keith, the business manager, was also very professional, and got the numbers right. He also did not pressure me about buying extra insurance for the car. He did, however, mislead me about both my wife and I needing to be on the loan, but it turned out not to matter very much. I paid $600 to order a rim from them and they charged me $40 labor to put it on. While still at the dealer, I told them the tire pressure sensor light was still on. They told me to drive it for a few miles and it will go off. I drove it for a week and made another appointment. At this appointment, they are telling me I need a new sensor for $136. It just goes bad sometimes. How coincidental that it would fail right after you replaced the rim and then have the nerve to charge. This place is not only slow with their service but like a shady mechanic, charge for unnecessary things and problems THEY caused. read more

Terrible experience. I bought a pre-owned *certified* Prius for nearly $24,000. The dealership recommended a transporter to deliver it to me in MA from NY. Turns out the dealership did not sign any bill of lading upon pickup and it was delivered damaged to me. I reported this to the dealer immediately and got a quote from a local Toyota dealer- $2200 of damage on the underbody! Nothing has been resolved and it's been over 1 month since the delivery. We bought the car 28 days ago and they can't seem to register the car because they can't seem to get the certificate of origin. We can't get the clean pass stickers for HOV because the car isn't registered. We paid for car in full but technically we don't actually own it yet. High labor costs. I am not from Long Island so I will let you be the judge. Is $313.33 for labor alone reasonable for routine maintenance? Maintenance was oil and filter changes, new wiper blades, tire rotation, and topping off fluids. Gave the service guy a second chance to adjust the costs after I had done the math out on a piece of paper, but all he gave me was a 10% discount. Final cost of a regular 95,000 maintenance was $434.95. I had almost the exact same service in Ohio and in South Carolina done for around $140. Labor is usually around $60. The sad thing is he said I also will need to get my breaks serviced, which I actually do believe him on this, but now I don't have the money to pay for that right now. If I had felt like I wasn't being scammed I would have had them go ahead and do it that same day. My Wife and I purchased a used Toyota Corolla. The experience was good buying the car with Rich. As we went and picked up the car we were informed at the last minute that there was only one key. This was NEVER told to us or in any of our paperwork when we bought the car. Rich seemed confused as to this fact as well and told us to come down to the shop anytime and get another key. A couple of weeks later, my wife goes down to Toyota and plans to get a copy of the key and was told that she needs to have Rich call and make an appointment (we needed to get a mirror fixed as well). After this hassle, we were told we would need to pay for the key!! We explained the situation again and they said to speak to Rich. My wife was told that she needed to pay for the spare key. When I met with the salesman and told him my story he seemed to be willing to work with me. Well that quickly turned. After a deal didn't seem to be likely he started to raise his voice telling me "how it was Thanksgiving Eve and now he was upset." He was embarrassed to have to speak to the sales manager on my behalf. Not sure how this was my fault or problem. He continued to tell me how he has been selling Toyotas for 25 years and showed me their "shame on you" binder about other Long Island dealerships. Looking to buy/lease a new car is not easy. You walk into a dealer, they keep you there way longer than needed and then try to pressure you to buy a car that day. The salesman will keep disappearing to talk to this person thats sits in this private room and comes up with numbers to bait you. You feel rushed, you feel like you haven't seen all your options and why all the secrecy? Well to say the least Toyota Smithtown was no different and actually my worst experience. I walked in and requested to check out/drive the rav4. I was immediately paired with a salesman and I told him I wanted to drive the rav4 to see if I like it. 45 minutes later I still haven't driven the car but he got my car appraised and went to his manager a few time to get prices. Besides the point that I don't even know if I like this car and your pricing it out they also offered me way less for my Toyota trade in than 3 other dealers. I just got an off vibe there from the whole experience. The energy was stale and I'm glad I didn't waste anymore of my time there and walked out. I've also had a bad experience at Riverhead Toyota. I purchased a car in December 2012 from Smithtown Toyota. I believe that the car was flooded in hurricane sandy. After 17 months the car broke down and will not start. I took it to Atlantic Toyota and they told me that it has saltwater corrosion, that's why it will not start. I looked up the Carfax and the car was returned right after Sandy in November 2012 after a lease and purchased from Smithtown Toyota. Smithtown Toyota took a look at the car and they are confirming that there is salt-water damage but they are not taking responsibility or doing anything to rectify the situation. I have a 2014 Prius. I called ahead to schedule service. I provided a detailed itemization of what was needed. I was asked if I would wait or leave it. I said I wanted to leave it. I arrived for my appointment. Not one person was friendly or inviting in any way, shape, or form. The service advisor refused to take car if I was waiting because too busy. They should have told me this when I made the appointment. They then informed me it was $125 to diagnose the problem. I took it to a local station and they hooked it up to a machine on the spot for Free. My first experience with Toyota. Unimpressed. read more

I called and told the sales guy I would be there in 15 minutes. When i arrived to continue discussing a car we spoke about the previous day, i found that he was involved in an altercation with another employee. I had to wait 30 minutes before another salesman was assigned to me. We re-discussed everything from the previous day and I showed them an offer from a competing dealer. We agreed to test drive the car. It took almost an hour for them to physically locate the vehicle. Then I had to wait about twenty minutes for the finance manager. I was told that I had to take delivery prior to the end of the month, but since I work two hours away we agreed to a "paper" delivery which meant completing all the documents prior to pickup. I wanted to put down a deposit so I went to the bank to get a check. When I returned the sales manager took the check and without checking with the finance manager, wrote a receipt and said we were all done and that I should go home. I left and fifteen minutes received a call From the other sales guy saying he didn't know why I had been sent away but that I needed to come back. I turned around and headed back and was told that now there were 3-4 people in front of me waiting to see the finance manager. It took another two hour for me to finally meet with her (on Black Friday weekend they have 1 finance person supporting 15 sales people). As I was waiting I saw several televisions being handed out to customers and i remembered that my salesperson had mentioned getting a TV when you buy a call (an offer a competitor dealer makes in their commercials). I asked about it and was told only if Intake delivery of the car that day. Since we were doing a "paper delivery" I felt I should get the TV (in addition to the fact that at this point I had been at the dealer for over five hours. The sales man sent the sales manager over and he explained that because they had taken a loss on my vehicle that I wasn't entitled to the TV. I asked if this meant that everyone who gets a tv overpaid for their car and he said "what I'm not allowed to earn $100 bucks on a deal"? So I asked him why he made a losing deal with me and he said he was investing in future business and service. I explained that if it takes five hours to just buy a car I would be hesitant to wait while my car was serviced. He then told me I had not been waiting for five hours.", or essentially calling me a liar. I arrived at 10:15 and we were speaking at 3:15. Finally I met with the finance manager and she at least didn't make me spend another hour as sellers no unneeded extras. Let's see how the pickup goes next week. Everyone here has remained polite & respectful to us, before & after our purchases. This particular Toyota dealer has a great deal going on where they offer a bunch of free stuff-oil changes, registration & inspections, etc- for life as long as you go there-no problem! They dealt with my insurance switch over, were great about getting back in touch with me when I had questions, & I know this shouldn't be something we still have to deal with, but has been a problem in other dealerships I've visited...the "Little Lady" issue where they treat you like a total idiot if you're an unaccompanied female shopper. There was and never has been one bit of that at this place & I truly appreciated & noticed it! It makes a big difference to be treated fairly & equally! We have been working with Chris, but some of the other sales staff we've dealt with have been equally awesome. First time shopping for a car. At 23 years old, most of the dealerships actually don't show that much interest or respect seeing as how young I am. I am certain that Nardy Honda (Smithtown Honda) even thinks that I was just joyriding when I was testing out cars... This was one of the few places that showed me respect and cared to actually try and sell me on the car. Maybe it was luck my salesman drove a Prius, but that was in the end the car I ended up going with. I got a great deal on it as well. No bullshit fees. Granted the only thing I probably could've gotten for lower were the addons (extended warranty plus the remote start). I didn't know I could even bargain with that until I already finalized. Meh, I don't really care that much about it. After all, they need to make some money, and I don't think that they made any on the car at all. I managed to snag a new 2013 Prius 3 for a lil' over 25k. I am happy. Car drives nice. Salesman was nice and supportive and showed me the car. 0% financing for 60 months is also ridiculous... Literally no interest at all. I'm 56 years old and have purchased and leased through many dealerships NEVER having had a bad experience. That is, until dealing with the sheisters at Smithtown Toyota. I was pricing a new car lease and gave them a price I wanted to pay. The salesman told me he'd have to check with his manager and asked me to give him a few hours. By the time I returned home I had two messages telling me they could give me the car at the price I wanted. This was on a Thursday. That Monday I returned to complete the paperwork. I signed the contract and left a $500 deposit. That's when the fun began. The sales manager came over shook my hand and said they made a 'MISTAKE'. I told them there's no mistake because I signed the contract. They said its not good until he approves it. My claim was that I signed the contract. The salesman called me back the weekend having received an approval, and if they couldn't do the deal they had three (3) days to let me know. But they waited until I signed and put my credit card down. I didn' want to even hear their reason. This is BAIT & SWITCH at its worst. I had a signed contract and they wouldn't give it to me. BEWARE - BAIT AND SWITCH.. UPDATE --- Oh yes.... I obtained the same car I wished (1 month later) at SUNRISE TOYOTA without even a hic-cup. read more
