I had my 20-year-old tanzanite ring resized at this store and was disappointed with the outcome. The center 2.5-trillion-cut tanzanite was not removed before resizing, and a few hours after picking it up, the stone fell out. I later discovered cracks and chips in the exact areas where the prongs had been holding it. I provided photos of the damaged stone and the empty setting. In addition, I sent a copy of the original appraisal certificate to help resolve the issue, but the store DECLINED to REPLACE the STONE or Offer ANY COMPENSATION. I understand that mistakes can happen, but this was a meaningful piece to me, and damage could have been avoided with proper care. I hope the store will reconsider how they handle delicate stones in the future. VERY Disappointing Experience. I would not recommend using their repair service. read more

I came in to have a watch band replaced and the jeweler while asking about the watch almost berated me for buying it on a cruise and not from a local jeweler like him. He's also said that the watch was not a good brand and that he never heard of it. He had great difficulty replacing the watch band and took a long time doing it blaming it on the watch. Three months later my watch band breaks and I bring it to another jeweler to replace the band being frustrtaed that the band broke in such a little amount of time. The new jeweler told me that the post to hold the band on the watch was totally wrong and was forced into place which is what caused the watch band to break. On top of that the jeweler had a whole display of watches that were the brand of my watch that the jeweler in smithvile told me were cheap and that he never heard of. The jeweler at smithvile is either an idiot, senile, incompetent or dishonest and I will never set foot in that store again. I urge you not to patronize this store as he does not know what he is doing and in addition is very condescending. Horrible establishment. read more

They are rude and condescending. I live very close and have been there a number of times to buy jewelry but ended up leaving because of their nasty remarks which among other things questioned if I could afford their prices. I also went there to replace batteries in my diamond watch and had to listen to their snide remarks about my watch being an overpriced fashion watch. I recently bought a tanzanite ring that I want to add a diamond halo to and even though in would be easier to walk across the street to have it done I will not subject myself to their rudeness. read more

I took a ring in that my Daughter in law brought me back from the Philippines. A couple of the stones had come out of the setting they were in. So I took it in to see what if any thing could be done. I was not even sure if the ring was real or not. I was told by them It was and worth about 1500 dollars. I was actually shocked. They even went as far as handing me an insurance brochure and suggested I insure it. We discussed the work to be done which included a sizing. 2 days later got a call they could not size and it was not real I asked if they could replace the stones he said yes so I left it at that. Today Smithville jewelers resized 2 of my rings & fixed a necklace charm that was broken. They did a great job. Other jewelers wanted to charge me a priority fee of $70 plus the fee to fix the rings because I refused to leave my diamond jewelry to be sent out. I wanted to wait for it. I brought my 80 year father in to get his watch band adjusted ... while we were there someone came in went behind the counter without a mask - I told him my father has cancer and he told me he needs his hip replaced- never putting on a mask ... we got out of there as soon as possible - I called today - they denied he was an employee and apologized - Very cold to deal with - have no knowledge of Rolex watches - I would never use them again. read more

I needed replacement batteries for several watches. The prices were on the high side but I decided to have one of mine replaced. As I watched it became clear that he was having some difficulty. He finally returned the watch, saying that he replaced the battery but the watch still wasn't working. I don't know whether he damaged it or not but he was clearly incompetent and clumsy with his hands. I would recommend not using this shop for repairs. read more

Most offensive jewelry business. NEVER AGAIN! I've lived in the area for a few years and have been in the store many times browsing and have even bought a few pieces through the years. My first negative experience was when I brought in a sapphire and diamond ring to be sized. The jeweler looks at the ring under the microscope and says, "I have to check if it's real or not first." I wrote it off as a joke and laughed to which I realized he was serious. I continued with the sizing and wrote it off as a bad day and a little rude. Same thing happened when I went to the store to have the battery replaced on my Burberry watch a year later....noted! Rude once more asking if it was real and he even stated, "looks fake". Final straw with this awful establishment....my boyfriend proposed and we picked out a ring at Jewelers row in Philly. Took the ring one last time to this local jeweler for sizing. Again he told me he wanted to check if it was real because it looked fake. Now I'm really angry. To make things even worse the guy wants me to sign a waiver to have the ring fitting just in case the side diamonds pop off during sizing since they are "incredibly small". While I understand they want to inform potential customers of anything that could possibly go wrong, there is a way to talk to people without telling them their jewelry looks "fake" "cheap" "small" etc. took my ring to the Diamond Mine in Manahawkin instead and had a much better experience. If you want a jeweler who is rude, condescending, and makes you feel like your precious meaningful jewelry is equivalent to trash by all means go here. My advice to this establishment, send the jeweler to a class on how to have kindness and integrity with customers...or better yet, get a new jeweler before he ruins your entire business. My experience was the complete antithesis to one review who said they were rude when questioning the value of their jewelry. Quite the contrary, as soon as "the pop" only looked at my ring he said to my boyfriend and "I recommend u insuring that ring" He has a long history evaluating jewelry and knows superior and inferior quality "at a glance" He would never offend anyone, he just shares his endless knowledge of jewelry only wanting to guide u in the right direction to make best jewelry choice in quality nd in price. I had a diamond I was afraid to bring to another jeweler because of fraud that sadly exists. In fact I brought my diamond to the Hamilton Mall and asked one jeweler if he thought my ring was valuable he said "naw" not that valuable. Thank goodness I didn't do business with him. My fiancé had a terrible experience here when trying to get my engagement ring. I didnt want anything over the top or big. He had in mind what he knew I'd like. This woman kept pushing him to get another ring....saying that the other bigger sizes looked nicer. Trying to upsell of course. And he insisted on the one that he wanted for me. He said he wanted a blue sapphire and the woman lied saying they didnt have any and that he would have to wait until they come back from this show. She ended up pulling out a bag of them from the safe...my fiancé was like I thought you didnt have any? She said oh these are lab made though. So there's that. Despite what happened I decided to go back to this place to check out wedding bands. We walk in and a man greeted us and asked if we needed help. The same mean woman that gave my fiancé trouble was there. He came over and I was like I got my engagement ring here! He was like ooo let me see so I showed him. He was standing like 5 feet away from me and said "oh I see you have residue under there" He was asking me if I wash my hands and put lotion with it on. I was like huh??? Like how the hell can he see that from far away and on my finger?? Yea ok. He was like oh we can work with this. I was thinking aww how nice he's going to polish my ring for me but no. Hes like I see you have a diamond thats not in place. It's loose. We can fix that for you. He just took it and walked away! First off, dont just take my ring and walk away assuming I want it fixed right then and there. That was sooo rude. My fiancé and I were shocked and confused. He went to the back to give it to the jeweler and I swear there were more and more things wrong with the ring. I was like ok whats going on? How much is this going to cost? "Oh we will take care of it. It wont be much." Like give me a straight answer. After going back and forth, we decided to just have them look at it and try to fix it. The jeweler said its not possible they will have to ship it to California and call me when its ready. We ended up leaving and I just had an uneasy feeling. It was super sketchy. We ended up going back a few minutes later and they werent expecting us. They were caught off guard. My fiancé asked exactly what was happening. I just said I wanted my ring back we will take the business elsewhere. The man kept insisting that they will take care of it. Finally, he gave in. The woman grabs the bag with my ring in it from the safe THEN they say they lost my diamond and I was like WHAT how do you manage to do that?? "Diamonds bounce but we will find it." The man kept blaming me saying because it was loose like no. It wasnt loose at all, the jeweler messed with it trying to shift it THEN it had gotten loose and you LOST MY DIAMOND!! We stayed there while they tried to find it and we were just furious. How can you see residue under my ring from 5 feet away but cant find the diamond you lost in this 2 foot perimeter. Fishy Customers were starting to come in and I can tell they were nervous. JUST SO HAPPENS the exact diamond that fits that ring they had on hand. Mind you, this was a CUSTOM RING from CA...how did they have the exact size, shape and cut? I call BS. This place is the worst. If you're a jeweler you should be able to fix these simple problems. I brought my wedding band and engagement ring to the Smithville Jeweler to have it rhodium plated, cleaned and inspected for any loose diamonds and prongs. My ring had been repaired in the past by a different jeweler who has since retired and that is what lead me to Smithville Jeweler. I left my rings with one of the workers and was told the jeweler would be in contact with me and that it should be done in 10 days. 2 days later a women from the store called me back to ask what I wanted done with the rings. I found this interesting as I had the receipt and the receipt had what I wanted done written down on it. I explained to her what I wanted and she relayed that to a man in the background (I'm assuming the jeweler). The jeweler asked some questions which I couldn't hear, the women then repeated them to me and she relayed my answers back to the jeweler. This went on 3 or 4 times before I just said can I speak to that person you keep talking too and cut out this middleman nonsense. She put him on the phone and he explained to me that it costs $65 per ring to rhodium plate it and that it would need to be cleaned before he did that. If he cleans it diamonds could pop out and if that happens (which he led me to believe would happen) it would cost $75 to replace each diamond. He said the prongs were bent and overall the ring looked like there had been a lot of wear and tear on it. I went back and forth with him, asking him a number of questions and he finally said, "I would suggest just putting your diamond into a new setting, I don't see the point in throwing good money on bad and truthfully I don't even want to put this into my machine". He said the setting wasn't that good and that the prior jeweler who had fixed it didn't do a good job on it. I picked my rings up that day and found a different jeweler. This new jeweler I went to, said the setting and repair job was fine, he cleaned my rings, inspected my rings, fixed some loose prongs, soldered both my rings together and rhodium plated both of them for $60.00 and it was done in 3 hours. I have no clue why I got the run around from the Smithville Jeweler. If he didn't want to work on my ring, I think he should have just said so instead of making up excuse after excuse. read more

Brought my fiance's ring in to be resized in early January, the owner asked if it was one of theirs and I responded no to which he made it seem like we were dumb for coming in. He then told me that his guy might not be able to resize silver (strange thought???) and he would call whether or not he could do it. Never received a call until it was finished about a week later. Cut to about a week ago, the ring snapped off my fiance's finger when she grabbed a shoe on a shoe rack at Ross. I really couldn't believe it, the weld job on it was pretty terrible considering I gave this guy $50. This ring wasn't very expensive but the fact he did such a poor job and had a such a terrible attitude definitely made me think "Why would I ever shop or bring jewelry here again?". I do not recommend, find a more friendly place to go. read more

Wow, what a horrible experience. I have a ring and one of the small diamonds fell out. I took the ring to Smithville Jewelers to see if they could replace the diamond. The older woman I spoke to was very nice when explaining to me that they could repair it but they would not guarantee the repair due to the age and condition of the ring. The repair man chimed in that he wanted to see the ring. Upon looking at it he literally told me the ring was "cheap" and he wouldn't "touch it with a 10 foot poll." Me being from New Jersey and not really ever dealing well in subtlety responded with "ok, you don't have to be a dïck about it." The man laughed at me and told me my ring would fall apart if he touched it and I should "just return it to whatever retail store it came from." What an ass!!!! I will NEVER return to this store and I will highly recommend that no one else use it either. Entirely unprofessional! read more

I'll be in Smithville this weekend and wanted to look around and buy some gifts for mothers day (including jewlery) but after reading the reviews I would NEVER bu anything from here. Customer service is really cut and dry and knowing how to talk to people isn't very difficult at all. What is the most puzzling to me is how the owners themselves are making excuses for the jeweler. Hello! You are losing business..... because to put it bluntly....... this guy is an asshole! You actually said "Giving a ring size is not fair to the customer" "There are different ring measuring devices for ring sizes. A thin ring takes one device, a thick ring takes another. Walking around our village has a tendency to swell the fingers, hence an incorrect size for a ring that may be purchased in the future or on line." So how about the jeweler tells the customer just that "It sometimes depends on the band width and type of ring, but I will happily measure your finger with both devices to give you an approximate idea". I bet if a customer wanted to buy a ring... he would measure it right away, so what's the difference? The comments that have been quoted on here by the jeweler are insane! Bottom line... It's a shame that the owners would continue to allow this and would also continue to lose business and money over someone with his lack of character. read more
