Definitely an interesting place that reminded me a lot of the old dive bars I frequented back in my NYC days. It's right off Bridgeway, which is one of the main drags in Sausalito it seems. A lot of options surprisingly for a bar of this type, but we just went with $4 Bud bottles. You can even buy beers for other people (and have some bought for you in return) on their chalkboard behind the bar. This place also sells cigarettes and random chips and snacks, making it truly a Swiss Army Knife of dive bars. The bartender during the day was very tired, and questioned my friend's enthusiasm for AC/DC on their digital (so high-tech) jukebox, but she was mostly busy hanging up Halloween decorations. Her two dogs also appeared later in the day as guest stars, but mostly kept to themselves. The bar has around 4 pool tables, but it seems only 1 or 2 work. They have shuffleboard, which is a huge win, but there's no numbers written on it, so I don't see a way to keep score. Fail. I didn't play darts, and didn't see where they were located in the bar either. It has a few TV's too, and we were greeted with a lovely episode of Jerry Springer when we walked in (18, Pregnant, and Single, or something of that sort). The jukebox doesn't have any credits on it for the bar to play music out of when no one is pumping money into it, so there were often periods of awkward silence. I felt compelled just to play music to avoid the silence. But at $1.00 and getting only 2 songs, "Born to Run" and "Atlantic City" by the Boss was all I could muster. At least it filled up about 10 minutes of dead air. Probably not in huge rush to come back (although at 1pm on a questionable Monday Columbus Day holiday weekend, I shouldn't be surprised it was dead), but definitely a memorable place in this seaside village. read more

People throw around the term "dive bar" to describe a lot of places that are not dive bars. THIS is a dive bar in all the good ways. There are cheap beers on tap and some very cool local beers on tap, salty dogs hanging out at the bar, pool tables, and a casual attitude. The bartenders are very friendly and welcoming and make you feel like a regular. read more

I am not a huge fan of dive bars because I care more about the beer than how sticky my seat is, which is why the three stars, but if you are into dive bars then this may be a 5 star place for you. I love dive bars and was excited to try Smitty's based on the mostly positive reviews. We walked in and immediately got nauseous. This place is gross, smells like a men's urinal, and makes me want to report it to the health department. Disgusting. I couldn't even finish my drink because of the smell. I understand its a "locals" bar, but come on how do those locals take that smell and not question the sanitation of their food or drinks coming out? The waitress also served my drink in a warm glass which immediately melted the ice, which in turn made the drink hard to go down as well. read more

We came into Smitty's upon the recommendation of the guys who work at Bike Odyssey around the corner and down the street. We were having some things installed on a bike in a hurry and had some wait time. We came here and had a drink and watched the World Series for a bit. Great Bar! We even bought a round for the Bike Odyssey guys in absentia for when they got off work. Interesting crowd. Good mix of people. If I lived or worked nearby, I would be a regular. read more

True dive bar. Everything you would want TV's pool tables and darts. Plus there Bloody Mary mix is made in house and has the perfect ratio of spice and heat. Defiantly recommend. Stop by for a beer ended up staying for 3, go figure. read more

Hey I met my husband here in 1984 and still married to him! The one last "real" bar in all of Marin County. Full of locals, fishermen, sailors and young partiers! Had many wonderful times here back in the day and always stop in when I am in town-now live in Scottsdale, AZ and so glad to see Smitty's is still alive and well. The one star is for the fact that they have a foosball and pool table. The draft beer is lukewarm and if you order a vodka soda expect the soda to be flat. The bartenders are nice if you are a local sailor who has lived in Sausalito for the past 30 years. Don't expect them to give you a warm welcome if you're a tourist, took the ferry over from SF, or are a thirty-something who moved to the area a few years ago. I've been to this place a handful of times, hoping that I'll get a different outcome, but it's always the same. It's too bad it's one of the only dive bars in Sausalito...I'm sure they are aware of this so there's no need to be pleasant. I'd rather pay an extra $3-4 per drink and go somewhere else where the bartenders are actually friendly/acknowledge you and the drinks are good. read more

The best thing about this place is all the games they have to play, I always have fun here and it's not usually packed. However I always run into the same awkward situation when I want to pay. I don't every carry over than ten dollars on an average day and two beers here cost $12. However there is a minimum charge on your card of $15(which I think is illegal to force a minimum charge buy I don't know for certain. I don't like feeling pressured to make that difference up by tipping, which you awkwardly have to tell the bar tender how much you want to tip when she swipes the card. Not a bad spot for a casual couple of drinks. 30s-40s crowd, generally friendly vibe. More of a working-class feel than you might find at No Name, which suits me fine. Good amount of pool tables, a couple of tvs, friendly bar staff. Shuffleboard table is a plus though it's usually busy. A pint runs about $5, not bad. Mixed drinks pretty typical. Rum/Coke, G&T, and so on. Smitty's is the sort of bar you come to when you want a good, casual time without a bunch of pretentious nonsense. read more

Smitty's is definitely an "oh no, wait. That IS her real face" kind of bar on any given night. It's the kind of place that you could walk in one night and have a blast, only to start a fight the next. You just never know. Halloween at Smitty's is INSANE. I couldn't bring myself to go in costume, but sort of wish I had because so many people were dressed up. This is the night when the pickled regulars go all out and really bring the heat. Live band, dancing ghouls and witches, lots of beverages sloshing around in the humidity. You could tell that the patrons were really into Halloween and out to hurt themselves in the celebration. It seemed like a nice bar with a plethora of regulars. When I went it was relatively quiet aside from the bar which was full. It definately screamed out as a regulars place with their buy boards on the back wall (X will buy Y, Z number drinks). Sadly no Guinness on tap and even in the middle of the week with a mostly empty space parking was non existent. read more

Poor mans Silver Peso! This is my local bar/hang out and have been coming here for longer than I wish to publish. I have to laugh at the comments about "Cougars" in this place. If you are a "Cougar" and go in here you really need your head examined. Even the occasional Manther is way out of place here. This is a "Dive Bar" and I don't say that in a bad or malicious way. Love me some Shitty's ! considering I was born in Sausalito and everyone at the bar knows me since, well, I was in diapers, I am deff a local. This bar is great because the drinks are pretty cheap and the people are always crazy. My younger brother plays pool there all the time and loves it. My dad comes in for drinks so sometimes it's a family gathering. My bestfriend and I have had many a great night at smittys since ...well since we could drink legally and probably before that. And yes the half priced pizza is great. Sometimes smittys is hit or miss but when its good its good. I do like it better than duece and peso. read more

Schmitty's as we used to call it is classic. Used to live by here. Great shuffleboard and four pool tables. Not too crowded. Great place to relax after work in marin, have a few beers and play pool with your co-workers. The single's scene for 20 year olds is non existent however.
