This is a new location on Canton Road so I'm not sure about the previous references to a prior Shane's location. We ate here on Feb 11, 2017. The ribs and brisket were great. Service hasn't particularly improved since they opened and they continue to struggle with register operations. This is a very viable option for BBQ in Cobb County! We got two platters, which each come with 2 sides. The first platter was pulled pork with Brunswick stew and onion rings, and the second platter was beef brisket with mac and cheese and baked beans. The brisket was great -- tasty and moist -- and there was a good mix of "wet" and "dry" brisket, meaning the fatty and lean parts of the beef. The mac and cheese was creamy but cheesy and yummy! The baked beans had just the perfect amount of sweetness. The onion rings were well fried and not oily at all. The meat servings were a good size. All in all, the meat was good and the sides were solid, too. The slice of Texas toast that comes with each platter is a great touch! You order at the counter and your food is brought out to you in about 5-10 minutes. I was impressed that one of the co-owners stopped by to check on us a few times. One time, he sincerely asked for feedback about the food. We discussed the different kinds of BBQ sauce and the nuances of cooking the brisket. He was friendly, and I perceived that he really wanted honest feedback in order to improve the food and experience. Inside, there are tables, small booths, and big booths that would hold 6 people. When I first rolled up to the location I was worried it wasn't a named chain anymore but my worries were unfounded. The food is just as good as, if not better than, before. The staff is great as well. We order a lot of pulled pork, lemon pepper wings and Brunswick stew are very, very good. Lastly, it's nice to go into a restaurant and get service without waiting or oddly enough, being turned away. We eat a lot of BBQ. We've eaten BBQ in just about every town we've visited from Florida to Alaska and Texas to Ohio. We do actually have a couple of places we'll take the 2 hour drive to get to. Smitty's is across the street. Literally, across the street. The first time I went the owner was there and was excited to tell me all about the sauces. He wanted me to try his Carolina sauce on the brisket almost to the point of insisting I do so I took a go-cup of it with me. Not my speed -- I'm a "taste the meat" fan. The place was really clean then, too. Fast forward to about my 5th visit. It seems the quality and cleanliness has gone down slightly with every visit. Today was the worst and will make me reconsider my next visit. It's convenient because I work out behind it and it's on my way home. Today I ordered a chicken breast for my wife -- got home and it was a leg quarter. She won't eat it. I ordered 1/2 pound of brisket - its just not the quality of what I got the first time. Worst of all the ribs today were a total disappointment. At home, I smoke my ribs for at least 5-6 hours over oak or hickory smoke. 3-4 hours in the smoke and another couple of hours in foil. They fall off the bone but they're never burned. Smitty's ribs today were crispy. Black, crunchy pig--formerly meat. I also thought I'd try the fried okra; I'm a big fan. I think this came from WalMart in the frozen vegetables section. Something else gets me and I'm seeing it more and more at these new pay kiosks: tip everyone before you're served. So I walk in, place a $40 order and the girl stands there to see if I'm going to tip her for a walk-up take-out. Smitty, you had so much promise. read more

I stopped by today to get one of there dinners that feed 8. I will start by telling you my order was 100% complete. The boneless chicken wings were huge and delicious. The smoked wings big and jucy. The pork and chicken were awesome and the macaroni and cheese and baked beans were unbelievable. The dinner came with Texas toast and a gallon of sweet tea. The inside was spotless clean and the 2 gentleman working were very attentive to me getting what I ordered. Lockdown is a huge Letdown. I was super excited to have a new BBQ place not even 5 minutes from my house and finally got a chance to order through UberEATS (the wife had the car with the child seats). Boy was I disappointed. The pork was super dry and had zero flavor. They also didn't send any sauce? What BBQ place doesn't send sauce? The stew was lackluster and the grilled chicken tenders were way over cooked and very dry. The only GOOD thing we received was the Mac and cheese. It's pretty dang good. Doesn't look like much from the road but the food is legit. I had ribs, pork and chicken. All were good. Ribs could have been a little more tender but they were still great. I also had cole slaw and Brunswick stew. Cole slaw was on the drier side which I prefer. I didn't love the Brunswick stew but it's s only because I like mine a little thicker and more tomato flavor. On phone and irritated that she had to take our order. There were four of us. One of us never got food and had to have it boxed to go. Had to return coleslaw as it was a funny grey color. Smitty's was pretty good. I was actually pleasantly surprised not really knowing what to expect. It's a colorful establishment complete with a mock jail cell as your dining area. I tried the rib tip combo which came with two sides and a drink. The tips were pretty legit. They were actually grilled which I liked. Had a little texture and they were covered in sauce. The collard greens were cooked with turkey which was a plus but there maybe been something missing. But overall they got the job done. I prefer a baked Mac and cheese covered in that too layer of cheese. But this one was more of a cream sauce with penne noodles. Still tasty but not exactly what I was expecting. I know it may seem like I wasn't exactly pleased but I was. The food was tasty and I'd definitely go back and work my way down the menu. And make sure you check in for your free dessert the peach cobbler had plenty of crust!!!! read more

The Brisket!!! That's all I got to say! The first time I came here, the brisket was so tender and juicy, and absolutely heavenly. I've noticed the last 3 times I've been there, the brisket was served hard, dry, and slightly bland. I'm not sure if it's the time of day that we come, but I've noticed inconsistencies. I personally love all the sauces they offer and the corn nuggets! I could go corn nugget crazy! Those things are the best! Employees and management are very friendly. I can't complain there. Tried this out on opening day. Service was smooth and ordering was good even though they are working on learning the system. We tried a pork sandwich with potato salad, 2 meat plate with pulled pork, brisket, fries and baked beans and last a kids grilled cheese with broccoli. The pork was great even without sauce. The brisket also great. Potato salad and fries good but baked beans a little watery. The kids grilled cheese is a nice size but needed to be grilled a little longer as it was a grilled kissed cheese sandwich. The kid ate it all though. Broccoli was fantastic. Here is the down part. The "plates" the food comes out on is a metal tray with a paper cover. As you know bbq and many sides are wet/greasy. It makes for a mess when cutting anything with plastic cutlery. Fries would not have been my first choice of sides but I planned on sharing my food with my toddler and he likes fries. My husband ordered the pulled pork plate with baked beans and mac-and-cheese. He chose the mac and cheese for my son to eat. The chicken, pork, and beans were really good. The mac and cheese was OK and the fries were not memorable. I would not order them again. The thing that pushed the food from good to really good was the selection of BBQ sauces. We've ordered from Lockdown a dozen times via Uber Eats and they've missed an item in our order 95% of the time. A few times I've called they actually had someone drive to our house and drop it off but it's literally almost every single time we order to go they forget something. Tonight they forgot (2) orders of Banana Pudding which is the best we've ever had. I spoke to the manager Fry and he wasn't helpful whatsoever. Their food is actually really good but customer service and their ability to follow simple directions is elementary. Seems like customer service is going downhill around East Cobb.
