Stopped in here September 2023 for a smog test and the technician said I had a code and would not pass me and I paid the $60.00. All they do here is smog test so not a lot of money making options. No dashboard lights on, car running perfect so I headed home. My neighbor brought his code reader over and everything tested with a green check mark. I immediately went back to this location, plugged in MY machine and showed the same technician the green check marks. He said pull the car in and 5 minutes later he passed me. Something seemed a little iffy here as I was charged another $50.00, $111.00 he made off me. I was told about shops failing people in order to collect additional fees. I'm not saying that's what happened here but it crossed my mind. I won't go back for a smog test here. read more

In all honesty, I chose Smog Dog for my recent smog test partly because of the good reviews and partly because "dog" is in their name and I like dogs. Having established that my decision making criteria is pretty simple, I had a great experience with getting a ten year old truck smogged here. The person I spoke with was pleasant and efficient and the process itself was quick. I brought my knitting with me thinking I'd have a much longer wait and only finished a couple of rows before it was done. They also electronically forward your results to the DMV which is handy. I highly recommend this place,we went for a smog check as a walk-in and they were very helpful and were done quickly.

Took my vehicle into Smog Dog for smog inspection. Called ahead of time as it was a larger vehicle. Gary seemed knowledgeable and recommended high octane gas and to drive it around for 25-50 miles before hand, which I did. After helping him get to the engine, I went to get some coffee while he did the test which he quoted "about 40 minutes". 20 minutes later i was surprised to see a text that "your vehicle is done" so I head back. I come back to find another vehicle already in the bay and I'm wondering why he didn't actually do the smog test. Gary greets me at the check out counter and says "I got bad news, your check engine light is out which means an automatic fail." I then ask, "what about the smog test? Did I at least pass that?" to which he responded, "I can't even do the test with the engine light out". At this point I'm thinking, "ok...so he didn't do the test and I need to get my engine light replaced? Got it". To my shock, Gary proceeds to ring me up for $170?!?! I stop him and ask, "so you're charging me $170 to tell me my check engine light is out?!?!" to which he responds, "yeah, I'll have to do the whole test over". Gary sees I'm perplexed and frustrated at being charged $170 to tell me my engine light is out and says, "tell you what, I'll knock $20 off". Wow! I leave $150 poorer and go to my trusted local mechanic Julio just up the street. I explain the situation to him and another mechanic in the front office and they both laugh and proceed to inform me that "any decent smog tester will let you know your engine light is out before testing further. Sound like he's running a scam over there.". They then recommend M&D Smog & Service just up the street (760.365.9336). I call them and not only do the not charge anything for checking the engine light, they only charge $100 to smog test the same vehicle that Smog Dog charges $170 for. I'm short; save your money and support local businesses that don't completely rip off poor working class, handicapped citizens like myself. Never again Smog Dog! read more

Dude was pretty rude from the moment I walked in, maybe upset because he had to do some actually work or I brought business? While waiting some uncomfortable arguing going on at the front desk by the people running the shop. After completing the service I had to look for my car and he just leaves my car in that garage and I had to back it up and drive it out myself? Pretty quick. Office was fairly clean and decent. Friendliness was good. I think his dad was there behind the counter. He was extremely friendly and enjoyed talking. Would have preferred that he inform me about automatic disqualifying issues prior to the test before he ran the test and ran my card. In my case, I had a missing sensor. I've had other issues, less obvious then the sensor, and taken my vehicle to get smogged other places and the owners, although within their right to continue the test and charge me, they choose to ask me if I'd like to continue and give me options. It is a nice gesture and makes me want to continue my business with those businesses for future smog tests. However, the man running my test did inform me I had 90 days to fix the issues and bring the vehicle back to be retested without being charged again. Passed with flying colors the second time. read more

Took my mom & her car for smog certification to the Yucca Valley location on 09/20/21. While moving her car into the service bay, the mechanic noticed her brakes were not working properly. (I had noticed it too, but thought the car might have been sitting awhile needed to warm up). Her car had rear brakes that were leaking fluid & the pads were wet.
