I chose VIP because they have a large parking lot, and I have a Sprinter motor home and needed room to maneuver around. The Sprinter's chassis was built in 2016, and the custom rebuild was performed in 2017, so Bob wanted to ensure the dates were correct so the DMV wouldn't refuse the smog registration. He made some phone calls and stuck with it until he was satisfied it would go through. The end result: the DMV accepted his explanation, and I received my sticker. I would not recommend this shop to anyone. Bob did not scan my vehicle to verify if the monitors were cleared prior to him running a complete test and failing my vehicle. he just jumped into giving my girlfriend a failed certificate so he could charge 50$ and then reassured her that he would wave the retest fee and she would only have to pay 8$. well I guess he forgot about the deal he told me I'd have to pay another 58$ to retest and get a certification. Wow this is wild when I've never been treated like this at smog dog or smoggies. I'm actually a mechanic I thought the monitors were cleared my fault, but I know most shops scan the car and will not charge a customer unless the car is ready to smog... just don't go here save your money downtown shell in Palm Springs has a smog for 39.99 save your money don't go here! My friend recommended Bob to me , and since I am not from the area, that was a helpful start. I dropped in because my van had not started that morning, and it was the 4th time i had had the issue wthin about 6 weeks(no response when turning the key). While I knew it was something in conjunction with the starter/relay system, I knew no more. Well, one thing more - that I HAD to get it looked at before heading nack cross country and having t not start for real somewhere out a hundred miles from the next mechanic at 8 o'clock on a Saturday night. Since I was a walk-in and he was with another person, Bob asked me to return in about an hour. Then, he went right to work and diagnosed the issue and repaired it readily. He was very good with communication, and explained things is layperson terms alongside the technical ones without so much as a hint of condescending attitude(which does happen at times). He even took the time to physically point out the area in reference. Sure I have had mechanics do that before, but it's NOT always the case. I will recommend VIP whenever asked about a mechanic in Yucca Valley, and since I am a rock climber and that town is right near a major climbing area, it's pretty likely that even from across the country, I will have that opportunity when someone comes to the climbing discussion forums asking for a referral. Do not trust Robert "Bob" Garcia and his wife. I made an appointment for a smog check and it was started a half hour late. After he finishes the test he tells me everything passed but the gas cap and that I have to buy an over priced cap from him or I can't pass the test. He wouldn't let me go buy another one so I had to wait another 20 minutes for a cap to be delivered. So on top of making me late for the DMV he scammed an extra 25 dollars from me. It was a brand new gas cap so I know he's lying. He did the same exact thing to the customer before me. Seriously, do not trust this scammer. read more

After a frustrating day Dealing with the DMV and having to pay some Tickets in order to try and renew my wife's registration which completely blind-sided me.. ( Wives and their damn tickets!! I was just about to say F this all to heck.. but I had to go to Yucca Valley to buy some food for the Critters and we looked for a place to get the smog checked. stopped behind the Starbucks and talked to a guy at the Quick Lube who recommended this place to us. he said that he was the cheapest ( price wise ) and thorough mechanic in the area. Of course we took this with a grain of salt. We arrived here to find the guy working in his garage.. Now at first mopst people may be put off by the appearance of this establishment but this is an all american GARAGE DAMNIT!! ha. sure a little dusty some clutter and the smell of .. well. Garage and MANLINESS.. it just seemed like a typical pops place.. where men do real manly work. any way we talked to a very nice Man ( Robert Garcia I believe was his name) who took care of us right there and then .. he said it would take about 30 minutes for the full check up and get our papers/certificate out the door.
