I picked up my little truck from the mechanic's today, and I'm alive to tell the tale. If not for the gentleman at Smoggy's (and I mean saint when I say gentleman), I might be pushing up daisies (and just two years before retirement). After my car was smog checked, this Prince told me, no insisted, I take my car to be checked or risk a complete system failure. That's the nice way of saying you are in grave danger. When my mechanic described what might have happened had I not come in, the pushing up daises image comes to mind (as well as my truck hurtling head over heals into space). I will be forever grateful to Smoggy's until the day I die (which is now a later date). They'll have all four of my vehicles from now on. Oh, and the customer ahead of me probably feels the same way. Stay away!!! Guy running this place is a scam artist! Will have you spending $$$ unnecessarily on a new cat! Mark, the guy that runs this place, does not do a visual inspection to let you know whether you might fail or not before starting the test. Stay away if you have a muddy cat. Or do his job for him, clean your cat before going. We have gotten our 1996 Jeep XJ smogged 2-3x here at this very same shop since we've lived in the desert (6yrs) and this year he decided to fail the Jeep with the same catalytic converters it's had for 10 years! Never failed smog before. He couldn't be bothered to use a green sponge to clean off the catalytic converters encrusted with mud. How Lazy can you be! Generally, he has a bad attitude towards customers. It's a mix of arrogance marked with superficial friendliness. We went home and cleaned up the cat and took it back to him. He admitted that they were the right numbers after all and that the cat was legal and fine, but he refused to test the car again. Now my car has a failed smog test on its record all because this person couldn't be bothered to clean off a bit of mud. DON'T GO HERE!!!! read more

I was there too late to do the necessary drive before closing time and they were not open the next business day when I needed it done. However, guy was very informative and spent 10 minutes to give me info which helped me get smogged on my way into dtla while following closely the prescription for a successful smog after changing my car battery. 5/5 Above and beyond service: Instructed to drive 60 minutes on fwy. Stop to let car coolant cool down 60 minutes and not a minute less, so I did some retail shopping. Fast and slow, variable speeds and various driving conditions for another chunk of time (I forgot but for my car, I did 30 minutes in freeway traffic, stop and go numerous times. Grateful so I decided to post this review even though I couldn't wait for the next day this business would be open to get my car smogged. This is a miracle success story for my 1998 Toyota Camry 172k miles. Engine has never given problems but was mostly sitting unused in desert for last 1-2 years. My engine sounds clean, no shakes or rattles or clicks or barely any leak with only basic maintenance, changed transmission and radiator about 5k and 2k miles ago so likely one of those ugly duckling cars that will last over 200k miles as a wonder miracle car that has served me well and hope to pass this miracle car to next person. This guy was so rude wanted to argue with me about testing in my home state. Said they only started testing 5 years ago. I said no over 20 years in fact since 1987. Would not wear a mask while in my car. I asked him to, said no, then I can't test your car. I said no you can't. Know it all argumentative unpleasant fellow. read more

Smoggy's - Smog Check Stations Near Me - Yucca Valley, California

Don't waste your time. I have reported this place to the (BAR) Bureau of Automotive Repair Consumer Affairs. This guy claims to know what he is talking about. He will talk to you like your friend till you have an issue. He made us waste over 400$ to try and fix our truck according to his standards for us to pass his test and was unsuccessful. After adding a 2nd Catalic Converter and running it over 1000 miles we still failed. Come to find out this was totally wrong we have a federal vehicle which only requires 1 CAT. Now we are told by the BAR REFEREE we need to take off both CATS and need a specific type of Catalic converter for our truck which this guy MARK MAYES should have told us. We have been told now by so many people this guy led us in the wrong direction. I will keep posting till this gets resolved I have to speak with my CASE BAR worker soon and will see where this goes. As far as I know i received a letter of approval (picture attached) for my case to be pushed forward. Avoid this place and GO SOMEWHERE ELSE save time, money and a headache. Recently moved to CA and needed to smog my cars for registration. The owner-operator is professional, friendly, and patiently explained all needed repair issues that came up when one failed and what should be done to address them. Has just the right blend of efficiency and customer service. Thanks again. Just remember, smog-test shops' job is to test and report--they just tell you what IS (it's a conflict of interest if they're the ones doing the repairs...)--it's the State that tells you what need to do to drive legally. read more

A horrible place. I should have followed the reviews NOT to go here. This review is from a year ago. I took my car here because I thought the guy was decent. When inquiring on smog check the place was busy and the guy was nice and helpful. When I returned a few days later the guy was alone and a total jerk. I wish I had left my phone on an recorded him. He talked so loud an rudely to me. All I could say to him at the end was "if I weren't a lady I'd a slapped him an hour ago"...he failed my car which is fairly new and never failed smog before. I never thought someone could intentionally do this. I now know it's possible. Beware of this establishment....!!! read more

Bad customer service. Claims he can't give advice, does so anyway in the most condescending way. Expensive. Free retest has a catch- you still have to pay for certification... Does not do repairs. I would have reviewed higher if I hadn't been lied to or treated like an idiot. MARINES: Don't go here this guy will take advantage of you. The car passed smog with flying colors but he tried to tell me that the catalytic converter that had been on the car for 8 YEARS in California was the wrong part (wrong part # specifically) and every other mechanic and smog technician had lied to me. Therefore, He couldn't pass my smog test. If you have the time, go to Palm Springs for your smog tests where they told me this guy was lying. A total waste of $50. However, the business was clean and modern that's about it. read more
