Came here on a Saturday morning to get my smog test. We didn't realize that we needed to go to a star certified location so the first place we went wasn't able to help us I remembered seeing they had a groupon. Decided to call them and ask how busy they were and what extra charges they would have for an older suv car since every place pretty much charges extra for those. The gentleman on the phone was super nice and helpful, he even told me if I hadn't already purchased the groupon he would honor the price. When we got there I think there were about 3 cars ahead of us. The waiting area was very clean and comfortable. We decided to take a walk while our car was getting tested. We were in and out in about 30-45 minutes and it didn't even seem like a long time. Everyone was very respectful and seemed like they were genuinely happy to be there. I discovered this place by accident. My usual place on Monument Blvd. was closed and I had a coupon for this place that I had clipped out of the newspaper thinking that the other place would accept it, since I couldn't find a coupon for it. I have been bringing my vehicles here for several years. Always quick turnaround (even without appt) and friendly service.

My older 1995 vehicle needed to be STAR smogged. When calling for estimates and requesting quotes on Yelp, it yielded some very steep prices with one place nearby asking around $200. I understand vehicles older than 2000 need to be dyno'ed and EVAP tested among other things, but that's ridiculous. I finally came upon MN Star Smog with a recommendation from a buddy, and was he right. I messaged on Yelp, and Melvin came back with a $60 price OTD. I had to reply back to make sure that was correct for my year vehicle and he said yes. It's walk-in only, but when I arrived, I only waited about 5-10 minutes for another vehicle to finish up. Melvin did a great job at smogging my vehicle on the dyno and was done in about 20 minutes. If you have a vehicle older than 2000, or just need a vehicle to get smogged, look no more and just go to MN Star Smog. Great price and great service. And they even take credit cards without an extra fee. read more

For starters Melvin provided EXCELLENT customer service!! I made an appointment with another shop but the machine needed to smog my car was out of service, so they recommended MN Star Smog shop. So I immediately called to make an appointment and to get a price quote. Melvin said that I could come anytime before 6pm. Once I arrived at the shop I was greeted by Melvin and he explained how long the smog test would be and that I could wait in the little waiting area in the garage. During the check out process Melvin offered water, soda, candy and/or literature. I definitely will be going back. And yes, my truck passed smog!!! read more

Amir was great to work with! I was getting my car fixed next door at AAMCO. I asked if he can get my car from them as soon as it's finished and smog check it. I was able to finalize the details on the phone. He made it easy for me and will definitely take it there again in 2 years for the next smog check. It's not the cheapest rate you'll find. But if you don't want to deal with sorting through coupons in the mail, bring it here. Smog check cost is fair and the waiting area is really clean and roomy. Extremely friendly, very helpful and you can tell they genuinely care - if they notice anything in addition to what you are visiting them for, they will give you recommendations on how to address those issues as well. They answer your questions patiently and enthusiastically. The receptionist and owner are so friendly. The main office and waiting room are clean, comfortable, kept nice and cool, and are relaxing while you wait. I loved that they had music concerts playing on the waiting room TV rather than the news - much more enjoyable! They offered a great price for a car smog. Many car places have terrible service and technicians who talk down to you, but the customer service here is impeccable. When we walked in the lady at the front desk greeted us and told us she would be right with us as she was on the phone with another customer. Such a small thing but I appreciate those small details. After the short wait we were then processed by another nice gentleman who took our payment. All in all, we experienced such customer service from the people at MM Star Smog, I want to give them more service as a result. I don't usually write reviews but I have a 1998 vehicle that needed a smog. I dread the every 2 years that I need to get my smog check because there are alot of shops out there that do the bait and switch pricing or their smog techs don't seem to know what they're doing. This is the first time I've used MN Star Smog and Melvin was awesome. He's very professional, knowledgeable and courteous. This is going to be the smog inspection center that I'll be taking all of my vehicles for testing in the future. I highly recommend this place - trust me I'm very particular where I bring my cats to. Today I had a very unpleasant experience at MN Star Smog. As a loyal customer to this establishment I was left with an uneasy feeling. While waiting to have my car serviced. I watched in disbelief as employee Jeffrey Young began forging/counterfeiting a blank COVID-19 vaccination card. Another employee helped as they passed the forgery back and forth taking turns in falsifying COVID-19 doses from John Muir Medical then making a photo copy of the forgery and joking about how easy it was to falsify.This employee was also not wearing a mask despite customers and other employees present in a small confined space. I was appalled to see the blatant disregard for the law and will no longer be supporting this establishment. It is very upsetting to imagine that this person has been in many customers vehicles with such a blatant disregard for health and safety. Luckily I was with another person who witnessed this event take place. Hopefully Melvin Geovani Nisthal will attend to this urgent matter. read more

I found a deal on Groupon and also checked out the yelp reviews and decided to give this place a shot at getting our car smog tested. The receptionist was very welcoming and helpful. Got us checked in right away and set expectations for about 20-30 minutes. They have a nice waiting room with a tv. They also offered us water and gatorade as we waited on the hot day. Smog test done in 15 minutes and certificate submitted. Simple easy and very reasonable. I will return back for sure. read more
