The people are nice, it's fast, and you can get an appointment in likely on the same day (the first place I called was booked for a month out!). It was a very easy experience overall. The prices are on the wall when you walk in - somehow I missed this. But wow, what a premium you pay here. Originally it was going to be $88 after the $8 required fee. I showed a $20 coupon, so I was going to pay $68. Frustrated by this, I asked why it was so expensive. The answer I received was, "this is just what our prices are and have been." I asked if there was any way to stack coupons or get more off. The guy behind the counter said you can't stack coupons but did apply a better coupon ($30 off) for me. After the $30 off coupon, I still paid $58 for a smog check on a 2007 sedan. This is a lot - know what to pay. You can get smog checks for a noticeably cheaper amount at other places, even places down the street. Aside from the price, the people there were nice and it was done in less than 15 minutes. I appreciated being offered a better deal upon asking. I just wish I didn't have to ask, and $58 is still a lot. Maybe I'll go back if I win the lottery, but in the meantime I'll be taking my business to places with cheaper rates. read more

Stopped in without an appt and was in and out in 15-20 mins. Friendly service, and they upload the smog results into the DMV system so you don't have to remember to bring the certificate. However, at the DMV, they told me you should always get a paper copy just in case they didn't receive it. read more

Very happy with my experience here. I called them to make sure it was OK to stop by within an hour of closing and they told me to go ahead. When I arrived, the had had a walk-in customer in the time that I drove there. They let me know that it would be a few minutes until they could get to me but that they still would. The guy at the desk took care of all my paperwork that he could in advance. In the end, they still got me tested, paid, and all of the required data uploaded to the DMV before they closed at 6pm. I have gone to this location for 6 plus years now for Smog checks, and have always been in and out within an hour or less. This time was no exception. Was having a hard time with the transmission locking in Park and found out while I was there that the problem was a malfunctioning unit under the brake peddle which also caused me to have no brake lights. I asked them if they could repair this problem and they said they could. I came back later on after they had ordered the part delivered, and and was in and out in 20 mins. I first came here on Monday (10/2) and have a very pleasant experience with Tim Sierra. He tested both mine and my moms car. It was expensive, but it was a quick test and Tim was so great. Unfortunately, mine failed due to a small repair I had to make - PCV valve and breather hose needed to be replaced. I got it repaired and took it back today for the free retest that Tim promised me minus paying for the certificate. I walked in to a different man. He was older and quite frankly, an asshole. I never got his name. "Hi, I was here on Monday and failed my smog test. I got the issue fixed and am here for a free retest..." "No way. 10 dollars." "I was told I could get it retested for free by your other employee, but..." *I was about to tell him I know I have to pay for the certificate* "Not gonna happen... if I pay for the certificate you pay for it." "I am aware I have to pay for the certificate, but the test itself is free." "Where's the DMV paperwork?" "I don't have it, but the other guy said that was fine. I have the paperwork from Monday." *he started to strain his eyes to read my license plate number* "All of the information you need is on this paper." "It's also on that car right there." He then had me sign paperwork then got my car. He ran the codes on my car's computer then came in and asked "When did you get this fixed?" "Today. Why?" "It's going to fail if I test it again. You have to drive it so many miles before I can retest it. You have to look it up online how many miles your car needs." Then he brings my car back around, grabs my paperwork and goes back to the computer. Between him snapping at me from the moment I opened my mouth to his very annoyed body language, he completely ruined the first experience I had as I will never be back. My parents also bring their cars here and they will no longer be doing so as well. There were no other customers in the office and he was sitting on his ass before I got in there so there was absolutely no excuse for his horrible customer service. read more

I was helped by Mr Sierra, who was upbeat, welcoming, and thoroughly explained the process and costs. The office is super clean, with lots of magazines if that is your thing. I actually didn't get my smog check done here. I did go in and was quoted for $78 and I walked away. And about a mile down the same street I got it done for $28. (Both prices with coupons) I spent some time talking to them about their service and why they are expensive. You see most businesses wouldn't even spend that much time talking to you once you tell them they aren't getting your business. And they clearly are very customer focused and will work with you to help pass smog check. My take is that if your car is newer and if you are sure that it will pass smog, skip this place. It is expensive. But if your car is older and if you think there is a chance of it failing then this place is likely going to be worth the extra cost because you then need repair recommendations from them and then a retest. And in such a situation intimate knowledge of how the test works and how the vehicle works is important and that can save you big money in repair costs. And that's something you don't get at cheap smog places. Or if you don't care about the extra $50 every other year, just go here all the time and you will be in good hands. read more

I've been getting my cars checked here for years. I arrived for my 10am appt on the dot but waited 10-15 minutes for service. It pays to use a competitor's coupon, as the price is relatively high. But the guys who work here are very friendly, and Scott is the best! He'll cheer you up and put a smile on your face. A couple of caveats: 1) If your mobile carrier is AT&T, you'll get no service in this location. Supposedly there is wifi available for customers, but it's not posted (hint, hint, SK Owner). Even after Scott told me the network name, it never showed up in my iPhone's list. 2) No air conditioning in the waiting room. read more

I just got a smog check at Smog King in Pleasanton. The inspector who performed the work was named Christopher. He was great. He was the only employee onsite at the time, and there were 4 customers lined up. Chris was fast, knowledgeable, and best of all, he was POLITE and RESPECTFUL (this is very important for me because I'm tired of rude car repair places). He was super busy being the only inspector working at the time, even so he was efficient and fast. Super cool guy. I was out of there in about 20 minutes. (queue the A-Team music...) If you need a smog check, if you live in Pleasanton or Livermore, and you will find them (don't worry, they are definitely easy to find) - go to Smog King and ask for Chris. I typically can't stand the smog process because everyone dicks around on price, "oh I can't do it today..." I thought for sure this would be a slam dunk based on yelp reviews but timing is everything and this place gets a fail grade. My first clue is the pricing which they do not put on their web site. The $20 off coupon just makes it a comparable price with other places. Nevertheless, the location fit my agenda for the day so I show up 15 minutes early for my appointment. The place is abandoned, or so I think. After a good 10 minutes of standing around an overweight man emerges from the restroom (conveniently located in the waiting area). Immediately he has an attitude. I did not even attempt to say anything or negotiate a price. The first thing he says is I am early and there is "NO WAY" he can get to my smog test shortly.
