IDK about this place....but obviously don't like to serve black people. I have been up to this place 3 times to try to get a smog check. On the 3rd time, I arrived and it was nobody there ahead of me. They told me to wait 10 minutes. I notice 2 cars pull up, the car pulling up beside me was a hispanic woman. One of the men approach her car and immediately start to assist her. I ask, why are you helping her when I arrived first? He claims that she "called" him (yet when asked the last time I arrived they said it's FIRST come first serve) plus I tried to call multiple times with NO answer. I had a Groupon for a smog check, it was quick and easy to get done. The only note is that I called the day before explaining I had a Groupon. I wanted to see if I needed an appointment to come in. The man on the phone said no, I can come in anytime. I arrived the next day around 1145am, but they were not open. The car wash people said they would likely be in around noon so I waited the 15 minutes. They did open, and the owner (I'm assuming), said they don't normally take Groupons today (a Thursday) but he was very friendly and did it anyway when I told him I had called prior and the employee said to come in anytime. Besides that hiccup, they were very nice, quick, and efficient. The whole process took about 10-15 minutes. read more

F. This. Place. Waste of time!!! I drove through LA traffic for 30 min to get here on two separate occasions within the stated hours on Yelp (which had "just been updated a few days ago"), and both times they were closed. Why cant they be open during normal business hours that are stated on their own Yelp page? So unprofessional. Made it seem like it was my fault for not calling ahead to make sure it was open - since when does one need to call ahead to make sure a business is open during normal business hours? I got a Groupon for a smog check and they said they "don't do Tuesdays" and insisted it was stated on the Groupon but I looked on both the Groupon buy page as well as the coupon itself and this was NOT stated anywhere. This place wasted so much of my time. now i have to fight through groupon customer service to try to get my $ back. I ended up driving to star auto in culver where it was a quick, efficient, PROFESSIONAL drive through experience. go to star auto instead!!! read more

Sadly I must update my review here. as my prior review from 2015 is all about ALEXIS, a great employee who hasn't worked for Smog Kings in about 6 years. Also I have not been able to have any of my cars smogged here since my last experience here in 2015, because Smog Kings DOES NOT TEST PRE-1999 CARS ANY MORE. Every time I've called in the past 6 years I'm told "We can't test your car because our pre-1999 machine JUST BROKE". C'mon Smog Kings, that line worked a few times but got old several years ago. So to the owner of Smog Kings I ask you 2 questions- 1.) Why does your Yelp page still say that Alexis is the Manager when he hasn't worked there in over 6 years? 2.) Why does your Yelp page say that you test "all years" of cars when you haven't tested pre-1999 cars in over 6 years? Could you please update your Yelp page as to show accurate information? I brought my car for a smog test. I found this business with Groupon. The first time I went there were a few people already being helped. I was greeted quickly and told there would be a short wait time. I parked (there is plenty of parking) and since I had my dog with me, we took a short walk in the neighborhood although there is patio seating where I could have waited. All the paperwork was handled in order and the results sent electronically to the agency (I am new to the state and was unfamiliar with the process). I was so pleased with the service that I went back to Smog Kinds to test my daughter's car. She renewed her registration online and needed the test. (The results were sent to the agency and her tags delivered via mail a short time after.) The wait for her car was a bit longer, so I took advantage of the car wash service that is in the same location. (That service was also amazing.). Julian was so kind, professional, knowledgable, and the experience was so pleasant. I would definitely recommend Smog Kings and Julian's work for a smog test anytime, and I will certainly return again. read more

I purchased 3 Groupons for smog service for my 3 cars and before I had a chance to use them, the company marked the Groupons as used. When I tried to call them to find out why they did that when I did not use the Groupons or have any services done, they don't answer the phone. And Groupon won't help me unless they get a written statement from the shop saying that they did not do service (and admitting that they are committing fraud and stealing from customers, which more than likely they won't want to admit to ). Aaaaannd now I have to deal with a credit card dispute. I highly recommend avoid dealing with this shop. read more

EXCELLENT SERVICE! Best deal on Groupon. Pulled up and the service agent was in the process of finishing another customers' smog check. He immediately greeted me and told me he was almost complete. I waited all but 5 minutes when he approached me again, and asked for the Groupon code and dmv document. He noted there was an additional 10 bucks for certification once it passed, (still cheaper than any other deal I've seen). The process at that point was maybe another 10-15 minutes. Update 1/22: Update: Smog Kings owner contacted me immediately about my issue, explained the extenuating circumstances re why the shop didn't open on time yesterday, and invited me to come back. Got here 8:35 today, the technician Alexis greeted me and apologized too, and immediately got to work on my smog test. 10 minutes later and I have certificate in hand!! Excellent service by Alexis, and excellent customer service by the owner. Thanks much! I'm bringing my second car here next week! Review part 1: I found this place through Groupon. Both Groupon and the Smog Kings website state that the hours of operation are 8:30am-5:30pm M-F and that no appointment is necessary. I arrived at 8:30am on the dot. It is now 9:20am and the doors have yet to open. I checked with the business next door to see if they knew anything about why the shop was not open, and was told that the guy never comes to the shop that early, usually opens around 9:30/10am. That's just not good business! There is no answer on the business line either, and they do not seem to have voicemail. Not pleased, but I really need a smog check and I already paid for it. #notahappycamper Update: 10:20am and Smog Kings still has not opened their doors. Very bad business!
